Who won the godparent sweepstakes on 'Modern Family'?Wednesday night's episode of "Modern Family" was a nice example of the show at its best. I can't say that it was one of my favorites of the season, but it was solidly scripted, with a story that (mostly) revolved around Cam and Mitchell's decision as to who should be Lily's guardians if anything happened to them. The most obvious choice were the Dunphys, with three kids of their own. Unfortunately for Phil and Claire, this decision happened to coincide with their worst parenting day ever, starting with a disastrous scene involving fire and Alex getting trapped in the garage, in front of Cam and Mitchell. Phil's cries of, "Son of Jor-El! Everybody stay calm!" didn't help matters. Not only did Claire try to sneak Luke into therapy (something Phil found out about pretty quickly, before it was pointed out that Phil and Luke have a little too much in common), but they ended up accidentally leaving him in the parking lot after his session. If that wasn't enough, Haley and Alex had to be picked up from jail after a moment of delinquent sisterly bonding. Jay and Gloria weren't looking too hot as potential godparents, either. Sure, Gloria absolutely adores Lily, but Jay was putting a little too much pressure on Manny about their upcoming camping trip. (And that was before he dropped Cameron like a hot potato on a rock climbing wall: "I'm just glad my clown training prepared me to take a fall like that.") And then Gloria made matters worse by getting Lily's ears pierced, but Manny made their case when he told Cam and Mitchell about how Jay smoothed things over about the camping trip. Needless to say, Gloria was (a bit inappropriately) thrilled at the news that she was given the responsibility: "Lily! When something awful happens, you're going to be mine!" Every cast member had some shining moments here, but I think Nolan Gould deserves the MVP for some terrific scenes of Luke's dimwittedness (did you know the actor is a member of Mensa?). What did you think? Do you agree with Cam and Mitchell's choice? And can you blame them for the Lily-as-Carmen Miranda photos? Share your iReport or comment below! |

Hopefully the god-parents will be a couple of ole gay flaming queens.
hi
Loved this episode!!! Funniest part to me was Luke's explanation of how he found his way home, "First I knew you'd come back for me....then you didn't" I literally cried haha. Good show great characters keep it comin!!
My favorite part was when Gloria commented on earrings and said she got them when she was 2 and they were huge, and Phil only heard the last part and was about to say something really incorrect, but Claire stopped him before he could. It was so quick, I almost missed it...
My favorite part will be when this shytbag show is cancelled.
I'll take of Gloria when Jay (Al Bundy) leaves with a smile.
