Did Scotty McCreery flub national anthem lyrics?

Uh oh: “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery is getting flak for messing up the lyrics to the national anthem. According to USA Today, it sounds like the singer may have made a mistake at the World Series Wednesday night.

McCreery appears to sing "No José does that star-spangled banner" instead of "Oh say does that star-spangled banner" before Game One of the World Series in St. Louis.

A microphone malfunction also meant the singer had to start “The Star-Spangled Banner” over – maybe the 18-year-old was thrown off after his false start.

McCreery may have foreshadowed his future flub when he told Zap2It that he had been preparing for his World Series performance for days. "My mom's making me write down the lyrics on a piece of paper,” Scotty said. “And that's how I study. That's the way to learn."

Luckily, Scotty's voice was pitch-perfect. McCreery got a practice run in just a few weeks ago when he performed the national anthem before a North Carolina State football game.

According to Pollstar, Fox has announced the next three World Series national anthem singers. Country boys Trace Adkins and Ronnie Dunn will handle the singing for games 2 and 3, respectively, and “New Girl” star Zooey Deschanel will belt it before game 4.

McCreery’s first album “Clear As Day” debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 upon its release last week.

I do agree with all the ideas you have offered on your post. They are really convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are too brief for novices. May you please prolong them a little from next time? Thank you for the post.

What the heck is the matter with people that all they want to do is to find fault with others, they need to get a life. It is easy to criticize when your setting on the sidelines. Maybe some of those, media included, might like to try and perform the national anthem and let the public critique their performance. I for one have a southern dialect and often I am misunderstood. I feel that this was Scotty's southern accent coming thru; but no matter what is said there will be those people that try to make something out of nothing. I feel that he did a good job on a very difficult song.

It's 'CLEAR AS DAY' as to how it came out but but I do believe it's how Scotty and the rascal flatts were able to take in a breath from the preceeding mouthful of lyrics. GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS SCOTTY!

There's no way Scotty "flubbed" anything...the mic problem was simply an equipment failure – they changed a wireless mic for one with a cord if anyone cared to check before they started calling it a flub by Scotty...the "No Jose" thing first showed up on a bloody blog that got copied by some media who made a big story out of it. I am not from the southern US and even I knew it was just his accent...some kind of political statement?. Really? You can't possibly be serious!

There are some people out there who go any lengths to dis Scotty...for those who like to make fun of his looks, accent, etc., how about you post a picture of yourself, or maybe a video with your voice on it. Wonder how many comments you'd get about how funny you look or sound – probably a lot more than are posted about Scotty. Easy to criticize and make fun when you're anonymous isn't it?

Boy there are sure a lot of newscasters out there with nothing better to do than knock down this fantastic kid.
He did an awesome job on the song and if you listen to it closely he does say "Oh Say" Why can't people be proud of this young man for all he has accomplished instead of putting him down. My guess would be jealousy!!!

Typically lame comeback on your part to invoke that tired old "jealousy" excuse. No one's jealous of these people. Envious maybe, but jealous? No way. I'm curious why would idolize someone who's got average talent and their only claim to fame is an over the hill Tv program.

The writer of this article is either hard of hearing or desperate for a story. Scotty clearly sang, ":Oh Say. . . ." All those posting hateful comments seriously need to do some self-examination. What makes you have such evil in your hearts to pick on someone who has done absolutely nothing to you. You are just plain MEAN. Scotty, you were awesome!!

so, what's the fuss?......can't find any complaint against him, so you people nitpick on him ? – his too twangy...his accent is ridiculous...he looks like the caricature in MAD magazine...get a life people...and stop picking on someone who has done nothing against you....

I agree that it is just the southern accent. He sings the song exactly the same at the North Carolina WolfPack game. And not one person complained about what he sang. Check it out on you tube.

I hate all of the rumors that have been started on this. All that are putting down Scotty, could you sing the National Anthem, I do not think so? I have listened to the part over and over. Scotty does sing "OH SAY does that star-spangled banner'. What everyone is not use to is our southern accent . Scotty did an amazing job singing our National Anthem especially having a dead microphone to start with.

For all of you knocking Scotty down; he isn't the one who forgot to give a mic that worked and singing in front of a crowd like that can be pretty scary for an 18 year old. And not every song fits every person. So quit knocking him down to the ground and think of the accomplishments he has done and the positive role model he is for young people. What have you accomplished and that might tell it all – jealous!

I love Scotty and think he did a wonderful job as he always does. I feel sorry for you however that you are so miserable that you have to call a person a dirtbag when in fact he is a wonderful role model and example. Too bad there weren't more people like him...

I did not think Scotty sounded good at all. I like country music but he is too twangy for me and he has no stage presence at all. I would guess that in 2 years time he will not be that popular at all.
