Latest 'Star Wars' change enrages fansGeorge Lucas is messing around with “Return of the Jedi,” and fans are not happy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director has added audio to one Darth Vader scene for the movie’s September Blu-ray release. In the climatic scene where Darth Vader tosses the evil Emperor Palpatine to his death, Lucas now has him shout “No!” where before, Vader was silent. The change reflects the end of “Revenge of the Sith,” which is the most recent “Star Wars” film - the third chronologically. After a rep for Lucasfilm confirmed the change to The New York Times (emailing “Yes — Darth says NO.”), outraged fans took to Twitter. “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof was among the annoyed. “I wonder if the [Lost] finale will be better appreciated if we have Vincent [the dog] shout "NOOOOOOOOO!" over the final shot,” he tweeted. Calling Vader's added audio a "clueless revision," actor Simon Pegg tweeted that he always “loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice.” The is just another injustice to die-hard fans, who've suffered through announcements of Lucas's other tweaks for the upcoming DVD set, including a CGI Yoda, blinking Ewoks and a shriek for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Actor-comedian Paul Scheer also expressed the nerd consensus: “If George Lucas continues to change Star Wars at this rate, in the year 2028 it will just become Spaceballs.” All six refreshed “Star Wars” films will be released on Blu-ray September 16. |

Then you'll find that there's Hermes "Birkin" which costs $64,900. Under this feast or famine scenario, you may get $20,000 in payments one week, and then not get another cent for two or three months.. So to rectify this malfunction and to restrict the heavy production of cholesterol you need its control and prohibition by applying Generic Zocor.

obviously like your web site however you have to check the spelling on several of your posts. Many of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the reality on the other hand I'll certainly come back again.
Lucas is a hypocrite. This why he is a hypocite when comes to special effect since he started write the PT. I'm very well convinced this person interviewed is not the same person who made those awful CGI infested horribly written and acted Star Wars prequels,

You people don't understand the ultimate genius behind all of this. After so many different versions released, each more ridiculous than the previous one, Lucas is simply setting us up for his ultimate diabolic plan: to re-release the original versions completely unaltered. Which, twenty years ago, no one would've traded a candy bar for. But five years from now? You'll jump through hoops to pay $70 for the Nostalgia Edition of Star Wars: ANH. (Available on quantum dot, jump drive, and mini Blu-Ray at a retailler near you.) BRILLIANT!!!
Hyper-retardy!
I don't care much. I have the original movies to enjoy. I still want a Kenner Slave-I and and AT-AT and need more original action figures to complete my Star Wars themed garden. Thats all I care about. Bluray, schmooway.
He is doing this because he knows people will be enraged ... but still spend their money!!!! he is deliberately ****ing with you, and you are still paying to be ****ed with!!! When you saw him wearing a T-shirt that said "Han shot first" you should have caught a clue!!!
When will people realize that Lucas' role in the Star Wars franchise is highly exaggerated? He claims that he wrote all the films as one piece, but then split it up into 3 because the script was too long, but that is a LIE. NONE of his drafts have anything from Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. The fact is that his creativity was EXHAUSTED with the first piece and the remainder was written by Leigh Brackett, Lawrence Kasdan. You probably never heard of them. Lucas took a writing role in Return of the Jedi along with Kasdan and we got the lovely Ewoks instead of Wookies. Yay. Now with Lucas in charge, he is making the films as lame as they would have been had he been the sole writer. Its a travesty and I just hope someone buys the rights from Star Wars from him. If Michael Jackson could outbid Paul McCartney for the rights to the Beatle's music, then someone can do the same to Lucas...and should!
Hopefully, after enough people buy this version and express their concerns, Lucas will re-release the bluray version again in the future without the changes.
Don't tell George, but he could probably get me to pay more $ for an "Extra" special edition that shows the films in the version I saw in the theater, 8 times when I was a kid.
Wow...in the universe there are four types of matter: standard matter, antimatter, dark matter, and doesn't matter at all...which one does SW fit into?
Stupid CNN Entertainment!!! The pic used to head this story is from Empire........Not Jedi..........Before you blah blah blah.....get the basics right....
lucas is a pinhead
It would have been cool to see Senator Organa yell, "NOOOOOOO" when Alderaan got blown up by the DeathStar.
