VMA promo features Britney/Janet mash-up

A new promo for MTV’s Video Music Awards - to air August 28 - premiered last night during “Jersey Shore.”

The 30-second clip features a mash-up of tunes by Britney Spears and Janet Jackson. Fittingly, one poster shows Spears’ head sitting on top of Jackson’s body in her iconic Rolling Stone cover from 1993.

The "Till The World Ends" singer appears in the promo, but doesn’t join in the dancing. (Around the 10-second mark, an extra can be seen wearing the pink-thong-over-jeans and matching top she donned in her “I’m A Slave For You” video.)

“Billy Jean” and “Like A Virgin” are also scribbled on posters that pop-up throughout the video - no doubt paying tribute to Michael Jackson and Madonna.

Its good to see MTV paying tribute to Britney even though it may be a little too soon, I think there are other artisit out there who are more deserving of the honer. I also like how they put Janets "Rhythm Nation" song and chreography in the promo. I mean if you watch Britney perform Janet was obviosly a staple to Britneys pop sucess. I think she was more influenced by Janet than any other performer before her time.

Britney fully deserves it, shes an ICON and an Amazing performer who has changed pop music. Shes the only pop star who gets talked about on whatever she does, she influences people.

Whether it was when she jumped to the head of the class alongside ‘NSync in 1999, sang “Oops!..I Did It Again” while performing her own strip tease, the snake, Madonna’s kiss, the 2007 performance disaster… every single Britney moment at the VMAs has been one to talk about. http://bit.ly/pPPo3z

I am very proud of MTV for recognizing Janet Jackson back in 2001. Britney i feel is very young and hasn't acheiveed Icon status but she is very close because of her influence
