'All My Children,' 'One Life to Live' canceledABC has announced that the network is “evolving” its daytime offerings by canceling “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” and making room for two new shows. The two longtime staples of afternoon TV-viewing will conclude in September 2011, and January 2012, respectively. (What do you think about this? Let us know with an iReport.) So what will you be watching instead? An hour-long show all about food called “The Chew.” It’ll be hosted by “Top Chef” fan favorite Carla Hall, “Iron Chef” Michael Symon, nutrition expert Daphne Oz, “What Not to Wear’s” Clinton Kelly and Mario Batali.
According to the release from ABC, the show will cover all angles of food, examining it “as a source of joy, health, family ritual, friendship, breaking news, dating, fitness, weight loss, travel adventures and life’s moments.” That one will launch in September. The other show coming to ABC is currently being called “The Revolution,” and is focused on “health and lifestyle transformations,” the statement says. The idea is to help viewers live better lives by showing them how to “transform all areas of their lives, from relationships to family, food, style, home design, finance and more.” It will also feature one woman’s five-month weight loss journey each week, and will reveal each step of the story over five days, with a final unveiling of her total transformation on Fridays. The daily program, arriving in January 2012, will be hosted by "Project Runway's" Tim Gunn, former “Idol” contestant Kimberley Locke, and celeb trainer Harley Pasternak. The president of daytime TV at the Disney ABC television group, Brian Frons, acknowledged in the statement the impact this shift will have on viewers. “While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can’t help but recognize how bittersweet the change is,” Frons said. “We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways. I have been a faithful fan for years! Watched the 2 shows when ever I could when I first started my family and later was able to tape them while working. I really wish they wouldn't. I am 21 nd a young viewer nd I love OLTL. I watch it everyday and if I miss an episode I go to abc.com and watch it. I know a lot of other young viewers also. So while they bring in a different type of viewer they are losing a whole team of people that expect to watch these shows and have for years of their life without missing an episode. I doubt they'll be able to say that about the new shows
I am glad you have taken the two soaps off but you could put some shows that people want to watch not sure the two shows to replace the soaps sound like anything worth checking out hope you have some other shows in mind because I am afraid these two shows are going to. I hate that the networks are not paying atention to what the viewers want! WHy not just keep them on and move them to the soap net? That way those of us who LOVE our soaps can continue to watch? I bought cable just so that I could catch them if I missed them during the day on the soap net. Millions of viewers would be happy to do the same! ABC is a horrible horrible network.. I stopped watchiing any new shows on ABC after they started cancelling primetime shows in mid season and not even giving them a fair shot. My DVR is full of shows I now watch on other networks. The only two I tape are General Hospital and OLTL. If they cancel I will not watch anything on this network. This network needs to get a grip on what audiences want and more talk shows is not what America want. Nor do we want more reality TV. Just shutdown this worthless network then.

There is room on American network television for daytime drama. AMC has consistently showcased fine actors, great writing and good entertainment. It is difficult to believe that 'research' could have shown that the watching public wants yet another hour or two of self-styled celebrities shouting one another down. If ABC doesn't want AMC, why not keep it going as original programing on Soap.net or one of the other cable channels?