Star Wars fans should get lives.
Han shot first!
Pretty sick of the "Just want to make my movies better" BS. I just smell money and BS greed. How many versions of these movies will there be!? 3? Just so people can, what, spend $20 on the same movie, but one version has on CGI, another has some CGI, and the last threw in a "No!". Thats crap. For shame Lucas. For shame...
Maybe we can get a sequel/prequel....
SPACEBALL: The Moichandising Menace
You should all take off your Princess Leah slave bikinis and home made storm trooper outfits, come out of your closets and parents basements and actually walk around outside in the sun for a bit.
If your life or memories of your childhood are damaged because of the re-edting of these movies, you really need some serious counseling.
I am sick of Mr. Lucas screwing with these films. WHY can't he simply re-master the originals. Personally, I think all the CGI added to 4-6 take away from the movies, and I think it was relied upon far too much in 1-3; to the detriment of the plot. All I want is Episodes 4-6 in un-editted form upgraded to Blu-Ray quality. Remove all the fluff that was added.
Wow, I am glas I happened across this.
I saw the original Star Wars in 1977 about 10 times that year. Had to wait in line just for just about all of them.
I wasn't thrilled about the changes made when he digitized things, like adding Jabba the Hut at the space port. But I absolutely won't be buying this new version. Enough is enough!
He should have made episodes VII, VIII, and IX instead of the stupid prequel while we are at it. 🙂
Looks like I need to start hunting for the originals on dvd, as my vhs copies are about shot.
Russ
I just got off the phone with a telemarketer and I had said, "Nooooooooooooooooo!"
http://www.comicdaverusso.blogspot.com
Lucas has gone to the darkside of the force.
This is as bad as him making Gweedo take the first shot at Hans Solo in the bar. He totally ruined that scene by adding that and took part of the character away from hans solo. Once again he assasinating the characters traits!!!! The good news is Empire strikes back is my favorite hopefully he hasnt screwed with that too much.
I used to think Lucas was a genius. Now, I just think its all terrible. There are so many scenes that could be cut to tighten the dialogue and strengthen the movie. Number one being the female Jedi being killed in episode three, who just threw her arms up and fell over like a tree. That's just one in a SEA of many. Oh, and the Han Solo Jabba remix. Toss it. Stupid.
It's really time for GL to do some Old Republic storylines. As much as I do like Star Wars with Luke, Han, Yoda and all, but I really starting to get sick of them. lOl Maybe do something when Yoda was in his prime or something. That's just me though.
I've got a bad feeling about it...
Goofy add-ons and jacked up edits. Leave well enough alone!
I'm a die hard Star Wars and Empire fan. I was 7 yrs old in 1977 and Star Wars was the first movie I'd ever seen, period. Holds sentimental value for me.
I only liked ROTJ for the duel between Darth Vader and Luke - because I LOVE Mark Hamill...but those frickin ewoks were gawd awful and that lame sing along song at the end, good lordy that was so embarrasing.....
I'm not a fan of the new ones (episodes 1,2, and 3) with Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman, et al. So boring and the filmakers took themselves way too seriously. The original three films had a good balance of humor, action, and drama.
Lucas always wrote lame dialog. "I've got a bad feeling about this" is his trademark line!?!?! He should know that by now. He had an amazing grand vision of this galaxy far, far away, but always needed help on the single-being level. Adding some CGI to fill in a scene is fine, but changing the way that characters interact is beyond his skills. Maybe his heirs will go back to the original versions on some technology migration far, far in the future.
as an observation, you used "climatic." You meant "climactic."
Just saying. And I agree with everyone else over this. It's a terrible change.
HAN FIRED FIRST!
if us fans stop buying the Star Wars releases, then Lucas will have to stop tweaking them.
http://ntrygg.wordpress.com
I couldn't agree more. George will keep making changes as long as we keep buying. I'm tempted to digitize my old VHS copies and keep those in my library instead.
But if he doesn't change a few things, how could Gorge possibly get us to pay for these movies (yet again) be re-releasing a Star Wars UNTOUCHED edition in a few years.................
