Linda Evangelista wants $46k a month in child supportSupermodel Linda Evangelista is reportedly requesting a whopping $46,000 a month from businessman François-Henri Pinault, the father of her 4-year-old son Augustin James. "That would probably be the largest support order in the history of the Family Court," Support Magistrate Matthew Troy tells the New York Post. Troy will be deciding on an appropriate number when Evangelista and Pinault return to Manhattan Family Court next month. Pinault, who allegedly has yet to pay a penny toward Augustin, has another preschooler to support as well. Valentina, 3, is his daughter with wife Salma Hayek.
The 49-year-old CEO of a luxury goods empire began dating Hayek in 2006 and married the actress in 2009. He also has two other children from a previous marriage, according to People. Evangelista, who is worth more than $8 million dollars, says she needs the hefty payments for 24-hour nanny service, vacations, and armed drivers, among other things. The child support request shouldn't be surprising; after all, the '90s supermodel once famously quipped, "We don't wake up for less than $10,000 a day."

I am not understanding all the anger and name calling toward Evangalista. She is not asking for this money for herself. She is asking for the benefit of her kid...a kid which deserves in every way to have the same lifestyle of the kid that he had with Selma. Valentina presumably has full access to her fathers wealth, all $18 billion dollars. Evangelista's kid deserves the same. Yes, in my world, $46K a month is ridiculous, but in the world of Valentina and Augustin, it probably takes every penny of that to save for their private future schools and colleges. If I were Evangelista, I would be fighting hard to make sure that my child was treated financially the same as Selma's child, and not one penny less.
It's a asinine situations like this that force the people like the ex-pro football player (Ray Caruth) to stuff his "baby's momma" in the trunk! The ex-model is already a millionaire herself, why does she need his money. If she needs a nanny, he should get custody of his child. I get it ladies, the family law favors the "damsel in distress", so why not rape the system for all of its benefits. The judge should laugh her a$$ out of the court house – $3000 max should come from dad. If she wants all of her personal amenities then she can front the rest. Our legal system is in dire need of an overhaul.

It is our society that puts these people on pedestals. The child support amount just shows us how ridiculous the whole "celebrity" game is.

Many states figure out child support based on the parents' salaries. If it was done that way in this case, she'd get a lot more than $46K per month.
The fact is, she's a celebrity, and even though she's well paid, there are caveats to that profession. If she's got a photo shoot scheduled, there are hundreds of other people being paid to do a job that centers around her being there. If the babysitter calls in sick, she can't just call and say "sorry, I can't make it in today." Not to mention the security risk of being the child of a wealthy public figure. Living in a lower cost building with minimal security, attending public school, etc., would make him an easy target for kidnappers.
Plus, even though he's only 4, he's already become accustomed to a certain lifestyle. Why should he be punished just because his parents split up? The father was equally responsible for creating this life, he should be equally responsible for his care. By the way, the amount she's requesting is about .00005 percent of his net worth. That's like someone who makes $100K a year only paying $5 a year in child support. Far less than a drop in the bucket.
The average cost in the United States to raise a child to 18 years old is approx. $250K. This woman is asking for more than double that per year. OK, so daddy's rich. Grant her the $46K per month but only for two years. That's over $1M. After that, she can use some of her own millions to raise the child. After all, she does have some responsibility in the matter.
The courts take both parents salary and combines it, from that they figure what child support will be. Some states have set limits like only 40% or 30% of the combined income will be child support. Most states favor the mother so the mother gets the child and the father has to pay the child support and gets every other weekend to see his child. Also most states do not force the mother to show what the money is used for. The mother can use the money as she sees fit and the father can only hope the money is used for his child. The family court system sucks....

What CNN failed to point out is François-Henri Pinault is worth more than $14 billion (that's $14,000,000,000) – $46K a month for him is like dropping $5 at McDonald's for the rest of us.

Boo-hoo. François-Henri's net worth is estimated at around 18 BILLION. I am sure that a little over 7 MILLION (the amount he will pay out until the kid is 18) is a mere drop in the bucket for him. You have to realize these aren't ordinary people with ordinary lifestyles, the payments are relative to what they have not what we have. 7 MILLION for him is one less home or plane he can buy- that's all.

I don't remember saying anywhere in my posts that I was taking anyone's side. They are both adults and made decisions that have consequences in the real world. She will ask a judge for whatever amount she chooses and the judge will decide if her cause of action is justified. The child's father will learn from his mistakes or not. Either way, the outcome has no bearing on my life. It was an interesting story, and what's more interesting is the reactions that people are having to the story.
Since you seem so concerned about my coffee intake, I assure you that I do not drink coffee. I do however provide support and assistance to my disabled mother, my sister (who is a single mother receiving no child support) and my nephew. I also give generously to charities that mean something to me, volunteer in various organizations and I stay involved with my community. Please, do not try to put my house in order because it has already been done.

Look, I am all for the rich paying more to help the poor, either through charity or taxes. If expenses are proportional to income and wealth, then actually 46K per month is probably a much lower % than a couple with an consolidated income of $70K where the child support order might be, what, $1500 per month?

The 200 per month you think of as child support would be two years income to her, and you would be seens as Wal-Mart shopping wastrels, throwing money away on a Lattes and lunches that could feed a child for a week.
