Farewell to a beloved team on 'The Amazing Race'

[Editor's Note: Don't read any further if you have yet to watch last night's "Amazing Race: Unfinished Business."]

Sunday night's episode of "The Amazing Race" saw one of the most popular teams in the series' history eliminated (like all of the teams this season) for a second time.

The odds were against cowboys Jet and Cord plenty of times, yet they were able to get this far in the race. With only six teams remaining, it seemed like they would be able to pull through, but it was not to be.

It all started when the teams arrived in Liechtenstein and faced a roadblock where they had to measure the length of the country on a motorized bike.

Some of the other teams helped each other with the task, determined to eliminate the pair of cowboys. Jet didn't get the measurement right, and they were left far behind while other teams (including Gary and Mallory, who had an extra task from the previous week's non-elimination leg) caught the train to Switzerland. Working with each other this late in the race is definitely an unusual move, but not when trying to get rid of a team seen as a threat.

It seemed clear that the best choice on the detour in Zermatt, Switzerland was to haul 20 bags of luggage to many different hotels, which second place team Jen and Kisha quickly figured out. Even so, Zev and Justin stuck it out with the other choice, eating an entire bowl of cheese fondue, and despite losing his lunch, Justin saw it through to the finish line with his teammate.

Jet and Cord actually caught up with the Globetrotters, Flight Time and Big Easy, after every other team had checked in... but there was still the matter of the Double U-Turn. In the most controversial move yet this season, the 'Trotters used the Double U-Turn, and that sealed the cowboys' fate, with the extra humiliation of having to finish off that cheese fondue.

So, happy trails, you two. And for one last time... oh, my gravy!

A few other quick points:

  • Cord calling himself "the lone ranger" when it was obvious that Jet was in the back of the pack, plus that "Old West" theme music are just two of the reasons why I will greatly miss these guys.
  • Vyxsin really seems to wear the pants in the relationship with Kent, who has turned out to be too much of a whiner.
  • Phil Keoghan couldn't quite put his finger on it, but it's true, there's something about Mallory that is quite hilarious. She and her dad are so much fun to watch, that I think I'll be pulling for them from here on out.
  • Zev and Justin have really been on a roll lately, and look like the favorites to win now.

What'd you think of Jet and Cord getting the boot?

Unquestionably consider that that you said. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the web the simplest thing to keep in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed at the same time as other folks consider issues that they plainly do not recognize about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect , other folks could take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

The Jet and Cord basically got screwed....in the wrong way if you know what I mean, the amazing race should have rules about cheating...all the teams that cheated and got the answers from the other players should been given a penalty, I not interested anymore on who wins now.......not fair......they should sue the amazing race.

I am very disappointed that the other teams prevailed twice by cheating and the Cowboys followed the rules and were eliminated. The very first episode where the teams were supposed to read the flags and come up with the quote, the teams were all cheating to get ahead, but not the Cowboys. Then, when the other teams didn't go back and remeasure like they were told, the teams that did not should have incurred a penalty. Cheaters obviously do prosper. All of the remaining teams have cheated. I guess that's the only way they can win. We really miss the Cowboys.

Jet & Cord got shafted just like they did on their original race when the brothers cut to the front of the plane. Twice eliminated by cheating. Sorry guys! As for the Trotters, what they did at the end was fair. Annoying...but fair. I'm sure the front office at the Globetrotters will have a little talk with them about their publicity faux pas. It didn't make them the most likable guys.

I adored the cowboys! I will miss them dearly. They were so kind and polite and just great sports. However, it is a game. The goal is winning. The Globetrotters absolutely did the right thing. That said, the cowboys are the only duo I was really supporting, so I'm not certain I'll be watching going forward. Hey CBS, how about a cowboys reality show?

Teams have given other teams answers in past seasons and I'm sure they will continue to do so in the future. I think the thing that bothered me was that the teams seemed to gang up on the cowboys for no particular reason. The cowboys have been hanging on by their fingernails for the past couple episodes, so they really posed no threat. I think everybody's so upset because they're such a likable team. Always good sports, never nasty to each other or others, always polite and in awe of the places they travel. If it had happened to Kint and Vyxen, probably nobody would have cared.