Some things are just perfect the way they are. In Lucas's case, these changes destroy everything that was once great about these movies. I have the DVD versions with the originals and those will continue to work just fine for me.
LOL Right on, Mr Roboto!!!!! I agree with your posts. Hit the nails right on the head!
Also, I've always hated the ewoks. ROTJ got a little too sweet and furry for me. Too muppetized (my apologies to Jim Henson)
Can't George find ANYTHING else to do with his life?? Jedi is not even "his" movie– Richard Marquand directed it! This clueless Vader change is just another spit in the fans' faces. The sad thing is George just laughs at all of us, even this huge wave of media criticism. I was actually getting excited about the Blu-ray set when I read about the cool special features & deleted scenes. But now I'm not so sure... this coming from a 30-year fan who helped Lucas make his crappy empire.
The great thing about the original trilogy was that the story and theme were excellent...and Lucas had other people write and direct the movies. Hence their greatness.
The prequal was written and directed by him. Lucas has lost whatever creative spark he ever had and it is truly baffling that the man who made the original Star Wars and American Graffiti could make such crappy movies now.Must have been a fluke. There are so many talented people out there who have been contributing to the Star Wars franchise for years with great stories and product (authors Timothy Zahn and Troy Denning, BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic, a computer game that had a epic story and a cooler lead character/villain then Darth Vader) that these people could be consulted about how to expand and improve the movies or better yet make new ones based in the Star Wars Universe with new stories and characters....but no. What Lucas is thinking is beyond me. What I would not give to have the old copies of the star wars movies I grew up watching. They may be VHS but they are a hell of a lot better to watch then his new and "improved" versions.
better get tot that http://www.SUPERSONIC.US.COM
George Lucas has more money than God so I think hes probably more concerned with putting out product he is comfortable having his name on than what the public thinks. Sure fans will be upset but like it was said previously hell still make a fortune all over again.
Lucas has OCD, it has to be it. He just CAN'T leave these movies alone. Glad I'm not buying the blurays. (he's not including the original untouched versions I grew up with as a kid)
I think people are forgetting one important slight in all of this. What is the implication on Jim Henson's legacy when you go in and replace all his work. Although he was not the sole creator, he collaborated with Lucas in making the Yoda puppets. Lucas is an ass... uninspired. I'm not even a Star Wars geek and can care less about the new DVDs but if he's going to make new productions why can't he go into different aspects of the novel such as the Shadows of the Empire instead of rehashing these old movies?
True, Jim did brilliant work, and honestly the CGI of the first three newer movies looked fake compared with the puppets in the older films.
George Lucas = Biggest Troll in the Film Industry VIVA STAR WARS!
The funny thing about this all, he's still going to make a killing out of this. This guy is a genius. A true buisnessman. He doesn't care what a few little nerds think about his changes.
Yep I'll still buy it. It's STAR WARS anyways.
The George Lucas franchise will be featuring new versions of the six Star Wars movies upon the September 16 release of the Blu-ray home video release. http://bit.ly/qnLq5X
In 10 more years, Lucas will introduce a deluxe retro unplugged version. It will be: all 6 movies, original theatrical releases, no future edits, no cleanup. $150 if you first purchase whatever the latest revision of something is, on sale 30 days only. Mark your calendars for September 2021!
I have sweaty bawls. I shall now dip them in butter.
The earth is warming, the polar bears are drowning, there are fascists disguised as Christian fundamentalists trying to wrest control of the government from the governed, and you poor saps are worried about Darth Vader saying "no?" That's it, we're all screwed.
So what are you doing to halt global warming, rescue drowning polar bears and joust with those fictional fascists that only exist in your paranoid fantasies? Oh yeah, nothing because you are wasting your time commenting about how we are all wasting our time.
We would now like to welcome our affiliates at MSNBC to the programme, get a life loser, Rick Perry for Prez...
Actually, your global warming fears are based on the measured data that the earth seems to be 1.4 degrees F since 1880. That's 1 degree in 100 years. That means you will have to live 100 more years in order to even notice the difference. We haven't been able to accurately measure temperature beyond the past few hundred years, so ANYTHING prior to that is conjecture and speculation. Furthermore, the "global warming scare" assumes that it is in fact ONLY getting warmer, and is not in a cycle of heating and cooling. So what if it gets a few degrees warmer over the next 300 years? Can we say that it won't, and that it's not normal, for it to then cool by 3 degrees over 300 years? WE DO NOT KNOW.
