Four go home on 'SYTYCD'I knew it was coming, and yet I still wasn't prepared for it. Due to last week's non-results show, Thursday night's episode had the judges taking on the unenviable task of eliminating four out of the six dancers in danger. The first two couples in danger - Missy and Wadi, Iveta and Nick - were predictable. I was fully prepared for Clarice and Jess to join them in the bottom three, but it was Ricky and Ryan instead! Before we got to the business at hand, there was a dynamite performance by Rage Crew (though some of the costuming on the tykes was a bit... questionable), and LMFAO and Quest brought down the house (no surprise there.... note to self: must listen to more LMFAO). As for the solos, I liked Nick's a lot, but it didn't compare with his routine with Jess to kick off the season. Iveta was extraordinary, but the rest weren't too great. So I had every reason to believe that Ryan and Ricky were on the way out, and I was going to be heartbroken over Ryan, who showed so much promise. Instead, surprisingly, the judges were unanimous in eliminating Iveta, along with Missy. Apparently Mary Murphy and Debbie Reynolds agreed. Happy to see Ryan safe, but sad to see Iveta go. I was also sad to see Nick go, and Nigel Lythgoe was very complimentary to him, and his future career. I didn't see what the judges apparently saw in Ricky, and he was safe. Being one of four hip-hop dancers, it was easy to predict that Wadi would be the fourth dancer eliminated. Well, time to move on to the top 16. It looks like Jess has some fans out there, so that's exciting. Can't wait to see what's in store next week! What did you think? Are you mourning Iveta and Nick as well, or any of the others? Did Ryan and Ricky deserve to stay? Sound off on iReport or comment below. |

I just want to say that Ryan Ramirez is a FANTASTIC dancer. She was cut shy of the top 10 last year so I do hope she makes it that far this time around. Not only is Ryan an amazing contemporary dancer (she's worked assisting Mia Michaels over the last few years) but she's also a ridiculous hip hop dancer and I cannot wait to see her do a Nappytabs or Dave Scott routine, both which compliment her style so well. I did feel as though Missy's solo was stronger and thought we'd lost Ryan but I was so relieved we didn't! Missy was better than some of the girls still competing though, so that's a loss, in my opinion. Iveta is excellent at all things ballroom but that Bollywood was awful and she's just not strong enough in other genres to compete at the level of the other girls this season, sorry to say. It is extremely disappointing that she was our only ballroom dancer this season!
I would have kept Iveta and Nick because they really did dance for their lives. Their solos were AMAZING!!!! Ricky, Missy, and Ryan's solos were okay. Wadi's solo was definitely sub-par. I knew he was going to get eliminated as soon as he was finished. I don't see the point of "dancing for your life" during the solos if the judges are just going to pick the dancers they like who perform not so great solos.
And...Yes, some of the little girls with the teeny tiny bras freaked me out a little. I would love to party rock with LMFAO!!!
Ok. I have never watched this show, so i have no comment about it. I do, however, want to pitch my idea for a new show here. It is a cross between a talent show and a survival show. I call it "so you think you can tell corny jokes while juggling running chainsaws as you ride naked on a tiny clown bike through a flaming hoop while covered in gasoline." the first one to come through unscathed wins the whole thing. Thoughts, anyone?
It sucks that Iveta and Wadi went home. i loved both of them. i agree with most everyone else that Ryan isn't that strong. in her group number when they were annoucing top 20 she did the worst. her extensions didn't compare to the other four dancers in her number and her timing was off in a couple parts. it also sucks about nick simply because he was an amazing tapper. i would of liked to of seen him go on further. oh well. i still like a lot of the dancers left.
I was surprised that they kept Ryan. I've thought all along that she was one of the weaker dancers and I thought they should have kept Nick also. I don't think I've ever seen anyone tap as well as he does and he nailed the Quick Step. However, the heat is on – Melanie and Marko are fabulous as is Sasha. It's going to be interesting this year.
I am disappointed. I do not think Ryan is special at all...it's just that Nigel is "in love" with her. She's his fave, for no other reason. Listen to past comments from him about her if you don't believe me. I am not a fan at all. I do wish Nick had not had to leave...the Quick Step is one of the most difficult dance styles to do really well and I don't believe I have ever seen anyone on SYTYCD do it better. Bummer. Ryan should have gone and Iveta should have stayed.
I think the problem is that nobody does the worm or the runningman any more.
I knew they would keep Ricky because he is a beautiful dancer. I thought for the girls that Iveta was had the best solo, but knwe they would not keep her on the show. I am very sad to see both Nick & Wadi go. Tap is my favorite kind of dance but I really didn't like his solo (they should have let him do it wihtout music) and Wadi would have been explosive to watch all season, he is a very nice guy (my sister was a co-worker- and just look at his naturally friendly smile) I would love to see more of him, so I am sad he's gone. I think Missy is going to probably blame Wadi for a long time on her going home, but I didn't think she was that much better than him at the Cha-Cha and her solo was less than enjoyable to watch. I just wish they went ahead and actually elimanated people last week so 4 people didn't have to go home, it was a lot.
I agree with Tom.
I like Ryan don't get me wrong, but Iveta was easily the best dancer out of the SIX people that did their solos. I thought hers was the best out of all 6, let alone the 3 girls. But apparently, they saw things differently than I did.
I'm very disappointed that a dancer of Ivetas caliber has already been sent home and she hasn't even had the chance to show us what else she could do.
I hate when good dancers go because of poor partners and/or poor choreography :-\
I too would have preferred it if they sent 2 people home last week, because now we have a bunch of excellent dancers already off the show and it's just begun.
The 4 sent home COULD have been worse, but I'm still unhappy about Iveta and her partner going home.
It's going to be quite a season when there's no easy picks in the first weeks! I don't disagree with the judges decision to keep Ryan as I do believe she will excel across styles better than Iveta and Missy. Iveta doing jazz and contemporary? Uh, no. I did disagree with the judges decision to keep Ricky (who is a detriment to Ryan). I thought Nick was unbelievable in week 1 doing the dreaded Quick Step. He's one of the few dancers that didn't get to dance in their own genre during the voting weeks. I would have thought he was the one to stay. He's performance was adequate for Bollywood and his solo was fantastic.
I was disappointed in the results. I understand that Ryan is the most popular of those three dancers, but it is America's job to base results on popularity. I hold the judges to a higher standard. Iveta should have been the girl to have stayed, based on her skill and that incredible solo. The bollywood number was sub-par, but I blame the choreography on that, certainly not as good as Billy and Robert last year, or Molly and the rosy-cheeked kid the year before.
On another note, sending nobody home last week totally skewed the results of this show, and 2 of the 4 dancers sent home did not deserve it at all. I would have much rather seen Mr. Whoooo! go home than Wadi, who was one of my favorites, and this year's tap dancer actuallly made tap watchable; a rare feat in my opinion.