I <3 the cowboys and I erally enjoy this show but I am getting really sick and tired of watching the other teams give the answers to each other. It takes the fun out of the show. I think that they need to implement a time penalty for gviing or asking for answers from another team. Working together is ok, but flat out giving answers is wrong. For example, flight time asking for the distance and the other people just giving it to him, he did the task wrong and should have had to go back and do it on his own, like the cowboys. To me the cowboys were and are the most upstanding team on the show, ever. I also love Gary and Mallory, and they typically do not jsut flat out ask for the answers from others. I have seem them work collaborativly with other teams, but i think they are the most honest team left. I will say i wouldn't mind if zev and justin win, i think that they are an amazing team and that they are an inspriation. The show must be so difficult for a person with developmental disabilites and justin is the most patient person i have ever seen in my life.... so in conclusion STOP THE FREAKING CHEATING!! lol

I totally agree with everyone about the cheating, only three out of the six did it correctly. Since you allowed cheating at the beginning with the flags, the teams presumed that this was ok. I have never watched survivor, but from the comments this is beginning to smell the same. I have watched over ten years and enjoyed it, but seriously thinking that teh race has lost its fairness. The cowboys should have won the first one, and would have if the other team hadn't talked there way into sitting in first class. That broke the rules right there. The cowboys were a class act, performing everything to the letter. Guess if I watch, I will have root for Kent and Vixen cause they appeared to be the only other team to perform the task correctly. Jed and Justin are just too crude and not good ambassadors for the US. I hope you will punish the cheating in the future, that is if I watch. Too angry right now!!!

I completely agree with Tracey – So sorry to see the Cowboys go, but I also agree "Go Mallory & her Dad, Go Flight Time and Big Easy. Rock on Amazing Race!" I'm sure the Cowboys want to see the Amazing Race continue – dont' give up on the show. Maybe future contestants will learn the best way to behave is by being fair to all contestants and if you're going to help one person then be prepared to help them all. I'm sure the contestants that were involved are learning something by reading all these comments. Would love to see the Cowboys again in the future!

For me to continue to watch The Amazing Race. They must make changes in regards to these Teams cheating the way they did last night. I agree it is one thing to team up with another team for to just give out the answers like they did... I really liked the Cowboys, but to consider them a real threat just look at the race even last night... They have really struggled the last several weeks... these guys are so busy do this type of thing that they are ignoring the real threats... in the other Teams... like FOUR FIRST PLACE FINISHES...

The Race has always been fun to watch and rules were inforced and working hard was rewarded. The Cowboys showed us just how well this game could be played by being good solid players who worked well together and followed the rules. I found it disheartening to watch teams gang up against the Cowboys and resort to cheating by giving out information to other teams with the direct intention of eliminating them. The producers should have stepped in and given penalties to correct that behavior. The Cowboys deserve another chance. The future integrity of this show is in jeaopardy and many of us loyal fans will not watch going forward if this wrong is not correct. Thank you Jet & Cord for making each episode you competed in this year a pleasure to watch as your team work was truly inspiring.

It's a TV show people!!!! For ratings. It's also reality TV, lest you forget. The producers make the rules, stretch them and interpret them. CBS is not concerned about how fair it looks to you all they want the advertising $$$.
The point of the race is for teams to be eliminated (key word).
Jet and Cord were a strong team and they were to use Phil's word eliminated just like other teams before them.

I like everyone else was very disappointed to see the disclosure of the measurement of LIchtenstein to other teams during the race. As I heard the instructions read, it said if you got the measurement wrong you had to go back to the beginning. I don't believe that the rules were followed when the Globetrotters were given the correct measurement but yet did not have to go back to the beginning. Had they gone back to the beginning, the fact that they already had been given the correct measurement might have been easier to take. The cowboy brothers were a pleasure to watch and root for in both races they competed in. Not once did I hear them bicker or put down any other team. True gentlemen. Two guys I would love to meet and buy a beer. The Goths are sickening to watch. How much can one guy whine.
I am very disappointed that the cowboys were allowed to be ousted when the rules were not followed. Lost a lot of respect for the Globetrotters.

