'Great Gatsby' finds its Tom BuchananBradley Cooper can stop lobbying for the part of Tom Buchanan in the upcoming 3-D adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby"—the role has officially been handed to Australian actor Joel Edgerton, according to Deadline. Though Edgerton is largely unknown to U.S. audiences (he starred in the critically acclaimed 2010 crime drama "Animal Kingdom" and will next be seen playing a mixed-martial-arts fighter in the upcoming "Warrior"), "Gatsby" director Baz Luhrmann believes he has exactly what it takes to play the cocky blueblood husband of Daisy Mulligan (Carey Mulligan). "In casting Tom, one had to find an actor who could credibly be (as Fitzgerald describes him) 'one of the most powerful ends that ever played football at New Haven,' had five-star acting chops, and in the big dramatic showdown scenes between Gatsby and Tom, hold the screen against Leonardo DiCaprio, in the appropriate age group," says Luhrmann. "Any wonder, it has been a long and thorough journey. The simple truth is that Joel came into our rehearsal space in New York and fulfilled all of the above criteria, and then some." Ben Affleck was originally being eyed for the role of Buchanan, but dropped out of the running because of a prior film commitment. |

Oprah is The Great Fatsby.
You mean Daisy Buchanan PLAYED by Carey Mulligan...
I don't understand why this movie is going to be in 3D.
Salinger would spin in his grave, especially when hollywood casts justin bieber as holden(which they would).
I feel like we don't need to see this type of film. It's a little strange that they would be putting it in 3d. How about a Catcher in the Rye film people!
