Nadya Suleman: Babies disgust meIn an interview with In Touch magazine, Nadya Suleman reportedly makes some strong remarks about children- including her own. Suleman, who was labeled with the moniker "Octomom" after she gave birth to octuplets in 2009, told the publication, "I hate babies, they disgust me." She went on, "My older six are animals, getting more and more out of control, because I have no time to properly discipline them."
The single mom told the magazine that the only way she can cope is to lock herself in the bathroom and cry. "Sometimes I sit there for hours and even eat my lunch sitting on the toilet floor. Anything to get peace and quiet," she said. Suleman admits that her bank account is "overdrawn by $300 and I have no money to pay for the children's school, food or the mortgage." She's previously hosted a yard sale at her La Habra, California home to deal with financial hardship, and has reportedly signed on to be on the HDNet reality TV show Celebridate. "Some days I have thought about killing myself. I cannot cope," Suleman tells In Touch. She says of her kids, "Obviously, I love them - but I absolutely wish I had not had them." Disgusting comments... but we need to be a bit careful about reacting only based on what she says and opens up to share. At this point she is opnly sharing the truth about how she feels. Do you not think it will be pretty unlikely she will do so in the future if she gets a visit from CPS? When people are openly communicating their pain I think it can be dangerous to treat them in a way that will make them hide it in the future. There needs to be action taken... but it needs to be cautius. NOthing here will get her kids taken away. It will only go to make her less willing to talk in the future.

I'd like to know where the children are during the several hours of crying spells in the bathroom. Is someone watching them? I cant even take a shower or urinate without a million knocks on the bathroom door and I have 11 less than she does. Oh, and I wouldnt change it for the world if it meant my babies didnt exist. No way could I handle 14 but this story sure makes me wish I had as much room in my home & budget as I do my heart for these children. I hope they have someone there to show them love.

For someone who couldn't have children makes me very sad to hear her say that. Children are a gift from God. She thought she could expose the children for money like a zoo or circus and look where it got her. Now she's got kids out of control and probably in a few years we'll hear that her older children will be in the CPS system having done some type of petty crimes. Very sad.

Failure as a mother,I raised six ,and yes it was a rough ride ,but being a man and doing what I had to to help them in life ,they are all adults,and they love and respect there mom and me a lot ,we are not perfect and no one is .its sad when you here parents talk like that ,her kids should be taken away ,and given to someone who will love them.

Chastising her at this point is fairly useless. Looking at the bright side, she can serve as a cautionary tale for anyone else looking to make themselves into a grotesque social experiment. Her original plan was probably to be making enough money from this circus to afford the kind of support she'd need to manage her 'family'. Unfortunately she's discovered too late the attention span of the media, and its consumers, is brief.

Immediately this story made me feel sad for the children. I cannot imagine having fourteen children and being able to give them each the care and love they need, even with two parents. Unfortunately this woman's poor choices have placed her in this extremely difficult situation. She and her doctor are both to blame. I find her behavior to be very selfish and irresponsible. I feel she was so desperate for public attention that she simply gave no concern or thought as to what day to day life would truly be like. I agree with several of the posts I had read today. These children are in danger.

Nadia was young,and I blame her obstetrician for this irresponsible decision. She had mutiple embryos implanted before,resulting in a single birth.There must be some community with enough compassion for this young woman,to accept her family. Not in expensive California. Where is Habitat,when she needs a larger than life helping hand.You folks cannot read her mind. She needs a group of caring people to work out a schedule of 4 hour shifts,maybe 2 at a time.She needs help,not criticism.She needs someone with her all the time,to help supervise the older ones,and people to be there to help her with the bathing ,potty training,etc. She is at the end od her emotional rope. I raised twins,and it was a job. I am turning 61,with a 16 year old.I hope every small community,with inexpensive older victorians,etc,will welcome her, and send a group of churchmen to renovate,getting supply companies to donate.There are answers for this young woman.She isn't some demon,she needs help. Every church out there,pray for her. I am very hard pressed to find a mom that doesn't love her children. But everyone has their own issues to deal with and how they deal with it is what we should be looking at. Should she have had a million kids: no. But the fact remains that she does and now she needs to learn effective ways in which to handle the situation. As a Child Protection worker, it is concerning that she locks herself in for hours-not becuase she necessarily locked herself in but that I would hope she has arranged for some type of supervision for the kids. And there is a difference between hating the situation you have found yourself in and having a negative perception of your children. When you have a negative perception of your children is what leads to children dying. She needs to access community services and create an appropriate support system so that it is not the children who are really hurt in the end. My grandmother happily had 15 children and didn't work since she had to take care of them. But they made it work and never used an ounce of public assistance.
Nadya Suleman disgusted me from the very first day she came into the limelight. When she was getting the attention she craved, she was very abusive to her old parents who helped raise the older children. She thought she would be rich and famous and the state was obliged to help raise these numerous children she brought into the world. It is SHE who is DISGUSTING. Those innocent children, irresponsibly brought into the world didnt have a choice! If those kids are not taken away it will be another Andrea Yates, Susan Smith or Casey Anthony all over again.
If these statements are true someone needs to intervene before she kills herself or the children. Stable people do not talk this way. If she is locking herself in the bathroom for hours on end no wonder they are out of control. 14 kids left unattended would of course be out of control.

