Steven Seagal hired to control U.S.-Mexico borderSteven Seagal has once again been hired to serve and protect, except it doesn't sound like there will be any reality show cameras following him around this time. The "Above the Law" actor was sworn in this week as a deputy with the sheriff's office in Hudspeth County, Texas. The 59-year-old, who's no stranger to law enforcement and is also trained in Aikido, will help control the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the San Antonio Express. The paper reports that Seagal reached out to the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office himself about two months ago, seeking employment. Says Sheriff Arvin West, "Seagal is not in this for celebrity or publicity. He's like the rest of us that live down here; he has a sincere passion for his country and he wants to do more to help."
Although cameras captured Seagal's work as a reserve deputy with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana for A&E's "Steven Seagal: Lawman," it doesn't appear his full-time work with Hudspeth County's department will eventually serve as fodder for TV. The San Antonio Express reports that a spokesman for the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office says Seagal's employment with them isn't part of the A&E show. (Production was also halted on "Steven Seagal: Lawman" in 2010 when a former model alleged that Seagal used her as a "sex toy" after she was hired to be his assistant.) "The television aspect of what we're doing here is the last priority," the spokesman said. "The man has a pure motive in doing this. He knows what we're up against and wants to help." Seagal is scheduled to start his new gig early next year. While it's unknown if he'll be paid, the spokesman for the sheriff's department says deputies are typically paid about $15 an hour.

Just because you don't like Mexicans doesn't mean that those who disagree think every Mexican should move here. Nor does it mean every Mexican wants to move here. It is an issue; both sides agree that it must be handled. The disagreement is over how to handle it, an argument which is hard to have when one side continually bases their case on their distrust for immigrants.

Maybe...just maybe, if Mexico's government wasn't so corrupt, there would be more opportunity in Mexico for Mexicans. I didn't hear anyone address that yet. If American's had a problem in America, and they were trying to flee to, say, Canada....is it Canada's responsibility to take them in? The answer is no. The correct course of action would be to grant citizenship to all Mexicans that want to come here. Give them a social security number and collect taxes from their wages. All posters to this blog with the exception of American Indians are immigrants or descendants of immigrants that were granted citizenship. Our country is in a financial mess and allowing citizenship to these hardworking people will help fix the problem by increased tax revenue on wages. Many farmers in my state are losing crops due to loss of workers because our state passed an immigration law. I guess it didn't occur to the law makers that the food they eat was picked by people that they were running out of the state.

@bram59 Chuck Norris trained in Korea while he was in the armed forces and went on to be a tournament fighter. Steven Seagal trained over Tohei, who was no joke, and is a 7th dan. Neither of them are to be waved off as movie stars. They are the real deal.

I don't believe it was everettreb's intention to correct Rambo's spelling. He thought illegal counting would be a better them than illegal spotting as it seems that's all the border guard does is count them as they come across the border. the word illegal was just an innocent bystander.

Steven Seagal studies Aikido, which is a defensive martial art that uses an opponent's momentum and force to stop attacks by throws, locks or holds. Aikido also utilizes weapon defense. Chuck Norris studies Tang Soo Do, which is karate. Karate is inherently an empty-handed art. Having studied both, I can say that they are completely different. I would think that Stevie would have the upper hand, simply because he would be waiting for Chuck Norris' attacks, rather than attacking.