Like many comments already listed, I am saddened by this decision. I have watched these shows for more years than I can count and won't be a supporter of ABC Television.
So not right that they are ending these shows. Replacing them with MORE talk shows...well, Im not watching them. Yawn fest! It is interesting to observe that most of the comments objecting to cancellation are from older viewers who have been watching for a long time. (Like me.) Older viewers oftern get out of touch with what works for younger viewers. It is a mistake to think that the networks do not have a good idea what they are doing and where the appeal is. Emotional reactions without any data are not of much use except as a salve. In any event, the show has been going downhill for quite a while. It is worn out. It lost its alpha males when David Canary and Thorsten Kaye didn't go to Hollywood. Caleb is a different kind of alpha who does not bring tension to the show. JR cannot grow into the alpha role anytime soon, no matter how much the writers pretend for him. Erica is a legend but also a repeating tape. The other actors and actresses are generally good to excellent at their trade, but they are limited by the necessity of the script to be ridiculous. They will not be out of work. In the end, don't make the mistake of thinking your opinion and reaction represents that of the general public.
Jane, I'm not an older fan unless 30 is now old. I grew up watching the soaps, ABC and NBC, and I'll tell you that some of the A-listers got their start on soaps because of the "ridiculousness." I'm in that golden demo and I find this appalling. Every single person in my peerage, including across the world, are tried of reality. It's a cost thing, but what the Big Three forget is they're no longer the big guys in town. They're the little ones now. And NOT listening to their consumers (how long have people been BEGGING for scripted shows?) and telling them what they want is something else entirely.
And you may say "not the general public" but that's a tactic used to discredit the efforts used to be heard. Campaigns have worked in the past, and some have not. But the whole point is to remind those in the select portion with dollar value that we're still there. I don't expect them to keep forever. But I do expect them to allow for a better ending, to arrange story lines that satisfy the major points.
After the revenue that soap fans have created for the network, it's not unreasonable to assume they could give an extra month or so to finish up since episodes are already filled up. Not perfect, but it's reasonable in ending a show that's spanned longer than some of the execs lives.
If AMC goes, so do I. Sorry, no more ABC for this avid TV watcher. AMC has been there for me thru the years. Love to watch it and relieve all my stress! Bye, bye...
I am so sad to think you could remove "traditional" television! I watched as my Mom use to say All My Kids since I was in diapers! My daughter has grown up with the show and now I have a grand-daughter... It might be silly Soap Opera's but it something some of us look forward too! Imagine my surprise and total meltdown when they cancelled "Popeye". What was I to do with my life? Oh wait, I just had to get one! I have watched All My Children since it debuted in 1970. To replace this beloveed show to millions by some vapid cooking show and God only knows what else is absurd. ABC is making a huge mistake. It is bad enough that we are already bombarded by stupid reality TV, which is basically TV for the brainless. No longer will I have All My Children to look forward to on the weekends (I tape it during the week). All My Children tackled subjects that no one else would touch and provided a great escape from the everyday turmoil we all experience. I stopped watching All My CHildren around 2001 the storylines since then have been abysmal. All the charismatic old actors have either died or were written out for thse young actors that have no charisma whatsoever. It's about time they should have cancelled this along time ago. Secondly, although you might not like "The View", millions of viewers do.
Thirdly, ABC is a multi billion dollar company that spends huge amounts of money to research & analyze trends/ratings/viewing patterns/etc. in an effort to raise shareholder returns. Why do they do this? Because it's a business. Just like Walmart and Target. If there's something on the shelf that isn't producing good returns year over year, a store will pull that product off the shelf. This is what ABC has done with soaps. The viewership has declined year over year over year and it is no longer profitable. As such, the smart business decision was made to remove and replace with things people DO want.
So the next time you throw a temper tantrum, try parking your emotions, and looking at the situation logically and maturely. Your little fit shows that you've been watching soaps for too long, as you're over-reacting, overly emotional and acting like a drama queen character from a soap opera.

Canceling these two soaps is one of the biggest mistakes that ABC has ever made. To some these soaps are like family that we enjoy and look forward to seeing every day. They are our escape from reality. I will very much miss watching them and feel for the many people involved who will now all lose their jobs. My heart goes out to them and wish them the very best.

Because like most I have to work so I record my day time soaps daily on my DRV to watch when I have time to relax in the evening. ABC is making a big mistake cancelling these soaps! ABC will lose many watchers including myself!
Holy crap. I cant believe the outraged responses. Maybe instead of driving home during lunch to watch outdated soaps you should drive to the gym or take a yoga class or sit outside in the sunshine or ride a bike or run or walk or have a good conversation or meditate or work in your garden or have some coffee with a friend or play a game or...jeez...the list could go on and on...and hey! maybe if you did any one of those you might not have the need to escape your obviously boring life by watching soaps. Get a hobby already.
I remember when me and my frat brothers would always hover around the tv watching OLTL, Y&R, AMC after classes. And yes we watched football on Sundays as well. Even though we were poked fun at by some of our bretheren, guess who ended up with the dates on the weekend? Hint: We had better & more diverse things to converse about than typical 'jock talk'.

Hi Debbie – Don't know if you have this info for your groups already (?) but someone on the comment section of Friday's OLTL online posted this info: 1-818-460-7477 for ABC Daytime, ext. 255 for AMC and ext. 663 for OLTL. I've called several times and was quite amused that the ABC recording goes immediately to "if you are calling about ABC's announcement regarding Daytime's programming and want to leave a message about AMC or to leave a msg about OLTL.......". Apparently, there have been enough calls that they've changed their regular message to recognize the masses that are calling in !
I think ABC execs have lost their minds. If I want to see another cooking show I will turn to the food network. If my soaps are indeed cancelled, I will cancel ABC. I have blocked Fox for years, I will do the same for ABC. I will not watch a network that does not value its viewers.
Seriously another food show and the other show sounds boring as wall.Geeze there are too many of those type shows already and the information they have on these show I can get off the internet. I was reading recently that ABC isn't wanting to pay the actors the high salaries anymore. Wow, I used to watch AMC, OLTL and GH when I was in high school, loved them! I stopped watching once I left for college, this was back in 1990. I thought that these soaps would go on forever. Oh well, these new shows sound like duds, BTW, is General Hospital still around?

