Can you believe what happened on 'Idol?'

SPOILER ALERT – Tonight's "Idol" blog will reveal who is leaving the competition, so please don't read if you don't want to know.

I'm not ashamed to say I write this with tears in my eyes.

Tonight we lost a contestant with a whole lot of talent and a whole lot of heart.Wow. I really didn't see that one coming. What do we think happened?

Did the voters rebel over the judges' almost constant criticism of Haley and praise of James?

How do you go from riding so high to getting the boot this close to the finish line? Did James Durbin get a bum deal? I can't wait to read your thoughts.

Sound off!

Scotty and Lauren have "good Christian values?" Does that mean James and Haley don't? And, what exactly are "good Christian values?" Aren't we really confusing that concept with being from the south and talking with a southern drawl? And while we're at it, if there are "good Christian values"...might there be "bad Christian values" as well? And what might they be?

I think this is the worst season on this show- The three contestants on this show are so boring that no one will remember them this time next year- James Durbin a true performer and singer , you deserved to win my man !!! These guys that are left are soooooo boring and so is this show that should be called AMERICAS MIDOL ...................................RIGGED

Haley didn't sing- she screams & should be doing pole dancing & singing in a club in Vegas. So full of herself & stuck up, She was smiling when James was crying.
There was a paragraph in the National Enquirer that got me thinking check page 7 at the bottom of issue May 9th. Wonder who they were talking about- had to be a guy for only two was left before this issue. I heard it was James – he thought he had it made.
By the way, Scotty has never been in the last three- Ryan said that week before last. When the group is small they call in no random order. Haley has been in bottom three several times. But James & Scotty been always in top. Lauran was a random last place once but some one has to stand in last spot to make the proper choice.
There is more behind then then the people see on TV.
I like Scotty & Lauran they are young but humble & both have nice up bringing in small towns. They will go far in life.
James is not my type of singer & he didn't take it like a man. He will get a contract, I got tired of that piece of cloth handing out of pants pocket every week.
Every thing happens for a reason – as my husband say, "its only a TV show." If you are good a miracle will happen.
But Haley should be wearing her shorts strutting down the Vegas strip using the loud voice & growl to attract men.

Too many 12 and 13 year old girls with cell phones voting for Scotty despite his being a one trick pony. James couldn't overcome that.

I feel that James was good BUT he was showcased too much and was too into himself. For example, James started Wednesday's show in the number 1 position. That means he should have performed his second song in the number 5 position. All of a sudden, Ryan announces there has been a change and the order is changed and James performs his second song last. That means he now has performed in the 2 best slots–first and last. Why was the change made–to showcase James. He needs to be a little more humble, he was always telling how great he was and the things he did. America I'm sure could see these things for themselves and don't need James to remind everyone of his talents. He is the only one I remember using pyrotechnics and getting all the breaks. If anyone is to blame for James leaving it is Randy Jackson and the producers who crammed James down everyone's throat. As for Scotty, he is polite, respectful and has a great voice. The girls are okay, but both need a wake-up call on manners. I hope Scotty wins–it is time for a gentleman to be showcased.

Here's the thing - there's no way to know that this was actually a voter decision, since the producers can overrule the votes. Such a lack of transparency is bound to create distrust, distrust leads to discontent, and discontent will eventually cost them. I for one have lost interest in this season now, no offense meant to the remaining contestants, who are very talented. I mean really - three upsets in one season? Let us see the actual numbers. Take note producers - you should come clean now while the show is on top.

I completely disagree with this decision.. Scotty belongs on Nashville star and that carrie underwood wannabe is also too country for American Idol. I hope Haley wins it.. she seem to be the only one who has her own style. American Idol sucks squirrel nuts.

I'm 50+ and I have an all-around seasoned enjoyment in music. I was not interested in American Idol, only my teen daughter has enjoyed it for years. But this season truly intrigued me. Jennifer Lopez said it the other night, "James, you can sing ANYTHING!" sooooo TRUE!. James has (natural) stage presence and he could sing any note with the greatest smoothness and change his pitch without flaw. He has a special gift and he will be rewarded; first by his hometown
friends and fans on Saturday by the city honoring him. How great is that!. People from around the world are even in shock by the voting results. James is already on top.

I do not care for either of the female contestants but I think the show wants a female winner after so many years of guys winning. I think Scotty is the only one left that deserves to win. He will make it big in Nashville regardless. He will be the next Carrie Underwood.

The bottom of the top twelve singers are the top three left to vote for. No need to watch future eposides. Popularity has won over talent. Why not limit votes to 10 per houselhold?

I have been watching the websites that predict the winners and Scotty has been at the top all season. People who like country (and that's a large segment of the country) just love him. James has been toward the middle or below most of the season. Metal has a much smaller fan base. By the way, I am a Scotty voter and I am definitely not a Christian consertive so quit trying to make this about religion or politics. Its about music and who has the biggest fan base.

There is no way james should have gone home til the end and then winner. to be american idol you need to be complete. not just a blues or country singer. scottie is good at mixing it up but the girls are blues and country only. wanted both of them off early to middle.
james is off because people thought he was safe because he is the american idol. i will not watch til the ending and only to see him then turn off. can't wait for his music to be released to buy it. amercia idol isn't the american idol. they need to revamp so that best does win.

James was a poor man's Madam Lambert. At least Lambert sang true pitches 99.9% of the time. James' intonation was often precarious at best. He was an exciting and excited kid, but an inferior vocalist to the much maligned Hailey.

SIMPLY...I began watching the show when a friend told me how great James was and I am not sticking around for the final3. It is like watching a rerun with them. They don't do anything different. Just BORING!! This could down as one of the worst Idol finales ever. That would take a lot considering last year. The only bright spot last year was Bret Michaels showing up....The greatest Finale was with Adam Lambert, him performing with Kiss and Queen was priceless. James could have bought that same energy to the show's finale.

72 million votes = 72 million morons with no music taste. All the best have gone. James was destined to win and you should be all ashamed of yourselves. You kept a overweight no voice no movement would be singer Lauren who spends most of her time crying and trying to be so righteous, a hapless talent at best Hailey and just an ok country boy Scotty. I will not watch the end of this because I really don't care now. I would not spend a dime on any of them. You obviously have no clue on how to vote it should be left to professional judges.

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED? Were people snoozing or confused how to call in your votes? Were we watching the same channel? I don't know why the bottom 2 out of the 3 are still there. Lauren, although good – toooo immature and not enough experience. Hailey – has no stage presence, inconsistent and to get a good song out of her it seems she needs to be given negative feedback to light that fire in her. Scott – love his voice and he should win given that is the only obvious choice we have but voting James off the show BIG MISTAKE he made the show worth while. He should have won! I think I'll be boycotting the finale...who cares at this point!

Some say Hayley is a spoiled sport, but look at everyone here; aren't we all spoiled sports because James or another favorite went home? I am heartbroken over losing James, but have to recognize the voting system isn't really about talent; and there isn't one right style; it's about who is popular and a good entertainer, and who buys the music. I can't blame Hayley for talking back to the judges after she'd been picked on so badly; and even James had to comment.
I don't blame either of them. Are they supposed to be voiceless robots? So, now who will we support.? It will be interesting to see how many votes there are in the final weeks. By the way, talking about pitchy– Have you ever been on stage with a mic and an earpiece and all the other nosie, and tried to hear your pitch? It isn't easy. Anyway, James will have a great career. He should be very proud of himself.

I am very upset. I feel that James was cheated. He was consistently good. The judges consistently praised him week after week. I voted for James over 100 times (and only him). I do not understand why America gave him the boot. I did hear someone on the local radio station say that they had an issue with dialing James's second number. They kept getting a substance abuse hotline or something. They were told that their phone number kept getting crossed with James's number. If that is the case- there needs to be a recount.

Why is it that James gets all the pyrotechnics and effects and others don't have anything? And praise but never mention of him being off pitch to the point of breaking ear drums? Why is it that Scotty is consistently praised but never roams out of his comfort zone? Why is it that Haley, who takes chances, stretches, and sings ON KEY every week – get such hate? I see no reason to watch the remaining shows. As usual, the teenyboppers are AFRAID to go with a rocker, it was just a matter of time before the non rockers got to be a small enough number that they can win. I was hoping that with Stephen as a judge, the show could turn, especially when the most talented one was a rocker, but... And, I was REALLY looking forward to James and Stephen singing together in the finale.

It was great while it lasted! James, KEEP ON ROCKIN! As in life – it isn't always fair and the best doesn't win... πŸ™

Someone please explain to me why Scotty is in he final 3 (let alone the final 10) - he is just NOT that good. His second performance of this week was laughable. The young people of America who are voting have apparently lost their collective minds. By the way, I personally don't think ANY of the final five this season were all that great. Oh well, another crappy season.

I for one am rather disapointed. However it being a close call I still think that if anyone that should have been booted it should have been Haley. I mean common America, she frankly Karaoked her way through Michael Jacksons song. I think Americans got rid of a really talented person. He not only could sing anything, but look how he performed with Scotty. I think America messed it up. I really think the three that should have moved on was James, Scotty, and Lauren. It does not matter though. I feel we will not be seeing the last of Mr. Durbin. I will indeed buy his albums. As for the rest I wish them the best. Idol just lost my votes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not be wasting another two nights a week from here on out. This is the first, and was the last idol I will watch, and vote on. I think next week it will be surprising to me if Idol will even have 50 million votes. Signed, Disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am very, very upset that James was voted off and do not understand how it happened. He was very talented. He consistently performed well with the exception of one performance whereas Haley has not. She has had some good performances for sure but some poor ones as well. I agreed with the judges that she screamed for most of the Michael Jackson song, a song that is very beautiful when done well. James- you have a lot of supporters out here who wish the outcome was different but I hope you will keep moving forward. Your story is beautiful and you have overcome so much. KEEP GOING! It's a real shame that American Idol FINALLY got a team of judges who work well together, know what they're doing and it looked like the show had a chance of going on for a few more years, but the producers of the show don't have a clue on how the voting should be done.

