Corey Feldman: Biggest problem in Hollywood is pedophilia

According to former child star Corey Feldman, child molestation is rampant in the entertainment industry, as he told Nightline in an interview.

"The No. 1 problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia," he said Wednesday. According to Feldman, the “casting couch” exists for children, too.

Feldman asserts that directors and other adults in the industry take advantage of young aspiring actors on a regular basis. “It's all done under the radar... But it's the big secret,” the 40-year-old said.

Feldman also claimed that former co-star Corey Haim's death last year was the end result of sexual abuse by an unnamed "Hollywood mogul." Feldman said that his friend’s substance addiction was "a symptom” of the molestation he experienced.

The actor previously revealed to GQ that he was raped by his assistant as a child. "It's something that will be addressed in my inner soul for the rest of my life, and it's something that truly affects me,” he told the magazine.

Why is it so necessary to always mention Michael Jackson in connection with Corey Feldman's words? Why are you so ignorant and lazy? Why don't you do just a quick check-up and find that Corey Feldman was interviewed by the police and didn’t say a single bad word about MJ?

And Corey Haim also said Michael Jackson was one of the best people he ever met in life:

HAIM: I was at Neverland eight, nine, some odd years ago, when he was going through the thing with the kid. And I even said to him then, are you are right with this kid thing? He said, yes, I am fine.
He was one of the smartest, sweetest guys I have ever met in my life. And there are a lot of these weird allegations going around about like, people saw my show and somehow they think I got molested when I was a kind by Michael Jackson.
And I really want to throw it out there, that never happened.
VAN SUSTEREN: How old were you at that time?
HAIM: Like I said, it was in the last decade, about a decade ago I was there.
VAN SUSTEREN: Well, how old are you now?
    HAIM: I’m 37. When I was 29 I was there.
He was just a really nice guy. I do not know how to explain that. I knew nothing happened. Just my first impression of him, that’s just me, you know? I did not know him as well as a lot of people.

Don’t you see that REAL pedophiles were simply distracting attention from themselves by all this hoopla around Jackson?

    Fame at what price?!
It's sickening what goes on underneath the polished surface of our most idolized places that are coveted by so many naive people! Somehow it does not surprise me. I can only pass by the check out counters in any store , or flip the channel to "Entertainment Today", and see the fake smiles, the pretense of glamor, the phony happiness on those people's faces.
I only feel sorry for those who fall for the "fool's treasure" trap, and then find out how empty and hollow it is... But for some it becomes too late by the time they see reality! That's why Hollywood glamor is nothing but a satan's trap for so many naive souls!

Unless he names names, he's just saying this to get attention. There is no "bravery" involved. As a matter of fact, if he knows who the "unnamed mogul" is who molested his friend, an action he describes that led to his friend's suicide, then he is a coward for not naming him, and part of the problem.

You cant blame every single thing that goes wrong in your life on molestation. There are no proven connections. So what, you may have gotton corn holed as a young person, get over it and move on. It doesnt give you the right to use an excuse for every failure you have in life. Geez, this is as old as the race card.

The biggest enemy is both gay men and also straight men who hate gay men, (phobic of them), or women who hate them, because they will say to boys who are not gay, sure you are, admit it, come out, we all know you are, you just dont know it, people who say you act gay or fem etc are destroyers of children growing up. re: hollywood mogul, Grow up! Obviously the statue of limitations has expired, and accusing in public would result in a slanderous lawsuit. Try proving something happened to you that long ago, and see how far you get. Many abused children don't expose stuff until their adults and ready, it doesn't mean it didn't happen. He is helping now, by exposing this, possibly already told others his secret, who then can spread the word. We need to protect our children everywhere!

What happened to these two young men is awful BUT why then did they continue to hang around Hollywood looking for work and getting wasted; why did they not leave it all behind them and use what money they earned to go to college and start new decent productive lives far away from the entertainment industry. Sorry but I think the reason so many young actors crash & burn is because they are still trying to find their way back to the top when their star has obviously fallen: save yourself and get out of town.

I absolutely believe him. It didn't surprise me at all. I first noticed he had a lot of pent up rage just trying to get out after MJ died. It was very difficult for him to say anything even remotely negative just after his death do to MJ being vaulted by much of the world into godly saint status, up there with Ghandi and Mother Theresa. But one thing he said in an interview caught my attention. He said that when he was a child and first became famous, MJ called him and started spending lots of time with him, including sleep overs, etc, then when Corey got a little older MJ tired of him and stopped calling and he claimed that this really messed him up psychologically during a very vulnerable time in his life. I was surprised because it must have been very hard for him to say something even remotely negative about MJ in that atmosphere. To me however, he was almost hinting that MJ molested him and I have no doubt that he did. Eventually, Corey Feldman or McCauley Culkin will spill the beans about MJ. I do understand why Corey would not name names ... the kind of power and money we're talking about is no joke ... he could very well be killed or have his life made even tougher than it already is. I have a lot of respect for him for speaking out about these things and having the courage to live his own life and to not repeat the same mistakes his parents made with his own child.