What about primetime? ABC had Dynasty and The Colbys; CBS had Dallas, Knots Landing and Falcon Crest. Those shows were on just once a week, but with what's going to happen, this would be better than nothing. If another network picks up both shows, great. My next worry is that ABC will just figure to get rid of General Hospital, too.
Please another network, pick them (AMC & OLTL) up. We don't need another food show.
Most American women go to Walmart; get a frozen t.v. dinner, and pop it in their microwave for twenty seconds, and that's their idea of 'home cookin'.. I agree the only reason I watched the night shows was because of my loyalty, now that is over. It started with the decision not to put V online. Now I have no reason to watch ABC at all. I grew up on these soaps it has been a tradition in my family. Now it's over... Goodbye ABC...
Honestly, the show has been on for 43 years. Do you think ABC has an obligation to run these shows until the end of time? Certainly not. Just like every other show on television, they eventually come to an end. It's just TV, folks. Instead of threatening ABC that they will lose viewers simply because they're changing their lineup, perhaps turning off the television, going outside for a nice walk, or doing some charity work for the hour you'd normally spend in your living room watching daytime drama would be a nice change of pace.

I think ABC has made a huge mistake. I've watched these shows since they started and can't beleive we're getting a food/reality show instead. There are other places those shows can be viewed. The soaps have a huge fan base which will never happen with the new shows. Good luck ABC.
Even tho I havent watched in 10 – 15 yrs its still a shame that somthing as mundane as a TV show could evoke such emotion – these shows are a great escape from reality – and a big part of alot of peoples lives over the years – the only thing in life that is certain is change....RIP OLTL AMC
What? Simply unreal....I am just heart broken knowing 2 great soaps after GH ofcourse will be cancelled. Overall I love GH more so than AMC and OTL but it will be weird not watching both soaps on channel 7 . After January it will be very different. Maybe another national channel will pick them up. Its too early for this bad news. Anything positive can happen lets keep our fingers cross.

Just terrible that ABC is throwing away a loyal audience! I will not be watching the 'new' talk shows. I've had enough of those kind of shows already. I want scripted shows with actors and characters. I like the View fine, but I don't want to watch it for three hours a day. ABC won't give a rat's backside with all the complaints about All My Children and One Life to Live being cancelled. They will NOT admit it on the record, but the soap operas are not drawung the right ratings points that ABC wants. The soap operas draw the older viewers, and the networks do NOT give a damn about the older viewers. They would rather cater to the younger viewers. I would like to hear a TV executive prove me wrong on this, but they won't. The viewing public isn't supposed to know this.

I'm a normal person. Have a home, job, I cook , clean, go out with friends. I also have all the stress's in life. These shows, silly and unreal as they get at times, just give me a little get away and something to look forward to everyday. I watched OLTL with my mom when I was in kindergarden–it was like "our time". No, I didn't know what was going on but I was with my mom. As for the people out there who say "Get a Life" or whatever , I'm sure you have your vises and are in no way better than others to judge. I'm sure it's the almighty dollar. Soaps don't bring it in anymore. During this time of economic downturn, I'm sure all the longterm employees of these shows appreciate being back out looking for jobs that simply are not there. Funny, where are all the viewers going to come from to watch these new shows? They are too busy working a job or already invested in another show on cable....No AMC or OLTL to watch or DVR.
I've been a loyal AMC fan for years and am sad to hear that it's been cancelled. But all things must come to an end and we have to move forward. Thank you for many great years ABC – I've enjoyed the ride.

This decision makes me physically sick. I have been hearing the rumors for a long time now, but NEVER thought they would kill both the shows!! I have watched AMC for over 20 years and OLTL for about 10. I always told myself that if they cancelled one of them, I'd at least have the other and maybe see some of the actors pop up again. This breaks my heart. For years my soaps have been the highlight of my day. True soap fans know the characters inside and out... we have history with them and are disappointed to miss even a day! I always pictured myself sitting in a nursing home when 90 years old gathering in the lounge to watch my soaps! Soaps are a genre that can bond generations of women together.... it is the only thing that my grandmother, mother and I can genuinely relate to without a huge gap! I honestly feel like someone died... these characters are like family! I have spend an hour or two every single day getting to know them and following their lives. There are special networks for shows about FOOD AND LIFESTYLE. Why take away shows that still have an audience! Why add 2 shows that are similar to hundreds already out there?? I NEVER thought these shows would come to an end. I hoped that I would watch them with my daughters someday! I hope these new shows tank. I also hope some other network saves these soaps and that ABC will get a big I TOLD YOU SO kick in the face. I will NOT watch abc daytime once these shows are gone. Such a poor decision, clearly disrespectful to all fans of soaps. They talk about honoring viewers.. I don't think so.... a double blow??? Take a very loud hint ABC – the amount of responses here are just the tip of the fallout iceberg. People are tired of reality, talk and cooking shows. People watch TV programing to escape the stress of there own lives. After more than 40 years these characters have become like family to thousands of people around the country. Your attempt to get more ratings by doing this will have horrific results for your company. OLTL was the only show I watched on daytime ABC. Not only are you making a terrible mistake in programming your devastating the hundreds of people emplyed by the shows themsleves. You are creating job losses not only for the actors but the support staff as well. No wonder NYC is in an uproar over this idiotic move. Perhaps you should talk to your loyal TV viewers of over 40 years instead of some marketing department's directors who have no clue what the viewing public wants!

