'Playboy Club' to be replaced by Brian WilliamsIt was slammed by critics from the very first episode, so it’s no surprise that NBC’s “The Playboy Club” has been axed after just three episodes. CNN can confirm that “Rock Center with Brian Williams” will replace the sexy '60s drama. Beginning October 31, the newsmagazine show will take over the failed show’s time slot. Until then, repeats of “Prime Suspect,” starring Maria Bello, will air on Mondays at 10 p.m. Since “The Playboy Club” premiered September 20 to 5 million viewers, ratings have dropped consistently with each episode. The most recent episode had 3.2 million viewers, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The Parents Television Council is happy the program’s been canceled, reports The Wrap. And so, we presume, are feminists like Gloria Steinem, who called for a boycott of the show. In other TV news, NBC has ordered full-season pickups from new comedies “Up All Night” and “Whitney.” “We made comedy an important goal for us this season and I’m very pleased to be making full-season commitments to both ‘Whitney’ and ‘Up All Night,'” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. Fox’s Zooey Deschanel vehicle “New Girl” was the first new show to get a full-season order. |

its bad when people (ptc)in there (90)+ age group have a show like the playboy club removed from tv because they
dont like it.they were in that era & may have worked at the playboy club . i hope they dont stop pam am or in will have
to order playboy from comcast & see if they can stop me on watching it boooo you suck way to go abc keep up the good work that shows nbc only wants the money snoopy
Im glad they kept this off the air in Utah, and now off the air entirely. Filth like this has no place in a civilized Christian country like the US.
How do you even know how to use a computer? I bet you stumbled here by accident when looking for 1 guy 1 jar didn't you!?!?!
@JWitness LOL
Bring back "Swing Town" It was a better show. Its too bad CBS bowed down to the Christian right and canceled the show.
I do think that this show would do better on a bigger network. Its about bunnies whether they were just working the club or about the ones getting to pose for the magazine. It would do better on a network like showtime or HBO, where they wouldn't be so limited on a public network. Even if they only ever showed boobs, tons of men would still tune in. However, I'm a female, and I'm just addicted to dramatized situations and this had one just starting (to me.)
This show is great. It needed some exteriors, day shots, street scenes but overall, it had a mood and a tone. The problem is NBC. Pepper it up and put it on HBO where it should have been. All the good shows go down and if New Girl is a hit, there is no hope for NBC or TV in general. I've seen a lot of TV in my time and Playboy Club should have been allowed to get going and grow. Each actor was a star and the musical numbers were really entertaining. I won't be happy until I'm holding season one in my collection so knock it over to HBO and finish what you started.
I win again.
From the first episode The Playboy Club on NBC was a complete joke. At 10pm this show was really "G" rated? Trying to be something that should have been on A&E or Bravo and be more real. Sorry for the actors thow.
You can't re-live an era that's why it failed.
Ever heard of 'That 70's show"?
IN YOUR FACE, NEEERD.
THIS SUCKS !!!!! I really LIKED the show and was totally into it.
I didn't make it through the first episode. I really wanted it to work, but the story line was just stupid. Oh well, it was a cool concept – they just didn't pull it off.
Loved the show. It was about something good was on besides reality tv show. please cable pick this up.
BOOO!!!!!!! We actually enjoyed The Playboy Club!!! Maybe one of the cable networks can pick it up and make a bit more racy. And how will it end? NBC, you suck!
nbc dose suck that was the only show that they had to watch on there micky mouse net work maybe amc will pick them up and put them on after mad man then go hey nbc you reallly are loosers
They should've never hired Eddie Cibran (sp). He's a horrible actor and a jerk. That's what he gets for cheating on his wife with that country ho. Karma is a mother.
Are you her (karma) illegitimate lovechild?
i want this show to go on. i saw the first episode and it was gooood. it just comes out too late at nite for me to continue to watch. i get it at 10:00 on cbs in california.
howa hoooowa hooowa hooowa im an indian
Yeah. Plus no naaakeeed girls on it. We were gyped !
Fernace, the show was bad.
I was a centerfold once... for my third grade play. I was a tree stuck between a rock and a cow in the playbill they handed out before the show. True story...
man@ they shoulda put it on cable and included scenes of each girl doing a centerfold shoot. nekkid, of course! rating would not have been a poblem among males 14-99 years old.
This is ridiculous. That show is no worse than Pan Am on ABC in showing how women were objectified in their job roles in that era. I actually enjoyed it and am disappointed that they are cutting it. Gloria Stienem needs to get over it. I thought the show did a good job in portraying what women had to do in situations like that to "be a star" in the 50s &60s. Although, the whole "beard" marriage thing was a little forced. Above all – it's fiction folks. Take it for what it is – just entertainment.
Pan Am could be a really great show. What you can see now is how much worse off the flight attendants have it now. I hope it's given a chance to make it.
Problem with playboy club is NBC was dumb enough to put it against castle and hawai 5-0. Put it on any other night except monday or tuesday and it would have done great
A failed show and a failed agenda with failed actors from failed marriages from the start. You have to let go of a failure mindset to begin succeeding and everyone involved in this show keeps repeating failed behavior.
Winner of the "Most Ridiculously Inane Comment of the Day" award. Congratulations.
I thought this would be a great opportunity to show, historically, what women have gone thru to be where we are now! After all Gloria Steinem & Barbara Walters were bunnies at the original Playboy Club! Hope it get's shopped to another network, like the Camelot movie about Jackie Kennedy's life, starring Katie Holmes!!
I think Gloria Stinem was undercover for the magazine she worked for. She was always a feminist.
I hoped the show would've been a little more historically accurate. I know a woman who worked in the Orlando Playboy Club and then moved to Chicago. She paid her way through getting her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. Eventually, she became an ordained minister through the Unity Church and now helps to lead the church with her husband here in Indianapolis. In a way, I thought the new show was doing her a disservice because it really didn't tell the story that the women had to go through. The movie about Gloria Steinem was probably more accurate.
Being undercover doesn't mean anything... She was still in the Playboy club.
that's like saying you star in gay p0rn, but only undercover for an article you're writing.. it's still gay p0rn.
Yay! One point for the girls!!