I literally have not seen any of them, not even one. Sorry, Corey Feldman. Your opinion on anything matters no more and no less to me than some random guy at the supermarket or on a bus. Eventually Americans will learn that "Hollywood pseudostar" does not equal "expert on any subject about which they care to express an opinion."

If a marine biologist who's been at it for over 30 yrs told me a fact about the ocean I'd bet he knows what he's talking about more than maybe....some random guy in the supermarket. So, why wouldn't you be inclined to believe Feldman about Hollywood insider info? That's what he's known for; child stardom.

Corey is correct and I applaud him for coming out and talking about this. I do wish that he would name names. If he can't do it, there are many sources that could take the info and out it for him. There are many reasons that child actors go down the wrong path and this is one of them.

I have always thought Corey Feldman was hot and interesting. I've enjoyed his work and seeing him in his sobriety. I would love to see him stand up on this subject and really start to do some serious work. Perhaps he can't call out specific people for legal reasons. But, there are many things he could do. I would love to see him make this a platform and start doing investigative work, conduct interviews, create sting operations and anything else he could come up with. He is a very creative man. I'd love to see him take that creativity and apply it to this situation and really run with it. This could take his career to an entirely different level.

They both already did so – both Coreys have stated that MJ never once touched them inappropriately or even said anything to make them uncomfortable. Culkin demonstrated his innocence by remaining friends with Micael until his death. What victim of something that heinous would want to be on the same CONTINENT as their attacker, let alone remain friends?

They only people who have said otherwise were members of his staff (bodygaurds, maids) who had no evidence to back their claims, and were hoping to sell their story for a huge profit.

I don't think that just because they (Feldman and Culkin) were pressured into asking yes or no questions and they said "no" because they weren't ready to deal with the storm of negative attacks that would certainly have come from MJ's army of worshippers. I also think that Culkin and Feldman possibly still had conflicting feelings from MJ until his death. Feldman did claim that MJ screwed him up psychologically by pouring lots of attention on him and then dumping him cold when he grew older. To me that strongly suggests molestation. Feldman or Culkin will eventually talk about it, I'm sure, if they ever feel like it's safe enough to do so.

Well Janet, and you other people who are just SURE Jackson molested kids – where you butt buddies with Jackson? No you're just another know it all who refuses to listen to people who, unlike you, actually knew Jackson – including by the way Feldman and Haim who have consistently said that Jackson never hurt them. There is absolutely no reason for Feldman to continue saying that unless it is true. Also, as someone else has pointed out, not one other "victim" has come forward after Jackson's death to say he molested them although they are all now grown. In Jackson's case he not only stood trial he was investigated for 18 years by the FBI, LAPD, Santa Barbara DA (who had a hard-on to convict him ), and the media. So, unless you have evidence that has not been found in 18 years of intense vetting go pound sand. The other people mentioned in this post need to be investigated just as thoroughly not smeared on the basis or rumor and hearsay.

River Pheonix is dead, Corey Haim is dead, maybe Feldman is just trying to spark a light in to what's going on. Someone up-thread made a very thoughtful comment about how all these child actors could not be organically mentally ill based on a percentage of the population.Crispin Glover is a nut, but I would look into his allegations. I'm curious about one legal thing. If Feldman knows the name of the person that committed the crime of abusing Haim, isn't he required by law to disclose it to the police? Wouldn't knowing about a crime and the perpetrator of a crime and saying nothing be considered at the very least obstruction of justice?

    August 13, 2011 at 11:39 am | Report abuse |
    • @Paul NYC

No, Mr. Feldman is not a mandated reporter. Victim of abuse are not required to report and most do not. With more awareness and more gentle accepting of abuse survivors (although society in general still tends to blame the victim) more victims are coming forward sooner. There are many legitimate reasons that survivors do not come forward and it really is a very personal decision. Believe me when I say that it is something that many of us survivors struggle with daily. Considering that the average time between when the abuse ends and when the survivor first has the courage to talk about what happened is 17.6 years by then often the statute of limitations has kicked in.

I hope someday that all young victims will be able to come forward and tell immediately, but I understand why in most cases that is just not possible. It is very easy for society to sit back and second guess a survivor's choice, but to not come forward is something that should not be second guessed. In Mr. Feldman's case I would guess that without evidence it would just be a he said/he said situation ending with Mr. Feldman being accused of slander. Don't forget – Hollywood moguls have very high priced attorneys.

Just like a serial killer is evil and insane, and totally lacks empathy for anyone else, so is a pedophile. Instead of choosing to kill themselves or at the very least having themselves castrated to prevent them from harming another child, they are too mentally insane and sick to do anything to prevent their crimes, and continue to hurt children again and again and again and again.