No rules were broken. I blame the producers. The roadblock should have stated that you couldn't share the info. The answer was supposed to be written down, NOT discussed at the end of the ride to be overheard. Not mad at the Globetrotters for using the U-Turn (it was the right move), but I am frustrated that they (and others) were given the answers on the bike ride. I have watched the show for years, but now I am done with it. It has turned into SURVIVOR where strong people get "voted" out. The cowboys made the show great. If they had lost fairly, I would not be mad. CBS, watch your ratings drop...

I never respond to any of these blogs, but I am mad. I don't care if it is okay in the rule book for others to cheat. The cowboys did it the old fashion way. There was cheating on an episode back in the beginning where they had to decipher some plaques or something like that and some of the teams gave the other teams the answers, but not the Cowboys! I don't even think they were in it for the money. They wanted to actually play the game and win the race. The always came from behind and they always played fair. Remember the brothers that broke in line in front of them at the airport last season. The Globetrotters knew the Cowboys were the only ones behind them. They were just being petty! The Cowboys should be brought back and the others penalized.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I loved the cowboys both times they were on the show. They never fought with each other or other teams, helped sometimes, and never cheated. While giving the answers to another team may not be cheating, it was still wrong. After what happened to the Trotters the first time they raced, I was upset they chose to Uturn the cowboys instead of racing to them to the pit stop. That would have been a fair fight. So now, I'm all about Zev and Justin. Them, cowboys and Trotters were my favorites. Can't STAND Kynt and Vixin. I've never liked teams that were hateful to each other. I will always watch TAR!!!

  42. Devil's advocate

The cowboys have been on borrowed time for most of the race, whether it be due to being unable to decode the flags in the first episode, or getting on worse flights than their opponents on more than one occasion. Sharing information on TAR isn't cheating, and teams have been doing it since the beginning of the series. Some of my favorite past winners had key help during the race (I'm looking at you, Uchenna and Joyce), and very few teams have won without being in an alliance at some point.

Some legs of the race require only that you have a piece of information at the end, not a completed skeleton statue or 20 luggage tags. The measurement of Liechtenstein was one of these tasks, so teams that worked together had an advantage. If you want to argue that Gary, at least, should have had to recomplete the task, I won't argue with that.

Let's give the cowboys credit for making it this far, but they haven't been the strongest team. The fact that they didn't want to work with other teams, and that they lost to teams that did work together, actually says something GOOD about teamwork.

If everyone stops watching due to this episode, then OK, but if you're outraged by teams working together, your complaints about the show should be older than this season.

Now, we'll see which of these subpar teams wins the million this year. Hope there are some genuinely strong teams next season.

It's one thing to be strategic and give a little assistance and another to out and out cheat. The "globetrotters" did this twice. The first time they just stood around until they could hear the answer. No attempt made whatsoever. Then, for them to U-turn the cowboys? They knew they would be out. They should have been out. I don't remember the 1st place team out and out cheating but they did provide answers so the others didn't have to complete the task. Liked the father-daughter team, but there again, they were given the answer. The cowboys are the only ones to complete the tasks required and did not receive one little bit of help. Yes, bring the Cowboys back. They should be back this season, but if not, give them a chance next season - if they want it. They were treated very shabbily.

Wow! There is no way the Cowboy's should have been eliminated. It is not fair when teams share information and do not complete the tasks which is what happened last night. Phil said if you gave the wrong answer you would have to go back and start over. Jet and Cord did that....Gary and Mallory did not. This was absolutely unfair and I consider this cheating. Both of the teams in the cheat should be penalized. This is no different than taking a taxi cab when you should of walked etc. It gave the other team an advantage. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! I don't understand the point of the speed bump. I thought the intention was to penalize the team that came in last but was lucky enough to be in a non elimination round. The speed bumps have become the easiet, most ridiculous tasks that dont serve as a challenge whatsoever.