Why not invite Casey Anthony over to babysit? I bet by the time Octomom got home she'd have at least a couple less "problems" to worry about.....
She wants a reality show? How about she gets one–about placing each one of her babies with a stable, loving family. People seem to have no problem seeing how Kourteney Kardashian and that gross boyfriend of hers plan on going about having a second child. They don't seem to have a problem watching people go through drug rehab, so why not this? Sign her up and lets get started. She can place an octuplet a month. Everyone wins.
The youngest ones are still young enough to be adopted out. She needs to do this as soon as possible for their mental health and for hers. Then she will be able to spend more time parenting the older children. She wasn't able to bankroll breeding, the media didn't bite. Experiment over. Time to put the babies in loving homes, and fast.
Casey Anthony is free and could use a job. Maybe she could help babysit. Pesky kids.
I am the mother of a child with a severe congenital heart defect. My daughter has been in an out of hospitals for her entire life, due to surgeries, or tests or other complications. It is very painful for me as a mother to watch my daughter go through all of this. Here is a mother with 14 perfectly HEALTHY children, who are obviously not loved by anyone. I truly think that CPS needs to remove them from her care. She is obviously incapable mentally, emotionally or financially to do it herself.
One word: adoption, you stupid narcissis.
If you have a sister/brother who is willing to adopt then it would be a very good idea.
As a social worker, LCSW, I am appalled that CPS is not involed – that I am aware of – in the lives of these children.
Unfortunately, the taxpayers are already paing for all those children...Octomom is making quite a haul from the state. She is getting far more than most of us are making at our jobs per month. She made her bed. Now she needs to quit her whining and take care of her children. There are jobs she can do from home so she needs to do that and quite looking for everyone else to give her handouts. She is a pathetic loser.

She wanted this because of all the attention it would give her. She had the babies, and she got the attention. I have absolutely no sympathy for this horrible woman and all the sympathy in the world for her children. Kids are a lifelong commitment, not just the latest fashion trend or a new way to get attention from people. If she is disgusted by kids now, wait until they all grow up and have kids of their own that they are not able to take care of and they end up passing them off to grandma so they can continue to party and seek attention.
Poor woman, she needs help, a lot of help. I can understand her. I wish I lived close by and could come and stay with the kids and give her some free time. She got into it and now she needs help. I hear the other "mother of the year" candidate, Casey Anthony is looking to adopt. Go back and read Ms. Suleman's quotes from when she gave birth to the octuplets – she was delusional and way out of touch with reality then. The doc had his license revoked in CA just this month. CNN reported she still has 29 more frozen embryos! This woman needs serious psych help before she hurts those poor kids. The older ones are old enough to read these quotes all over the internet – how awful for them for their mother to publicly say such things about them.

The only time she felt important was when she was pregnant. And she had no business having that many. And the doctor that gave her the fertility treatments knowing she had no job and was not stable should lose his license. I wonder if the sperm was his? Evidently the idea was to get pregnant and have them. But the idea of financial problems never seemed to occur to her. She probably thought the notoriety would bring financial gain. Evidently it did not. Or at least not enough to handle 14 children. So she had them for all the wrong reasons and now cannot stand them I bet the feeling is mutual. Disgusting!!
There is nothing that can be said about this sick woman than has already been said. And those kids are going to have a terrible life. Between her bouts of dislike and her despondency it will be hell. These children should be taken from her so they can possibly have a stable and decent life. She needs to be hospitalized.

It's no longer about this narcissistic woman getting what she deserves, it's about saving society from the repurcussions of children who are neglected, simply because she can't do it alone. All of her children (their own mother calls them animals? wow) are at risk of angry, possibly harmful behaviors that they will take into adulthood. Those who can should save their own children and society at large by rescuing these children. Nadya, do what you should've done, give these children up for adoption, even if it is just the younger children, before you ruin all of your childrens' lives.

ANY (unemployed) single mother that already has 6 kids, and is seeking to impregnate themselves with 8 embryos- should be sent for counceling BEFORE the procedure. Law requires a woman to see a councelor before she can have an abortion, but not before she conceives a litter? This Dr apparently had misguided visions of grandeur, and tried to use Ms Suleman as his catalyst to fame. Although it thankfully backfired on him, and he lost his license. But isn't that further proof that civil litigation is warranted on her behalf? I wonder what she is waiting for? She certainly got herself into this, but she didn't do it alone. The kids are the true ones that are suffering..hate to see them seperated, but don't see how it can be helped..

SHE is is disgusted with babies? UGH, I was horribly disgusted by the picture of her on the cover of PEOPLE mag with all 8 of her brood, she reminded me of a Labrador Retriever with a litter. CPS should get involved, get "momma" the mental health treatment she needs and appoint social workers to check on those kids often...where the heck are those children when she is locked in the bathroom in her bout of self pity?

