Don't buy Madonna hydrangeasWe can learn a valuable lesson from last week’s Venice Film Festival: Madonna really, really does not like hydrangeas. It'd probably be wise not to buy her any. And thanks to a fan’s YouTube upload, we never have to make that mistake. During a press conference for her upcoming movie “W.E.,” Madge was handed a hydrangea bouquet. It went downhill from there.
Smiling, she accepted the flowers, telling the fan, “Thank you, thank you.” Then Madge stowed the purple blossoms and turned to the woman sitting next to her (just off camera) to vent about the horrible offense. "I absolutely loathe hydrangeas,” she says in what sounds like a British accent. “He obviously doesn't know that." So do we believe Madonna hates hydrangeas that much, or are our legs being pulled? Apparently, she's really not a fan. Madonna's rep tells CNN: “She’s entitled to like any flower she wants and she didn’t want to hurt the feelings of the hydrangeas of the world...No disrespect to the hydrangeas lovers of the world but she prefers different types of flowers.” But hey, maybe she was just cranky about the reviews for “W. E.” Luckily, Madonna hasn’t quit her day job – she told reporters in Venice that her upcoming album should be out this spring, according to Billboard. "I've started a little bit of work in the studio," she said in an interview with Swedish Sveriges Television.

The point of the "sarcastic" video response she made, I assume, is to tell us all that we are making a big deal of her reaction and that she has the right to like roses instead.

You know, I have been given presents I didn't like more than once. In all occasions, I thanked the people who have given them to me. And I have complained about it to someone else, I have made remarks on a certain present someone gave me that I did not like at all. The only difference is that I did not have a camera and a mic on be, registering everything. At least I am not being hypocritical criticizing Madonna for something so insignificant that I have done. Lucky you guys, that have never had this "problem".
It's funny how CNN cut off the part she says "Thank You" to the guy. It's also funny how people ignore the fact that HE should not have approached the table. There was a breach of security, a man with an object in his hands approached her table, thankfully, it was only a bouquet of flowers. It's pretty clear that she wanted to get rid of him.
And I am not sure he was a "fan". He was indeed a reporter who was outside the building, with a TV crew, waiting to ask her about the flowers he had given her inside (did he really think she would leave carrying the flowers?). It seems more like a prank from a TV show. If a Brazilian TV show (Panico na TV) managed to enter the Oscar's ceremony with a hidden camera without permission or wristband, and "pranked" Tom Cruise and other celebrities, this surely seems something like that.
Very boorish on her part. When a fan gives you a gift, you take it, smile and even if you don't like it, pretend you do. I have never been a big Madonna fan, but she has marketed herself very well and for that I give her kudo's. And I agree with other posts, her age does not support the wardrobe or the makeup that she sometimes sports.

So funny- I made an album last year (small time stuff) but one of the songs on it is about a guy that gave a girl a hydrangea that he picked from his yard as a token of his affection and she stuck her nose up at it in much the same manner... this happened when I was in the seventh grade and I'm 38 now and for some reason I never forgot it????

Look, I don't like Madonna, but I'm sure we've all been in that situation before. Who hasn't received a gift they didn't like, and made a comment to their friend? It's not like she threw the flowers at her fan. I remember getting gifts I didn't like, and making a comment to someone. BUT, I didn't throw the gift away, nor told them to their face, nor was I ungrateful. I just simply didn't like it, and that's that. I loved the gesture, and embraced the gift. Is it a crime not to like something now?

A hydrangea is the most beautiful plant in the world. They don't need much sunlight and as long as you keep them from drying out they produce the best showiest bloom starting in spring and then slowly fading in color all summer long and into fall. If you can't live in the tropics with year round flowers, hydrangeas are the next best thing. I feel sorry for Madonna if she can't appreciate what a hydrangea plant has to offer – she is missing out on something wonderful.

Do you realize that it has been proven that if you live in a specific area for an extended period of time (such as Madonna), you will tend to pick up the accent naturally? I grew up near Seattle, then moved down near Dallas, TX for 4 years and currently, traces of a southern accent is caught, unintentionally, in my every day normal not-too-much-of-a-Washingtonian accent? Cut her a little bit of break on that one – she is American, though with how long she has been living abroad, she may truly have picked up a bit of a British accent, regardless of intention, and it now seems quite normal to be speaking in a combination American English/British accent.