The problem is that instead of voting for who you want to STAY on the show, voting should be for who you want OFF the show... ELIMINATE the people who shouldn't be there... If they did that, the vote would be TOTALLY different (of course they wouldn't get 70 million votes every week and their profits would drop – but snce $$$ is ONLY thing that really matters – that will NEVER happen...)

Well – here's my vote – "So long American Idol"

All 4 of the contestants last night have more musical ability than most but as happened last night and any show based upon popular vote, the winner is the most POULAR and NOT the most TALENTED. In my opinion, even though Scotty is a nice guy with a q voice, he is always in a very narrow range where Haley, James and Lauren show greater range and in my opinion a greater level of talent generally. God Bless will do well I am sure of it. I bet you have a contract before the week is over. Now, Haley, you go girl.

have become a huge fan of American Idol b/c love watching talented singers perform, develop and grow as artists before our eyes – whole process is pretty cool. But last couple of years have become disenchanted with the America voting format – Adam Lambert did not deserve to lose, Crystal should have won last year, Daughtry, and now three of the best singers: Pia, James, Jacob were voted off prematurely. Lauren, Scotty and Hailey all have great voices, but don't think they have performed better than James,Pia and Jacob. Just on merit, Hailey should have gone home (although I say that as a fan b/c I will buy her music on iTunes)

Did anyone catch it Wednesday night when Randy said something like hey pay attention this is the week when Daughtry was cut. Sounded like they knew something. Haley is TERRIBLE. She screams constantly. Not very interested in who is left so I won't be watching next week. Same thing for DWTS – why is Kirstie still there? Ratings? However, American Idol is all about the pop or country star – not a rocker. To James – go knowing you were the best and you will go far. With the exception of the hugely talented Carrie Underwood, file the rest of these with the other winners who didn't do anything after Idol. I can't even remember most of their names.....

This has to be rigged, especially if Simon Fuller all of a sudden becomes James manager. The winner only has to sign a one year contract and then they can sign on with anyone they want. Same thing happened to Adam Lambert and guess who his manager is? Simon Fuller.

I liked James, and was surprised he went...
That being said, I wish people would stop whining about the voting being messed up because of the order. They mentioned several times during the show what phone numbers were tied to what singer. Several Times!!! They even said to pay attention because the order was getting changed up and to pay attention so you are voting for the right person. If after all that you still end up voting for the wrong person.... You have nobody to blame but yourself. (and the millions of other people who also didn't pay attention)

THE MORONS at American Idol are to blame. All polls everywhere – where you vote ONCE AND DONE – had James far ahead of the rest. But AI, for the sake of that one liner from Seacrest – "Tonight we had a unprecidented X Million number of votes" – allow the freaking idiot kids that have nothing to do to push REDIAL on their cell phones (that in my humble opinion, they don't need in the first place – I managed to grow up without them!) and hence we get an "upset" – sounds like the same thing as Adam Lambert.
This is "wonderful" I say sarcastically the day before they are going to sell tickets for the tour. Well GOODBYE AI. I'm not watching one more show -because I don't care who you have for contestants, judges, whatever. It's not just about James, It's about how they are not running this fairly. See ya!! Have a nice fall to the bottom.
James will have a career and do fine, I'm not so sure about American Idol. I think their luck ran out last night.

I don't really watch this show, but I have been tortured on two different occasions while out with friends. I think the point of the show is that they can make just about anyone a star if just for a moment and talent is only part of the equation. I did see a few performances from James. I was not impressed by any of them. His whole "look I can cry on cue and be overly emotional" play did not work for me. If you sing well enough, you don't have to tell me about the emotion you were trying to get across. Definitely over emphasized his soft side. How is that rock? That's not even Glam He is a performer more than a singer and I'm sure that they will make him main stream. It's probably better for him not to be the winner anyway. How many of the former winners have had and still have actual success?? Good luck to all of them.

Haley is the most unique person that they've had on American Idol in a long time. Sympathy votes? I dont think most people would waste their time with Sympathy votes. James did the same thing week after week and it was starting to get old. Even when he was off key the judges would praise him. Haley sang a song that was straight from her heart...after all they did tell her to sing a song that "moved her" and she was criticized for it. She has been singing different genres and types of songs since the beginning and is able to adapt to anything. I think America got it right by voting James off. He'll be fine, he's going to do exactly what Daughtry did and get an amazing record deal. Now...Scotty is next because he's got those creepy looks he gives the camera. Eek.

People, its a reality show. Reality is that people have there favorites. James is predictable, everything was the same, In sound. America got tired of it. Haley showed progression. Pia was consistently being safe. etc. And how many of us said we are not going to watch american idol anymore, but still watch the next season. It's not fixed. Somebody has to go home. And I love all type of music, and right now Heavy Metal / Hard Rock is not in the Mainstream...

Who cares if someone's not as good and shows progression every week while someone else starts out great and doesn't change? (You almost make it sound like it's better to stink a little and get better versus be above the rest since the beginning and then have a slip or two). People shouldn't be voting based off who's improving and who's staying the same.

It was time for Haley to go home...although her raspy voice and all can be awesome, i feel as though she is almost trying too hard. Screaming and to me now at times it sounds like her nose is plugged up or too nasaly. American didn't vote for Adam L to win either. James will be fine. He will be signed to a contract and go one and make himself a celebrity. I don't think America always like his emotional side either. Yes, he has problems, but sometimes I thought it was just a little too much as far as expressing his emotional side.

James is great, and would have made a great winner, but he had kind of a bad night, no matter what the judges said. I'm just hoping that Scotty does not win.

All of them are talented. Take out singing style(which nobody agrees on) and focus should be on 3 things 1) James was never in bottom group as the others have been. 2) James was the only consistent singer. 3) James' stage performances were always the best. This all means he should have won. However this kind of thing has happened many times on AI (DAUGHTERY) and none of us should expect the real winner to actually win. Anybody thinking RIGGED???

I really don't care to watch the show anymore. I don't feel that Haley is deserving. I just know that James should have a great career and I will buy whatever he puts out. Look at Daughtry. Agree. With The Voice getting popular by the week and Simon's show coming up, we wil have another venue for undiscovered talent. Frenchie Davis, who was a former Idol contestant, is in the finals on The Voice. Idol is corny and is becoming a venue for young country artists. Boring indeed.

The problem with James is that he didn't define himself. What type of record would he make? 80s metal hair bands are not popular anymore – but at least he stuck to his guns in the beginning. Lately he's been singing everything from a karaokee version of Journey all the way to Muse. So where does he stand? At least you know what to expect from the other 3. I think that was the main problem; he was very talented but didn't have a defined POV.

Well....first off, Scotty should have gone. Haley has the best voice in the group but what ever at this point. What needs to happen is how contestants are voted off should change. We should have america vote the bottom 3 and let them all perform again and then the judges can thin the herd–kind of like "So you think you can dance". Leaving it up to America invites a popularity contest rather than a talent contest. I'm just saying.....

She was always ripping Haley apart and just gushing over James non stop. He was never perfect – he also made mistakes but to listen the J-Lo he was spot on all the time. When the judges focus on one person and sing their praises over and over again it's almost like putting a target on them. Happened with Pia too. And come on Love potion number nine that was the lamest song choice ever and if Haley had picked it J-Lo would have torn her apart.

I am a Scotty fan all the way!!! I love his country voice and the way he carries himself when he preforms, he was born to sing! I also like Lauren too, just not sure if she is strong enough for the music industry, same goes for Hailey. They both have beautiful voices though. As for James, I am not a big fan of some of the music he sings or his voice (sometimes) , but he is a good preformer! I think the reason I did like him is because he has Tourette syndrome and Asperger's syndrome, but fights past it and can still put on a show! He does not realize how much of an ispiration he has been to others around the world with these same issues. I say congrats to him for making it this far, but I dont think we ahev seen the last of him. With that being said there are many people in here that say Hailey was rude, well if I was told to sing a song that was insirational to me and then was told i chose the wrong song!? There was no wrong song choice, they said "chose one thats inspirational to you"!!!!! Hailey did good, just doesnt give it her all and needs to step it up a notch!! Now to Lauren, she is cute and has a great voice but just doesnt give it her all, if she would give it her all she could really get on up there on some of those notes. She is afraid to and that shows that she is not ready for the full blown music world, but I believe she will be one day and she will make it big! Last but certainly not least is Scotty, I have loved him since his audition!!! He has the kind of country voice that you dont hear now days. He is inot the older country (Conway Twitty, ect.....) I think he could really bring some great songs to the world and get country back to the way it use to be. Now days country isnt country its a mix of country and pop and thats not country music! Come on Scotty bring us back some music like from to good ole days!!!! (Conway Twitty, Keith Whitley, Doug Stone, John Anderson) Vote For Scotty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =)

James, Haley, Casey were and are the best all season long with Haley and Casey having the most versatility and talent as singers, James is the only one that can hit the hardest notes although and was the best showman. How in the hell Scotty is still here baffles me! He has no talent whatsoever, it just goes to prove that 10 year old girls determine who wins on this show. Scotty is straight up garbage and Lauren has no versatility, she sounds the same always and takes no chances. I really believe the top 2 should have been Haley and James.