Can humans be affecting it? Surely. Are some species going to suffer? Probably, but this is natural and they're part of nature. They'll adapt or they won't survive. The earth will go on in spite of your efforts to save or destroy it.
Also, your concern of Christian fundamentalists stealing control of the government is laughable when you should be more concerned with the "Is he Muslim or Christian this week?" president in there now, who was heavily informed in his childhood by Marxist and Socialist upbringing.
Now back to what's important. GEORGE LUCAS: STOP IMPROVING YOUR MOVIES, YOU'RE ONLY MAKING IT WORSE!
I agree, you idiots find a little changes to star wars important. GROW UP! BUY OR IGNORE!
So because there are multiple problems with the world, I'm only aloud to focus on the big ones you choose, and not other things as well?
When you go to a restaurant and are served an awful meal, do you say "Well, the world has lots of problems, so it's ok that they served me the wrong food, undercooked it, and spit in my soup!"
HELL NO! It is possible to care about the world's problems, and also to be outraged by business practices of companies and of artists. Everything in this world matters, from the smallest things to the largest. And you know what? Cultural preservation, artistic preservation, it matters to a lot of us! Art is part of what makes us human, and we need to preserve it and respect it if we are to preserve our humanity!
Well Lucas has never been known for writing good dialog, and so now he tampers with his films to add a stunning scene of deep dialog of, "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" WOW! Well done George. Really, he needs to stop obsessing and leave his films alone! But on the other hand too bad he couldn't digitally edit out those pesky Ewoks! At the end of the day, after Lord of the Rings came out it became so much more apparent how shallow the entire Star Wars Series was. Some great moment to be sure, but on a whole not near as poignant as Lord of the Rings. And the "first three" were terrible with non continuity with the original three. Too much CGI that made the films look like comic books. Pretty underwhelming.
Just stfu and buy the movies again.
Simple solution......DONT BUY THE BLUE RAY's. A hurt to George's Fat Wallet may be the only thing that wises his ass up to these stupid changes all the time
I dont think he would listen. We have been screaming at the man to stop for years and he does not listen.
He just spits in our faces and laughs his way to the bank.
Sad that George Lucas, who led the fight against the colorization of films, feels the need to tinker and "update" his own films every two years.
He enhanced the original explosion of the Death Star. He changed the scene where Han Solo shot Greedo, by having Greedo also shoot his blaster. He added Jaba the Hut in the original Star Wars. He changed the old English looking guy who played the holographic after life image of Anikan Skywalker at the end of the Return of the Jedi with Hayden Christensen. And, he replaced the Ewoks with the Munchkins for the Wizard of Oz (oh wait that doesn't happen until 2012).
I think the funniest spoof of the Lucas / Spielberg greed fixatioin with having to digitally remaster their movies (remember Spielberg replacing the guns held by the police officers with walkie-talkies) is the South Park epsiode: Free Hat. Check it out: http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s06e09-free-hat
p.s, This Comment will be digitally remastered in two days.
Death Star explosion was no big deal, neither was adding the extra X-wings. The Jabba scene in 4 was not added but fixed as the original scene had a human and was cut out from the original print as it didn't fit in with the plans for the Hutt. The Wampa battle in was in the novelization and missing from the original. The Vader NO is just unnecessary, though, as was adding the extended Endor scene at the end of 6.
What they really need to fix is the boarding scene in 4 (backwards explosion?) and the saber battle in 4 to not look like glowsticks–that and give OBK some more agility, for cripes' sakes!
Why can't Lucas ever leave well enough alone? At what point are the movies finally considered finished?
Just imagine an artist running to the museum every couple of years and insisting that he be allowed to make changes to a painting hanging on the wall, "I've decided I want to change the color of Mona Lisa's eyes!" This is how Lucas will be remembered, as an obsessive compulsive kook.