I have tried to post twice and I do not wish to retype everything again. Hopefully, this one will get through. Feldman introduced Haim to his abuser and this happened when Haim was either 14 or 15. During that time, Feldman was working on The Goonies which was directed by Speilberg. Haim never worked with Speilberg, and again, Feldman introduced Haim to his abuser. During an interview with Greta Van Sustern, Haim said that he was first introduced to MJ by Feldman, and then by Speilberg. Why was Speilberg introducing Haim to anyone when the two never worked together? (BTW, both Coreys have always maintained that MJ did not molest them.)

I could of course be wrong, but I wonder about this. Speilberg has always seemed like a pedophile to me. Think about his movies; who is usually the central character? A young boy with either absentee or clueless parents. I have always wondered why his first wife got such a huge divorce settlement – to keep his tawdry secrets perhaps? Consider Crispin Glover's comment that Speilberg is a pedophile. (Glover played George McFly in Back to the Future. He has written some very outlandish things but that does not mean that the pedophile comment is false,)

Schumacher has always been openly gay but I do not think that it was him. For one thing, the age does not jibe as Haim's rapist was in his 40's at the time.

Another secret that some are not aware of is that rich and powerful men can offer hush money for a legal hush contract, which is then sealed by the court. So those that can't name names of their abusers are stuck and at risk of being sued themselves. Sometimes kids and adults sign hush contracts without receiving any money because they are threatened or pressured to sign for a variety of reasons which the lawyers ignore (yep under duress, but can't prove it later on). Another reason pedophiles get away with this (no prison time) is because the trauma of the abuse was so severe they put it out of their mind and didn't recall it until the statute of limitations ran out. PTSD can make you forget, but then recall it later when you're older. Pedophiles choose specific occupations and yearn to achieve positions of power so they can carry out their sick desires. I'm a 40 plus yr old victim, of many different people who had an immense network of powerful unscrupulous sick people. The people that were supposed to protect me allowed it to happen. I still live in fear.

You are wrong it is illegal to offer money to someone to keep them from testifying in a criminal case. You can sign an agreement not to talk on TV shows, or write books but you can't pay someone not to testify in a criminal trial, it is a form of bribery. The person could take the money and sill testify in a criminal trial.

Mackenzie Phillips from One Day At A Time wrote a book a couple years ago about how all that sort of thing happened to her. Adding also to that her dad did things like that to her. Of course this out of work for 100 years washout needed a ratings boost and how nice of her to slam her dad about 34 seconds after he died so he was not around to answer to the her charges, be they true or false! We've got her and that old washout from Superman that on one has seen for years and years suddenly showing up in someone's backyard claiming that someone is chasing her all the while everyone knows she's totally trying to be beat herself into a ratings boost frenzy! If Mr. Goonies was subjected to this wrong and there is any truth to it, let him call the accused onto the mat and also the person that supposedly did horrible things to Corey H. Otherwise unsubstantiated rumors are just that and these people are looking for a way...back in to an industry that coughed them out decades ago !

If you understood what grade school and high school is actually teaching you it wouldn't be that big of a deal to you. School is to teach you how to learn not really about what you learn. That's why companies like college graduates, because they have showen they know how to learn.

If child molestation is occurring in Hollywood or anywhere else for that matter, responsible adults should not just give interviews to the news media–if they have information on the topic they should talk to prosecutors and send anyone who is convicted of that disgusting in jail.

If it controls you, it will eat you up for the rest of your life. Become a survivor and do what it takes to go on with your life. The way I've come to terms with it. Corey, I'm really sorry you were molested as a child. I was too, and I know the devastation it can cause. I don't know if it was you or the editor of this article, but this article seems to suggest that pedophilia is more of a problem in Hollywood than elsewhere. That is not the case. Pedophilia affects the rich, the poor, and the middle class. It affects the famous, the infamous, and the unknown. It affects all religions and races, boys and girls, gay and straight. Pedophilia is pandemic, and until we can accurately state that rather than trying to blame certain niches of society, the problem will continue to grow and fester.

Not sure why this didn't post before, Jackson and Feldman remained friends until 2001, when Feldman was an adult, and had a falling out about something. They never regained their friendship and Feldman said after Jackson's death that he now lives with the regret. It is not surprising that he cried at Jackson's funeral, he loved him and unlike you knew him very well.

