You have your champion 'American Idol' fans

And we are done with Season 10 of "American Idol."

It's been a good ride, with some ups and downs and a few shockers along the way.

Plenty of people predicted a Simon Cowell-less "American Idol" would sink, but the ratings went up as did the voting tallies.

Now we have our winner: 17-year-old Scotty McCreery.

So what do you think? Shocked, angry or ambivalent? Do you think Scotty will go far or is he destined to go the way of some of the less successful "Idol" winners?

I'd like to thank you (trolls and all) for joining me this season as we enjoyed some performances, skewered some others and predicted who would be sent packing. I can't wait to read your comments - so sound off!

I am 61 years old. Vietnam era. Music revolutionized our country back then. Not the same old cookie cutter music but original songs and artists who are still going strong, ex: Steven Tyler, McCartney, Cher. Scotty and Lauren are not well rounded original artists. One style performers (Country) and should not have been chosen over originality, ex: Casey, James, Haley. Sorry to offend anyone but I only spend my money on good music and, by the way, listen to GAGA..yes, she is weird but extremely talented and needs the shock and awe to compete with the untalented teeney boopers, like Beiber.

KARA: Scotty the total package?? What?? How old/young are you...12? He is a one trick pony (translation: he can only do low-bass country songs). This forum must all be kids under 13!! Because there is not one poster in touch with the real world of music. Just ask 2009 winner Kris Allen who now plays Toad Suck Days annual festival and various benefit concerts in his home state of Arkansas. True

Well what a fitting ending for the absolute WORST season on the 10yr history of this dead show. A 17yr old country bumpkin that sounds like a 56yr old bass singer in a white gospel/country vocal group wins. Pathetic. Let's sum this season up shall we? First of all every single top ten contestant with maybe, just maybe the exception of Pia, couldn't hold a candle to any of the top 5 in the past 9 seasons. Name one singer as good as Daughtry; David Cooke; David Archuleta; the Pickler; Carey U; Mr happy boy Adam Lambert; Kat McPhee; Kelly Clarkson; Ruben...the list goes on and on people! This year was horrible and the nail in the coffin. And the judges!! Steven Tyler: awesome singer – person, but come on dude...is every singer "beautiful man"??? NO!! J-Lo: love looking at you but once you open your mouth I had to hit the mute button – Paula redo with a better bon-bon. And Randy – poor Randy. "Dude, dog, dude, dog, yo, dude, dog, yo yo listen up yo, dude dog..." Who in this DECADE talks like that? Answer: NO ONE. And why Randy, is everyone in it to win it?? Dah, you freakin "I played with Journey when they played state fairs" idiot! You were relevent in the past but this season you lost it – you sold out dude/dog.
I hate this show and am so glad it's over. And any of your morons out there who think that big eared self-annointed heavy metal rocker was any good is a bigger moron thaN James. That pitiful performance with Judas Preast was as pathetic as they are relevent – NOT! So I hope all you tweenies are happy – YOU, Randy and the producers drove this show into the ground. Good freakin riddins!

As a fellow singer, I tip my hat to Scotty and congratulate him. Of the two left though, I think Lauren was the stronger singer. Scotty only won because of the country vote. But in the end, I still think that James Durbin should have won hands down.

I will say I was a little annoyed when they were calling Lauren as the winner, the way they were saying that can give her an edge in the voting but thankfully it didn't turn out that way..

What I think Scotty brings to Country Music is a male who brings the tween girls to country music much like Taylor Swift, helping to build the next generation of country music fans. Once you are hooked, you're in for life. Vocally, Lauren had more talent – I picked her to win when I saw her audition. James had the most heart. I so want a record label to pick him up and help make his dreams a reality. My son has Asperger's like James and it is so hard to try and fit into the world when you are different. He did a great of job of it and I am so proud of him for putting himself out there as he did.

I have to say that I have been singing in the Country music industry since I was 13 years old. I had 5 people picked out from the very start of this season. Scotty, Lauren, Haley, James and Pia. I believed that this five would make it into the show and they did. I believe that no matter where they finished that they would all have careers in the industry. I believe that a lot of you are talking about the voting and it being the young girls putting in the most votes. Well until the change that procedure and how you vote it will never be any different. That young vote was NEVER going to understand how talented Haley, Casey, Pia and James really were. But I want you to know that being in this business for over 50 years that I know that Scotty and Lauren will go far. They have the whole package. I am glad that they will be following in big footsteps in this business and I believe that they will both do well. As will they others that I have mentioned. So I only have one question to all of you that are making comments on this page about the voting is do you get on and call or whatever all those times for your favorite? If not then please stop complaining about the voting and if your favorite did not win. Thanks

The finale was excrutiatingly boring. Both Scotty & Lauren sucked with absolutely no performance skills whatsoever. It was like watching paint dry. Snoozefest. The results show last night was much better, so good in fact that Scotty & Lauren were completely eclipsed by everything else that was going on. Pretty much speaks for their careers I think. James, Haley, Pia, Casey and even Steffano were all just as good, if not better, singers and most of them (sorry Pia) were entertaining to watch. I have no doubt the final two will have careers in the music industry, but neither of them are going to be superstars by any means.