ABC is going down hill anyway. They have very few good programs. I've been watching OLTL AMC, and GH from the begining of each of the shows. If they take OLTL and AMC off I will not be watching ABC at all. Like we don't have enough talk shows and cooking shows out there? Maybe they should replace them with some more of the "paid program shows". I'm sure those would be more interesting then the garbage they are using to replace OLTL and AMC>

I will absolutely not one bit not watch the new shows, frankly they sound awful, but taking off 2 of longest soaps ever, frons has done nothing for soaps for abc. He hired the same writers that wrote for the last of GL, and ATWT ,The writers were horrible, and before them it was writers that did not care about the history of the show. These ppl are saying soaps are being like a dinosaur,they are wrong. There is so many ways ppl do watch soaps, on i phones,computers, dvr , soapnet.I truely wish and hope Agnes Nixon can find a place for our soaps .Again I will turn my tv off of abc daytime when amc and oltl go off, period!

Not only has ABC not taken in account the number of loyal fans that actually do watch, but we DVR because we are working, they think a cooking show and a health show will get more viewers. As a long time fan of both soaps, I am ashamed that ABC is doing this. Brian Frons is past his prime, and needs to be let go from his duties as well as everyone else he has backing him up. And if you want a food talk show go to the Food Network. Leave our soaps alone. But I for one will boycott ABC and all their subsidaries as well as any sponsor that does NOT help save our shows. This is an outrage and Brian Frons needs to be removed from power NOW. He doesn't care that his network will suffer and if that's a man you want running your daytime programs then your mistaken about how the viewers feel.
Just think. The day is coming to a welcome end where viewers think that they can live their lives like the soaps. Where adultery, multiple marriages, no obvious employment, lying, cheating, unknown baby-daddies, kidnapping, assault, the dead resurrected, split personalities etc. are all in a "normal" day. I am so disappointed and outraged over All My Children's cancellation. How are the ratings calculated? Many folks still watch AMC and OLTL. There is enough programming for the young folks. Please don't take away a show that so many of us enjoy and watch regularly. ABC, there is already enough Food and Talk shows. Please don't give us more. I for one will NOT watch them.
The current ABC daytime president has never been a friend to the soaps he has been in charge of. His lack of respect for the genre, its fans and the creativity involved in producing a quality product has come through loud and clear on many occasions. My guess is that for awhile now, his agenda has been to get rid of daytime dramas. He was put in charge of Soapnet and that is ending next year. But soap fans are the customers who all sponsors want because are soap fans are among the most loyal viewers and consumers around. You will never get decades of loyalty for any cheap reality show. And let's not forget that soap fans made Dancing with the Stars what it is. For the first season, no one wanted to be on that show. Then they got General Hospital's Kelly Monaco signed on and she brought the ABC soap fans with her. It was a ratings hit and she won the first season. So the fans – the viewers – are there and they are a force to be dealt with. But I don't think that the current ABC daytime president cares. He wants what he wants and he is going to do it – common sense and the good of the corporation be damned. Ego comes before what is best for the company, the sponsors, the viewers and the shareholders.

BAD BAD DECISION I have watched one life to live on and off since I was a baby and watched it religiously since I was 11.I know alot of teens who watch this show and SOAPS are watched by most of the age range from 10-90 so taking of a SOAP for shows that have been done 1,000 times over is a plain BAD DECISION they are going to regret this ABC will plummet after this there ratings will go down immensely.
Well let's see....they are replacing soap operas with a reality show–so instead of well spoken, well dressed people we can opt to watch ignorant, foul-mouthed, who's your daddy, I married my cousin loud mouths–no thanks!

I'm sure ABC certainly appreciates all you fans and your loyalty to these shows, but folks, get a grip. They're just TV shows. Why don't you take all that energy you're using to cry about the cancellation of these TV shows and put it to good use. Get out of the house and do some volunteering. There are seniors out there that need help with grocery shopping, or maybe just a ride to the doctor's office, or maybe you can volunteer to deliver food to shut-ins. If you've got small kids so your time is limited then just put them in the stroller and go take a walk – you'll do more good for your own health and for your kids by doing that then sitting in front of the TV! Start your own home business. In that hour you used to spend watching Erica marry AGAIN, maybe you could earn enough to pay down some bills, or treat your family to a night out, or just put some money away for a nest egg. While you're sitting at home watching someone else's fantasy life you're letting your own life slip away. We've all only get one go at life. Don't waste it bemoaning the cancellation of a TV show!

