Did former Weezer bassist predict his death?

Former Weezer band member turned artist Mikey Welsh's death Saturday at the age of 40 was a shock to many fans.

But People magazine reports the bassist eerily tweeted the time and place of his death two weeks prior.

According to the publication, Welsh wrote a note on the social networking site on September 26 which read, "dreamt i died in chicago next weekend (heart attack in my sleep). need to write my will today." He then added a second tweet that said "correction – the weekend after next."

According to Chicago police, Welsh was found "unresponsive and not breathing" on Saturday at the Raffaello Hotel. He was reportedly in town to see his former band perform Sunday at Chicago's RiotFest. As of Monday, a cause of death had not yet been determined.

Fenugreek has been used either short-term to boost milk supply or long-term to augment supply and/or pumping yields. There are no studies indicating problems with long-term usage. Per Kathleen Huggins “Most mothers have found that the herb can be discontinued once milk production is stimulated to an appropriate level. Adequate production is usually maintained as long as sufficient breast stimulation and emptying continues” :*`^

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and engaging, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something too few folks are speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy I stumbled across this in my search for something concerning this.

Rest in peace, Mikey. Thank you for the musical gifts you shared with us in your very short life. We are enriched by you.

There is never a simple answer to reasons for death... if he died because of natural causes or if he killed himself – he is still dead. In either case, a bright light went out in the musical world.

I will never understand why people read an article and then comment, "Why is this news?" because you read it and cared enough to comment is my guess. I don't click on anything I'm not interested in, so you really make yourself look foolish when you write things like that.

It's not uncommon for people to have dreams the foreshadow real events. I've known some people and had a few dreams myself. I wish there was more scientific research on the subject to "legitmize" this concept.

Very sad that this grim prediction came true. Prayers to his family and friends.

Just because if you dont believe in premonitions doesnt mean he committed suicide. Some of you people are really closed minded. These things happen more than you would think. Premonitions that is. Actually my friends say I'm crazy because the day before Michael Jackson died I had a dream about him. The day before Corey Haim died, I had a dream about him. And the day before Heath Ledger died, I had a dream about him. Weird huh? But its true, and it really freaks me out to be to be honest. Ive had a lot of weird things happen like that.

WHY ISN'T ANYONE QUESTIONING IF HE WAS THREATENED? IT WOULDN'T BE THE FIRST TIME SOMEONE RELATED TO A MAINSTREAM BAND WAS. Enough related people knew he was at the hotel and made contact with visiting his old band. MAYBE PEOPLE WERE ANGRY THEY WEREN'T MAKING MONEY OFF OF HIM. DID HE BREAK A CONTRACT? He could have very well been threatened in during his sleep by way of electronic or satteliite means connected to his bedroom. Sure seems like that practice is Entertainment industry/media/government wide and they are continuing to get AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE NOT QUESTIONING THE MANY, MANY MEANS our military and prisons torture those who are captured. Do not ever forget the Entertainment industries have historically and currently have a very solid relationship with our military and government forces with regard to technology. Maybe the man's mental illness was from the people he had to come in contact with to get where he did in the entertainment industry. There sure is enough money hungry people in this world including easy pay-offs with the economy the way it is. There have been way too many entertainment deaths written off to suicides and drug overdoses of people no longer using. It's an easy way for our local governments to say, we are not going to deal with the truth because we're too afraid of the mobsters, gang leaders and in actuality we do not have the money to pay for a full investigation. THIS HAS TO CHANGE People and these corrupt practices as in the Michael Jackson case have to be put to rest once and for all. I am confident eventually it will. Just read how long it took to publish books on the inside of the music and film business corrupt practices. There are a lot of very good, hard-working people in those businesses who want the corruption to end but it is going to take the public to help by not writing off these cases to the individual's drug use or mental states.

My brother, a PhD physicist, dreamed the details of my dad's death three weeks before they happened. He told me he was horrified when events started fitting the dream as they sat around the breakfast table, but didn't want to say anything, and then the worst happened. The only difference being in the dream he could tell what my dad was thinking and feeling as he hurried down the hall to the bedroom to try to slow his heart - a tremendous sense of purpose, but strangely that purpose was fulfilled when he collapsed beside the bed, and he burst through to some other place. So, it happens - unless my brother made up the story, or I did, or I misremember it - please apply skepticism at all appropriate times of course.

