Katie Couric's new talk show to be called 'Katie'Katie Couric says she won't be able to fill Oprah Winfrey's talk show shoes, but she is following in the queen of daytime TV's footsteps with one thing: her show title. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Couric's fall 2012 talk show on ABC will be called "Katie." Some of the promotional material being floated about has the tagline, "The Opportunity Begins September 6." (What opportunity? The opportunity to watch "Katie," clearly.) In June, Couric announced that she was departing her gig at CBS and moving to ABC to not only anchor her own syndicated talk show, but also to take part in the network's news programming.
At the time, Disney/ABC Television Group President Anne Sweeney said, "Katie Couric is one of television's iconic figures and we are thrilled to have forged such an exciting partnership with her...We look forward to having Katie join the best news team in the business, and to working with her to create a dynamic and successful talk show franchise." Details of what the show will be about are few and far between, but according to THR, the focus will be on topical issues and efforts to "capture the zeitgeist of what people are talking about." For example, Sweeney told the trade paper, "It might be a profile of a navy seal after Osama Bin Laden has been killed; it might talk about women in the military and some of the stresses they experience in re-entry with their families." Couric's show is scheduled to debut in the fall of 2012, which also caused some to worry that her foray into daytime TV may kill off "General Hospital." According to a statement from the network at the time, eight ABC-owned stations (in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Houston, Raleigh/Durham and Fresno) had cleared the 3 o’clock hour to make room for Couric’s program. But there's still a long way to go before "Katie" hits the air, an ABC spokesperson said, and it could mean that "General Hospital" will simply be bumped to another time slot. “We went out of our way to state that we continue to support the show,” the spokesperson said. “We have a long time between now and Fall of 2012, so fans should be encouraged to continue watching and supporting.”

I love Katie Couric! She was a hoot on The Today Show, and did an okay job on The CBS Evening News. While I am sad that General Hospital's fate is in question, I am glad that Katie is with the best newsteam there is
I actually cannot stand Couric. Her whole demeanor and somewhat integrity is so fake. She is so vain and arrogant, she doesn't even realize she is a has been. The show may last a year but will need to be carried by the network just like the evening news.
That's just what we do NOT need.....another talk show, especially one with Katie at the helm. She was good at reporting the news but after awhile, kind of gets on your nerves. I have no plans of even tuning in to watch her as I do not like any of the talk shows they have and wouldn't waste my time in doing so. This woman was getting millions of dollars a year just to report the news and to do 'specials'. She is way overrated and has a big ego. No thank you....will not be supporting this program. When I read that they may move General Hospital to another time, that was the last straw. In due time, the ratings will not be what the network was hoping for, so will cancel.

This woman is like one of those reality shows. She really isn't worth much in the interview business. Anybody can sit down and read the news from a prompter. She isn't that good looking. She ego is larger than she is and it is growing. Didn't she get the hint when they fired, (they did it the nice way by asking her to leave because ratings were bad). She is like that other idiot from msnbc. the one that thought he was a sports jock broadcaster till they booted him. He went to the worse news show in the history of TV. He gets booted from there after the idiots finally realized he was worthless, then he goes and gets some other person's ear and they start up this new program where he is their big "hit"! Well, it didn't take long before they realized he wasn't such a hit. In fact, he was a flop and a big flop. Maybe he could throw that into one of his last segments....I'm a big time flip flop. I flipped over to here from that other flop place msnbc and not I have been flopped out of this place which will be another big flop right after I leave. I think I am going to flip flop out of America and go hide in a flipping island where nobody knows who I am. H.e.l.l., he doesn't need to flop to a place like that. He could flop to a place like Bisbee Arizona. They aren't into TVs much and he actually might be able to get a job at the mine giving tours! It sure would be a step up for him. He wouldn't even need to change his name! His first and last name first letters represent what has happened to him....K.O.'d.

Entertainment just isn't Entertainment any more. Originality and Creativity have left the Industry. They find a thing that works and then completely oversaturate with that one thing in many versions. UGH! Talk shows are just a way to pump their own advertisement of their own projects. UGH!
I have never really be a fan of KC. She was ok on the Today show, however, she is not a very good interviewer. She asks a question and includes possible answers. I am sorry to see her move to ABC especially to be involved in the news dept. I think they have one of the best with George S. Oh well. Let her have a chance at another failure. Being interestng and making your subject interesting is an art. She needs to go back to school – and not to teach.
A show all about the unit of measurement for a log of p00! Maybe this will help that ragged old washed up thing find a fountain of youth before she is fully fossilized. At least her empty head will make a fabulous place to store extra bags to pull over her head. Don't let the haters get to you Katie! Hold on to that walker and keep up your parade of fugly!!

Can't STAND her! At least we won't have to hear the hideous robotic delivery of her "serious news voice." She always seemed to quit that when she did fluff on the Today show.

I never could understand why people who just talk on TV and do nothing else, make so much money. Anyone on TV isn't worth the money they get. Notice I didn't say earn. There are people who are worth a lot of money, but not TV stars. People like doctors, environmentalist who try to help heal the Earth, people who work with the disabled and poor, anyone who help people and the environment are worth far more than those TV and Hollywood people.

I am looking foward to watching Katie's talk show. She was wonderful on the TODAY show. The CBS evening news wasn't her forum where she could express herself. Having said that, I think she did a great job while interviewing Sarah Palin. Katie is talented and this DAYTIME forum is going to make her a STAR again!

I don't quite understand why Ms. Couric has lasted so long in this medium. It will be interesting to see if she makes it this time. As for the name "Katie," it's obvious she's trying to be another "Oprah;" and another Oprah she will never be.
Same reason that every movie out now is a re-make or a sequel:
No one in charge of entertainment can think of anything new, and they don't want to risk giving a chance to an unknown.
Oprah, Ellen, and The View are only three shows. There must be a market for several thousand more shows like that, right?

No, Katie, you definitely don't rock. You recently tanked on the CBS Evening News;your newscast LOST viewers and thankfully you were replaced by the MUCH better Scott Pelley.
And in "this day and age," anyone can get a talk show. Remember Sharon Osbourne? Roseanne Arnold? Jerry Springer? Rikki Lake? Pat Sajak? Katie, your talk show will not make it. It doesn't matter how much you smile...or wear those glasses and try to look stern...or wear short skirts to show off your legs...your talk show will fail.

Besides following her very successful career over the years, I recently had the pleasure of hearing Katie Couric speak live and in person at the Boston University graduation last spring. She was terrific. She exudes intelligence and integrity, has a wonderful sense of humor, and was very poised, articulate and well-spoken.
Palin totally blew her interviews with Couric and had no one to blame but herself, so get over it. Couric lobbed one softball after another Palin's way, and Palin completely flubbed each and every one. It was Palin's fault, and the fact that she refuses to own that fact and singled out Couric for blame for the results of what was obviously her own failure to prepare speaks volumes about her lack of character.
I'll add that the rabid attacks by Palin's supporters on Couric are not only completely unjustifiable, they speak volumes about the creepiness of Palin's "fans," too.

Katy Couric gave a scripted speech so that means she will have a great talk show.? Hardly. She failed CBS and her attempt to be another OPRAH, while claiming she isn't, proves she is a phoney.
