Taylor Swift donates 6,000 books to library

Will Taylor Swift’s reign of preciousness never end? The bubbly blonde superstar has graciously donated 6,000 books to a library in Reading, Pennsylvania, the town's paper The Reading Eagle reports.

The Grammy-winning singer hails from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, and chose nearby Reading for her donation because she wants to aid economically troubled libraries.

The 6,000 children’s and young adult titles were chosen by local librarians. Publisher Scholastic Inc. helped Taylor make the hefty book donation.

Librarians say they hope the pop star’s popularity will encourage youngsters to read. The books donated by Swift bear special white star stickers, making it easy for kids to identify the celebrity connection.

Reading, Pennsylvania has some famous young residents who might enjoy the new children’s books – the Gosselins! That’s right, Kate and her brood of eight reside in "The Pretzel City.”

Please don't make this about Kate, plus 8, This is about the generosity of a beautiful soul who donated books to many who may never have the financial means to experience owning a book of their own. Reading was just acknowledged as the poorest city in the US behind Flint, Michigan. Give credit where credit is due, Taylor Swift has a heart of gold.

Taylor, THANK YOU for remembering those that are less fortunate. Sending love and hugs, Jan

That's one of the many problems with black people, take that ignorant jack@ss Kanye for example. I bet he has no shame, no regret for what he did to this beautiful, gifted young lady. They have no shame, no honor, no dignity, no civility, no class, no respect for themselves or others. No wonder why everyone hates them. You can take them out of the jungle, but you cannot take the jungle out of them. Subhuman, indeed.

What happened, Truth? Did your sister/girlfriend run off with a black guy and leave you without a date to the last family reunion/clan meeting?

While this is a great gesture, the best donations are those that are anonymous. Why? Because the purpose isn't to declare," Look at me and how generous I am!" but to help in a way that doesn't need to draw attention to one's ego. Then again, this is celebrity America and any publicity – even bad – is good for ratings.

While that is true that donating to certain things under an anonymous flag is recommended when it comes to celebrities, it isn't too bad of a thing to use one's popularity for others. Celebrities like Taylor Swift, the Jonas Brother, etc.. know that they have a lot of the younger generation looking up to them as role models, and if they can use that popularity to encourgage children to do something educational (i.e. reading) then all the more power to them. At least she is using her name to do something good.

As for all those other people who are taking cheap shots at her and asking "Well why not my city?" Back off, if she were to do it anonymously this would be the reason. Someone does something good and immediately people lash out because it wasn't their city or their charity. The report said that the library she donated to was close to her hometown, and my guess would be that anyone else would do the same. If I had that much money, I know for a fact that the first place I would look to donate would be places close to my hometown as well.

Props to Taylor Swift to use her popularity to get kids away from computer and video games and to actually open a book.

Books?? How about donating 10 computers that can hold 60,000 books? 6,000 books probably cost 6K these days.

10 computers, that can only be used by 10 people at a time... as apposed to 6,000 physical books.
Yep... smarter then her you are!

Yes, kudos to Swift with all her money and opportunity. It is easy to get all A's in those Yankie schools – just show up and be white – no need to read anything.

That is not just "Yankie" towns, there buddy. It is the American school system in general. Simply because politicians down't know how to actually implement the "No Child Left Behind Act". Don't blame the schools for the stuff, blame the school system and the state. And stop using race that way? The only way we will get rid of racists is if people like you stop using race as an excuse. If people like you would stop saying "White" or "Black" and just simply say the "American People" then we can put the issue we still have of a person's color behind and move forward as ONE NATION.

But if you're not white you're allowed to go to school free of charge, so what are you complaining about?

"just show up and be white – no need to read anything."

I guess that's why Caucasian and Asians consistently score higher than black and hispanics in every measurable educational category except dropout rates. Can you clowns even spell SAT?

Yes, promoting literacy to children is so subversive. God help us they may become educated and interested int heir own lives and futures maybe even *gasp* vote one day. Yep, children's easy access to books in public libraries is bound to lead to the fall of civilization itself. You were warned...
P.S. You are an ignorant stooge

      >>>I heard she is a liberal stooge.

And of course, if this is true that 'donating books to a library' is the act of a "liberal stooge" then it must follow that conservatives favor iliteracy.

Of course Observer, in your case, iliteracy is a step up in the world.

I wonder if Taylor has heard of Bernie's Book Bank in Chicago? (www.berniesbookbank.org)

In less than 2 years, Bernie's Book Bank has collected more than 350,000 children's books (age 0-12) and redistributed them to more than 30,000 at-risk children in Chicago and its suburbs. By 2013, BBB will be distributing 1 million books per year, supplying libraries of books to children who have no books of their own. Then BBB is expanding to other major metropolitan cities in America so that all children have the same opportunities to succeed in life. Kudos to Taylor Swift!