Here's something interesting. I tried voting for James after the show on Wednesday and could only get through about one in 5 tries, however, I was able to easily get through using Haley's number. This went on for 1.5 hours before I stopped dialing (east coast btw). I thought sure people were pounding Jame's number and he would be safe. I wonder how many votes he lost from having clogged lines.

James was ridiculously bad and the only time that he could sing 'in-tune' was if he was yelling at the top of his lungs. He had absolutely no finesse in any other part of his range and he cried at just about everything. It's about time.

James was the only reason I kept watching so I'm done with Idol. The last few winners have all been wonder bread so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that James was voted off. I told my friend that with the judges being so harsh on Hailey that there might be a sympathy backlash and Lauren would suffer for it. Boy was I wrong.

    I'm buying James' first album (P.S. I'm over 50).

The Voice has more talented singers anyway-that little Vicci girl rocks it.

The error is in the voting regulation / there needs to be a ceiling put on the voting, it allows these little kids w/ there little crushes to vote on the less talented artist.
Vocally / performance wise..............JAMES brought an AURA to the stage that none of the artist left can touch or match. I heard a fan say the other night he voted for two hours straight (non stop)now in my calculations this is about a total of 3000 votes from one fan. So this hurts the truly deserving artist that should be there and win. American Idol needs to revise it's voting regulation. As for James............this is just the beginning, just as the Phonenix rose from it's ashes, James will too. I too intend to boycott Idol........UNLESS it will revise it's voting regulations. James I pray God's Grace and Speed go with you for bigger and better things beyond the phony tinsel of Idol............. God Bless / Susan

I do agree that James should have not been voted off. Haley should have gone home. She just screams into the mike. I also notice she rolls her eyes when she gets a bad review. Yes, Scotty is country, so if you do not love country, you may not enjoy him. But as a young country singer, who is learning the ropes, he is very very good.

I like Hailey, but I did expect her to go home. For those of you who said it's "rigged" – PLEASE do your research before you accuse the shows. There is a site called "Vote For The Worst". THEY are the ones manipulating the votes (i.e., getting Pia sent home) – THEY need to be sued and charged with malicious manipulation. So if you really want to blame anyone, raise a roucous across the web to get that site shut down or sued. Only then will the show's voting be improved.

Has anyone considered that the changing of performance order screwed up the voting? American Idol itself got it wrong by allowing confusion. James ended the show with Love Potion No. 9, but if you voted for Contestant Four, you were voting for Lauren. Haley started round two, and by not voting for her as Contestant One, you didn't vote for James. The phone message does nothing to end this confusion because it only says, "Thank you for Voting for Contestant..." Based on online polls, 51% thought Haley should have gone home, and 31% (highest rating) thought James was the best of the night. I'm convinced the final results are bogus.

James and Pia will do just fine, the only idol winner that has become a super star is Carrie Underwood so winning can be a curse for the artist. I never, not once, enjoyed a James Durbin performance. Every time he sang, I found myself wishing it was Adam Lambert performing the song instead. Every week, I scoffed at the overwhelmingly positive comments from the judges. During each of his performances, I thought to myself "Ok, THIS will be the one where they don't give him unwarranted praise," but it never happened.

I, for one, am glad to see him go home. The remaining contestants are truly talented and I look forward to seeing who wins.

I actually think this is a good thing. James can pick up a record deal (and he will) but not be confined to the constraints of American Idol contract and be obligated to sing some whack song. Look at past contestants Kris Daugtry, Adam Lambert who are all doing great! however they did not win. I also think Haley deserves to be in the top 3, not so sure about Lauren who can really sing but so young. Scotty is quirky but the guy can sing!

So, I do think America got it wrong, they actually did a good thing for James and his family. He'll be able to provide for them and more! Go James! And go Haley!

The most talented singers are gone but the best mix of personality/performing/singing are still left. James just doesn't have a unique voice or really good looks to carry him and sorry everyone he will not be a huge star. I see one album maybe and then nothing. America did indeed screw up big time. On a positive note, when one of the obnoxious hillbillies finally wins (Hayley will go next week), we won't have to see him/her ever again. They will sing at county fairs and weddings and disappear into the hay bales. James however, probably got a recording contract on the spot last night and will be heard from for a long time to come. Case in point: Adam Lambert vs, what was his name?

Idol needs to have a brand new voting system. One vote per phone number or e-mail address!!! 200 hometown hillbillies pressing re-dial until the time runs out can do an awful lot of skewing, as we just, sadly, saw. IDOL: you need to fix this and make it FAIR!

  176. Well

Haley has the best talent left and she had been unfairly picked on and singled out (even other former AND a present contestant started saying as much).

Note that when they previewed home town week they had footage planned and taken way back when from the other three but nothing to show for her but her yellow banner at the tryout and nothing from her home. And on the say hello to home computer stuff they cut all but two seconds of her out and showed everyone else for minutes. It seemed like they thought they had her out!

Scotty seems the most boring and corny to me but it seems he has a crazy strong fan base so I guess he wasn't going anywhere.

Lauren's votes probably got scared last week and voted like crazy.

James voters maybe got complacent, sure that Haley her talked herself gone after the judges whatever to her finally got to her (and Randy on mic the other week getting caught saying he was NOT rooting for her and then laughing with JLo which she may have even overheard and thus the so upset the last two weeks) and maybe his so many missed notes on some recent performances cost him some fervor from some fans too??

Steven Tyler had some interesting things to say on his eonline interview on 5/12.

Come on people, AI is watched by all age groups, not just our little pool of tech bloggers. Many who watch AI have access to phones than internet blogging sites. The majority made their choice. James is a good entertainer, but we have to admit that over the past weeks he has sung off tune, which has been repeatedly over shadowed by the positive emotion he gives during his performance. Hayley has had her ups & downs, but her ups have been exceptional. Scottie has an appeal that still surprises everyone-he is the most natural entertainer of the last 4ontestants. For me Lauren has averaged it out througout the series as she has never given a wow performance.

OK, after reading all these posts, here's my take on things...
    1. Canada IS part of America (North America to be exact), just isn't part of the United States
    2. I prefer to listen to Country Music, or classic/softer rock. I may not listen to Metal or Hard Rock, but I do believe James was definately the best of the last 4, and should have won it all. I personally believe he had great vocal ability, and really enjoyed the "mini-show" he would put on every week instead of just standing in front of the microphone and singing flat-footed.
    3. Those who say it's only about the voice, and not talent, then explain how Lady Gaga became such an overnight sensation. Simply put, she has a decent voice, but it's the flair for dramatics that really made her famous.
    4. The voting system in AI is truly messed up. When a teenage girl can run up her dad's phone bill to text a vote for "Scotty the Hottie" a hundred times in an hour simply because he is cute... Our young guy voting for Haley because she is cute... skews the results. There should be some control severely limiting how many votes a person should have.
    5. I enjoy American Idol, and will likely watch future seasons, but I am done with season. All the best talent has been voted off...

It's probably because of that report that came out earlier in the season about young female voters only voting for male singers and voting off the female singers. So, in response to that, the American Idol CEO decided to do away with the top male singer to throw a kink in the show and to offset all those female votes. And besides, who says that your votes count? It's like having the Electoral College submit their votes according to the majority of their state – they are "supposed" to vote for what the majority voted for, but they can vote however they want. However, they may not be re-elected, but the fact of the matter is, do we REALLY control how things are run when we vote? There's always someone behind the curtain who is pulling strings. And when it comes to TV ratings, any sponsor or company will do anything to get more chatter, which equals more money.

It should have been Lauren and James in the finale. I don't need to watch anymore, this is now a kiddy show as 2 contestants haven't even reached 18 yet.

Wow, a lot of you people must listen to some $#!++y singers if you think James is good. Sure, he's talented as a performer, but the screaming does get old. I can see him having a fruitful career, but only if he cuts down the unnecessary ear-piercing noise.

American Idol is strictly an entertainment show. Winners are supposedly chosen due to talent however the right person will never be chosen regardless of how it is judged simply because everyone has their favourite whether it be a relative or friend that is performing or just someone you like. Enjoy the show for what it is worth in that it gives us an opportunity to hear some new young talent which we would never have heard if not for American Idol. Same thing used to happen on Star search for those who can remember back that far. Although I too have a favourite I have enjoyed listening to everyone of the contestants as I think they like many others who aspire to be singers have a had a shot at becoming a singer/performer. Losing does not mean giving up but gives you the exposure to make something of yourself. Congratulations to all the contestants and I llok forward to next years entertainment. It is s a real pity that so many people have such negative thoughts instead of looking on the bright side for these kids. Great job done by all the contestants as you are all winners

I wonder how many of you would be clamoring to have the voting rules changed if your favorite wasn't voted out tonight? All of this crying and whining tells me that a lot of you James supporters are very sore losers. You should have voted more. Everyone has their opinion on the contestants... but at the end, if you want your fav. to stay, VOTE MORE. Incidentally, I think Lauren is far more talented than the others including James. They are all talented, but my own OPINION is that Lauren is the best. Does that make me stupid? Anyone who answers that with a yes is, in fact, the real idiot. Do you look at people who have different favorite colors or movies or books as you and call them names? The only people who "got it wrong" tonight were the people who didn't vote enough to keep their favorite in. By this time we all should know the likelihood of this kind of "shocker" – there isn't any excuse if you don't vote your brains out. And, even if you do vote your brains out and your favorite leaves? Well, then your favorite was simply outvoted. But I guarantee if Lauren or Haley were voted out tonight, a bunch of you complaining about how unfair it is would be singing a very different tune. Your singer is gone. Deal with it. Just as I dealt with it on the nights that my favorite was ousted in years past. I still think Danny Gokey was probably the best singer perhaps in ALL idol series. That's just my opinion. But I didn't cry about it.