I personally feel that this woman was trying to play off of the reality show "Jon & Kate plus 8" which is now known as "Kate plus 8". She saw how they were in the limelight and making a living from this and I think that was her motiovation in having more children. Now that her 15 minutes of fame is over she is left with the consequences of what she has done and is having a hard time living with it. The woman should be sterilized so she can't have more children and the ones she has should be put into homes where they would be loved and appreciated. She certainly doesn't deserve them.

I am the mother of five children. They are pretty much grown now; three are stil at home and are 15, 18 and 19. They drive me nuts! The older they get the worse it is, with thier bickering and fighting over the TV, Computer, Car Keys, etc. I do not know of ONE mother, not ONE who, if she's honest with herself, has ever thought about walking away, killing her kids or herself! That's normal. What is not normal is getting on the radio or Tv telling this to reporters and a world that already hates you. I think Nayda is asking for help. I think she is seriously asking for an agency to step in and take her kids away, but she can't admit that, so she makes these statements to get sympathy, KNOWING it will fuel the fire of hatred toward her. But she doesn't care because she needs help, seriously. She needs help.
Funny. All of you on here hating and making bad jokes about this poor, sick woman. I don't see anyone of you in line offering to adopt these children. Even those of you saying "let CPS take them" and then what? Chances are people will adopt the small babies, but the older 6? It's a sad situation all around. I am not sure how much I buy her statements. How much of this is to get people to watch her show? She always said she wanted a reality TV show and statements like these that rile people up (myself included) will get someone to give her a show. Where is that bottom feeder network Fox at anyway? Stories like this are just another way to get some publicity hoping money will follow, so I have little sympathy for this woman.
Seriously. We know she's not right. Poor children. Whether she's serious or not, would you want your children to even consider that you feel this way about them? Crazy woman. Poor, poor babies. Poor lady! Maybe she should take some advice from Casey Anthony on how to deal with the problem of unwanted kids.
Who wants to be that within six months she'll come out saying she has mental health issues, something like Post Partum Depression or bipolar, and use that as a reason for having made the comments that she wishes she did not have them and that she hates babies and for reasoning about locking herself in the bathroom. The octuplets are what, a year and a half old now, they are not babies. They are toddlers. Who wants to be she'll put a book out, something like "It Sucked and then I Cried" or "Belly Laughs", something along those lines.....it would give more publicity!
Locking herself in the bathroom is her coping skill. Get counseling instead lady. She made some really poor choices in life (like getting implanted with the six embryos when she already had six kids) and she continues to do so. She should get herself help – no, not financial assistance but a support network to help with the kids, suck it up and carry on with life. Really, she only has 16 1/2 years until the youngest kids are grown up. The best thing for the kids right now might be to put them into care but in the long run, keeping the family together and providing proper supports should be the goal. If not, I'm sure there are people willing to adopt all the kids at once, you'd have an instant sports team, how fun that would be! (I'm kidding about the sports team but big families are great). The kids deserve more attention than she seems to give them, it good she loves them an all but it's time she starts raising them.
Your right, CPS is NOT the answer, but what is the answer? What is right for one person may not work for another. I do not think a Reality show is the answer. That just feeds into the spotlight for attention. What the woman needs is to get a job, a real job, she can work from home on her computer, she could write a book and tell her story, (the real story if she can be trusted to tell the truth) or she could be just like the rest of us who have families and work and find the money to pay for part time help for these kids.
Moms on Welfare can get cheap to free child care, Head Start, Mommy and Me programs and I know that there is SOMETHING that she can do.
She needs organization and routine, with that she WILL be able to manage because she HAS TO.
I just think that she needs to take responsibility and quit whining about not having money or time. I know she received a lot of money when those babies were born. Not enough to make her rich, but if she had invested some of it or set it up in savings or what ever, she would be ok.
How many of us have had a house given to us? How many of us have trouble making it from pay check to pay check without even considering the every day emergencies that pop up?
She may want the kids dressed in the best, but she needs to get real and hit The Good Will, K-Mart and Wal-Mart and Target!
Also all of the pictures I have seen of her lately have been single shots. I understand ME time, but what about some One on One time with a couple of the kids while she runs errands and such?
No I am sorry I do not support her. Even her actions tell a sad story. I applaud all of those people who are giving a helping hand, cleaning house, doing laundry and bringing meals and all that they are doing because THEY are the ones that are thinking of the children. This disgusts me and breaks my heart. Here me and my husband are, two individuals deeply in love and desperately trying for our first child for 2.5 years with no luck. We have good jobs, a loving home, and a desire to start our own family but it hasn't happened yet. Infertility is such a rollercoaster of emotions. Fertility testing and treatment is expensive and our insurance does not cover a penny. Then here is a lady with no job or income, no spouse or partner, with many children already and with help from her doctor was able to have IVF and conceive 8 more healthy, beautiful children. She probably didn't pay a dime for any of it. We are doing some less expensive treatments right now, but we were told IVF could cost $16,000 to $20,000. We don't have that kind of money, but have so much love to give and no children of our own to share it with. She was given multiple blessings in those children and now she doesn't even want them anymore! So unfair 🙁

I just recently lost my baby boy to SIDS and I would give anything to have my child with me!!! If this article is true, Nadya is more than likely is severely depressed. I can see taking care of maybe 3 children as a single mom....but not 14. Why some of her children weren't taken away before is beyond me.