Good season. I thought that Pia or James would win, But Scotty (Big round head, ears and shape of face really look a lot like the Mad Magazine character) is a very good singer. I feel he will be just as big as Carrie Underwood in the Country Music world. Country fans are a force to be reckoned with. He's got the young girls on lock and the Cougars in waiting.

This show really screwed up when they started letting everyone vote as many times as they want, just so they can get the extra money from the texting revenue. These two finalists would never have made it it everyone voted once. James should have one hands down, but because his fans are older, they don't sit up all night voting millions of times.

IIt is time to change the voting process to one vote per contestant each week. You could still cast one vote for multiple contestants. This would normalize the bias introduced when a person casts multiple votes for a contestant, e.g., 10-15 year old girls.

The voting process has to change. I like Scotty a lot but don't think he deserved to win the whole thing and I think he feels the same way. DWTS has a much more accurate voting system because usually the winner is deserving with runners up just as deserving. It's crazy how many times one person can vote depending on the technology they have available to them. The judges should have some input into the final decision. Something needs to be done.

The fact that Lady Gaga scares Scotty is a good thing. As much as I enjoy Gaga, I'm sure she could be very intimidating to a young, wholesome 17-year old kid. There are still some innocent, sheltered 17 year olds – even in the U.S. Gaga is practically naked in every show, whether it's live or on TV, and she thrives on the dramatic. Not everyone enjoys or feels comfortable with that kind of "in your face" stuff. Let's see where Scotty ends up – hopefully, he won't turn out like Tyler Hicks or the winner from last year, Lee DeWyze, who wasn't even invited to perform at this year's finale. Now, there's a forgettable face and name!!

I totally agree with many of you on so many points. For me, James Durbin was my picki. Both for overall talent, and a great voice that rivals many of the seasoned rockers out there. (I'm not surprised that Steven Tyler didn't end up doing a duet with James – Tyler couldn't take standing there while James sang out, better, louder, sharper Steven's own song. I knew that would never happen!) HOWEVER, having said that and accepting the fact that James was booted out, I put my sights on the two finalists, Lauren and Scotty. Now, I'm not a big country fan, but I've got to say, that this kid, for his age, has a very mature and positive outlook. I'm not going to judge that he mentioned the "Lord" and that the family are probably Right-wing Christians – that's not the point. When you saw last night Scotty up against Tim McGraw, you could very well imagine that Scotty might win. He went note for note on that song with McGraw, and at times, it was hard to tell who was the "seasoned star" and who was the contender. I've got to say, at that point, I thought that maybe he just might take it all. I was a Lauren fan, but when she sang against Carrie Underwood, she just didn't cut it. Carrie out-sang her – as a matter of fact, that was one of the best performance that I've seen from Carrie Underwood. Unfortunately, even though Lauren has a good voice and is as cute as a button, there are already many "Laurens" in the country music scene. I know that Lauren will have a good career regardless, but I do believe Scotty will go very far. I think Country Music needs some singers with original "country grass roots", and Scotty definitely fits the bill. I also agree with all of you who say that it was one of the best IDOL seasons, with so much talent, and no need from the snarky Simon Cowell. I don't think these kids would have done as well and been as positive if he had been there to criticize everything from their hair to their clothes. I agreed with a lot of his comments, but sometimes he just went to far. He forgets that some of these young people are 16 and 17, and not being a father himself, he doesn't mind hurting their young egos.

    1. Don't believe anyone who posts here that they won't watch it next year. If they read and write posts after the 10th season, I can assure you all, they will watch the 11th 🙂 After the first season, this could be a fair claim, but not after the tenth.

    2. Ignore the "Scotty is a one trick pony" style remarks. Yes, he is, but show me any superstar, who sings outside of his/her genre. Show me a famous and popular Steve Tyler country song or a popular heavy rock song from Garth Brooks, and so on. All stars are "one trick ponies" in a way.

    3. Steve Tyle still can sing everybody under the table age 63. That guy is one amazing performer. Would anyone give a damn, if he was "pithcy"? Would anyone even notice?

    4. After hearing the first 12, I predicted Casey or James or Scotty to win, in that order. I think Casey harmed himself with the grunting in every song, regardless whether it fitted or not. Otherwise a very impressive artist. His brief improvisations on his handheld keyboard (name?), his upright base talent, his obviously good voice suggests a long term success. I don't know how much James future will be influenced by his illness and weird facial expressions. Otherwise, his voice belongs to a rock group, not as a long term solo success. Just as Cook, Daughtry. Scotty's future pretty much depends on what the industry chiefs decide. The days when one can become popular simply based on people telling each other that "I have seen such and such a group/singer, they'he/she is great" are over. So are the days when one small publisher/manager can push somebody to success. The whole thing became an industry, based on factors beyond being good or not.

I think that Scotty will have as big a career as Carrie Underwood. He has a very strong and unique voice. I think his voice is better than Tim McGraw's, whom he sang with last night. However, I don't feel that Lauren held up against Carrie when they sang together. The proof is in the pudding, as they say. I wish them both well.