Lucas wants to rerelease the trilogies to make money but he uses the rereleases as opportunities to satisfy his ego, as well as bank acct. 1st:By making changes to movies he made when he was a better director/producer, hes saying hes improving them, therefore he must be a better fimmaker than before. 2nd: He gets attention, not just the films. Hes making sure everyone knows that though they buy versions of his Star Wars toys, he owns the REAL TOYS, and can change them, destroy them or just take em home! He doesnt want us to forget hes there, and Star Wars belongs to him! And he succeeds @ the 2nd but as for the 1st, NO CHANCE! Hes not even a shadow of the filmmaker he was when he directed Star Wars or wrote Raiders!
I would have thought that people who care enough about these films to melodramatically complain about the changes to begin with would also have availed themselves of copies of the films in their more-or-less original state by now. I say "more-or-less" because the history of making small edits to subsequent releases of these films dates back to 1981, but what people think of as the "originals" really means anything pre-Special Edition in 1997. I assume we are all familiar with the technologies of VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD, correct? I assume we are also familiar with sites such as eBay and Amazon, where copes of the "originals" in all those formats are sold for anything from a minor to a moderate cost, yes? I assume that many of us are also familiar with methods to convert those films to digital files for archival purposes, right?
Oh, I see. You want the version of the films that most appeals to you in the highest possible quality available for the consumer market at any given time. You want to have your cake and eat it too. You want George Lucas to prepare a separate HD master of three films in a form with which he is unsatisfied solely for the purpose of satisfying the tastes of consumers who spew venom at him and his recent works. Gee, can't imagine why he might not be interested in doing that...
Way to completely miss the point Bysshe. The current changes like adding in a "Nooo!" or replacing Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen, they completely destroy the emotion of historical and culturally important scenes. We need to preserve these films as they were originally created. We need to respect the artform. Once art is released to the public, it becomes part of the public consciousness and belongs to everyone who grew up with the films.
Yes there are VCRs and awful DVD transfers that only exist as a special feature on the altered DVDs, but will those stand the test of time? Lucas only released the original cuts on DVD (a straight transfer from the laserdiscs, btw. No restoration. No going back to the negs or making new digital masters. Just straight download) because enough fans complained.
And if we don't complain now, then the VHS tapes and DVDs will fade away in the next 20yrs. And all that will remain are the far inferior BluRays with intrusive updates that are obvious, poorly executed, and ruin the artistry of the films. We need to complain if the original cuts are to be preserved for future generations. Audiences should be given an honest choice. Works of art should be preserved and not altered!
Noooooo!
With Hollywood having "Remake Fever" I'm surprised Lucas hasn't tried to just reboot the whole series and re-film the originals entirely with a new cast. Sure it's blasphemous, but when has that stopped Lucas before?
Sweet! Maybe Zac Effron could play Luke!? M&*(^%$#...er! Lucas, not you.
Really lame... again. They have been doing "revisions" for a while now, Lucas probably thinks in time people will just take it as is, but history will probably look at it more as a cautionary tale of needlessly tinkering with your own product.
Well if people don't like the change they don't have to buy the disk. That will send a strong message to George (who doesn't care about anything outside of his wallet).
Why try to fix a classic when it doesn't need to be fixed ?!?
I hear he's buying the Mona Lisa just to add CGI eyebrows to it.
For those of you who've cancelled you blu-ray pre-orders and would like to vent, there's a Facebook page set up just for that purpose:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Star-Wars-Boycott-The-Blu-Rays/269110113114406?sk=wall
SAVE STAR WARS! BOYCOTT THE BLU-RAYS!
Lucas is one of the worst directors on the planet, maybe a step above Ed Wood. He doesn't direct actors and is perfectly happy with the bad acting in his films.
Star wars sucks anyway
It could be much worse. He could have said, "I'm Darth Vader, B!+(#".
How about, "I'm Darth f*#k!ng Vader!"
Not sure which is the saddest part of this whole story – Damon Lindelof thinks that the finale of Lost is in the same league as Star Wars or that he thinks that anyone would care if he made the dog yell out "Noo" at the end of the series.