After the greater injustice of Pia Toscano being eliminated in the 9th spot I am not surprised or upset about any of the others. Nigel Lythgoe's corrupted voting system that is set up to profit AT&T created a truly regrettable voting mess this year.

No regrets about Scotty McCreery being in the remaining group. He has been solid all season long. He would make a credible and deserving American Idol.

I legit cannot believe that so many people actually thought james was THAT good of an artist. I was under the confident impression that the only reason he was still on Idol is because America is so brainwashed by the judges blind comments about how wonderful he is (even on the weeks he is so bad he wouldn't make it in a karaoke bar). If you want someone who sings offtune, screeches, and is so full of himself it makes you gag, then lets hope he cuts a record deal. I on the other hand, hope he doesnt.

It's important to remember that American Idol's core audience is mostly Evangelical Christians. Scotty kissed his cross and made it to the finals. James Durbin embraced Lady Gaga and got voted off. Duh. Either Scotty or Lauren, both country singers, will win.

Lauren needs to go ... not nearly mature enough emotionally to be an Idol ... she cries at every bit of slight criticism. When things go well she is all giggles and goofy. Otherwise, she can't stand up to a whisper. Haley has the guts, strength, talent and looks to be the Idol.

WILL......Your remarks about Lauren are wrong. Yeah, she is only 16, but has way more natural talent than the others. Why did IDOL start auditions at 15 if they didn't want immaturity? This show is about talent...singing...and showman ship.
I think she has come a long way in her performaces, and with the right quides she will do just fine for her age. Stop all the bad mouthing!

It was one of those nights when anyone could have gone home. There really was no obvious choice. I don't think people should hate on Haley. it's not her fault. Haley did a very solid job on her songs. I don't know what kind of koolaid Randy and JLo were drinking when they listened to her first song. The way she sang MJ's song was the way he sang it: with passion. It's the kind of song you have to sing that way. It's supposed to wake people up and get them to care. I like James, but he was noticeably flat on his Journey song. He did better on Love Potion Number 9.

I thought James was gonna take the whole thing until last week. Than this week his is great but there were other fantastic performances. James was the weakest of the four. Haley and Lauren were def the two strongest in my opinion. Lauren will win it all easily. That's all I have to say about that. :0P

Tough result. Scotty is such a poser and is way out of his league but I have a feeling the red states will vote him through to the end. It just shows what a joke this show has become...among all the people who tried out for the show we're left with two redneck crooners and a Chicago hottie. Casey and James were the only ones with talent so it just isn't worth watching. After Scotty wins he will be as popular as Chris Allen (who is that?)

I can only hope that Scotty goes home before the finale because he and James will do so much better on their own and not under some contract from AI. Laura Alaina deserves to win at this point because she needs the contract with AI to make it! The best AI has introduced is Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert and Now, James Durbin!!! ROCK ON JAMES!!!! I love your talent and voice!

The fact is that at this point I hate to see any of them go home. Kudos to James for letting it all hang out week after week after week. it was nice to see him go from traumatized to performer in a short number of weeks. All of the final four have improved over the past several weeks. I've enjoyed this year more than past years, and would have loved to have seen James in the final two, but hey, seventy plus million folks can't be silenced. My music tastes vary and all four (now three) finalists sang tunes that appealed to me. Scotty was playful, James rocked it, and the girls were hot. Scotty is just too much of the same for me. I do like some country, but too much is too much.

Lauren has a very nice voice but I think she has a few years before she and her voice can mature.

Haley I like the best to win out of the top 3 left. I love bluesy music and she's got the voice for it plus a lot more.

James was destined to win it all because he had "it" and the thought of Haley going forward ahead of him is an outrage. She's out of her league and always seem desperate. The judges should be promoting the ones with actual American mainstream talent instead of feeling sorry for someone without it and encouraging the audience to vote for her. Howdy-doody Scotty is a one-note twangy bore and is going to disappear into the country music industry side show of no-talents and will never be an "Idol" for mainstream America. We sincerely lost what I believe is the true American Idol. James was also a underdog that inspired us all. I'm sure he will do fine in his career, Jennifer Hudson should give him a call. James was...all about James, nothing else. His lack of tact and lack of modesty did him in. Ever notice how, unlike the other contestants, Ryan could never reel him in after his performances? Ryan would be trying to keep the performances balanced...a round of applause and then Ryan takes center stage to direct attention to the judges. James never respected that and while ignoring Ryan would continue to work the audience. This...was simple disrespect for both Ryan, and the other contestants who did not rely on shenanigans.

It also didn't help that James ALWAYS talked about how well he did, how good his performances if no one else was participating. Again, a little bit of modesty could...go a long way.

His fake crying scene last week really changed the course of events for him. No one else needs to hear a self pity plea and none of the other contestants are into that.

His performances always seemed to rely on glamor over quality voice. We've seen these contestants each year that rely on their signature "scream" in their vocals and they eventually turn it into overkill. James turned his weekly scream into overkill. Consequently, this will do Haley in as well.

Scotty is light years over the others in terms of musical sophistication and maturity. It's as if he should have been in Nashville 10 years ago. Next to Scotty, James was resorting to the glamor you mentioned above just to be able to stand in Scotty's shadow.

For sure James has the most talent of the final 4 – it's too bad, but America just doesn't get someone a little different. They want the "All American Apple Pie" – Lauren is too young – Haley is good – Scotty is good and squeaky clean – he'll probably win. But, who really cares – I didn't vote, I won't buy their music and I won't go to any concerts. I'm starting to think that Voice is better because they have very talented singers from the start – going through all those horrible auditions is just getting to be old – I like the post Idol, should be Idle. how true. snooze.

I'm glad American Idol gives the rest of us, real music lovers, a chance to listen and watch new talent, but this is it for me and my family now.

I couldn't agree more! Adam was AMAZING! Not only was Adam Lambert a great performer, but a great SINGER! James just wasn't. Sorry! Half the time he was shouting the songs, and then screeching the rest of the time. He had a few good performances, and yes he seems to be a truly sweet and amazing person with so much heart, but he was not the best of the top 13. I admire him for what he has been through and how he has conquered, but I got so tired of hearing him scream instead of sing, and his last few songs have not been all that good. Casey was my favorite out of everyone with Scotty being my 2nd fave, and Lauren my 3rd. Haley can have some amazing songs, but she can also have some pretty bad ones to match. For all of you dissing on Scotty, alot of it probably has to do with the fact that you don't like country music. I have always sort of liked it, but I love hearing him sing, and he is fun to watch sometimes too, like his 2nd song last night. I would definitely pay to see his concert. I think it is going to come down to a country show down between Scotty and Lauren, and it will be a first on Idol! I am all for it! Not very cool for all of you to trash some very talented young people just because your fave didn't make it. Grow up. They are all very talented, and James will be fine regardless, I don't think he is anywhere near in the same league as Daughtry, not even close, but sure he will do OK, and we know he did his family proud! At this point, anyone voted off (or not voted to stay on, as it were) is someone who had the potential to win it the whole thing. Its been that way for 4 weeks now. James, despite not winning AI10 will have a Daughtry like career as front man of a band that will release hits. He doesn't have to win Idol for that to happen now. Haley's rendition of "I Who Have Nothing" was near flawless. She proved she belonged in the top three as mush as any of the other three. From here on out, its a crap shoot. American Idol is a juggernaut that will never die. Every year, - then, every week as they get later into the final few- all these blogs contain comments from morons saying – "American Idol is done." "American Idol is rigged." On and on... Yet, it continuously remains, despite all the knock offs- by far, the number 1 show on television– now 8 years straight. And it's MORE than proven its legitimacy. Get over it, people. James is talented, but he's gone. The show's not fixed- you just didn't vote for him enough.

To me, Haley Reinhart is the best the show's had since Jordin Sparks (who was on tonight)- and ranks right up there with Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, the most successful 2 in the show's history.

True, Durbin's got similarity to Daughtry and I wish him similar success from this 4th place finish.

But, Haley is amazing– and, in my opinion, should and WILL be your next American Idol. Her range is beyond compare. Her stage presence is beyond belief. The way she could make you feel she's singing directly to you is mind boggling. So many have fallen in love with her for that reason- including me.

And, no matter what any of you (James related) heartbroken people are saying– Haley will be your next American Idol and you WILL be watchin' when it happens.

    Absolutely RIDICULOUS.

As I had already known from Day One, the two most disgustingly overrated (Haley and Lauren) made it to the Top 3. And as I already could assume, the reason why those two were spun so much by the producers is that there's huge money to be made in teeny/tweeny pop these days (and as an antecedent, a long line of big name record producers waiting to shell out top dollar for the next "Taylor Swift", "Kelly Clarkson", etc.). Judging by the Top 3, it's easy to see which demographic voted for them the most. But you have to figure out by now that there was some sort of manipulation going on behind the scenes.

For what it's worth, I thought James deserved the most to be in the Top 3. He was definitely robbed, and I hope the future has great things in store for him.