I really think that she thought that she could get rich and it backfired on her and now she is stuck with it. The reality is that they (the "Govt") can't just jump in to take the kids away. Neither will telling her to kill herself solve the problem, since the children will know they caused their mother to kill herself. That's a formula for future problems X 14. Why don't they set up Guardian Ad Litems to represent the welfare of the children? And a conservator for the mom? The person can be tasked to ensure the money goes where it was designated to go. It will certainly be cheaper than fighting for custody of the children, legal issues with the mom, et al. And it may work....
BTW– With everyone pointing out (rightly) that everthing we read on the net isn't necessarily true, maybe this whole story isn't true? Could it be a massive experiment in social networking??? Probably just as "real) as 90% of the stories we read.
My first question when reading this article is who was taking care of 14 children while she is eating lunch in the bathroom? The entire time my children were young, I never went into the bathroom without having a conversation from under the bathroom door. This should raise immediate concern among childrens' advocates and protective services.

I work for the federal government and I know how frustrating it is to get something done in a system that seems to serve only to sustain itself and not to do a good job or help someone.
The simple fact is that these children did not choose this dumb-ass as their mother. What ever this mother has done is not the fault of the children. Where is CPS? Take these children away from this woman, give them a fighting chance at becoming a productive member of society.

I don't blame anyone for having moments of regret or frustration in regards to their own children. Parenting is a difficult job with any number of children, let alone fourteen of them. But let's keep a few things in perspective. First of all, these feelings she is having are a very personal situation that must be dealt with privately, and it is NOT AT ALL appropriate for her to be telling a gossip magazine, of all things, that she is disgusted by her children and she is considering suicide. You may love your children, but good luck explaining this comment to them when they inevitably find out about it. Secondly, she brought this upon herself. Look at the facts – she had six children, no husband, no degree, and no real career path, but still decided to deliberately impregnate herself with eight more kids. Now the fame has worn off, the bills are piling up, and whatever reality TV gig she lands might pay for a few months of diapers, groceries, and rent – IF she's lucky. But what then? Does she really believe that reality television, book deals, and photo pictorials will pay her outstanding bills, let alone the kids' education? She may have screwed up her own life with her decisions, but the children deserve better than this.

On comments about CPS. CPS has more power than judges, lawyers or anyone else in the legal system. On one call without investigating they can come in and take your kids away if they choose to. Most of the time this happens to ones that don't deserve this and the ones that do usually kill their kids. Seen and read this happened many times.
Fourteen kids & no help. She's overwhelmed. Of course she's confused and distressed. She should have stopped when she had only two kids. There's no excuse for this sort of nonsense in this day-and-age. If she had conceived them under conditions of personal intimacy, instead of wasting taxpayer-monies on non-Traditional conception, and had this many kids, she would not be in as big a fix. The older ones would have already been taught how to help, and not be 'animals', while the babies would have come in their ones and twos. The oldest of the kids would probably already be on their own. Instead, she's faced with an unwieldy task of her own creation. My suggestion is that she find good, adoptive homes for as many of the children as she can.

If she said what they claim she said, I would see it as a call for HELP. She's only human. She sounds overwhelmed and depressed and look at the support she is likely getting – and don't tell me other FANTASTIC mothers do not have their moments. The only difference here is that her comments were said out loud. If she really doesn't love her children, she should not have them, but a person can love their kids and STILL get overwhelmed. Instead of bashing her, people should be thinking about what they could do to help – even if all it is is to offer advice on stress relief. How sad that a woman who knowingly took hormones to ensure that she had MULTIPLE children with her last pregnancy now hates her children! Children do not ask to be born – and once they are....well, it's the parent(s) responsibility to be sure that they are loved and cared for. She has 16 kids? I feel sorry for her. She is totally overloaded for a time, and is simply having a hard time coping. Anyone with such a load would be! It sounds like she needs most a few minutes to herself a day so she can breathe and clear the fog out of her brain and refresh herself so she can handle the fray she's got on hand. Feeling "frazzled" at times is normal for most new mothers (whether they've 1 or 20 children, doesn't matter!), especially if they have to handle everything on their own. Given a little compassion and understanding, she'll be able to pull through and once again see her children as the blessings they are and that she hoped they would be, and be the happy mommy again!

As a woman in a stable relationship (12 years married) who is undergoing IVF (which is looking more and more like it won't work) I find this woman and her doctors appalling. Our IVF doctor would implant no more than 3 embryos in me; that her doctor chose to implant as many as he did, when she was young and in good health and had no medical need for it is what disgusts me. Not only should her doctor lose his license but every single one of her children should go to loving families who would give anything to have a child. They didn't ask to be born and it takes a hell of a lot more to be a mother than physically giving birth.