Hey Erb...it may just be TV shows to you but these soaps are a great escapism for us who want to get away from the real world! They are put on by wonderful actors, cast and crew who work very hard every day for us! Is it right to just cancel their livelihoods like this? Most of us have lived through these soaps for 40 plus years and we have grown to love the stories and the people who work at these hard jobs! And you make it sound like soap watchers don't work or are doing other good things in our lives....YOU ARE SO WRONG! You can't just blanketly put us all under your narrow-minded umbrella! I've watch All my Children and One Life to Live since I was a little girl and now I'm 41. I really thought ratings determined the success of daytime television. Who wants another cooking show??? I can watch those on serveral different cable networkS 24 hours a day. I was shocked when I went online and read that AMC and OLTL were being cancelled. I lost my job in 2007 and started to watch this programs again. I usually watch at night on soapnet while I'm doing exercise or cooking. In the day I'm doing things and I do not have time to watch TV. I only watch AMC, OLTL, and GH at night thats the only thing that is good in TV to watch at night. I stopped watching Greys Anatomy and Private Practice to watch AMC, OLTL, and GH. I love these programs I can forget about everything that is going on in the world for three hours. It keeps my mind off all the bad things now a days. I guess I'm only have GH to watch and LMN and the pay channels (uverse) because everything else sucks in TV. Also I heard that soapnet is being replaced by a Disney channel. It really sucks!!! All the producers at ABC suck and are bunch of idiots!!!! They do not care about the viewers.
So to recap:
You've been unemployed for 4 years and yet you're "too busy" during the day to watch tv. And you need 3 hours a day of soap opera watching to escape from the pressures of ... ? And without an income for 4 years, you still have pay channels.
My my my. Somebody needs a reality check so here you go:
Cancel the pay channels – you have no job and these are not a necessity.
Take the money you'll save from the cancellation of the pay channels and put it towards your job search.
Finally, take the 3 hours you wasted every day in front of the tv watching soap operas and put that energy into getting a job (buy a good outfit to interview, volunteer – it looks great on a resume, go back to school and upgrade your skills, learn to use appropriate language (ie: remove "you suck" from your repertoire).
Once you accomplish the above, you'll get your self-respect back and you will no longer need a 3hr tv escape with mindless drivel.
Now that you've had your hissy fit, get on with acting like a responsible adult.

I am often not feeling well due to chronic illness and these two shows are one of the source of my comforts! One person said BS and I agree!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you ABC! These ridiculous shows have long since passed their prime. By getting rid of them, you'll draw in far more viewers ... the viewers who never had interest in soaps, and there are just as many of us as there are soap opera viewers. Everyone here should take a cue from Susan Lucci. In interviews discussing the end of the show, she has expressed excitement about new beginnings and moving on. Do the same. I too watched this show as a kid with my grandmother. So? I'll always have those memories. Just because YOU think this is the worst thing to happen doesn't mean the rest of the population feels the same.

No! No! No! I have so many happy memories of watching 'All My Children' in high school and college. The shows they are replacing them with sound like any number of other cable food and 'lifestyle shows', in other words they are a dime a dozen. With dvr's so popular, I find it hard to believe lots of viewer's aren't recording these shows to watch later. They are doing this to save money, that's all. RIP, AMC!

This is truely unamerican. Awww well!!! People in charge always find a way to mess up everything else, so why not the best two day- time Soaps? this was down right hurtful and depressing for me to log on to the entertainment News and see that my favorite two Soap Operas are being canceled. Replaced with Food shows!!! that is really stupid, and I will never turn my TV to any other show that ABC schedule, and thats my earnest promise...Should be ashame to even bring something as this to the PEOPLE. I only watch Day time TV, nothing else on but reruns and rerun movies thats not worth watching. I wait for the Season when Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol are schedule because those are the only two shows I watch at night. This would be doing a huge disservice to so many TV Soap Watchers.

I have been watching these soaps since I was young and faithfully record them on a daily basis to watch after work. This is so MESSED UP. I have been watching AMC since the beginning of time. And OLTL since 1975 I cannot believe ABC is doing this, big mistake. Someone needs to be fired. When Kelly Ripa talked about it this morning it made me cry. It's the ned of an era.
I think the impact that these soaps has had on its viewers is obvious. As you can see by these comments, the viewers of AMC and OLTL have all been turned into overly emotional, histrionic, melodramatic, over-reacting drama queens. Funny how life imitates art.