And I think the Final Two showdown will be between Lauren and Scotty.

Sad, sad, sad. James gave his heart and soul to his performances...
All of the performers have talent, Scotty has country nailed and will have a great career, James brought the harder edge and showmanship to idol which was great, haley has a great voice but hasn't quite found her style, lauren not sure, good voice but a long way to go to become a artist and a top talent,
James knew who he was and what he was all about. Lauren and Haley are still looking and probably should not have gone on, they weren't there yet.
The real crime this season are the judges promoting themselves via commercials (Randy-Walmart, Steven video and magazine covers, Jennifer video, live performance, magazine covers, etc...) Steven and Randy, really gave encouragement to the contestants, but Jennifer kind words were very hard for her. I am done with Idol, I will get the final results online. tonight was the final straw of the judges promoting themselves. The show should be about the contestants not the judges...

Gah I don't see how the heck Scotty lasted even this long. The guy can basically carry a tune, but his range of songs is very narrow, and he has zero charisma, zero stage presence, and very little looks. He seriously looks like a cleaned up hick, no offense to hicks, kk? I'm not into metal at all, but even I could see that James is really talented. I just hope someone will pick him up and run with it, for him. As for the girls....yawn. I don't care, Haley doesn't appeal to me, and while Lauren is cute, I suppose, she's nothing that special. Kinda like Scotty..not really much charisma or stage presence.

I love James! He is a double edged sword with his singing abillity and performing. Something new and fresh every week. I am glad he got voted off. Now he doesn't have to do cookie cutter music. Adam Lambert and Daughtry did not win yet look where they are at! Daughtry was 4th just like James yet RCA gave him a deal and his first album sold 1 million copies after 5 weeks of it being released. He is better off being voted off now. He is amazing and he will be huge. He will definitely be able to take care of his family and make amazing music. I can't wait for his first album. Success is not about confetti it's about writing and singing music you want to make and having people buy your album and never take it out of their car. Daughtry never leaves my car and neither will James' first album! Love you James! Ditto from The Danving DJ (my hubby). Our throats were raw from screaming and cheering when James performed. We have fallen in love with metal again. Thank you James! Steven Tyler's video rocked, too.

While I do 100% agree that James got the shaft, I don't know why everyone is so surprised. American Idol has time after time had the best singer of the season get kicked off the show. In fact, I can only think of two seasons when the best singer of the season actually won...Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. I think the best singer ever on idol was Chris Daughtry, who also got kicked off 4th. James will be fine, but it just frustrates me year after year that (almost always) the best singer doesn't win.

To everyone who says Haley is the best and didn't deserve to go home: you are tone-deaf. You complain about James screaming but that is exactly what Haley does. She can't do different styles of songs well at all. look at the critique this generous panel of judges gave her. Whenever she tried something different it didn't work out. She has zero low register in her voice. the good qualities only come out when she is belting. She is a one-trick pony. Hopefully the guys who voted for Haley (surely no females with ears did), will wise-up and vote for talent. Haley wasn't even the third best female on the show let alone top three....

To all the naysayers that say that James wasn't a good metal singer, Zakk Wylde, the guitarist of 15 years plus for the biggest name in heavy metal, none other than Ozzy himself, would not go on a show and play with someone that was a poser. If your not the real deal, someone with that kind of reputation isn't going to associate with you, especially to an audience of 10 plus million people. Think about this before you criticize, would Zakk Wylde come on stage and perform with you?

Although a good entertainer James had limited appeal as the others were voted off and their fan base migrated to Haley and the others. You have to realize who is watching AI and then the results begin to make sense. Haley can sing and she appeals to a greater fan base than James. Heavy metal has a limited audience, I certainly enjoy Zaak Wylde, but don't you think that helped James a bit. Someone has to go each week at this point, Haley and Scotty in the final, this is what the demographics will determine. Love to see Zaak and Haley perform, Ha!

I agree and disagree. I agree with the one vote per person, but I disagree with you saying you shouldn't argue with the judges. Anyone that has had any staying power in the music industry has done their own thing and not listened to everyone that has said you should do this, or you shouldn't do that. If you listen to everyones advice you're going to end up putting out someone else's album, not your own. Look at some of the biggest names to ever succeed, Ozzy, Johnny Cash etc. They listened to noone and done what they wanted to do and have secured their spot in the history books.

Rephrase your first sentence to say "The most talented contestantS were voted off TOO SOON THIS SEASON."

James, obviously, was somehow jilted tonight by his voting base. We may never know what really happened, but a tragedy occurred tonight. James was the most deserving of the remaining four to go to the Top 3, or even the Top 2.

There was massive talent but unfortunately the original and wonderful stylings of Casey, Pia, Paul and Jacob (at least in my opinion) all fell victim to the dime-a-dozen teenyboppers in the Top 3 this year. And it seems as though there was nothing we could do to stop it.

But what happened/ He went on to have a bigger career than Elliot, Catherine and Taylor! Just because you don't win "Idol", it doesn't mean that you won't have a great career in music! The only winners that have any success are Kelly and Carrie. And look at Jennifer Hudson! She won an Oscar! James, I honestly believe that you'll go all the way to the top! If they had limited calling like DWTS you could be sure the Vote is honest. But not here at all? So I've just stoped watching or DVR the show or cared who will won.

I agree that James has talent and can sing but the judges pumped him up so much, never criticized him and he began to act like he was unstoppable. He let his singing slack off and only put on a show, the judges never called him on it, finally America did...

I think that Haley has more talent than America gives credit her credit for. She has been consistent and has a unique voice. When she sang Adele, I knew she was great. James is a great performer! He is a total package, however I feel Lauren should have gone home. She is good but not ready. She has been scared to sing to her full potential, which shows through on her performances. I think that this season has more talent as a whole than any but again, we might have a Kris Allen... Someone who will have one, maybe two big hits and that's it.

James was the front runner. No way he should have gone home. If this show continues they need a save to use for the Top Five onward. This is ridiculous. Teenyboppers on speed dial should not rule the American Idol world. Talent should count for something.

Wow. I can't believe all the negative comments about Haley. Seriously? Lets be real. Casey was the screamer... and James too. Yes, they were entertaining and talented, and maybe they should be an American Idol because it takes more than a good voice... which neither really had. James was off pitch most of the time. Halely has such a unique voice with so many layers and textures to it. It is too bad none of you appreciate that kind of talent. If anyone should have gone home it should be Lauren- good voice, but girls with her style.... dime a dozen! besides, is this 15 yo seriously ready for a recording contract, tour dates, etc. "I can't be evil". Jacob, Paul and Stefano – giggles!!!! ...Something is really wrong with the voting...Someone suggested 1 vote per telephone #...that might help but would sure hurt AT&T's income and you really cant count on the JUDGES voting either...AI gives people of all ages a chance to showcase their talents and it was great to see them develop their talents and stage presence week after week....Then American comes along and votes for the wrong people....kinda like voting for SHRUB !!! ....Anyway, thank you James for a season of great performances – you were the only reason most of us watched...And the same to Adam!!!!! There is a group who could not get on to vote from Canada (yes, that is a part of America) and another who said when they tried to vote for one candidate the vote said "thanks for voting for...,yes, you got it... a different candidate. Still think you got the best ones and that it is a fantastic program with fair voting? Take a look. . And yes, this really really was my first and last year. by by

I think James made some voters nervous over his diseases. His blinking & squeezing his eyes shut all the time, his crying, and just his general presentation turned off a lot of people-certainly not his fault. It's a sad thing to say, but it is what it is. His voice eventually turned into something that was pleasant to listen to instead of all that screaming, but his heart was in Metal. Metal is long dead & buried. But I agree with most of the posters that he was #1-but the voters just didn't see it that way. I also think Haley should of been long gone. I do wish it had been James instead of Haley. I think he would of felt better about himself if that had happened. He did get very angry about getting voted off & the looks on some faces showed their concern about it. But it's said & done now & nothing's going to change the outcome. I'm for sure going to keep watching-I want to see what happens in the end. And James will always be back with everyone to tour!

How can they say America decided the vote if someone can vote more than once? No way that they can police the people voting by phone but at least they could allow only one vote per phone line. I love your talent and voice and we need to hear more from you!! Someone will scoop you up and make you a star! You truly deserve it. Best of luck to you in your future. The top 2 money earners were winners. 3 of the top 5 in album sales were winners- (Underwood/Clarkson and Reuben) with the other two being Clay Aiken (who finished 2nd) and Daughtry. 3 of the top 5 overall earners were WINNERS - Underwood, Clarkson, David Cook. Jordin Sparks is 7th- another WINNER. Kris Allen-10th – a WINNER. I love the way all the moronic people just spout off things without knowing anything.

VERY big surprise. James will be a star, even without Idol. Perhaps that's why he was voted off. He already plays some publicly in our area, and maybe the voters just figured this is just the exposure he needs. By not winning, he gains a lot of 'freedom' to control his career. The other contestants are certainly not as dynamic as James, and maybe they will benefit MORE by winning than James would. Still, this is very painful, and I think James was consistently the artist who showed the most talent and amazing voice. We will be seeing MUCH more of him after Idol. The rest of the contestants, and the winner will have to work VERY hard to keep their singing career high up in the public's eye.

