Sarah Michelle Gellar's going back to 'AMC'

Sarah Michelle Gellar is getting back to her soapy roots.

The star of the CW's  "The Ringer" will have a cameo on "All My Children" before the ABC show's last televised episode on September 23. The 34-year-old actress starred on the show as Kendall from 1993-1995, but she says she's not going to reprise that role.

"I called them and said you know I don’t want to come back as Kendall because that is Alicia [Minshew]'s role and I would never step on that," Gellar told CNN.

"She has done amazing things but I want to mark the time that I spent there," Gellar went on. "I made amazing friends. It was a great training ground and I said, you know, can I do something."

But while she knows what role she won't be playing, Gellar's still in the dark as to how she'll fit in the storyline. "We were able to block out a day out of my schedule from 'Ringer' but I have no idea what I’m doing [on the show]," she said.

Meanwhile, Josh Duhamel's return to "All My Children" - reprising his role as con artist Leo Du Pres - began airing on August 4.