The doctor who implanted the embryo's in her should not only be banned from practicing medicine (as I believe he has been, at least in Ca–but in every state) and he should be deported–I don't care if he was from this country or not. I ABSOLUTELY agree that CPS should be called in, but the tragedy here is that kids are so rarely adopted and most are just shifted around from home to home where they may be loved, or they may not be loved. Ohhhh,this site has more self-righteous scolds per square centimeter than any other place on earth. During hte Depression, my mother-in-law's family had ten children and the father died at age 40 leaving the heroic mother ot raise them all. They all love each other very much. Honestly, what did this woman expect? Having a lot of kids is difficult at best with a partner and support, but to do on your own? She did this to herself and I could honestly care less about her. But the kids, they didn't ask for this and they have to suffer for it. In any case, I don't judge her comments but I do judge that she has 14 children on her own, what was she thinking. I am simply amazed by all of the hatred being posted. I personally agree that she should not have had these children and that her reasoning was wrong to have more, women have children everyday, she is not special. There are even women who have multiple birth like she had and yet there are no camera crews following them around. Comparing this woman to the Duggars or Goslins is wrong though... look at the good the media did for these families! The Goslins disintergrated and the Duggars have no privacy, though in their defense, they were able to make ends meet on their own before TLC came on the scene.
Rather than lashing out at the mother, we need to all take care of these kids. It is not the kids fault that they were born to a media hungry idiot. These children are innocent. Even though I have a very small income that I have to stretch to make fit three children, I would still be more than willing to step in and adopt some of these children. Im not one to really judge, to each their own and all. However, she made the choice to have so many children, and while as parents we all have our days when we question ourselves, we still do what needs to be done. She very seriously should consider placing some of her kids up for adoption. They deserve a home where they will be loved and taken care of.

In this situation it's easy to say the little guys especially should be taken away and put up for adoption BUT, I think it would be a shame and disgrace to separate the octuplets. It would be very difficult to place all 8 with one family. I am an adoptee, and I'm telling you it just wouldn't be right to do this. Since this is a fete accompli, the State should provide a fulltime nanny or nannies to assist Nadya til the kids get school age. This would be simpler and more cost effective than foster care, and better for the kids to stay with their siblings. What about assigning a conservator to monitor her finances? They have agencies that do it for disabled people. The court should order that as part of her being able to keep the kids. Whatever money she gets, would be processed by them, bills paid and remainder released to her for her use. WHERE ARE ALL THE PROLIFERS OUT THERE? She could have had a selection process to abort some of the children but she didn't, what about the dr.'s malpractice insurance, providing her a settlement because he did implant too many embryos. Drs have a moral obligation to refuse to do things to people that will harm them even if they want it.

People with mental illness are given too much of a free hand. There are certain recognizable signs of illness that should allow authorities to step in and prevent the kinds of abuses that go on. When an unmarried woman who already has 6 children is attempting to become pregnant with multiple fetuses, that should be one of those certain signs.
Bob...are you aware that 1 in 4 Americans have a mental illness at some point in their lives? That's means you and your loved ones have a 1 in 4 chance of having a mental illness. Do you seriously want the police stepping into *your* business and making decisions for you simply simply because you have a mental illness? Do you seriously think that you and yours would have "too much of a free hand"? Believe it or not, you already know people with mental illness...your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers...even your family. And, in most cases, you probably aren't even aware of it because their medication/therapy are helping them control their symptoms. But they still have the mental illness.
To proclaim that having a mental illness alone is grounds for the police to step in and make decisions about what 25% of the entire American population can and cannot do is...well, it's illogical and financially impossible. And it says far more about *you* than it does about people with mental illness.

Even now, the babies lives would be better in the hands of a loving couple who can give them all the attention and love they need. What is wrong with people!?
I am not a fan of kids so I did not have any. This woman is an idiot – I guess she thought being pregnant was cool and got her lots of attention. Oops, well unfortunately all of those kids are a byproduct of that. CPS needs to take those kids and she needs a hysterectomy. It's easy to lambast this woman for continuing to pop out babies like a Pez dispenser. It was my first reaction too. And, while I do think she made terrible decisions and created this whole mess, I have one thing to say in her defense. She has clearly been very mentally disturbed for a good long while. Someone should have taken the reigns away from this woman ages ago. I'm not saying that she has no personal responsibility here, just that she may not be as able to control her impulses as a healthy person. People around her have been enabling her loon ball behavior for years. I'm glad her doctor lost his license. He never should have inseminated a woman so mentally ill, and certainly not in the manner that he chose. I just can't help but wonder how many people around her, who were not completely insane, listened to her plans to have more children and said, "That's nice dear." What were the nurses and assistants in that doctor's office thinking throughout this process? Her parents were obviously not behind her, but did she have no one in her life to say, "Time for a trip to the Commitment Center, Sweetie." It just seems odd and tragic that this runaway train wreck was allowed to continue on its course for so long with nobody to put on the brakes.

