'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Is Kutcher on 'Two and a Half Men' a good move?

Ashton Kutcher is coming back to TV - as Charlie Sheen's replacement on CBS’ hit “Two and a Half Men.”

Ashton even teased his army of more than six million Twitter followers with this coy message: "what’s the square root of 6.25?” The answer is 2.5, as in “Two and a Half.”

I like Ashton Kutcher a lot, and I’m guessing he’ll be a success in the new role. He’s a great comic actor and has years of experience working on a very funny sitcom (“That ‘70s Show”). Still, I don’t know if Ashton’s the greatest fit. Hugh Grant, John Stamos and Jeremy Piven were all floated as possible replacements for Sheen on “Men.”

Hugh Grant actually almost wound up with the job. He’s another bad boy, like Sheen, and might have fit the mold of “Men” a little better. But maybe the show’s producers are looking for something new. What do you think about Ashton Kutcher replacing Charlie Sheen?

I also want to tell you that Nick Cannon’s breaking big news to us tonight. Mariah Carey’s husband is revealing the secrets behind the unusual names of the couple's newborn twins, Moroccan Scott and Monroe. Do not miss this headline-making "Showbiz" Newsmaker interview.

Other big stories we’re fired up about on the show today: Matthew Perry is returning to rehab and the great “American Idol” debate: Will a woman win it all?

Plus, with it being Friday and all, we’re naming "Showbiz Tonight’s" Most Provocative Celebrity of the Week. And the nominees are (drumroll, please): Pippa Middleton (for stealing the spotlight from her royal sister), Will Smith (the whole monster-movie-trailer-parked-in-New-York-City thing) and Lindsay Lohan (and her reduced jail sentence). Who do you think it should be? Vote here.

They should have cancel the show. We all know people can be replace, but they won't fit the shoes of the next person. Its like replacing
Oprah before her contract is up, it just isn't the same. This show has been on air for sometime. I've lost respect for cbs for making such a bold move. They made it very clear how cutt throat they are, for destroying a tv series last days. I can't imagine going to a store & witness two and a half man dvd last season betray. Karma is real, the Universe is watching.

This show has Jumped the Shark. I will not be back. Kutcher is not ready for this role. Bad move IMO.

DA !! Good move for Chalie Sheen...... This frees up time for Charlie to finally do his "Major League 3" film. This project alone will bring in hundreds of dollars.

Besides any women that started watching 2 1/2 because they like the looks of Charlie (which are now dimmed by drug use) will be happy to see a cute and fresh face Ashton. Aston is not too young and also appeals to older women (due to being married to someone 15 years older). Love the pick 2 1/2 ~ great job.

A few comments on the commentary: "Hugh Grant actually almost wound up with the job". Hugh Grant was offered the role BEFORE Ashton Kutcher and turned it down. He probably didn't want to commit to leaving England and having such a heavy schedule as a TV show.

As for Pippa, she did NOT steal the thunder from her sister Kate Middleton. I watched the entire Royal Wedding (thank God for TiVo) and Pippa was graceful and appropriate in her role with the wedding. This is just more unsubstantiated media crap.

As for Mariah Carey’s husband is revealing the secrets behind the unusual names of the twins, you can bet it has something to do with Mariah. She's the most narcissist singer imaginable. Narcissist, self-indulgent, the true meaning of the word "Me" in everything she does. Also, not to be mean spirited, but Mariah's only 42 years old and dresses like an over the hill lounge singer. She needs to be seriously revamped. As for Ashton Kutcher, if the scripts are good, I think he'll do a great job. He's full of energy and humor and should excel as Sheen's replacement. They may not even make him wear those tacky short sleeved shirts!

It looks like the show/writers will have to dumb it down to the 12 year old level. Ashton is definitely not an adult level actor. Check out his verbal 'freeze' in Vegas' and 'No Strings', when he tries to deliver dialog in a sincere manner. Maybe they should hire his twin brother for the acting and keep him for his 'tweeting'...

Dude... where's the laughter? I doubt you will find it with the new ensemble. This is not good news. Ashton is an average comedic actor. Honestly, I will watch the first show.. BUT I really do not think it is gonna work. Say what you want about Charlie, but he made the ensemble work. I'm thinking even using an electron scanning microscope, you will NOT be able to see the comedy or find the laughs in this new version of 2.5 Men. Have a better one. 🙂

How is this going to work? Didnt Charlie Sheen play the part of the older brother? Well for one Ashton is at least 20 yrs younger than Charlie. And younger than Jon Cryor as well. So much for the older brother theme. I just dont see it working. Plus Charlie and Ashton have 2 very different styles of comedy. Better off leaving the show off the air than try to refurbish it with something that just doesnt fit.