Didn't watch much of the show this year, cause it just ain't the same without Simon (especially) and Paula (surprisingly). Evidently you can't have three performers as judges, at least, not these three, since they don't have the heart to be tough. Maybe some like the "nicey-nicey" approach to judging, but I prefer Simon's cold splash of critical reality.

GREAT season finale. Such a fun concert with so many stars and great songs. Congrats to Scotty, he deserved it.
I loved Steven and Jennifer as Judges, they brought some class to the show, instead of all the b - Sh–, that Paula, Kara, Ellen, and Simon did with their arguing and acting dumb.
Randy and the other two were great together.

Lauren should have won! Scotty is so boring and did the same thing over, over and over! Lauren is an all around beter "talent" than him. I thought this was a TALENT show. I agree w/a prev post, they need to limit it to 1 voter per person/house/ph or whatever. All the little girls voted for Scotty and that's how he won. I feel like the winner at the finale should be picked by the judges. All 3 judges thought it should have been Lauren based off talent but b/c of the millions of little girls voting for Scotty, the most talented singer missed out on winning. They really need to re vamp this b/c I really don't think it's fair.

I think Scotty is the most marketable of all of the contestants this year on AI. Don't get me wrong, I think James and Lauren were both really good, but we know how receptive country music is to AI contestants: Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, etc. Scotty, as long as he gets a good songwriter and continues to pick up a guitar, will make a lot of money in country music.

Did anyone else think he should've put on a cowboy hat at some point during the show???

Did anyone else notice that Ryan didn't say a record X amount of votes at the end, and the winner is. Does that mean there were fewer votes in the final, than in prior shows, I think it does. Now does that mean that just as many people didn't care anymore because their favorite was bumped early. Mine was, and I bet yours was too!

What the hell kind of a T.V. were you watching ???????????????
Lauren is a real good singer, but Scotty has way more stage presence than she has.
I think that Pia got a raw deal being voted off so early. She should have been no less than in the top four.
Lady "GOO-GOO" could have easily been left off of what was a real good final show. A "PIG"? You bet she is !!!!!!!!!!

Scotty's singing voice is a gimmick, I found his performaces to be boring after the first few. He has no range, and if it weren't for the invention of microphones, you wouldn't be able to hear him. Of course, that's true for most pop artists these days, so he should fit right in. Scotty won because all the little girls think he's so cute. The Idol contestants with real talent this season deserve to have great careers. If Pia, James, Casey, and especially Haley record some songs, I'll buy them.

James wasn't bad as far as heavy metal goes.
He will make about one tour, & that will be the last we here, or see of him.
HEAVY METAL went out years ago !!!!!!!!!
As far as Scotty goes, he will do extremely well for years, & years.
Ever heard of George Strait–Alan Jackson–Garth Brooks–, & the list goes on & on.
In case you doubters didn't know, the above mentioned are all "COUNTRY SINGERS" & have been for years.
Country Music will never die, where as Heavy Metal has died along time ago.
How about Lauren & Scotty recording a few songs together? A winner for sure.

This is the first year I have gotten tickets to the Idol tour . I think this has been an incredible season with so many talented kids. Kudos to them all , especially James , Paul and Casey , Pia and Haley. They will still do well , all just so talented . I hope we see them all again somewhere.over the next few years.
Also I felt the Lady Gaga performance was over the top for prime time with so many children watching . Okay for her show , it is what makes her Gaga , but much too much for a show in that time slot.

I thought James won that race and Scotty came in 3rd, closely followed by Lauren and Haley.
I was disappointed Pia didn't do a duet, paired up with a star, last night. Possibly they didn't want to remind everyone just how good she is and how she was in a class of her own. Embarrassing to have her outsing everyone again.

I'm very happy Scottie won. I thought Lauren was a nice girl, but at 16, isn't school a lillle more important? At 17, Scottie's probably graduating this year. To me, Lauren's voice sounded like every other country teenybopper singer. Scotty, on the other hand, could REALLY sing.

J-Lo sure can shake her bon bons, can't she? Why didn't Marc Antony sing in English? The show is shown other places besides California and out west – not all of us in the East are bi-lingual. I muted it and watched J-Lo dance.

Did anyone else notice what good shape Tim McGraw is in? Yummy.

At the beginning of the show, when they show all the winners in those long panels, look closely. I think they only show one person who did not win, and that person is Adam Lambert. Hmmmm...

I think the results of this show are in direct correlation to the 'mean girls' effect. Simply put, most of the voters on this show are teen girls who got caught up in the 'cute-ness' of Scotty. And they would do anything not to see one of their own peers of the same gender win or excel at something better than them. You could clearly see the mean girls effect happening early on in the judging when some of the girls who had real, genuine talent were continually being booted off the show well before some of the guys – who had far less talent. All in all, the finalists were all very good to great, so obviously it was just going to come down to a popularity contest.