To cancel is bad news to me. I have watched it forever, and will not watch anything that replaces it, or any other soap. AMC is the best, and the only soap I do or ever have watched. It moves fast enough that it doesn't get borning, unlike the other one following AMC. To cancel is a BIG MISTAKE, and turns me off for any other show ABC might broadcast.
I have not watched either show in years but it still saddens me to think of shows that I grew up watching with my mom are going to no longer be on. Daytime TV for me now consists of PBS or Nickelodeon when the tv is on for my young daughter but it kind of saddens me that she'll never get to see the corny cheeseball shows that I used to watch with her grammie.
The new CHEW show will probably have recipes for corny cheeseballs, so it's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I am so very disappointed about All My Children getting cancelled. I've watched it from the beginning and tape it when I'm not home. The actors are fantastic and the storylines are great. It took me months to get used to Adam leaving last year and Zak this year. Opal's humor is priceless. Erica is a never aging gem who can express every emotion possible. She looks great in jeans and stunning in gowns, especially all her wedding gowns. I will treasure each episode until the last.....:( 🙁 🙁 🙁
The new ones are a lot cheaper to make, it's ensemble talent so they don't have to pay them much, if they get uppty they get the boot and another co-host gets dropped in, they can re-tool if the ratings tank, product placement leads to advertising revenue + you can bet these shows will essentially be 60 minute commericals for tons of products. They are laughing at their viewers (if they have any) because the program exexs think they are genius. Viewers are product to package and sell.
Want it to end? Don't watch. If they get a one share they'll dump them in a year or two.
ABC has devastated me! I have not missed one single episode since June of 1980. It is taped everyday and I watch it while I eat supper.
How could you make this big move to a bigger studio so you could "have all those nice new sets", and uproot the actors that moved in good faith all the way to the west coast and now just dump them? How could you? We lost some great actors and characters by the move as in Joe Martin, Adam, and Zach. We fans adjusted and waited to see what great things and stories were gonna come from it all. Now look. A cooking show? Oh paleezzzz! There is NOT one soap fan that is going to go along with that. How totally boring. I guess you were just trying to make it sound like that would be a great thing. Well wake up and smell the roses, no one will be watching, at least us fans wont.
The sad thing about writing all this is it will mean nothing to the powers that be. It is merely a place set up to let "us" vent. ABC will lose a fan on that sad day. I wont even be watching ABC news anymore. You will have lost at least this one. I will be mailing my bar of soap to Brian too!!!
My first reaction when I saw the tag line was... Well that has to be a mistake. Yes a lot of women do work as do I, but thanks to channels like soap net and DVR I have a chance to visit Pine Valley everyday. I know it is a little silly and trite but I have come accustomed to these "characters" being in my life. They will be sorely missed and if anyone at ABC has any sense left about them they will reconsider this huge mistake, AMC is the only show on ABC that I watch, once it is gone I will be too. Okay I am going to go watch AMC on my DVR
AMC & OLTL have been part of my life & I've been loyal for 40 years! I think they are underestimating the number of network viewers who's loyalty you will loose to your network over all. It is especially devastating at a time when everything else in this country is going to hell in a hand basket! It's akin to announcing that there will no longer be ice cream! I for one, will be turning to another channel day & night!
As a lifelong OLTL watcher and fan, I am very sad. The citizens of Llanview are my TV family. Sad to see so many jobs lost and beloved characters disappearing. Best wishes to all involved. Thanks for so many years of midday diversion and entertainment. My lunchbreaks going home every day at one o'clock to give our dogs a bathroom break and myself a pause from the workday grind have been made much nicer with the likes of the Buchanans, the Lords and the younger incoming characters. And mostly to Viki, as played gloriously by Ms. Erika Slezak, thanks for so many greaty story lines!
i've been a fan since the shows have been on. i raised my children then retired while watching All My Children and One Life To Live I can"t beleive ABC is doing this to daytime tv this is like a family to some of us what about the actors jobs Starr has been on One Life To Live all her life! i hope you'r new shows fail and any thing else you put in that slot time

I have mostly watched AMC but also have watched OLTL. The writing on AMC has been lousy for years now. It's ABC's fault the show has not done well. Many people have begged for ABC to find better writers to come up with new story lines instead of repeating story lines. The other thing is ABC does TO MUCH RECASTING, so much so that it's more like tuning in ALL MY STRANGERS. I also have enjoyed OLTL and can't they have canceled both. They might as well cancel GH too. Unless they don't cancel these shows, I WILL NOT WATCH ANYTHING ON ABC ONCE AMC & OLTL HAVE GONE OFF THE AIR.
I saw the very first episode of All My Children and have never missed a day yet, if I'm not home I tape it, also OLTL.

I can't believe they are really cancelling these shows! Not that I mind. I used to watch both of them while I was going to school in the 70's. Although both shows dealt with current life issues, they were way too dramatic to be believable. If all that action really were to happen in a person's life, we would all have to be locked up either in jail or a nut house from going crazy. They gave young actors a way to hone their craft and sent many off to great success. They will be missed, but shows with a healthier theme make a healthier impression on the viewers.
For me that is the precise reason I watch them.......to get away from reality a little bit. I watch TV to be entertained if I want to be informed or educated there are avenues for that as well. But soaps are just that, they are fun, humorous, silly, no one that is a fan takes any of it seriously and thats the point, however after watching a show for over 30 years you can not help but feel a connection. PFFT I am very sad
I don't think we need anymore food shows, but it is about time these senseless soap operas were taken off. They glamorize promiscuity, unplanned pregnancy, unwed mothers, adultery, and generally make women look like total idiots.