Sorry this upsets you but Jackson didn't molest anyone – that's why none of his many other "victims" have come forward since his death despite the fact they are grown now. At some time in the future he may feel stronger and be ready to press charges, but he is obviously not there yet. These situations are hardly ever as simple as we would like to think, and none of us know the details. Let him be where he is. Let him heal as he heals. Are you suggesting that until he is ready to behave as YOU see fit, then he has no right to discuss what happened to him? I thought this was America. the statute of limitations on molestation in this case passed a long time ago. i know from personal experience that you cannot do anything to a child molester through the justice system after the statute has passed. besides confronting the person who did it (which, honestly, wasn't very helpful for me) there's not really anything anyone can do. if he accuses them in public he could be sued for defamation. depending on how he handled the accusation he could also be sued for harassment. his options are extremely limited, and they are limited to things that might help him heal but will not help other potential victims.

What Woody did is creepy, but there's no evidence anything happened when she was underaged. What seems to have happened was that Soon-Yi (who Allen did not adopt, by the way) comforted him through the deterioration of his relationship with Mia Farrow, something sparked, and Mia used that to blast him, in court and in the press, and she made all kinds of accusations that made him sound like he'd molested their three children. Never happened. I admit the scandal shook my admiration for Woody, and I had been a major fan of his before then. However it should be pointed out they have now been together for 19 years. It wasn't about her age, which was 21 when it started in 1992.

Molesters will molest children of all ages, even newborns. And the daughter that Woody was accused of molesting was seven years old. The D.A. was going to prosecute Woody for child molestation, but decided against it because he didn't want the little girl to have to appear in court. And Mia discovered the relationship between Woody and Soon-yi when she found nude pics of Soon-Yi taken in Woody's home. They kept separate residences.

Because sadly, he doesn't have any proof. Most of the time its just the word of the victim aganist the attacker; especially since it has been so long. A lot of strait men do little boys as not to worry about pregnancy as well. I don't have any reason to doubt the man, he isn't making nothing off of his story BECAUSE he can't/won't name names. No, it's because money matters more in Hollywood (and to people in general) and just like a poor person abused by the police, he knows he stands no chance complaining or suing and will only increase the pressure on himself. And if Corey, neither, had the money to sue, or felt they had a lack of evidence, how will the poor fare?

If Corey Feldman has reason to believe that Corey Haim didn't want the world to know what happened to him, then I agree that it's slimy.

But it's entirely possible that Haim kept his silence because of fear of retaliation from the molester, or fear that he'd be blackballed in Hollywood, or because he didn't want to be reminded all the time about what happened to him, etc. And if that's the case, then there's nothing wrong with Feldman coming forward.

As for Corey Haim not having the chance to deny it – if Corey Feldman is certain that it happened, I don't see the issue. It's not as if he's badmouthing his friend.

@Anna: Actually, the abuse Haim and Feldman suffered was a pretty frequent topic that they both talked about in their 'reality' show "The Two Coreys". Nothing he said in this article wasn't already talked about on that show, so he's not really airing a dead man's secrets.

Even though truth is a DEFENSE to libel and defamation, he probably doesn't have the means to defend himself against a rich, Hollywood, and he knows it. It's sad. But, I understand it. He gets his "revenge" by scaring these people into the possibility that he will reveal, it's all he can do. "Haim’s death was listed as “natural,” the result of diffuse alveolar damage, which is a serious lung injury that can be caused by a number of factors. Pneumonia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (where the heart muscles become so strong they lower the heart’s ability to pump blood) with coronary arteriosclerosis (where artery walls become thick) were also listed as the actor’s cause of death."

His parents are the ones who pushed him into the industry and probably turned the other cheek. Kids that young, starting out, don't have much of a choice when their parents have some pipe dream of their kid becoming famous.

It's all about greed, money and power ... and these poor innocent children have to pay a VERY heavy price.

I have no doubt that these claims are true. Abuse by big money folks is easily covered up the many others who have big bucks. It is a viscous circle of hidden abuse.

Where were the parents? Unfortunately, parents often trust the wrong people. The person that shows great interest in "helping" the family and their child, i.e. a close family menber or neighbor, a manager etc are often abusers. The lure the parents in to get closer contact to the child....i.e. oh, go to dinner, the movie, I'll babysit for free!
When the abuse starts the child often doesn't understand it, and then feels ashamed. Threats of harm, or for a child actor umeployment, will silence the child since the child has become the breadwinner.
Sadly this will continue to go on.
Child starts in the past were taken advantage of, their money was stolen by their managers, lawyers, or sometimes their family. As they age & become less desirable, the child is cast aside like yersterday's newspaper. Few child stars survive into talented adults with careers.
Be careful whose minding the story, or your child.

I have to go with Stephen on this one. If this abuse really did happen and Feldman actually is concerned about the issue, he needs to come forth start naming names and pressing charges. If it's possible that other child actors are going through what he allegedly went through, it needs to be stopped. His silence has got me questioning the validity of his accusation. Add to that the fact that no one else in Hollywood has said anything and I can't help but think that IF it happened to The Corys, it was probably an isolated case and not random Hollywood pedophilia. Either way, if it did happen, the molestors need to be punished.