But fret not for Lauren, I'm sure she's already signed a recording contract by sun up today!

scotty won because of money. The show is about money. I believe the show is set up. I could be wrong but this is my opinion. Scotty will do very well career wise. He does have a perfect voice for country and the show knows that. His albums will do outstanding in the country genre and the show knows this. AI has not had a really COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL winner in a while and in the end that hurts the bottom line. I believe AI is totally fixed and to me this season has proved it. As for all the GOD hating remarks in these comments, I just want to ask you who say those things, why? Why does it matter who likes God and who doesn't to you? To me that is proof in and of itself that GOD is real just because of the power it has to be that popular for people to bash. Arguing about God in comments section because someone says thank the Lord is just plain whacked. No offense to anybody meant. The true believers should not take offense or pay attention to any of those comments because when we personally take offense to something we take the focus off of God and put it on ourselves selfishly in mohho. Lol. In my own honest humble opinion. Have a great day peeps. Enjoyed reading everyones comments.

Considering most of the voters are teenage girls who don't have to pay the bill for repeatedly voting (parents pay instead), it is no surprise the cute boy won. It had nothing to do with talent but rather, was based on gender and popularity. Appreciation for talent is not a consideration by this bunch. I enjoyed watching the finale, but I predicted many weeks ago that Scotty would win. The teeny boppers control the voting, and vote for the cute guy next door. They are not that interested in who is the best singer or the most talented. Unless the producers revamp the voting (50 votes each is nuts) and the judges have some say in the final outcome, I'm done with Idol. I've watched the show for many years, but I'm tired of feeling brokenhearted for the truly talented people like James and Pia when they are voted off for no reason. Unfortunately, Idol is a popularity show controlled by tweens. It's been a great run. I've enjoyed the show in the past. Now I'm going to give the X Factor a chance, but if their voting is similar, then I will not watch it either. My favorite show is on tonight–So You Think You Can Dance. And here the contestants are amazing, and the voting is more sensible. Bye, bye Idol.

Either millions of people need their ears checked by a good doctor, or they just don't care that they gave this to someone who has such a challenge singing well. Hopefully he will employ a good singing coach to teach him how to use his voice and stay on key.

    Some notes:
    1. Voting wasn't working quite right the night James was voted off.
    2. Haley, though a unique voice, turned off many with percieved "arrogance". There is a fine line between self-confidence and arrogance.
    3. Scotty is 1/4 hispanic. Latin websites have been following his progress. He is the first Latino to win.
    4. Many vote for the entire package, not just a good singer. I live in Florida, very populous state. There are people who sing as well as Lauren or Pia that I know personally (1 aunt out of 7, my husband's best friend's sister, the woman who leads my sister-in-law's church, etc.)
    5. They sing all the dang time. Check out comments from past idol contestants. By the end of the season many of their voices are strained. Try singing seven days a week, hours a day. Your voice goes. Scotty isn't projecting as well now, but that doesn't mean he won't do it later.
    6. Who is successful from here will be the person who finds a niche. That's how it goes. If you get a following, if you find a niche, albums can be mixed like crazy to get a good sound. Example: Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus. Personally I do not believe they sing better than many on idol, but they sure sell albums. On the other hand, Bianca Ryan, who rips it has pretty much failed.

I agree and disagree. I agree on generating a following, finding a niche and how the process can strain a voice. However, Scotty never had good control of his voice. It was always off pitch/key. I was amazed he made it through to Hollywood. That probably wouldn't have happened with Simon on the panel. Just sayin...

I am uncertain Scotty's voice was "always" off key/pitchy, but I must admit to questioning the choice of key in which he sang on multiple occassions. Folks sing within a certain range, go out of that range and the resulting sound is generally unpleasant.

In any case, Howdy Doody will undoubtedly release his first CD in a few months, and then, disappear, like the previous two year's "winners." (If he's lucky, he MIGHT get invited to peform at some state/county fairs after that.)

Everyone played by the rules, thats why Scotty won. When you have teens voting on there phone and computer all night as fast as they can, how do you think the outcome is going to be like. They either have to change the voting like only ten votes per phone, or change the name of the show to American Teen Idol. If they dont change the voting system, (which I heard they are talking about doing) I think they will lose a lot of people watching. I know one teen that voted 1,000 times for Scotty. She make a bet with a friend that she could vote more than her.

The only one of them all that had any talent was Casey. But this show isn't based on talent... it's based on millions of 12 year old girls with cell phones texting in votes for hours on end. And that's why this show fails. This show needs real judges who make all of the decisions up to the finale. Then when the top 3 or so are decided let the audience vote ONE TIME PER PERSON.

Absolute sham – Pia or Haley were far more talented and versatile, but we ended up with a religious nut, making everything he sang sound like a hick country and western song. I am disgusted and have quit watching forever.

But my final questions and suggestions are:

Why don't they reveal the actual votes per person, how do we actually know that Scotty won, we were just told so!

Reverse the voting system- contestants should be voted OFF.

To me, this was the best finale show ever! And I was very pleased that Scotty won. Very deserving. I think people were looking for different and fresh. He and Lauren stayed true to who they were and I'm sure will bring many younger people into the Country Music fold. All the celebrities were great! And Steven J-Lo and Marc Anthony even better. Awesome!