Oh no! I don't think we owe this woman anything! It was her moronic idea to have all these kids with no means of support. SHe already had kids and this was so clearly a greedy scheme to get money from the event it's disgusting. Having been around the world several times I can tell you that America is a great and wonderful country. But, two places where we fall down are a lack of empathy for others, and a quick desire for revenge. What this woman needs is help and compassion. When the handouts and the big check for exclusive rights to her story didn't come in, she realized she was on her own, as are many of the rest of us. These children need rescuing and she needs some "alone" time and treatment in a mental health facility. She probably wasn't a very good mom before she had the 8 babies. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. I'd hate to know my mother ever said–even at her worst moment–that her children disgust her. It won't be long before her kids are saying, "Our mom disgusts us." I know child services can't step in until something happens. That's why when they do step in, it's often after a child has been maimed or killed. Then I'd say, it's a little late.

The highlight of the situation is that the doctor lost the license to practice after imprenating her with all of the eggs. To bad they did not do it before, certainly the evidence was there since he had already given her 6 kids prior and they were not being taken care of either. Child services cannot intervene just because a parent expresses their feelings. Perhaps it's better that she is expressing them now. It keeps her somewhat accountable. No one is going to let these kids starve or live on the street. Some people eat, some drink, use drugs etc; to lessen pain, she happens to have 14 children and if she is feeling like this, be prepared for more kids. You can be pretty sure that there are folks that are involved and have been since the beginning but you can't just take kids out of the home because a mom is crying in the bathroom out of frustration. I only had 2 kids, now grown, and I felt overwhelmed at times. Yes, I cried. Yes, I wondered how I was going to make it sometimes but I did and had plenty of support. I didn't have people complaining about my feelings. There are ppl involved. She will get help. We will see her exploiting the kids to make money.

I have no sympathy for her until she does the right thing by putting these kids up for adoption. In the absence of that, she can sit and suffer as far as I'm concerned. As for those kids, they are basically lower life forms until she chooses to give them up so they can be nurtured and actually become productive members of society.

as sad and as difficult as it might be, i really do think the best solution would be to place the kiddos in adoptive homes. i know it means them being separated but right now, the main thing is just their survival. play dates can be arranged and they can still see each other but i really think t his would be for the best.

I'm thinking that's her new plan of action. She's not making bank now that her original 15 minutes are up, so now she's going to say that the Doc mislead her and now she's suffering mental anguish because of his negligence. What better way to start the ball rolling than to publicly declare she can't stand her own children and has to lock herself away from them. Her problem might lie in the fact that when she first came onto the scene pregnant with the 8, she defended the Doc and stated that she pushed for all 8 embryos to be implanted as a way to ensure that some would be viable. Now for the other part of her "scheme" in my opinion, she's apparently being looked at to participate in some kind of twisted dating show, and has scheduled TV interviews upcoming with Dr. Drew. Whether these statements are even real or if they are just yet another sick and twisted ploy for some extra publicity for her newer ventures is yet to be seen.

Personally, I have no pity for her. She put herself in this mess knowingly, and quite frankly I don;t care how many righteous people, Jesus-freaks included, say that "we" should be more supportive to her and her situation. I have 2 natural children and a step child, and yeah, I have my monetary problems; yes, I receive Government WIC and my youngest child is on medicaid. But I also have a job, and the father has a job, and we put our children first. Aside from the aforementioned Government assistance we do not go around looking for handouts, and we also take precautions against having more children, because we know that (1) we cannot afford another and (2) it would be far too stressful. Suleman purposely went to a doctor and knowingly had IVF treatments, and once the amount of viable children was confirmed, opted to keep all of them. She was neither married nor had a steady partner, did not have a steady job, and already had 6 children she was unable to handle.
So why am I supposed to pity her? Why should I help her? And for anyone who thinks it is that easy to get CPS involved, well, you need to come back down to reality. If I can't get my step-sons birth mother arrested or lose her visitation for her drug use, past and present, her admittance that she regrets keeping the boy, and the emotional abuse she heaps upon him, then the likelihood of Suleman's children being removed for a few words in a possibly falsified article is slim to none. I, at least, have physical evidence of my twit's idiocies...what do you have on Suleman?
The best thing is for the children to be with their mother. Before you judge, parenting is hard with one or multiple children. I really hope she gets the help she needs, for the children and learns to be strong despite her decisions. Commenters don't help by fingerwagging here. How do you live with yourself with so much negativity?
Frankly, my negativity stems from the fact that she has already admitted the children are uncontrollable, and from personal experience with my step-son I know how hard it is to reign that sort of thing in. It takes a lot of patience, work, and one-on-one, none of which Suleman can or seems to be willing to give.