I too grew up on these "stories" and whoever says "we" can get off our fat bum now, or get a life, i HAVE a life, I am a nurse, and I LOVED unwinding to my stories. Althought i don't watch All my Children and One life to live anymore .It is very sad that they are taking them off for food show we have enought food shows. I think it is horrible that you are doing this .
Two important points. When Star Trek was canceled in the second season back in the sixties, fans mounted a letter writing campaign which saved the show. If you want to see these shows continue then the fans need to mount an effective campaign. Write, Email and fax the producers. Second point; When Oprah could not get the deal she wanted and Howard Stern was being muzzled they simply changed mediums. The producers could move the shows to cable. Remember, Bay Watch failed on network TV but became an international hit when it was put into syndication! It does not have to be over if the fans don't want to lose these shows. My opinion? These are some of the best training grounds for up and coming actors and it would be a shame to lose them. I say fight! Post the email addresses, fax numbers and physical addresses of the networks and producers and mount a fan based campaign.
What a shame. I watch them faithfully and have no interest in what they are replacing them with. Just lost me as a viewer and I guess I'll have more time for other things.

Personally, I'm a DOOL fan, but I can relate to all of you fans losing your show. They have threatened to cancel Days twice, but the fans rallied and internet viewings increased which drove up ad sales. The only TV that I watch now is Days online. You all might try that avenue. Maybe it can save your shows too! I really hope they don't cancel them. Soap operas are an American tradition.
If I wanted to watch the shows that you are replacing AMC and OLTL with I would watch cable/satellite. I am really tired of talk/reality television. This makes me very sad – I have watched this show my entire life. As a kid I watched with my Mom. Why did they move the entire cast to LA only to cancel the show. So many lost jobs, lives upset. We do not need anymore Dr. Shows or reality. First we lose Oprah and now these two great shows.
The execs got this wrong; in fact most are so tired of talk shows. Very few are worthy of watching, and one can get all the information from the internet. ABC has ruined a good show; many of us work and record our soaps to watch at night. I for one will never watch more talk shows. I will instead rely on a good book for my drama entertainment.

I grew up on these shows and watched them after school and during the summers but lost interest years ago. They got kind of boring and ridiculous. Really. I mean I think Erica married everyone in Pine Valley once or twice, even her own daughter...or was it her long lost daughter from her formerly dead lover that thought she was her twin?
I am very disappointed in ABC. I have been watching abc for many years which is channel 4 in Washington State. and the reason because it has three good soap operas. My favorite outside of General Hospital is One Life to Live. I have been watching it for 40 years out side of the days I had to miss it to work or take kids somewhere. I am 71 years old and I do not want to watch another food or health show. We have enough of those.I hate to say it but there are going to be other shows outside of ABC I am going to watch. Heck Sponge Bob is better then watching another food show or Health show. I watch Iron chef on another channel and believe me go to your cable and see how many food show and health shows are on. I am very unhappy about the change. It amazes me that people would want to spend so much time watching shows about food, You can't taste it or smell it and most of the time it's made with a bunch of stuff you don't even have in your house. Health shows are great but enough already, I can find one almost anytime of the day . Upside to this is one less hour a day I sit in front of the TV!
Well, guess I can go to work tomorrow and burn all the Super Soap Weekend items in storage since there is now no way those are coming back to Disneyworld. I believe in Watls vision at work, not the executives money grubbing that goes on there now. My opinion which is covered by the First Amendment.
What is wrong with you people? Do you not realize that there are individuals out here that either have medical disabilities or are elderly that have been watching these shows for many years and in many cases this is their only form of entertainment and feel really connected to these actors? These people are their family. Keep the new food shows on their own channels. Give us a break.

I find this move to be utterly ridiculous and an asinine decision all around. I grew up watching One Life To Live and I can honestly say that when One Life goes off the air that will be the last day that I tune into ABC Daytime.
I know you people are not telling ME that I need to go out and volunteer or get a life because I'm upset that OLTL is getting cancelled? I DVR it and watch it every single night. I grew up watching it with my mother and grandomother. I ALSO watched it while I was stationed in IRAQ!!! I have a pretty hectic life as an Iraqi veteran, full time student and mother. I DO volunteer at many events. YOU shouldn't judge people you don't know. I have one vice and my soap is a part of my daily routine. It' really sad that this is happening and that people who don't watch are passing judgement on those that do. Only time I got into 'em was when Rick Springfield played Dr. Noah Drake on General Hospital and I didn't watch all that regularly even then. Most soaps, in my opinion, are just mindless. Basically, the opiate of the TV viewer. They create these unrealistic 'romantic' characters that no regular person can ever measure up to. So perhaps this move to more useful and practical programming may be better in the long run? Who knows?

These shows are old school now. I grew up watching these with my mom, its about time they got rid of these soaps now away with the rest. Most of the people commenting are older which is why you're so upset but as a 19 yr old girl living on my own, id much rather come home and watch one of these new shows. If I am home at all. Its all about health these days. Which is much more needed then a lame drama show. Have you looked around at people in America? They need to get off their ass and exercise and start eating right. People these days are so careless. Im all for a healthier America! It makes me sad to see fat parents with fat kids. What a waste of a life. Shortened by being overweight which could have been prevented. But the parents were too busy sitting on their ass eating bon bons with a tissue crying over Erica canes useless life.
They're trying to keep up to keep the younger viewers watching. And I personally think this is a great business opportunity. If the old people quit viewing, you won't be missed, because a younger viewer like me will take your place. OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW!!!!