Kind of a lackluster end to a season some good talent. I fear that Scotty will soon by on the county fair circuit rather than the stadium circuit. His sound isn't better than you hear in any backup band in a country bar in any city.

I would have been happy with either one of them winning. They are both quite talented. Good luck to both Scotty and Lauren, and all of the other AI talent we've seen this year. Of the ones who left the show earlier, I think James, Pia, and Casey will be the ones who turn their AI dreams into a career. Good luck to all of them.
I thought the show was pretty good, but I could have done without the Spiderman bit. Steven Tyler was great though! A very smart addition to the show. Thanks AI for a great season! Until next year!

Lauren was Cursed !!! when J- Lo said I JUST THINK YOU HAVE JUST WON THIS -the night before!!! AAYYY – you don't say that!! That's what Jinxed David Archuletta when he lost to David Cook- although I was rooting for Cook. Lauren is much more versatile then Scotty-(DROP THE "Y" Scotty- it sounds like you're 6) and have any of you REALLY watched Scotty sing every song- looks like he has a stomach ache- holds his arm across his waist every song- what is up with that?? And that side mouth thing.. I realize you're only seventeen but it proves GIRLS MATURE FASTER THEN BOYS- the winner should have been LAUREN.
JAMES – 4th for you- 4th for DAUGHTRY- you'll go far my friend . STAY STRONG !!

I like Scotty, but out of the two, Lauren should have won. I don't like Hayley's personality, but i think she deserved to win just because she has a unique voice. James Durbin is cool but he can only do one cool thing with his voice and it gets old after a while. Casey was good but that whole growling thing at the end of EVERY note is really annoying. I wish I never heard Jacob. He is annoying to watch and is more femanine than me. Everyone praised him on how great his singing was but he can't sing at all. Get outta here dude.

I didn't vote until this last week, and I cast it for Scotty. He had a voice that won over the county vocal lover in me but he had the entertainer ease. I still am a rocker at heart for James, but Scotty may have just got me to buy my first country album. Lauren, not unlike her pair up Carrie Underwood, is hugely talented as well and I hope to hear great things from her. To all the young contestants this season, wish you all a great career 'cause the vocals were amazing this year! Kind of glad this crew got to be judged by an amazing and supportive panel!

I am from the "Lauren area"...gasp...I didn't watch the show...and I know people who voted 50-100 times each week. I just don't understand why you get more than one vote. American Idol was very entertaining this year. As for who really won...go to itunes, now that AI is over, you can see who sold the most songs. This would be a good indicator of who will make it a career. James, Casey & Haley should have good music careers. It's a good thing Scotty won, because w/the backing of AI, he should do okay in the country world. I think Lauren just needs a couple years. My personal pick was Haley. I like music that doesn't sound like every other song out there. She brings an interesting and unique style. My daughters like her too.

Scotty, and for that matter Laura Alaina will both have very good country careers. I guarantee you that will happen. Second I really liked Pia as well but go ahead and admit your biased Louis Cypher! I'm glad so many on here are such good judges of tallent. I actuallly think all top 13 finalist were very good. I really liked James Durbin and was rooting for the kid. But to say that Scotty Mcreery or Lauren Alaina were not lagitimate talent speaks to your own biased. Both Scotty and Lauren Alaina will have amazing country music careers. Just because you don't like country does not mean these kids are not talented because they are extremely talented singers. Particularly in the country music field. I read all the hate on here and I can only come to one conclusion. You haters are biased because you dislike country music. Well I sympathize with you on that one because I dislike most country music and my wife loves it. But it's ok to hate country music but admit country singers have talent. Perhaps next season a rocker will win it. Also please be mature and wish all the contestants well. Don't wish ill on anyone. Congratulations Scotty, my wife will by buying yours and Laren's records as well as the other 11 contestants as soon as you guys have them released. Scotty proved that this year and he is gonna soar. Heck I even see him as being country's version of Bieber. Pia had chops but was boring. James could sing but was too much like adam lambert. Haley was good but to me was a bar singer at best. Jacob had chops but was boring as well. After watching the finale I honestly thought Larua would win but Scotty pulled through. Also for the ignorant folks who's mad because he thanked God suck it up and realize there are still a lot of believers and followers of Christ in this world and this world doesn't revolve around you! I expected nothing less. America voted for Bush twice, and now they voted for the teenage version of him to win Idol. They need to chance the voting system on this show since it is obviously broken as evidenced by the winner last year (Lee DeWho?) and this year coming down to Bumpkin A vs Bumpkin B, while the real talent sits on the sidelines. Haley and Pia were FAR better than these two twits.

I'm certainly not 15 or 16 (I wish), I am 77 and I have watched all 10 seasons of American Idol. I voted for Scotty from the
beginning. His huge talent was so obvious. Such a good roll model for kids. "Screaming" is not talent and I believe that America really got it right. Last night's show was outstanding, best of all seasons. My only disappointment was the obvious partiality shown by the judges. They should never be asked "who they think will win?" America can be trusted to get it right, thanks America. Good luck Scotty, will be watching your success!!