American Idol is a juggernaut that will never die. Every year, - then, every week as they get later into the final few- all these blogs contain comments from morons saying – "American Idol is done." "American Idol is rigged." On and on... Yet, it continuously remains, by far, the number 1 show on television– now 8 years straight. Get over it, people. James is talented, but he's gone. The show's not fixed- you just didn't vote for him enough. To me, Haley Reinhart is the best the show's had since Jordin Sparks (who was on tonight)- and ranks right up there with Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, the best 2 in the show's history. True, Durbin's got similarity to Daughtry and I wish him similar success from this 4th place finish. But, don't be hatin' on my Haley. She's got the support– and, in my opinion, should and WILL be your next American Idol. And, no matter what you say– you WILL be watchin' when it happens.

I would have been sad to see any of them go. They are all incredibly talented with amazing voices. James certainly is talented and a sentimental favorite. But, I was worried after last night. I was worried the many, long high screaming notes were going to start turning some people off and I didn't think his performances were quite as good as they have been up until last week. This is in contrast to Haley and Lauren who have stepped up and grown as performers. But honestly, it really is hard to see any of them go. They are all great and I sincerely hope they all have successful recording careers. I'll definitely have James Durbin on my play list.

The little show last night by Scotty for the teeny boppers won him the votes to overthrow a person that was superior. The voting is getting out of hand. It should only be one vote per number called from or email sent in. This multiple votes for this or that is just plane nutz and sways the votes to the FEMALE teeny bobbers again.

I am soooo disappointed. James was not only good but he was genuine. In my opinion when the judges chastized Haley so much for her first performance it only made her fans want to vote that much more. It's hit and miss with them. They either say everyone is great or they single one person out to take the brunt of the citicism. Haley is NOT the caliber of star that should be in the top 3. In my opinion, she wore out her welcome when she was in the top 11! I am biased as James was my choice to win but I am not worried.....we will see James get a recording contract and we will see his albums selling as well as Chris Daughtry's .....another contestant who was dismissed before his time and look how much bigger he is than the people from his season. so this was the first year that I have ever watched American Idol. Like most of us in Santa Cruz and around the world who have a kid with a handicap we were loving that someone different could make it this far. You are great James and you are so loved and have overcome so much.
Like me there are many who only watched it for that reason. For James.
The others are just spoiled kids who can sing and who are not above using 911 or a tornado disaster for a cheap trick, to get votes.

I won't be watching this again unless someone like him comes along again.
I do not want to give my support to American Idol for another reason. It is an abuse of kids. Talent is used for FOX to make a huge amount of money on network and Ford adds. Justin Bieber had is right. Just by-pass the networks and go directly to you tube and to the people.

The person with the most talent should win. And he, I'm sorry to break it to you, is not talented. Good for him, pat him on the back for making it this far.

The show is defunct and broken and shouldn't be on the air anymore. If this is your first and last year of watching the show, then you are much luckier than most of us who have been watching the show way too long. Save yourself and jump the Idol ship while you still can.

James was a good singer and an okay rocker. He had a lot of heart and that's what made him so popular but I doubt many will actually pay for his albums. Haley is at least refreshing and not just more of the same old stuff we hear day to day on the radio, I'd like to hear her do a blues album. Her "House of the Rising Sun" cover was great. Lauren is an amazing vocalist but she lacks the experience to make the songs her own when she sings about love, but as she matures she'll be a force to be reckoned with. She could be the next Kelly Clarkson but better. Scottie is boring and can't compare to the two remaining girls. Should be an interesting finale.

I like and agree with your response, its a lot nicer than the way I had put it but its right on the money. I think Jame's ego did him in. He started acting like he had already won it - Guess he believed that the judges would see to it. I think he was a good showman, but as far as raw talent, I'm not so sure. He really didn't have anything unique about him that a lot of other rockers don't have.
I'm glad Haley made it. I think she has a lot of talent, and if she can get a good advisor on her song choices, I think she has a career.
Scotty will go on to have a big country career - maybe as big as Carrie Underwood.
The one that puzzles me is Lauren. She's got a nice voice, but I don't see her having a career. There are a lot of cute country girls in the south that sing in their church choirs. The whole thing about her saying last night that she didn't want to say she was "evil".... Cute, but really????
But maybe the finale will be a sing off between Lauren and Scotty.

This is to Dee....but his disability has nothing to do with anything. Anybody can have an ego and Hound got it right. James thought he won it all. I am getting so frustrated with people thinking only about his disability. None of this has anything to do with it. He doesn't DESERVE to win just because he has a disability. He has to work just as hard as everyone else and get just as many votes from America. He just wasn't what America wanted to hear anymore.

I think that America got it wrong this week. I think all of the remaining are worthy of winning but based on last night I think Haley had the weakest performances. My concern with her is that her "growl" is way over used and she is risking blowing out her voice. It is much the same as over use of falsetto that ended up giving Frankie Valli voice paralysis.

All of Jacobs votes didn't go to James! Ask yourself this. Why was James allowed to do more on stage than the other contestants? It wasn't fair from the begining. Randy killed Pia with his comments and now James. I wanted Pia originally!

James was my winner. Even though I know he will have a great career, by him not winning takes away from the creditability of the show. As much as I love Jennifer Lopez, once she commented about voting for the girls it was no longer a talent contest. Pia was actually the best female. The talent was the best ever this year. Very disappointed ending. Always thought James would win with Scotty & Pia 2nd & 3rd. Jennifer, I love you but you have to watch what you say, America is watching. Good luck to James, you were very entertaining & the reason I watched American Idol.

Well, wake up people – after Pia Toscano was robbed, Durbin remained. And look see what American Idol's corrupted voting process resulted in tonight – a travesty against Durbin.

Well – I still say Pia's was the greater and crueler loss – by haters of hers.

Durbin – he shoulda been in the final. I don't know if he would have won – but a Pia Toscano final against James Durbin would have been one heck of a American Idol contest.

Durbin – now you have been wronged – just like Pia was.

I boycotted after Pia also. Not surprised at this result. The show is not based on talent, but popularity. It's better in the end to not be the AI winner, not having to be tied to their contracts, ability to earn much more money outside, etc. Many of the non-winners have already surpassed (Crystal, Adam, Jennifer) Pia has incredible talent and will go on to be an amazing success on her own.

To "Why Oh Why": Get Over Yourself. If you care so much about trolling an American Idol board, then maybe you're the one who needs to get a life. If people want to watch Idol and complain about James losing, that's their prerogative. You're contributing NOTHING by telling people to stop watching Idol.

I want to add, when I was younger, I used to do the same thing you do: I would go to message boards and make fun of how lame people are. Now that I'm a bit older, I've realized it's immature and completely pointless. People will do what they want to, and whether you can relate to them is irrelevant. So go volunteer at an animal shelter or something.

I disagree as far as the talent goes. I think in terms of pure vocal ability, this might be the season with the most raw talent out of all of the seasons I saw (I didn't see the first couple of seasons though, so I can't really speak about them). Come on, remember the year when Sunjaya was in the contest? The guy couldn't sing and lasted so long... I believe he wouldn't have made it past Hollywood week this season; it was just too strong. I saw more weeks this season where nobody was really weak than I can remember in any of the past seasons.

I worked in the music business for 7 years and served as a Board of Governor for NARAS. (Grammy Awards). This business is all about the bottom line. Who is most marketable (translated: can pull in the dollars)? What genre of music is generating the most money right now? How long can the artist stay on top or at least chart high enough to satisfy the accountants over the next five years? Remember, ALL jobs in the music industry depend on answering these questions and choosing the next money-maker. Out of the four, James was not that person. That does not say James wasn't the most talented. Talent plays a part, but it plays just a part. Other factors weigh in when choosing a star to make money for the industry. But sometimes, just sometimes, a star is born on their own. And that star blazes bright and long and nothing, NOTHING can stand in its brightness!

I can understand what you are saying Debbie. My wish for James is that this experience will land him into his own breakout... it can be done. He is known now. As Jennifer said, he can sing anything. I like musicians that work hard and love music to their very souls... practise makes perfect and James is on his way and hopefully his way. The others will be maleable with the contracts offered but just another good voice.
Question for you.. why do you say this...doesn't the vote come from votes? or is it tilted? Had James left sooner, I would not have had the opportunity to watch his performances and that would be sad for many like myself. Is this a scheme?

      May 12, 2011 at 10:28 pm | Report abuse |

I think that what you're saying here is that the contest is rigged and the winner is actually decided by the music industry and the voting is just a sham. It wouldn't surprise me.

      May 12, 2011 at 11:42 pm | Report abuse |

And I also think that this numbers game is exactly what's killed the record industry and non-satellite radio. The industry blames it on people downloading free music but in all honesty, I think that by leaving the decisions up to beancounters who know numbers but little about music (and don't really have any passion for the music itself), the music industry has cut off it's own nose despite its fact by making it nearly impossible for anyone who is out there making actual art rather than generic cheese whiz to get out there on a major record label.

The result of this is that many of us look to either college radio stations or to the internet to find our own music (e.g., the bands putting their music out there themselves)–because we see the industry itself feeding us little more than garbage these days–just my opinion.

I was quite concerned for him getting on AI. This is a true blessing that he will not be wearing that label of an american Idol. He is not out of the woods yet, all the top 11 have contracts with american Idol and really have no control for the next year or so. Whoever wins this IDOL no longer matters. Remember the gray-haired winner Taylor Hicks or some other recent American Idols? . . . Now, compare him to the "loosers" such as Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, Clay Akin, David Archuleta, Crystal Bowesox, Adam Lambert ! ! ! James is out, good for him, since it would have been such a disgrace if he'd stayed till the finals and become runner-up to a yodeling screamer, cowgirl-better-than-MileyC, or all-roads-lead-to-country....

