Beyonce responds to album leakBeyonce still has three weeks to go before her album’s official release date on June 28, but some have already heard her upcoming album “4” in full. The record leaked in its entirety on Tuesday. It trickled out with the single “Party,” featuring Andre 3000, which was followed by the leak of “Countdown," according to the Los Angeles Times. Before long, the 12-track album was in circulation. It sounds like from the statement the 29-year-old singer posted on her Facebook page that she’s looking for the positive in this situation. “My music was leaked and while this is not how I wanted to present my new songs, I appreciate the positive response from my fans,” Beyonce said Wednesday. “When I record music I always think about my fans singing every note and dancing to every beat. I make music to make people happy and I appreciate that everyone has been so anxious to hear my new songs." But if fans are thinking “4” will be close in kind to “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” they should think again. As Rolling Stone explains, “4” is “a change of pace…a more relaxed, personal set that emphasizes ballads over bangers and showcases the singer’s nuances…the sort of album a pop star makes when she doesn’t feel like she has anything to prove.” |

Albums tend to be leaked when the lead off single(s) don't perform as well as other hits the artist has had. Leaking the album gives the record company an idea of which song(s) people prefer. It's a marketing tactic. Honestly her first single off this album wasn't catchy until I saw her perform it. But a good single(to me) is one that I can enjoy without needing an elaborate visual.

At 0.99 cents even "non-lil Monsters" might buy it still and probably did. Read some of the reviews on Amazon. A lot of people who weren't even fans bought it because it was .99 cents, not because they were big fans of her. She has a big fanbase, i'm aware of that, and i'm not arguing about her status as a popular artist (so don't go there with the self-defensive act), i'm just saying that harping on about her making 1 million is nothing new or special esp. if she sold it for so cheap (plus she's not the first to sell a million in one week).

I don't get why it's reported that an album from a major artist is "leaked" or that he or she may cry a river over lost revenue. The album is always leaked coincidently a week or a couple of days before the album is released. These days, a "leaked" album is a calculated marketing tool, and a successful one at that. Plus, most revenue comes from touring, hence is why no artist does or should complain about losing money from their album being "leaked."

I've been waiting for that since the 90s dude. Her first cd was amazing. She recently performed 2 songs on the Jimmy Fallon Show though, and that could hold me over for years to come. It's almost sad that her tv performance was probably better than most live shows I've been to.
I like maybe 5-6 Beyonce (solo) songs total. As a group it was harmonic and catchy, as a solo artist, it's typical female pop. I realize 25 year old straight guys aren't her core demographic, but her albums don't offer much of an eclectic mix of sounds aside from their singles. Sasha Fierce was ok, I enjoyed maybe 3-4 songs total.

I think in some cases, an album leaking out can be a good thing. Gaga took control of this and previewed many of her own songs, and 'Born This Way' sold gangbusters.
In Lady Gaga's case, she sold as much as she did for Born This Way because it sold for .99 cents on amazon.com. Any major artist can sell millions by charging so little, it's not really that hard or incredible.

Columbia, her record company, leaked the album on purpose because the response to her initial single, Girls (Who Run the World) was so negative. They needed to prove that the album was actually good, which it is.....but what a horrible choice for a first single.
Quite sure it was a joint decision to leak the album....between her and the reps at her record label.....i just don't get why people still waste time making these stories up about an album being mysteriously leaked......are we to believe that an artist of her caliber can't protect her music?