This story is tragic! My husband and I would like to adopt a baby within the US and will have to pay excessive fees, have numerous meetings with social workers, attend classes, and have someone audit our income statements and house. Why cannot all parents go through that before they can have a child? If not, don't allow them tax deductions for their kids. If they are found not suitable to have a kid, give them money every year not to produce a baby. It'll be cheaper for everyone in the long run.
Why not consider adopting an older child out of foster care? There are literally millions of them waiting for homes. If all you want is a healthy, white infant, you're not quite as loving and generous as you think you are. Kids in foster care have been virtually abandoned and ignored by everyone, while people yammer on and on about the "lack" of kids available for adoption and about how "desperate" they are to be parents. If you're so desperate to be a parent, you could start the process tomorrow - with a child in foster care. They're waiting.

It was very wrong of her to have said that she hates her children and that they are animals. She clearly needs help and those words that she spoke of her children are going to be out there for them to see at some point. Words hurt and once you have put the words out there it is too late. I cried after the kids were in bed, alone in my room. I didn't have time to lock myself away, nor did I have the help she has with nurses and nanny's. If your children are out of control no wonder. I had one child with my first spouse. When my daughter was in 3rd grade I remarried. My wedding gift from my new husbend was a vasectomy. I knew that I could support myself and one child and no more. He was child supporting 2 sons. We discussed all this and made a decision good for everyone. An intellegent decision. My daughter as an adult in her 20's became very ill and we are now raising 2 handicapped grandchildren asn we are ill and senior citizens. We have services that we need and work our tails off for them. I dont get plastic surgury-I even cut my own hair to give more to them. AND I AM DISABLED AND MY SPOUSE HAS ALZHEIMERS AND PARKINSONS. WE DONT CRY OE WHINE AND WE DONT LOOK BACK -ONLY FORWARD TO THEIR FUTURE. tHE BEST WE CAN GIVE THEM.EVEN IF IT MEANS WE GO WITHOUT. tHIS IS WHAT IT MEANS TO PARENT.

I don't think taking the kids away from her is what she needs. She needs mental help and if we took every child away from their parent(s) who have mental health issues, the system would be overloaded with children without parents. What she needs is a mental health evaluation, some help with the daily chores of taking care of this many children and I think the doctor that did this to her should have to pay for her help and health concerns. I don't necessarily feel sorry for her because she got herself into this situation thinking she would be famous and didn't take into consideration what kind of toll this would be on her or the children. But in the long run it would be better if she had daily help provided to her and keep these kids with their mother, and get her some mental health help.

Both my children (ages 6 and 8) are very high functioning on the autism spectrum and they have superior IQ's (well over 130) as well as being academically superior to their peers. I listened to her on Howard Stern the other day, and based on that quite candid interview, I find this article to be questionable. I have a feeling a lot has been taken out of context. While she DOES obviously have serious mental issues, so do a lot of other people who are raising children. Based on the Stern interview, she seems to take her role in her children's upbringing very seriously. She may not always make the best decisions, but it does appear that she loves them and thinks about how she's raising them. Although she's got a lot of press for being a bad mom, but believe me, have some amount of nuttiness does not warrant CPS intervention when there are babies dying from drugs, and neglect, and physical abuse. There are babies being starved and molested. I mean, I know she's a nutcase, but put it in perspective.

There's a tangential issue to the issue you raise, namely, regulation of the number of embryos implanted. We tried for 10 years to conceive. We finally had twins on our third round of in-vitro with our second egg donor. Many countries have laws regulating the number of implantable embryos, but had the US had such, we might not have had any children. On our last round, we had 6 more or less viable embryos that had to be frozen. 4 survived the thaw and were implanted. One never took. 6 weeks later, we lost the triplet. Nearly half-way into the pregnancy, we were told one twin probably wouldn't make it. He did but was extremely small. We went from six to barely 2. Now, of course, we didn't already have a litter of 6 and I wasn't a single mother...

What silly comments about calling DCFS because of what she said. Unless these children are showing signs of abuse and someone has actually seen it first hand, DCFS will do nothing and I don't blame them. They have enough children in their system who have actually suffered abuse and they don't have enough resources as it is.

It's not about what you personally think of Ms. Suleman, or the choices she has made, it IS about 14 young children, some, if not many, with special needs, who need to be given the best possible chance for a healthy life. While as parents we all get frustrated, and while I can't fathom having 14 kids to care for, her statements are NOT OK. For those defending her sentiments, yes, she can say what she wants, but how would you feel if your parents made statements like these in a public forum where they can live on indefinitely? Oh, your parents probably wouldn't say things like this to a national magazine, perhaps because even when parents feel frustrated, they generally don't tell the world they hate and are disgusted by their babies, or that their children are out-of-control animals. I do have sympathy, even for her, but she needs to step up and try to figure out what she needs to do going forward, make the tough choices, and give these children the life they deserve. She doesn't have to permanently relinquish her rights, or even put her children up for adoption, but she could consider allowing other people to take temporary custody of the children until she can get herself well and stable, both mentally and financially. I bet there are a lot of folks out there who would be absolutely thrilled to help give these children a temporary home for the short or long-term. I would certainly have a lot more respect for her putting the children first in that way. If only for the fact that as a mother I can't fathom hating my own children, I do believe she loves them, although she is obviously overwhelmed. I pray for her to find the strength to go forward and do what's best for her children.

