Martha Stewart's daughter dishes dirt on mom in book

A new tell-all book by Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis has been excerpted by U.K. paper the Daily Mail, People reports, and it sounds like it's a doozy.

"Martha does everything better! You can't win!" Alexis, 46, writes of mom Martha, 70, in “Whateverland: Learning to Live Here.”

The scathing tome comes as no surprise, considering Alexis has made a career of mocking her mother on the show “Whatever, Martha.”

"If I didn't do something perfectly, I had to do it again. I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head," she laments in the book.

Among other claims, Alexis says holidays in the Stewart home were less than picture-perfect. There was no Halloween in their household (“We turned off all the lights and pretended we weren't home"), and Martha would make her wrap her own Christmas gifts. She would hand me things right before Christmas and say, 'Now wrap these but don't look inside.'”

She also divulges that Martha was a hoarder who “always” went to the bathroom with the door open.

“I remember saying, 'You know, now I have friends over! You can't do that anymore! It's gotta stop! My friends' parents don't do it! Give me a break here! I don't feel like being embarrassed!”

If you’re not scandalized yet, you might be when you hear that according to Alexis, Martha refused to buy her pubescent daughter a bra.

Even after all the accusations, Alexis, now a mother herself, dedicated the book to her mom. She writes in the foreword: "Thanks in advance to my mother for not getting angry about anything written in this book."

The domestic diva has issued a statement of support, saying of her daughter, "She's her own person. She makes up her own mind."

If you want all the gritty details on Alexis’ New York City childhood, you can pick up her book on October 18.

What a middle aged brat! No one has a perfect life, most people go through worse and don't have the future her mother has prepared for her! She is a spoiled, self centered and greedy person! I hope her mother surprises her upon her death and leaves her with NOTHING!

Its sad that some children makes a living demonizing their mothers. I too had a mother whose many flaws could save the recession in the US. But those flaws had thought me a lot of lesson and made me who I am right now. Being a mother makes me realized that examples are a great thing you can bequeath your child. No matter how much i was traumatized I will not disrespect my mother in front of my child. Paybacks and healing will be shared with a therapist and only a therapist

Really–it's tough to judge a book by a few outtakes. Sure, wrapping one's own gifts sounds petty (what about the poor tykes who have no gifts?). My kids could accuse me of peeing with the door open, and hopefully there are no pictures. But, Alexis is all about satire (if you've seen her show), so don't judge until you read the book. I've heard it's funny. (no I'm not related or employed by anyone involved).

Does anyone really care about this book and what Martha did or did not do? I think the daughter is trying to make a "Mommie Dearest" and it's already been done. The book will soon be on the sale table at the book store.

sounds like a spoiled brat to me. tired of all this whining by this kids on how 'unjust' their lives were. at least she had a roof over her head, she wasn't neglected, she was fed, educated, not molested, not beaten. give me a break. blah, blah, blah!!!! the only thing martha did wrong is not insist that her daughter go off to third world country and donate her time to help the poor starving, childless children. i get more and more annoyed as I think about this.

Had a college friend who worked for Martha in early 90's – the gist of what she told us-an impossible to please, mean, hard woman. I imagine that is what got her to were she is, but who wants to sleep with that?

When I was much younger I kept my horse at a stable very near Martha's house in Connecticut. Let me tell you, she was a class a "B with an ITCH". All of her neighbors couldn't stand her, she complained about anything anyone did within two miles of their house and she treated her then husband and kid like crap. I believe every word of the daughter's tales and think there is likely even more, worse stuff that she did not reveal. Martha's pretend personallity on TV sickens me knowing how she is IRL.

Martha, here's an idea. Change your will. Alexis is an ungrateful daughter who hasn't done a thing with her life but bash you. Give your money to someone who will appreciate it. Many parents are not including these brats in their will, so it's ok if you don't.

Sounds like a fake book to be honest...sounds like Alexis is ungrateful and jealous that her mom is a big star and she is not. It's hard to bash your mom and make it sound credible when she allows you on her network, paid for you to have a baby, and doesn't get made when you try to paint a picture of her that makes her look like a neglectful parent...girl..wake up! You should be grateful not sour, must be nice to just sit around and bash mommie all day instead of work the daily grind like us normal people!

Maybe the author will be happy with money she may make from the book – publishing it tells much, perhaps too much, about herself. And who knows, maybe both the author and her mother planned this as another smart business deal.

My mother handed me gifts to wrap, also. She was a single mother, working hard with more important things to do than wrap gifts. And that is also the same for Martha, especially. Alexis has hung her mother out to dry, but Martha will always turn the other cheek for the child she loves, and for the sake of her grandchild. What is to be gained by any other response. Martha is a classy lady, and will always conduct herself as such. I have heard many people talk trash about Martha, some who barely knew her, but when I asked for details, it was obvious they were extremely jealous of her intellect and her success, just as many of YOU are. I believe many of you critical responders could barely walk a mile in Martha's shoes, and I would bet none of you could fill her shoes. I put Martha in a special category of women, right up there with Jackie Kennedy and other memorable first ladies.

Alexis is a spoiled brat. I have good friends who are friends of Martha's. They once hosted Martha and Alexis for dinner small, casual dinner (yes, Martha can do casual). Alexis got in a snit with her mother over something minor (this was only about 5 years ago). She proceeded to load her plate with food and went to the car to eat it by herself–she stayed there the rest of the evening (like, 3 hours).