I won't watch the show any more this season. I absolutely loved the Cowboys and everything they stand for in the "Real World!" I think it's terrible that the other teams ganged up on the Cowboys and the show allowed it. If they don't change the rules for next year by stopping this ganging up of other teams, I won't ever watch the Amazing Race again. To win the million dollars you should have to figure all the legs of the race by yourself. Technically, some of the teams did not complete legs of the race because they got the answers from others. The show is well out of hand and PHIL needs to step in and turn this around or many other fans will stop watching the showl. Really ticked off. Good luck Cowboys. I think last night's leg was the most disappointing I've ever watched over the past 5(?) years. It started with the lamest extra task for Gary and Mallory (that was so easy!) and then the sharing/cheating that went on during the ride, and then the placement of a U-turn before a pit stop. Yes, I'm very disappointed that the Cowboys were eliminated, but the fact that they got eliminated when others were rewarded for NOT completing the task is what gets on my last nerve. I think the Globetrotters were smart to use the U-Turn on them, but by placing it at the end of the race it served NO purpose for that last team. Ugh! What a terrible episode. I'm not sure I'll continue watching it. I'd like the Globetrotters to win, but it looks like they need help too many times. Obviously, at some point, the other teams will stop helping them, and then the Globetrotters will be eliminated. I'd rather read about it online. Blech.

I hope that the producers take these comments to heart and change the rules. With the "information sharing" or cheating last night, the weaker teams progress, and the strongest team, Jet and Cord, who figure out how to get things done, got eliminated. I have so much respect for the cowboys' work ethic and honesty, and TAR is the loser in the end without them on it anymore.

Most disappointing episode in all the years of the Amazing Race. Phil and the producers should be ashamed of themselves for allowing the cheating to happen. I don't care who wins the race now and all these teams should be branded cheaters and be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

I don't know that I'm exactly mad at "cheating". What I am mad at is that someone didn't follow the rules. "If the wrong answer is given, the rider must go back and do it again". Gary didn't complete this condition. Yep, he should have been penalized and the outcome would have been different. Vixen and what's his name were penalized for not following the rules when they took the wrong mode of transportation. Why not Gary, etc. Coodos to the cowboys. They played fair and square. I'll miss you fellas. And, goodby to TAR for me. Broken rules and cheating do not appeal to me.

Some are saying that what happened last night isn't cheating, just "sharing of infomation." I disagree.

If Flight Time hadn't been given the answer, he would have gone to Marco with the wrong information (he admitted he didn't know how long it had been), meaning he, like Jet, would have had to go back to the start again. Same for LaKisha who listened in while Justin gave his answer, and Gary who was also told.

Any unfair time advantage gained in a race is considered cheating. It stripped Rosie Ruiz of wining the Boston Marathon, it shouldn't have been tolerated without penalty by TAR. That hour Jet had to spend that no one else did made all the difference last night.

Shame on the producers for letting it go unchecked.

Rather than having to write down the mileage on a post card, could have had them show the display on the odometer... That way atleast the teams could not have cheated. Oh well, too much for the producers to think about I guess! Yesterdays episode seemed more like the "Weakest Link" than the amazing race where you gang up to eliminate the strongest team. Sadness.

The thing I always liked about TAR compared to other reality shows is that success was built on merit, not politics or secret pacts, etc. Last night pretty much changed that with the telling of answers. How disappointing! Also, wasn't the instruction something like, "use your odometer to determine the length of Lichtenstein." Some teams did not do that, they were told the answer. Seems like a penalty is in order. I hope at least this issue is addressed on the show. Obviously, my disappointment is shared by many.

TAR has been one of my favorite shows, but this episode did it for me. I will not watch again because they allowed such blatant cheating to happen! The cowboys were my favorute team. If they had gotten eliminated due to something really bad that they did, it would be different, but this was certainly NOT fair and the globetrotters and gary should have been given penalties, which would have allowed the cowboys to still be in the race. No more TAR on my TV. As far as i am concerned , they can cancel it now before anyone wins.