Don't get me started on LOST. What a total let-down. They convinced the network to let them plan an ending so they could tie things up and do it with a plan? WHAT A CROCK! Then they added a bunch of characters and story lines, introduced travel through time and space, and ended by wasting HALF THE FINAL SEASON in a side-plot in purgatory!?!?! I'd like to punch those guys in the nose. Ten times more annoying than the X-Files, and I wanted to throw my popcorn bowl through the TV back then.
Here's all anyone needs to know about LOST, in one sentence: a bunch of damaged and troubled people crash on a really weird island, and eventually find themselves, and they die happily ever after. It's for people who like chick flicks with death and destruction.
This makes about as much sense as Rob Zombie having Michael Myers grunt and moan during his 2nd installment of Halloween. Totally ruined it.
I see you missed the part were Myers grunted and moaned his way through John Carpenter's first movie.
More liberal propaganda. Star Wars were the six worst films ever to push the agenda of the party of hate.
Is your aluminum foil hat on a little tight?
Great, now everyone knows about the Libtärd Conspiracy. All Sleepers execute protocol foxtrot-zulu-alpha until b-cell activation confirmed.
Now THAT'S good satire. Even though conservatives are already walking jokes, it's still humorous.
Wow. Look, Brain Damage, you're supposed to take that stuff OUT of the the plastic bag before you smoke it. Stay off your computer when you're high.
Vader's "Noo" is bad, but the psycho scream he added in for Obi Wan Kenobi takes the cake.
The Kenobi scream was not added, it was enhanced. The scream is the Krayt Dragon scream in ANH that sends the sand people running.
I am a die hard fan but this may be enough for me to not buy the blu ray version
The changes Lucas made to the DVD versions was enough for me to stick with my old unedited VHS movies. Lucas is a HACK and he's ruining everything that was great about these movies.
It's too bad. I had heard a rumor that the Blu-ray was going to contain both the special edition and the original theatrical version. That was the only reason I was excited to get it. Now, not only is there no original version, but the special edition contains even more changes? No thanks. It's time for the fans to put their collective foot down and tell him to stop this train wreck, and give us back the movies we fell in love with.
Agreed MissMarla. The reason WHY Star Wars and Empire were excellent is he had Spielberg in edits with him during Star Wars and Kasdan made Empire sing with the script. 50% of the original trilogy was other people in the mix during decision time. My guess is that Lucas is one of those hacks who was made good by surrounding himself with the right people. Now that he is on the throne alone, we see how truly untalented he is.
return of the brown eye......a wrinkly crumb filled brown eye
Now that he's got complete control, he doesn't have anyone close to him who is willing to tell him NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It's a good thing kids these days have Harry Potter. Lucky for them J.K.Rowling (so far) is too classy to do to her franchise what Lucas is doing to his.
Completely agree. JK Rowling cares about her fans almost to a fault, lol.
I saw the clip. It sucks the emotion and tension right out of the scene. I am starting to believe that George Lucas hates Star Wars fans.
I saw the clip of this scene, and yes, it's just ridiculous.
Yep, it is utterly ridiculous and RUINS the scene. Pegg was 100% right. The wordless realization of what he needs to do and why was poignant. Him yelling for the emperor to stop before deciding to act, and then yelling more afterward is just sad and pathetic. Of course, this is the same fallen hero who turned the rogue who shot first into a nice guy who only shoots in self-defense, so understanding what made his characters special and memorable to begin with and maintaining that is clearly NOT his strong suit.
Sad thing is, I used to think he was an amazing story teller. These changes over the last decade have revealed that it was all those around him who (somewhat ironically) had the power to say "No" to his ridiculous ideas that were the real amazing storytellers and now that we've seen the real Lucas without the creative filter of collaboration on him come forth...well, my opinion his abilities have gone from positive to sour to downright shameful.
They should get Seth Macfarlane to do the voice of Stewie as Darth saying NOOOOOOO
You're a moron and that show is terrible.
"BREAKING NEWS," all of us here feel very sorry for you. Know that we're praying for you to cultivate a sense of humor and an understanding of satire, and to get rid of the extreme bitterness you carry around.
Well, at least Jar Jar doesn't show up in the scene! We could add a Tween Princess Lea in though! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miDpUcZ1gx0
Noooooooooo!
Mesa be very annoyed for Jar Jar!