I didn't vote but I think that Haley has shown more depth and talent than James. Don't get me wrong. James can put on a good show, but there is a trademark wailing that is part of his act that gets old pretty fast. When I saw Haley do House of the Rising Sun I saw a star in action. Scotty shows talent that goes beyond the Country Western theme. Lauren is good too. As for the those Haley bashers out there . . . you all sound like you hate the pretty girl. Jealous?

    May 12, 2011 at 9:39 pm | Report abuse |
    • Jon

Not jealous. But, also, not tone deaf. Haley butchers notes right and left. And I'm a huge fan of jazz, and know what a real singer can do to bend a note. She doesn't. She just hacks away. And her performance of House of the Rising Sun was horrible. She didn't know how to interpret that song at all. Her voice was too bubbily, she smiled during the entire song, and again, didn't hit the notes that she should have. But, then, I wasn't influenced by a wink and a smile, eh, Bob? The previous night, Randy had it right. That Jackson song required someone with a clear voice, someone who could not just hit the notes, but hit them convincingly, and with a pure voice. But, Haley can't take criticism, and if she pulled that act in a real studio, she'd be shown the door. But, on tv, it's poor little pretty girl; you all must be jealous, eh, Bob? No...not jealous. Just not enamored by someone who has limited talent, and can't take criticism.

I completely agree... James is not that good... I don't think anyone realizes how hard it is to sing the way that Haley does. People really give her a lot of criticism, but the girl can belt like NONE other then land on a completely soft pitch perfect note. She really is good... so is Lauren, her voice is amazing. James had to force a lot of what he did. He wasn't terrible, he just was really overrated. Scotty on the other hand has a GIANT fan base, that is why he's here.

There was talent in James and I thought for sure ! James was going to win .. When I tried out myfriend and I totaly agreed that they were picking alot of people who had R&B or sung R&B songs .. The reason they have JL0 as a judge is because they are looking for a cattle call it's casting I have been knowing all along they are not looking for a rocker or country star. It's not what america wants it's what the producer's already have in mind .. that is probaly why after so long the judges release themselves from the show because it's A LIE!!! . The last several seasons of Idol have all seen the best performer lose, from David Archuleta to Adam Lambert and now James Durbin. We won't be watching Idol any more.

Do you people really believe Scotty is all that good. Great country singer but after that not half as good as the rest. Luaren is cute but way too young to be anything but a country singer. Show should be named American Country Idol. USA voted off Casey and now James. Oh that's right it is a show on the Fox Network.

well i am in total shock! i live in nc so of course i am a scotty fan. but what happen tonight was so mess up. james going home over halley. that is just wrong. yes halley has a great voice, but did not bring her a game the last two weeks, and james is so awesome, he can sing anything, even country which i was very happy about. my daughter who is ten said to me that we should all write letters about this and she is ten. but you know what he is going to have a huge career over anyone on this season. james has the heart and talent so he will be ok, you will have two fans in durham nc. and can not wait to buy his stuff in the stores or itunes.

This show has to be rigged. There is no way that could have happened. I'm a 50 year woman and I have voted weekly for James. No reason to watch anymore cause the entertainment is gone. I'm sure he has a career but that's not the point. He is 100% better than both of the girls. Haley hateful ass should have been gone. Maybe the voting should be based on who sells the most on single performances on iTunes, I have purchased several of James. This is just unbelievable.

Show is rigged. I still adore the talent, and the show. Makes for more drama, but honestly, this was going to be a hard year. The bottom 4 this year is perhaps the most promising, as compared to other years. Adam Lambert got robbed and look what happened. Jennifer Hudson? There are years of winners of AI that no one remembers their names, nor listens to their music. James was my favorite; he will be successful, despite the show, just like so many others. Hello, Daughtry? I hope Scotty or Lauren wins, because they are so young, humble, and country. But in my opinion Paul and Casey were the Bob Dylan's of this show's complete run. But then, Bob Dylan is, like them, an aquired taste–yet brilliant.

I am totally shocked that either Haley or Scotty are still standing. James just grew on me throughout the season. I believe that the show has become a popularity contest. I also think that the top 6 in this group will definitely become stars. Good luck to them all. It was difficult to pick a favorite every week. Can't wait for the idol tour!

This show has been a popularity contest for a long, long time. I am not a James fan, but when the judges used their only save when there were still eleven contestants it turned this show into more of a popularity contest. These judges have to go. You can't sit back an praise everyone for weeks on end and then in the last 3 or four weeks start to critique everyone. They slam some of the contestants for not stepping out of the box and taking chances while others (James and Scotty) do the same thing week after week after week and nothing is said.

I don't believe any of the top 3 should be the AI winner...they are commonplace singers...would you shell out $100 to watch Scotty play with the microphone? or Lauren stand still? or Haley...heck no, but I'd pay it to watch James and listen to him sing...because he's the TOTAL PACKAGE...All I can say is that I hope he follows in Daughtrey's footsteps and rocks it all the way to the top of the charts. THANK YOU JAMES for many, many weeks of enjoyment. I'll NEVER turn AI on again.

James is a good singer, but I think sometimes annoying habits can be your demise. With Casey, it was the growling, and with James, it's the need to screech on every number. I think he's a bit of an Adam Lambert wanabee, but Adam had the pipes to hit the high notes with great voice quality that never suffered.

    May 12, 2011 at 9:17 pm | Report abuse |
    • Penny

I wish him luck!

Possibly.. it's hard to tell–things seem pretty unpredictable this season. Frankly, I think James had the most vocal talent of all of them, and he was voted off. It's not the first time though. Remember Jennifer Hudson? At least James made it to the top 4.

What's hard to tell with any of these singers is what they're going to do once they have a recording contract (and at this phase of the game all of them will). I've seen many Idols or Idol contestants who showed a lot of promise to me as singers, but just seemed like more-of-the-generic-same once they actually got recording contracts. I guess that's the disadvantage of a pure singing contest... we only know so much about what any of them will actually do once they're out in the real world.

Disagree–I can't believe that he's gone and Scotty's there. Compared to James, Scotty has virtually no versatility and no range. Yes, comparisons can be made to Adam Lambert, but I think James actually has a much better/less thin tone in that part of his range than Lambert. Also, anyone who's calling him an 'Adam Lambert' wannabe seriously needs to look back and learn a little more of the history of rock music–both of them are actually emulating some of the classic rock singers like Robert Plant.

As with some previous seasons, we will have a so-called Idol who will quickly fade on an answer in a trivia game, while a runner-up will go on to be a megastar. James can sing anything. He was so far above the rest of the talent show contestants. James had a bad night, but will have a brilliant future. Probably will not watch the rest of Idol this season. Have to disagree completely. Yeah, he did like to use that part of his range a lot, which some people don't like (definitely from the Led Zeppelin/Robert Plant school of influence), but he also has great tone (which gave him the versatility to sound great on the ballads where he WASN'T using the 'scream), control, a range of octaves far beyond that of any of the other contestants (making Scotty look like he had a range of about 2 notes in comparison). In terms of those criteria–by which singers are usually based–I think that James had the most talent of all of them, although I think there's a lot of talent in general there this year, so that's a high complement. I honestly think he has a ton more range and versatility than Scotty.

James Durbin has not had a single bad performance on the show, he has never been in the bottom, and I think that America truly messed up this time. I thought Durbin was going to win it all. He grew on me every week and he is such a great entertainer. And what a back story. I still think he will make it big and be an inspiration with people born with special needs. Did someone say Daughtrey?

Durbin was lucky to even get on the show. He's got very little talent and was extremely over rated. And if you ask REAL rockers and metalheads...he's a poser. GOOD RIDDANCE.

Completely disagree. He had the great tone, great versatility, and a vocal range that surpassed all of the other contestants this season (a formidable statement, not taking anything away from them). Scotty over James?? Seriously....

Range, tone, and true vocal ability in metal can be found in Geoff Tate and Rob Halford. I don't see how Durbin can even begin to compare. He wasn't metal. He wasn't even aluminum foil.

So I guess you think Steven Tyler a Hall of Fame Rock N Roller doesn't know what he's talking about when he said James had the stuff he did and he'd like to perform with him? I think you are the dud that doesn't have an ear for music. Keep doing what you do best making a fool out of yourself by shooting your mouth off.

Tyler rocks. However in all honesty Tyler really didn't badmouth anyone. I'm willing to bet he had a totally different opinion off the record. I work with REAL rock and metal musicians every day so yeah, I know what I'm talking about. If however I was in love with him as you appear to be then perhaps I'd be enamored like you. I'm guessing you also think the Bay City Rollers rock. Now feel free to type out one of your silly little insults so you can feel better.

Instead of criticizing James for his heavy metal song, you ought to thank him for showcasing heavy metal on AI.
I am not a fan of heavy metal but I am a rock fan from far back. I know when I like a singer and it does not always have to be dead on has to have style and soul. James has the best talent all round on AI. Stop with your 'I know it all because I am in the business' crap. You are talking like a pompous ass. James is going places, are you?

You should look him up on youtube, he is a serious musician that surrounds himslef with quality players. I come from a family of muscians, several generations, and am married to one of the regions best soul singers/gutarist/artist so I think I know potential talent when I hear or see it. James had what it takes, voice, talent and showmanship and he will have a great career. Country singers like Scotty are a dime a dozen.

"Range, .... in metal" Who said 'in metal' or that it had to be 'in metal'. I thought of Durbin as a rock n' roll guy, but not necessarily a heavy metal guy. And there are a lot of talented people in rock who aren't in the metal genre. Metal or not metal, the guy has incredible range and versatility, and in my opinion was the most talented of the finalists who was on tonight.