Lots of judgement here, but this article seems awfully selective. Also, put yourself in her shoes, then place your judgement. Most parents at some point or another feel burdened with just three, two, or even one child. Imagine 14, by yourself, in financial straits. Can't imagine. This doesn't mean she doesn't love her kids, it means that the woman is against impossible odds and is only being honest about her darkest feelings. She needs help taking care of them and supporting them, not help analyzing her head and what could be wrong with her.

This woman put herself in those "impossible odds". You say she "needs help taking care and supporting them". Why don't you do it, then? She needed her head analyzed when she had the first 6 with no father around to help. I feel NO pity for her whatsoever, she got what she asked for. However, I DO pity all those children. I hope for their sakes, they are well taken care of both physically, emotionally and mentally. They definitely need it.
I am sorry but it seems you do not have all the facts. She WANTED to have more kids after she already had 6. She had received monetary help and she would still have money if she didn't spend it on having plastic surgery. I am a mother of 3 and I have never even thought of my kids as disgusting and i have never regretted having them. They truly are my world and make me happy. And she is even talking about suicide and hiding from them in a bathroom. She needs mental help. I don't think the kids should be taken away but i do think she needs mental help and if she is found to be ok after then they should still keep checking in on the kids until all gets better. But, as I was saying, she already had 6 kids, some with problems, no partner to help her with them and she still decided to go for more. Seems she wanted to be in this situation though I am sure she pictured it quite differently.

while I appreciate the thoughtfulness and General sentiment of your post (non-judgemental) there are some key issues we diverge about: 1) "impossible odds" = your house is on fire and there is a tornado down the street, Not: I have 6 kids (1 ? with special needs) so lemme more than double that with 8 more, with no regard as to how they will be emotionally or financially taken care of (negligent choices)
2) yes as a parent, it's not unusual to feel overwhelmed....It IS UNUSUAL to go on record in an interview and say "I hate the babies, they disgust me." .....which leads me to disagree with your observation that "it does mean she doesn't love them" ...
3) Some peoples reaction to this latest interview (myself included) is just another example of what people have been saying since this first broke: how can one person give 14 children the attention/affection/care/education/financial support required? Realistically, how many hours a day do you think she spends with any individual child??!

The public gave her tons of money and she spent it all on herself and her wanna be celebrity life. She's had more plastic surgery on her face and body, got eyelash extensions, expensive clothes yet claims she ran out of money to pay her mortgage. She's always scamming, I wish the media would ignore the troll so she can climb back under her bridge and go away.
It is time for this woman to give up all of her children. The state needs to step in until (if ever) she can get her act together to care for one child at a time. She made a terrible mistake by having the first six children, say nothing about having the other children. If this is not a troubling interview, I don't know what is. She needs to relinguish custody and sever ties of her young 8 babies to childless couples to raise- she should have done it from the beginning. It is obvious she is unable to raise these kids. Are her parents helping out at all or are they too disgusted to do anything? I feel very sorry for these toddlers. They need lots of love right now and she cannot give them the attention and love they need. The state of CA needs to intervene. I have despised this woman from the get go, and that stupid doctor that did the IVF on her.

Actually 3 of her older kids are autistic as well as 2 more are classified as emotionally disturbed. The younger ones are still too young to be diagnosed but I'm sure there will be some issues.
That being said your daughter is lucky to have a mother who adores her and takes care of her. I wish you and your daughter all the happiness you can find.
I think if this lady was 1) Childless before having 8 more 2) Married or at least in a relationship with the baby daddy of the newest litter, then maybe some folks would have some sympathy. Trouble is, for some bizarre and unknown reason, she felt the need to have more babies when she already had 8. Some unethical and doctor just as disturbed as she is – implanted way too many eggs. I do feel very sorry for those kids. I can only hope they aren't train wrecks by the time they get out of that house.

If she wants to commit suicide, I'd say, "Go for it." The kids would be far better off without her. There are a lot of caring people in this country who can't have children and would give them a lot more love than this stupid, attention seeking woman ever will. The last thing you wan to do though, is get CPS involved. They are worthless and often corrumpt. But there are other decent, legitimate agencies that could oversee the protection and care for these kids.

i feel bad for the kids not only for them having her as their mother but also for the situation she's put them in. i would be shocked if any of them grew up to be totally normal without any psychological problems. the kids are endangered in her care and need to be taken from her and put into foster homes where they'll be better cared for. Octomom is selfish and reckless and needs to do what's best for the kids – have CPS put them in foster care.
She just did a lengthy interview on Howard Stern yesterday, and aside from being very annoying, she said that she loved having the kids and that she lived her life for them. She also said that she has no paid help and doesn't take one cent of welfare. It's hard to say if that's all true, but her answers were very different from the ones listed in the article.