We all know dreams are not meaningless. they are a view of wha tyou feel and what you have experienced day to day. he likely had been contemplating suicide and made it look like he predicted it. he basically did the same thing your bible does. It makes prophecies that anyone could easily fulfill and when it happens you get to claim the bible was right. its highly absurd. i could say that tomorrow i will eat a turkey sandwich for lunch. to pull it off all i have to do is eat one the next day for lunch.

My grand-pa said that he was going to be buried in the new veteran's cemetary not 5 minutes before he stood up and had a heart attack and died. I've heard of many people who have "predicted" their deaths. My husband's grandmother sent her granddaughter to the store to buy some heart burn medicine after telling the granddaughter that she was going to get ready to go see her husband (husband had passed 10 years before), and when the granddaughter returned grandmother had passed away.
In his dreams, Mikey may have seen the hotel that he was in and realized that it was in Chicago...and knowing that he was going there is why he gave a time frame. i don't think that he killed himself...

There is no scientific explanation for this, and I can't help but chalk it up to coincidence without going into some pretty absurd conjecture but I have dreamt events that have come to pass. Most bizarre is how chance-occurrence, specific and detailed but also inconsequential these things I dreamt were. If would be pretty amazing if some legitimate form of foresight could be accessed by our brain while we are dreaming. However I'm sure there is a more logical explanation.

You who believe that this was a "prediction", as well as the author of this article are morons. It was a telegraphed suicide. Period. Let's see, this guy goes on twitter to tell everyone when and where he will OD and die and then follows through and this is prophetic? Nope, just average communication. By the way, if this guy left behind children, then he is a loser, in my opinion. Now his children have to live with their father's very public suicide. He was too selfish to even keep it private, for the sake of his kids. Too bad all the drugs didn't steralize him!

That is to weird. For one, the time and death was publicated then corrected. The next thing you know it comes true. That sounds like it was planned to me. But, then you will ask yourself, if planned then why tell everyone when it will happen. Just so weird.

This is sad, strange news indeed. Mikey was a painter before he joined the band (Green Album days) and left the band after a breakdown and went back to a reclusive life as an artist. he very publicly dealth with mental illness and addiction. He could often be found around Boston after he had left the band, often times incoherant and hanging around on the post office steps. I loved this band in my Middle school/High school years right through the Green Album but definitely started to outgrow the new generic pop sound they became. Mikey, I hope you are now at peace....you will be missed by many. This probably was a suicide. And to most of you saying you wish that he had gone to a doctor....you go say to any doc "I had a dream that I had a heart attack" and see what kind of work up you get other than a laugh. Especially at only 40 years old.

What the he!! is wrong with some of you people???

I didn't know the band or the guy, but come on, the guy is DEAD. Died young, to boot. Given my age, I would have been dead for years if I had died when I was forty. When I think of all I would have missed if I had died then, it's scary and sad. This guy was a PERSON, a human being. Why are you people mocking him and posting disgusting offensive things here? How would you feel if some a$$wipe did that when you died – more to the point, how do you think your family would feel? (Yeah, I know, YOU wouldn't feel a thing)

I don't get the kind of "humor", if you call it that, that writes disgusting, scatological things about people who have just died. I don't know anything about this guy but if all you can do is be offensive, save it for face book. At least that way anybody who Does find this kind of garbage amusing, will have gone looking for it. Oh, but then you wouldn't be hiding behind anonymity. If you had to publicly own up to having written some of this garbage, would you have said it? If you had to put your real name to it, would you be embarassed? If you wouldn't, you need to grow up and get out of your mamma's basement! Even if you are commenting on someone who was a horrible person, whose death, in your opinion, makes the world a better place, there is no need to say anything other than just that. There is no need to be egregiously offensive just for the sake of it. That's wildly immature.

To be fair, he didn't live in Chicago so if he were in Chicago in his dream, he would've known the date. It's just a logical deduction. How did he know he was in Chicago? Well that part we don't know. Maybe he had a whole thing before he died in his dream – went to the show or checked into the hotel. I'm with you though. It definitely seems like suicide to me. It's a shame. He wasn't in Weezer for long but I liked his art.