      May 12, 2011 at 10:14 pm | Report abuse |
    • Cliff

Why oh why, I have to completely disagree with you. On what, other than your pure opinion having nothing to do with any objective criteria on which a singer is typically judged, can you base the statement that Durbin has 'no musical talent.' When I think of a singer's potential talent I think of: ability to be on key, vocal tone, control, versatility and range of voice. Durbin's always on key, to my mind he has a great vocal tone in both high and low registers of his voice (I guess that's the part where everyone has their own opinion on what's pleasing to their ear though), has the control, has shown himself to be very versatile in the types of songs he can sing (he has the tone to pull off the ballads as well as the rockers), and undeniably has an amazing range of several octaves. So again, by any objective criteria by which any knowledgeable judge of vocal talent judges it, I can't see how you can possibly say that unless, again, you're basing it purely on opinion or the sound you like without any real musical knowledge.

      May 12, 2011 at 10:21 pm | Report abuse |
    • Cliff

BTW, what I"m not going to do is go out on a limb for Durbin and predict that he's going to put out some kind of a great album. I hope he does, but I've seen a lot of these Idol winners or finalists just put out a lot of disappointing pop fluff that doesn't even make good use of their vocal abilities–what this contest doesn't judge is someone's ability to actually write good music (or pick good songs if they're using someone else to write them...)

To say that James wasn't a good metal singer, Zakk Wylde, the guitarist of 15 years plus for the biggest name in heavy metal, none other than Ozzy himself, would not go on a show and play with someone that was a poser. If your not the real deal, someone with that kind of reputation isn't going to associate with you, especially to an audience of 10 plus million people. Think about this before you criticize, would Zakk Wylde come on stage and perform with you?

James, Jacob and Haley were the best singers. I truly believed that it would be a singout between James and Jacob. I wish that Canada could vote - the results would have been very different. Unfortunately, the musically challenged citizens of the United States have voted for the country dudes. They're OK – Scotty will have a country career with his very typical country voice (a bit like Jim Reeves of bygone years). Lauren may be a silly little flash in the pan like Kelly Pickler. But, the truly great singers of this season will be gone and we'll be left with the choices of the southern baptists, uneducated rednecks, silly teeny boppers and naive grannies.

Goodnewsbuff, I think you're forgetting the longer term here. The truth is that at this stage of the game, most of these people are getting recording contracts anyway, and whoever will make it will make it. Remember the year Ruben won? Clay Aiken still became more popular. Or the year Daughtry was voted out not even making it to the top 3? He seems to be doing fine for himself.

Ultimately, winning the contest won't mean all that much in the longer term...

I think, to get this far, they are all pretty talented, but I really expected Durbin to win. I think, if he was to sing an entire concert, he wouldn't go all out on every song trying to show off his vocal range (he wouldn't use his upper range in *every* song). I think James has the talent *and* showmanship *and* presence to have a decent career. I hadn't watched AI before, only got into this season to see Durbin because a friend posted a YouTube link to one of his performances. I'm sorry he was voted off the show, but relieved I won't have to invest any more time in AI. I find the second evening cruel and unusual punishment – torture for entertainment. I only watched one Thursday night episode. After that – I went back to reading the results.

Not that surprising that James was voted off given that the vast majority of viewers/voters are girls between the ages of 10 and 16. They voted a bunch of their own kind into the finals. "America" isn't actually voting.

One problem is that many people vote to save somebody. I voted for Haley, but I would have voted for James too if I thought he was in trouble. If you could vote for who you wanted to leave, that would be much easier, but harder to stomach. I would have voted for Scotty to leave. Youngblood was just comical at best. He has shown incredible talent and promise, but he seems often revert to a caricature of himself. Lauren in coming on strong. And I have to agree with Lauren's opinion of Haley, she has the best voice.

Enjoy your time off James. You will be working very hard very soon I think.

I am SUPER sad. He was by far the most mature, emotional and original contestant. Both my husband and I are so disappointed. We could not wait seeing him each week. The other kids are adorable but the true winner is gone for us. At least with having a newborn and 3 year old at home we will not have a pressure to washing the AI anymore. For James one word – DAUGHTRY!!!!

I will not be watching AI anymore. I am too now convinced its rigged. There is NO WAY that Haley is better than James with her growling-dont get me wrong, she is good, but to win? They will all make out no matter what place they come in, but I have my doubts that "america got it wrong" and that its more like "american idol planned this out"

Sorry this is your fault along with the rest of James' fans who did not vote for him, or vote for him enough! Don't blame this on "America"! Maybe if all of you who liked James so much showed as much passion for voting last night for him as you have tonight whining about him being gone, maybe he would still be there!!!!!

I dont understand all the hate for Haley- I thinnk shes great- Scotty should have been gone a long time ago- Everything he does sounds exactly the same- And whats with the weird expressons on his face when he sings ? His eyebrows have a mind of their own- James should have stayed and Scotty should have gone- Both the girls are good- Leave Haley alone-

Elimination of James Durbin a shame. I've watched Idol for years, but no more. Last night proved tio me the votes are fixed. Haley, top three, NO. Idol should still pay for and give James a hometown visit. Scotty is great; however, with Haley in top three,I won't even contnue to watch final. IDOL – GIVE JAMES A HOMETOWN VISIT...SANTA CRUZ CANCELED ACTIVITIES – HOW AWFUL. AMERICAN IDOL – VOTES ARE FIXED.

I am done with Idol - James was never even in the bottom wo - Scottie couldn't even remember his lyrics during Hollywood week and every sng he sang was country like a one trick pony.....Snooty ass Haley just pouted like a brat ... James was the only one who came up with creative ways to perform – the other three kids (and that is what they are) sing like during a middle school talent show...pathetic......done with IDOL for good......what a joke

Bye bye Durbin! Thank goodness this guy is gone...the last few weeks have been brutal listening to him perform. Apparently the sympathy vote can carry you a long way! I'm glad America got this RIGHT and sent a pitchy, screechy, off tune, and average singer home. I like the boys story, but he just isn't that good a singer. Now do us a favor and send Scotty packing too....then my faith in idol will be restored....but this elimination definitely helped return some credibility to this show. Haley is BY FAR the best singer and Lauren is talented but lacks confidence. I hope to see them in the final......because Scotty bores me to tears.

OMG what a farce. If anyone believes Haley shouldn't of been eliminated you have not been watching closely. She screams, that's not singing...
She should of been voted out long ago. Fortunately, James and Scotty will have great careers anyway.
Why should I be surprised. We couldn't vote for a President that made sense either....
      We are doomed!

This is a perfect example of American deomographics. 80 miilion watch and 8 million vote but 6-8 time each. Look at the demographic pool that makes up most of the voters. They are young middle school kids most of who vote are female. There is no question James was the best volcal performer but look at his music selection – rock, metal, etc. I tend to like it but in 50+ and do not vote on Idol. The young kids just don't appreciate what James had to offer – my opinion...

Are you really sure AMERICA got it wrong? This is TV – look back over the years. I don't believe the vote tallies each night ... and when you see something like this, it just brings the entire situation back into light. I truly believe the show does this to get people talking and promoting Idol. Remember this is all free advertising!!!

I think it should have been someone else also. Like Haley. But maybe this was for the BEST look at Daughtery. He's doing great on his own and can do the music he wants to. Go James. I'd like to see him hit it big on his own.

James Durbin is fantastic. This is completely wrong. Why is Scotty McCreery still on this show? He has no talent what so ever and is boring. I agree with others. The show is rigged against singers form California, who don't look clean cut and church going. This is an evangelical contest, not a singing contest. Just look at the winners from the last 2 years. Why don't they let judges either have more saves or have a 50% vote? I'm also never watching this show again.

Agree Mike...Lauren or Scotty should be gone, NOT James. I really think this is a set up. If James would have been in the final three with Scotty and Lauren or Haley and Lauren, Lauren would definitely have lost. Haley and James are the best for two for the finale. The 3rd should have been Casey, Jacob, or Pia to fight it out.

I thought that young lady that received standing ovations last week and this week was terrific. Maybe that's where the votes went. Lauren was also good, so was Scotty, so was James. But hey, who gets standing ovations will get the votes, is there anything wrong with that?

It just goes to show that the voting policy has to change. No wonder this season is getting record votes. All the pre teens are sitting at their lap tops with face book open voting for Scotty. They have to some how make it one person one vote.

    • I've had enough

I willadmit I was lovin AI this season with the addition of Steven Tyler. I haven't always agreed with the eliminations but I was liking the vibe. Until last week that is. IF they received 72 million votes like they claim you can't tell me that someone who was never even in the bottom just suddenly got sent home. I think that is a bunch of crap & quite frankly I won't be finishing the season. James is probably better off getting eliminated so that he can do his own thing but it still makes me angry that it's supposed to be America's vote & is so very obviously rigged to go the way the show wants the results to go. So, that's it for me, after being faithful for years, I'm done. No more. If you are going to fake it, at least make it believeable.

Doesn't matter, he sucks, and Hayley sucks, the other dude is ok, but Lauren is fantastic. She is competing against no one but herself. But the way it goes, she'll probably lose to Hayley, cuz they seem to almost always pick the wrong one. Oh well, it usually doesn't hurt the ones that get voted off out of the last 4 or 5, if they are good, they'll make it without American Idol's consent. But go Lauren. Maybe they'll get it right.