I assume you are talking about James. His "screaming" is just a loud upper range that he has that is still melodic in sound so technically it is NOT screaming. I'm sure you have always been a country fan and know no other type of music nor do you want to open that closed mind of yours. At 77 you would think you'd be a little more open-minded but then again coming from Hicksville, VA it doesn't surprise me.

What a relief. One day I went to dinner at my friends Helen's house. American Idol came on. We enjoyed the show, and made sure to see the following results show. I had no idea, I would watch the season every week with Helen.
You can really get caught up with heart for the different contestants. My first choice was always Scotty. However,
my next 3 were Haley, James, and Stefano. I was sad when Stefano left, devastated when James left, and didn't understand when Haley left. I was glad the finale brought them back. I also enjoyed their camaraderie. On Scotty's first CD, he should include a duet with Lauren. They seem like a match. I'm going to watch out for Haley, James, and Stefano's music. I hope they put something out their soon. Both Helen and I are exhausted. We need a rest from each other.......

is what matters. Lauren is a much better singer, as is James, Pia and Thia! Scotty butchered that Kenny Rogers song.
Wow really ? Thanks Idol for 10 years but after this fiasco I won't be back.

First of all, you will be back, so let's not kid ourselves. Second, talent shows itself in many different ways. Was he the best vocalist of the bunch? No, of course not, Pia was. Was he the most musically inclined? No, Casey was. Did he have the best stage presence? That one would probably go to James or maybe Haley. But if you look at the total package, I think Scotty comes out on top. All those other very talented contestants had their obvious strengths, but they also had obvious weaknesses. Scotty wasn't the strongest in any individual category, but he was up there on just about all of them, and had the fewest weaknesses. Plus it is very obvious he will succeed swimmingly in his genre of choice, it's not so obvious with the others. That's why he won.

    3) critique spelling mistakes
    4) close with "just sayin"

I'm all about country music, but you put him up there with Tim and come on!!!! There's so much more talent in the top 12 then Scotty. He can't hold a candle to Haley or James! So what was it 30 million teeniboppers up past their bedtime last night? He's not even that cute, and the way he holds the mike, that's just not right! Yep I agree, two years tops, and he playing the county fairs with second billing to James.

Once Pia, James and Haley were bounced, what other choice did we have? Country fans are LOYAL to a fault. Talent doesn't matter as much as staying true to the genre. We should watch for the other AI contestants to get incredible contracts. They'll all be dancing on the way to the bank.

II've watched Idol twice, once in the first season and last night. A grotesque show that combines Las Vegas lighting, sleazy post-disco dancing, and a Walton's family ethos. Neither of the singers last night was good and the songs were corny, astonishingly over-produced, and badly sung while the two kids made overly dramatic gestures. A shame that the country has fallen this low. There are good singers and good songwriters. Idol seems to have a talent for not finding them.

The real winner never wins on American Idol. This year had some great talent but the fact that Pia was let go early and James, the obvious winner and most talented was let go is a joke. The show has literally become a joke.

I could not agree with you more. The first huge disappointment was Pia giving the boot, one of the most vocally talented of the bunch. I was totally rooting for her. After she was gone, I was cheering for Jacob Lusk, but his victory was pretty farfetched. With the top 4, I was hoping that James would take it all, but he lost. What is going on here? And even between the top 2, I was hoping that Lauren would win (I really loved her audition and watched it over and over on YouTube, but her vocals weren't as strong as some of the others by the time we had the top 10). Anyway, not even that happened! Ugh!

I meant to say, Pia *getting the boot,* not giving. That would have been nice though. 🙂

Singing talent does not always equate to success. Pia has the most raw talent of this season's finalists, I'll give you that. She was also by far the best looking, male or female. But she had no soul, no personality, and no stage presence. She does not connect with an audience. That's why she lost so early on. I hope she finds herself and figures out what kind of an artist she is, because she really is talented and really is easy on the eyes.

Who the heck said he has personality & stage presence?? Are u crazy?? It should have been Haley & Lauren, and James right behind! Scotty should be happy that Simon wasn't there! Because Scotty would never have made it to the top 12! Will not watch next year, and I had been watching for almost ten years, since I picked the first winner (Kelly?) to win!! Scotty was interesting but one of the least talented on the show. Durbin and Haley are independant talents that will do the best recordings and shows from this season. I noticed people that dont know much about country music liked Scotty and the ones that know country music are not big fans. He won fair and square and time will tell , and if he works hard on singing lessons and works with good producers he can make a decent career for himself. There will always be talent shows where the best do not win and with hard work Scotty could get to a decent talent level. The show was fun this year and there was some great talent but I am afraid that they will lose many viewers next year with Scotty winning on thin talent.

I have to say that I disagree...guess that's why we have so many different kinds of music. I wanted Haley (who's signing hurt my ears) to go before she ever got to the top 10.. and Casey was never a fav of mine...I do like and listen to country music and I loved to hear both Scotty and Lauren. Voted for them both to help get the to the end. And I'm not a 12-15 yr old tinee bopper. My dear ol' 62 yr old dad picked Scotty as his fav right from the beginning!