That's it for me too. I will find out who won because I hope that the Globetrotters get shafted by someone they gave the answer to – Karma would be great. I think it is natural that the weak will gang up on the strong, but when you have a strong MORAL pair like the cowboys, TAR had better be ready for an enormous drop in ratings when they get shafted off the show. I'm hoping for Zev to win. As for Malory being funny, give me a break. She is painful to watch as she simpers into the camera. Her father is fine though.

I agree that there should be penalty for giving info to another team. Both teams should have a penalty, because they didn't complete the challenge by them selves. In fact why don’t three teams make an alliance at the being of the game? Take turns doing the challenges just to pass on the info to their alliance partners. Just like "Survivor". I have watched The Amazing Race from the first day it was aired and haven't missed an episode. But I will not be watching it from now on. I was so disappointed at last night's outcome of the race. I was so disappointed that Zeb and Justin would share the info with the Globetrotters and then they literally gave the answer to Gary. How unfair to those teams (like the Cowboys) that seem to play a fair game with no drama or antics along the way. I hope those teams that shared the info enjoyed the win and knowing they sent a team home by not winning the race but by cheating. Also, I don't understand the concept of the Race producers putting a double u-turn right before the pit stop. It virtually automatically eliminates any team u-turned as they have no hope of catching up – if everyone is already on their way to the pit stop and there are no more road blocks to make up the time. Very unfair night and disappointing. I love this show but not even sure I want to watch the rest of the season. Tainted for me as everyone left had some part in the cheating that sent the Cowboys home.

For Phil: I second SW's comment. Teams cheated on the Lichtenstein leg of the race. I have a real problem with cheaters possibly winning one million dollars!

As for Dook of Westminister's comment "Who cares?" he obviously cares enough to read the story. As for "Home on the Range," with his/her cutsie comment – – -.

Jet and Cord seem like really nice men who enjoyed the countries they visited and the people they met. They were always polite, never seemed to get flustered, even when in last place, and, in my book should have been first at the finish line this time.

I cannot believe that those teams that cheated were not penalized. I guess in this day and age, cheaters really do win. How sad.

Robert I agree it is not worth watching with the cowboys out. Cheating has been allowed since the beginning of this season. We thought the teams who shared the answers would be penalized for doing so, and were shocked when they were not. Every episode there has been what I would call cheating and thought sure eventually they would be penalized. When the goth couple missed their flight, and had to take another one, they were penalized 30 minutes. That rule should have applied to those sharing answers, and to the sister who lost her map. No penalty was given to her. I think it was all unfair to the cowboys. The cowboys should be brought back on the show and given a fair chance.

No one ganged up on the cowboys, Flight time pulled up and yes, they gave him the answer which isn't against the rules, not to be mean to the cowboys but because he has been a great team player and they wanted to help him, not hurt anyone else. Big Easy and Flight time never would have u-turned the cowboys unless they had no other choice so back off on those boys, they are as sweet as pie and if you haven't noticed they have hung with every team providing help when they can all the way along. Kent has got to go, that whiney little sissy climbed into the cart and Vyxin had to pull him because he is such a baby. Plus, he plays unfair so I was hoping someone would have u-turned him like he deserved to save the cowboys but I doubt anyone knew what it would come down to. Bye Cowboys, I'll miss you. Amazing Race is getting to be let down big time. Of course with all the PC crap going on nowadays, why should a couple of All American Good Old Boys be allowed to win?. Everyone knows that the "Race" ultimate winner is predetermined before the season starts. It's starting to get as cutthroat as Surviivor, a show that really sucks. Jet & Cord showed more class, courtesy, & consideration for everyone than all the other teams combined. Not a good example to show the youth of American that cheating & lying is truly acceptable and honesty, truth, and hard work will get you nowhere. Nice guys finish last, or in this case, not at all. I am no longer ging to watch the show. Another viewer lost, for what it's worth. Time to rethink the format a little and do away with the cutthroat businnes.. Leave that to Survivor, with their alliances and scheming & plotting.
