Matt Lauer: I'm not doing a show with Katie Couric

Unlike Meredith Vieira, Matt Lauer insists he has no plans to leave the "Today" show anytime soon. In fact, Lauer says that contrary to recent reports, he won't be joining departing "CBS Evening News" anchor Katie Couric for a syndicated talk show.

"We certainly spoke about the possibility, but we’ve talked about a lot of possibilities over the years," Lauer says of re-teaming with Couric, according to Deadline. "It turned into just talk. And that’s where we left it. It’s not going to happen.”

Former "Today" co-anchor Couric recently hinted that a reunion with Lauer could happen once she signs off at CBS.

"Matt and I have undeniable chemistry in the most platonic sense of the word," she said. "We are like an old, married couple. We finish each other's sentences. He is very committed to the 'Today' show. But who knows?"

Indeed, Lauer, whose contract expires in 2012, says he's staying put — for now.

"I have a long-term deal with NBC News," he said. "I’m going to be here for a while. You’re going to get sick of me."

I really hope that Matt is not a snob – he does not come across that way at all......he and Meridith make a great duo on the Today show....Katie on the other hand was so full of herself she was a bore.....I will greatly miss Meridith....and wish both she and her family health and happiness....

I started watching CNN when Katie left, couldn't stand Matt Laurer, and I didn't find Merideth's jokes about boozing funny, and Ann Curry would never let a guest talk, she knows it all!

Matt Lauer is a class act. I hope he stays with the Today show for a long time. He is professional and articulate. Besides, talk shows can disappear quickly. NBC has a better retirement plan.

Nice play. Stay committed during your existing contract until 2012 and let's see if the network will have the foresight to understand your value. Keep in mind that most companies are reactive with employees.

It's useless to use the 'buddy' system. This is not Friends. Be a free agent, don't get typecast and carve your own way.