    • Bruce

See Aunt M, THAT is your problem. You just said you liked country, you never mentioned any other kind of music so your opinion really doesn't count. You are not open to any other kind of music. Casey is a great case in point. He had more talent and more vision than ANY of the other contestents. Did he have the great big voice like James or the great melodic voice of Pia? No. but he brought pure entertainment to this show. So to say you thought Scotty was the best doesn't even come close to the truth. Purely on singing ability it should have been Pia and James in the final. Now THAT would have been great diversity and made it much more interesting than two young kids who sang country with Scotty having minimal talent.

James should have won it. Thing is, he's religious, too, but he doesn't make a big thing of it. He met his fiancee and the mother of his child in CHURCH when they were kids. But because he doesn't kiss a cross on national television, he's not worthy?

Here's a crazy idea! Push talent one degree back from the top of our usual discussion, The point is we have tons of talented singers in the world. What if this winner is just really, really SMART, although he seemed like a not-so-smart farmer from the sticks?

What if this kid is as smart as Paul McCartney and John Lennon? What if he didn't win because of his high level of talent (indisputable), but because he was both talented AND really, really smart - so smart that he used strategy and focus to stay "on message"?

He has always stayed true and loyal to who he is, and he just was who he was: a country boy. Seems simple, but it won him a big prize. This guy is not just talented, he's really smart. Give him his due. I love him for who he started out as, and stayed true to.

RAP and HipHop are shoved down our Eustachian tubes by those who run the airwaves, but the genre only accounts for about 10% of all music sales, according to SoundScan. Probably less than that are AI viewers. So, obviously the genre doesn't have a snowball's chance of making it into the top 25 AI contestants.

Last night, when the finalists were able to have their teachers join them and present them with cars at the finale, they presented them with the invitation on their trip home, obviously, from the footage. Did Haley get the same opportunity and it wasn't publicized? I wonder if her favorite teacher was in the audience. If not, at the time that the two teachers were invited, we hadn't even voted for the top two yet. How did they know which two schools would be working for the chance to win an extra $10,000 by test driving the Focus, which they then presented to the teachers? They didn't have time to go home twice, so this was done during top 3.

I'm not about conspiracy theories, but this one reeks.

Scotty was interviewed following the show and was asked about Lauren, he very shyly stated "We're good friends". I don't believe they are boyfriend and girlfriend, but the two, being so young and both country singers, kind of hung out together. On their duets their voices come together. Don't be surprised to hear one of those duets on his first album. What was refreshing about Scotty was, he was not a cowboy singer. He is a country singer. I think there is quite a difference. I do believe Lauren should layoff singing until her voice is healed and then stay in a lower range. Both will do well.

They're not voting on talent, obviously. Kris Allen was a winner, too and the dude was so not memorable. I'm done with stupid show

obviously your definition of talent differs from mine. both finalists are young and eager to grow.. I look forward to hearing from them both in the future...
I am also really impressed that you know where all 122 million votes came from last night. *rolls eyes*

I would venture to say that the majority of 122 million votes came from young squeeling giggling 11 to 15 year old girls who haven't even reached puberty yet. I can just hear them saying, "Oh Scotty, Oh Scotty, giggle giggle giggle, heee heee heee. We don't know anything about talent, but we love you and want you to be our BF and marry us some day. Cry cry giggle giggle, we are so in love with Scotty and we're only 13 year old girls, giggle giggle."

Scotty is a good singer but he sound the same in every song he sings. I believe that Lauren was more versitile and able to sing somthing else other than just country. I wish Scotty and Lauren well!

I am an 83 year old woman who can't stand country! But I chose Scooty the first time I heard him. Othr country singers can't hold a candle to him. The problem with Lauren is, at 15 she will lose her voice if she keeps trying to reach those high notes. he vocal chords ar not mature yet and won't be until she's in her 20's. At the rate she's going her voice will be completely gone unless she stays in her range.Scotty stuck to his guns an deserved to win!

I agree Scotty is a one trick pony. It could have been either of them that one. It really should have been a Haley/James finale. maybe it would have been a little more exciting. I thought the show was dull and boring with a few good performances thrown in, but for 2 hours it wasn't worth it. American Idol is a joke, the judges don't know how to judge all they do is pick their favorites – hail praise all over them no matter what they do/don't do. I can't remember the last season that the most talented one ended up the winner – maybe Season 1.....

'Typical left-winger'? 'Obozo'? I think Beegee was idiotic in what he said but enough already with the stereotyping and disrespect. Scotty proved he can hang with Tim McGraw and Nashville will keep him busy for quite awhile; great voice for that genre. I was less impressed with Lauren mostly because she gets pitchy and doesn't have the same strength of voice; she got toasted in her duet with Carrie Underwood. James D. has more raw talent and Haley has a more versatile and polished voice. Was disappointed that it wasn't Haley vs. Scotty, but his duet with Tim McGraw was worth it.

