'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Is a televised wedding brilliant or bananas?

“Newlyweds” round two?

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo have just announced that their upcoming summer nuptials will be televised in a special on Lifetime. We all remember the downfall of Nick Lachey’s first marriage to Jessica Simpson after their MTV reality show “Newlyweds,” so we're asking: is this idea brilliant or bananas?

I like Nick and Vanessa a lot, but I’m having a hard time understanding why they would want to do this unless it is simply for the money – perhaps someone made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.

If they take it a step further and let cameras into their home for a reality show after the wedding, that’s a whole different story. I don’t know that cameras led to the demise of Nick’s first marriage, but they couldn’t have helped.

What do you think? Post below.

In other TV wedding news, Hugh Hefner just tweeted that his TV wedding special will air as planned, but without his bride! Originally, the special was going to document Hef and Crystal’s wedding preparations and the actual ceremony, until Crystal bailed days before!

Hef just tweeted: “The marriage special planned for Lifetime TV is now going to have a ‘runaway bride' theme and will air in July.” He also tweeted that former “Girls Next Door” Kendra Wilkinson and Holly Madison were a part of this new special.

I say good for Hef going ahead with this special! It might make it even more interesting. But what do you think? Brilliant or bananas?

We also have a revealing "Showbiz" newsmaker interview with La Toya Jackson. We’ll talk to her about the upcoming two-year anniversary of her brother Michael’s death, the new revelations in her book “Starting Over,” and what she thinks about her brothers going out on a Jackson 5 reunion tour.

The only reason they are doing this is becuz they don't have that kind money to afford V dream money so this is away to get their wedding and reception paid for plus pocket some

I actually agree with Sky. He still loves Jessica and Jessica still loves Nick. Both of them are too proud to admit anything of the sort. Whether it's pride or her family. The charade of "moving on" with other people goes on. They will go to great lengths to prove to one another and the world that they've moved on, when in all actuality, they haven't, they're still very much with one another and not the people they're marrying. It's a shame when true love takes a backseat to pride.

Maybe they can consult with Starr Jones on how to get more free stuff. She missed the televised angle with hers. This makes a mockery of marriage. They'll be divorced before you know it. This should be a private affair with family and friends.

Televised weddings are stupid. getting married is something you should share with close friends and family, not the whole world. of course my opinion is irrelevant and televised weddings will continue to happen. Oh well.

FACT: HE STILL LOVES JESSICA SIMPSON AND SHE STILL LOVES HIM.
BOTH ARE NOT HUMBLE TO ADMIT IT.....PRIDE CONTINUES TO RULE
OVER TRUE LOVE......GROW-UP TIME IS SO SHORT......
LOVE IS WORTH EVERYTHING...FIGHT FOR IT..."IF A PERSON GIVES ALL THEY HAVE FOR
TRUE LOVE, "THE WORLD WOULD HAT THEM!

The wedding, the wedding shower and Vanessa's search for the wedding dress will be televised 2 weeks after the wedding on TLC not Lifetime. It is what the couple want to do so our opinion is irrelevant. This is not a reality series but a special on TLC.

What a silly question! Obviously this is about$. Nick & Vanessa get a free wedding & probably more cool stuff for promotional purposes! As for Hef, it's probably more lucrative to put on the show (the show must go on!), than to cancel. He'd have to eat the cost, otherwise. A Runaway Bride theme is brilliant. Win-win for him & the network!! Like the saying goes: "It takes $ to make $!"