Let's see... join a band at the moment they start a 3 year hiatus, tour with them for approximately one year, suffer a nervous breakdown from drug use and (amusingly enough) "the strain of touring", quit the business and move to Brattleboro VT (enough to make anyone want to whack themselves), to focus on an "art career". He travels to Chicago to see a concert of the band he left? Yep, whacked himself.

He didn't live in Brattleboro. He lived in Burlington VT, which is an amazing City. Mikey was Kind and always friendly to me. I really liked him as an Artist and considered him a friend. He told me he left the band because the instant fame and having anything you want just handed to you was a lot to handle and he got carried away, Probably a majority of would indulge given the situation. At least he knew (then) he had to make a change. I know he loved his family and adored his child. We had great conversations about our kids, Art, music and even snowboarding. He did a line of Snowboards for Burton a few years ago that he was really proud of. I'm really bummed he is gone.

Sadly it was more of a plan than a prediction. You could tell from his Facebook postings (offering his art for sale and adding that the value would increase significantly if he 'expired prematurely', etc.) this was coming. No one seems to be mentioning that he was in Chicago to catch a show on Sunday night, but had booked his hotel only through Saturday. His personal life had really fallen apart lately and his struggles with being bi-polar and panic attacks had escalated. The medications to help with that are just horrible....I can't begin to imagine how hellish it is to live with those disorders. It seems like he really just wanted to be at peace.

This guy was the guy who was in Weezer for like 10 minutes after Matt Sharp left the Band. I just recall an MTV news item about him freaking out (possibly on drugs) and running away from the band to the point where they couldn't find him for a few weeks. Ultimately he proved to unrelible and bizarre and they replaced him with the guy who has been their bassist for the past 10 years. I don't think he was ever recorded on an album.

He was undiagnosed and tried to kill himself with drugs...when the other members found out they had nothing to with him anymore. Some friends. I doubt that would have happened if he had cancer. It's not like he was speaking in tongues and trying to kill imaginary enemies. He moved on and tried to be productive with his life. And he was on the Green Album.

Ugh. You are really mean and uninformed. If you knew anything about him you would see that he was an incredibly nice, friendly, and giving person. And totally hilarious.

Felt like I was running a sprint race although I was sitting on the bed. Thought it was a heart attack. Wife called 911 and I got rushed to ER. 3 days in ICU with unexplained heart arrythmia (sp?). Did weeks of follow up tests and had many more smaller heart "episodes' as the Dr. called it. Still no explanation other than "subconcious anxiety". It went away and I feel fine. Not saying he didn't commit suicide, I don't know. But I think its possible to foresee your own death. My grandmother 'predicted her own death'. There was a black coyote that showed up and kind of hung around outside the house for a week or so. Grandma was certain that the coyote had 'come for her' and began to carve an image of the Virgin Mary. We all thought she was old, delusional, and had really finally fully lost it etc., but she died that week just after painting her wood sculpture. Coincidentally, we didn't see the coyote any longer either ...

Even if that's the case, he was off by a week. Maybe he got cold feet and decided against it and waited a week later, or maybe he was one of those people that stresses about things obsessively and caused himself to have a heart attack. I'm pretty sure he didn't have a premonition or predict anything. Drugs and Alcohol can make you have really strange dreams, but the notion that somebody psychically predicted their own death is a bit ridiculous. If you want to dip into this bit of logic, look up James Randi on Youtube – he has some pretty strong arguments, not to mention impressive defeats of the people that would have you or anyone else believe this nonsense.

I've been a Weezer fan since even before they ended up with a couple songs on the charts. They don't really even like the "rocker scene". For the last month or so, they've been playing on a cruise ship. It's the Weezer cruise tour. The lead singer was even on a local news station somewhere for an interview and they started blaring one of his songs and it looked like he was going to freak out. Good band though. Incidentally, the former bassist was with them when they were the most popular with, maybe ironically, Hash Pipe on the billboards at #2.

I don't buy it. It's not a "prediction" if it's done on purpose. It's either a cry for attention or a cry for help. If you tweet about your own death and then you die by your own hand, then you've simply stated what you're going to do. Not to say that it isn't sad.

    • That plumber you know.

"Never heard of him, who is this guy, cant name a song of theirs." Call me crazy, but are you not missing the point? He predicted his own death. Who he is, is a rather moot point.