I think it is funny when people say scotty sounded the same in every song he sang. Axel Rose, meat loaf, so on and so forth all sound the same in the songs they sing. Unreal. Scotty and Lauren had a good following, Scotty\Lauren was in my top 5 but I didnt have them slated to win, I had picked James, In the final 3 I really wished that Haley would have won after james was booted, Scotty got the votes, Lauren is happy for him and they are dating each other, I see big things from both of them.

This was a fun season with a lot of unique characters and surprises. I get a kick out of all the critics. It's a TV show, folks – entertainment. I like watching just to see these kids basically live a dream – and on finale night it's fun to see them sing with all these legends and personal heroes. For the critics – lighten up and learn how to have fun a little bit. Enjoy watching these kids!

I agree! I normally do not like country music but I have always liked Scotty! He seems like such a good kid, his parents must be so proud. I think that as long as he doesn't stray from the path he has carved for himself (andI don't think he will) he will be a big country star AND a great role model for teens/pre-teens. I voted for him every week and I am in my 20s. My parents both of them in their late 50s also loved Scotty, (and we live in NY, not the south) so it wasn't just teeny boppers!!!

Fantastic show tonight! I could have done without Lady Gaga, but the rest was really good, and I loved the pairings. Casey and Jack Black were so fun! I think both first and second place winners will do well, but I think that James Durbin will end up being the real winner.

Regardless that the outcome was Scotty winning, guess what? I agree the real winner nationally will be James Derbin. He is way more talented than the last 3 finalists. I think he will be an international superstar.

I think the fact that Scotty won is a DIRECT RESULT of every 12 to 15 year old school girl in the nation called and texted over and over. He's like a teenie boppie heart throb. His talent, hmmmmm, it's good, but he won't be a superstar like James Derbin will. I tink Scotty's a fad that will pass as these pre-puberescent teens grow past him.

I have to disagree with a lot of the posts about James Durbin. He may make some music but probably with some 80's heavy metal band touring for the last time but with the heavy rock music that he wants to produce it just isn't going to fly these days. The winner of Idol is Scotty McCreery and he will be huge on the country music scene!!!!!

Yes, James was the best singer AND the best performer. Most of his performances had a "real concert" feel, it was easy to forget that he was singing in a talent show. Stage presence is important. He had the most versatile voice, singing Judas Priest, Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder equally spot on. Talented 'genre' singers are common, and America's fickle voting audience generally picks one of them to win it, though, instead of voting for the best overall performer. Internet marketing and image grooming have corrupted any purity left to the show. Don't be surprised to see Scotty toys in happy meals. lol. Steven Tyler was vastly entertaining, but lost his edge as a judge and became a fan of all of them by week 10. He may have thought he was being kind and benevolent, but was actually depriving them of valuable criticism and advice from a seasoned veteran and rock legend.

Metal music is too limiting and is on its way out. Country is also a limiting genre but has been around a long, long time. Scotty's career should have more durability than James'. Now if James would only broaden himself I would reverse my opinion because James really has more talent.

James was the most chasmatic prerformer on American Idol, and he showed it last night. Yes, he needs to boarden his music, and metal has gone by the wayside some years back. As I am typing this Alex Jones on PrisionPlant just played James Durbin Muse song. Rock on James Good Luck to Scotty & Lauren I hope all the American Idol Season 2011 find their place in music.

I think Scotty & Lauren should make an album together. They really do great when they sing duos. They also make a cute couple. James Durbin will go far, we haven't heard the last of him. Really enjoyed Steven Tyler & JLo being on Idol, they made the show this year. They are true entertainers & know what it takes to make it. They offered wise criticism without being destructive. Best Judges ever.

(Yawn.) Yet ANOTHER forgettable and semi-talented young male contestant "wins" the season.

Anyone remember the names of the guys who won the past two years? (I don't.) Anyone heard of any recent CD's they've released? Concerts they've given? (I haven't.)

In any case, Howdy Doody will undoubtedly release his first CD in a few months, and then, disappear, like the previous two year's "winners." (If he's lucky, he MIGHT get invited to peform at some state/county fairs after that.)

Didn't know it had become Country Idol all of a sudden. Sorry, but very dissappointed. James Durbin was not only the most talented but the most original as well. Thought we were picking a pop/rock star. Thought he fit the bill the best. I would buy one of his albums. Can't say that about the 2 country kiddies.

Throughout the "final 13" portion of the seson we witnessed a fiasco in the voting process. Yes, record votes were cast, but block voting by a single person, and the exessive influence of the "10-15 year old female demographic" who always vote for the cute young guy, regardless of talent and potential for success and longevity in the music business, creates a winner out of someone who should have left the stage at the number 6 or 5 spot. Clearly, James Durbin, Haley Rinehart, Pia Toscano, and Lauren Alaina will have greater careers and than the narrow-ranged Scotty. All-in-all, it was a great season, though. Chanegs in the show's judges, coashing of contestants, wardrobe managers, and supporting band all paid off, creating great buzz around the country and the best season yet, and securing AI's place on TV for at least another 5 years.

I can see the Alfred E. Newman references, but I kept thinking he looked like a young George W.; wide-eyed, country, baffled, and out of touch. He's clearly more of a tool bag than he is an artist. It's truly sad that this is America's pick.
