Tilda Swinton: Acting career was a 'major mistake'Is Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton over her job? According to UK paper the Express, the 50-year-old actress says that despite an Academy Award (for “Michael Clayton”) and rave reviews, she’s been trying to get out of the movie business. "I'm not really interested in acting,” Swinton reportedly told the paper. “I've given up waiting for an epiphany of interest to strike. Acting is a red herring and a major mistake and I'm still trying to get back on track. Every time I’m in a film I’m determined it’s the last I’m in then I’ll fall into a conversation with someone and we’ll cook up a new scheme. Basically it’s gone on for 20 years but I’m hoping to pull it to a close shortly.”
It doesn’t look like that will happen any time soon. Swinton stars in the upcoming film “We Need To Talk About Kevin.” And she has three other movies in the works, including Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom." Still, Swinton insists she doesn’t want to make movies, saying, “I don’t want there to be films. It’s not like I’m looking for opportunities to do things.” She knows exactly what she’d like to do with her time: “I would like an opportunity to have a good sleep and get on with some writing.”

I don't like all her movies but I like her in any movie. She has a presence and she's a terrific, serious and accomplished actress. It'll be a shame if she quits acting but if she desires to do so for any reason then why not right now?
It sounds like she has severe depression. Someone should be keeping an eye on her and she should get some help.

I am really surprised – she is absolutely coming off as self-pitying and pretentious. I used to like her. Don't think I'll be able to watch her any more. I agree with the suggestion that she work an 8-6 hourly wage job for a few years and then see how much she hates making movies for a living. I imagine the whining would stop rather quickly. In the meantime, I'll just add "SHUT UP."

She's not being ungrateful, she's just over it. How many people decide to change careers every day? Millions! As an aspiring actress, it's tough to hear this but untils she begins her "new career" or whatever it is she wants to do, she'll have to keep taking rolls to pay the bills. Once she's got something new in the works, she will *hopefully* start turning down roles to allow other actors the opportunity.
oh, whatever. if she doesn't have enough money to pay the bills after all that she has earned in movies then she really is an indiot. it's called saving and investing. and it's fine for her to be "over" the profession that has earned her so much money but to gripe about it publicly when so many are struggling just to get by is ridiculous. keep it to yourself and just do what you feel you need to do.

If she's unhappy with her job, she can have mine...oh wait. I've been working at finding a job for 17 months. Unemployment will give her plenty of time to sleep and write.
If she hates being in movies so much, than why does she have in the can and 3 lined up? Perhaps she likes the lifestyle being in movies enables her to have. My regard for her has dropped several notches.

Regardless of how you may feel, when you're making movies and making millions, calling the career that brought you all of that success just comes across as ungrateful. It comes across as especially ungrateful when you say these things while giving an interview to promote your new movie. Frak you, Tilda Swinton. Millions are waiting to take your place. If you are too good for it then quit.
She needs to go work at the Piggly Wiggly or Dairy Queen for 6 or 8 years then see if she feels the same way. I think she is an ungrateful cow.

I don't usually bother posting comments to entertainment news but my response was the same as yours. seriously, she needs to shut the F up and live in a world where just paying rent is a regular concern. She is quite talented but many talented individuals do not get the opportunities she has had. So, say what you mean, mean what you say and leave acting. I won't miss you.
I really liked Tilda in "Orlando" (what a range!) and "I Am Love."
You play some interesting characters and you're very good at it better than most in the industry,having said that if you and your family aren't happy I can understand wanting out.