Brian Frons has spent the last several years trying to destroy these shows. The writing was so bad (because BF was dictating the plot lines) that I quit watching a couple of years ago.
The replacement shows sounds like a snoozefest. I certainly will not be tuning in. Personally, I hope the replacement shows tank and BF gets what he deserves.

I was a huge fan of both OLTL and AMC until a few years ago when they started to lose it for me, so I turned to the Young and the Restless on CBS. Truly the best soap still on TV. That's the way to give it to ABC daytime; leave them for another network. Watch CBS ratings rise and ABC ratings drop like a ton of bricks! For all the soap fans that need their daily fix, Y&R can fill that void. And, if soaps are going the way of dinosaurs, at least there will be one soap left for us all to watch. Who knows, maybe some of the great talent from OLTL and AMC will end up cast on Y&R. So, tune in to The Young and the Restless on CBS at 12:30 everyday. As for ABC, what do expect from a network run by Mickey Mouse!
I cant believe what I am hearing....cant believe no more soaps...look forward everyday to coming home and watching my soaps .. I cant even imagine the soaps not being on...40 + years..are you kidding me ...and to all you men dogging on the soaps .. i dont have a fat ass I work everyday..and clean my house and take care of my husband and son..and the dog. & cat ....I feel for sure to say ABC will be history in my house....
ABC just lost another viewer...What will this do to the Daytime Emmys? What will they be all about now that ABC is determined to drop two of the best soaps EVER in daytime tv?....game shows, talk shows & reality TV? bring back our soaps, they might be campy, plot lines that are unrealistic but that is what i enjoyed about watching them, they were a fun escape from the everyday. i have been watching both these shows since i was 11 and that is about 20 years now and it's truly sad to see them come to an end. tiic are making a grave mistake replacing them with these idiotic talk shows. bring back our soaps or risk looking what is left of your daytime audience.
Two things: One, I'm just guessing but I'll bet these shows have an older demographic and it remains a mystery to me why advertisers are all about appealing to young people even if older ones have the money. Second, it's all about the money. Soaps are more expensive to produce. But the fictional people in soaps are exceptional–maybe good, maybe bad, but not the mediocrity of the people glorified in most reality shows. The only thing that makes most of them exceptional is the fact that they're ON a reality show. And frankly, food shows are overwhelming all the time slots already. Sad to see these shows, which my late grandmother listened to on radio and then watched on tv, go
You're right about it being all about money. You miss the mark on who spends it. Why do you think surveys are limited to a certain age bracket? The cutoff is somewhere in the 50s. The young might not have the money but they do spend it. The older you are, the less you need more stuff so you don't spend your money on more stuff. ABC wouldn't have cut these soaps if there was still growing money in them. Just how many new viewers do you think they pick up when there is a continuing story line that continues to be the same rehash of what has been seen over and over and over. Just how many marriages, cheaters, killers, baby daddys, kidnappings can you make interesting? It's all about numbers and obviously the numbers aren't there. Can't wait to see what the future brings!

This is so ludacris!!! I Don't understand what the hell ABC is thinking?? These are timeless classics that we all have grown up with & turned too daily for an escape of our own drama. & they are saying they were started for all the at home moms back in the 60's & now most women work.. but what about those of us who still believe in staying home & raising our children?? Not to mention ever heard of Tivo & DVR??? Every working woman I know looks forward to getting home from work & kicking back to see what took place in Pine Valley today, or they tune into Soap Net. Do those ratings not apply??? & lets also think of the huge crop of amazing actors & actesses that get their starting roles on these daytime dramas where they are molded & learn the biz before moving on to the big screen.This is like a stepping stone for them from commercials to soaps to primetime, what will happen to that industry??? I know 1things for sure, I am going to start bombarding abc with my disgust in their poor choices & then when the time comes... I WILL NEVER turn to their network during the day again!!!! I have watched AMC since I was in college. I have watched every episode! Even when we lived in Korea for 3 years I had a friend video tape it every day and mail it to me every couple of weeks! I will not be watching ABC any more. If it moves to another affiliate I will be most appreciative.

I am saddened by this decision. I will NOT be tuning in to ABC's replacement shows when they take OLTL off their network. I have been watching this show for more than 30 years. I look forward to watching each day when I get home from work and I am NOT interested in watching cooking shows or anything else if it means ending OLTL.

I have watched since the beginning with breaks for going back to work. But from 1989 to 2008 I recorded it every day. I walked on my treadmill every night for an hour of complete escape to Pine Valley, PA. Since retiring in 2008 I am a caregiver to a bipolar and disabled sister and I have watched every day as an escape from my "caregiver" life. I see other posts that say people will not watch ABC anymore. I can't say that but I can tell you that I am SICK SICK SICK of reality shows and your food show and health show will go unwatched by me. I am 68 and I truly do not want to watch a food show when I could be watching All My Children and escaping. You are definitely not in tune to the AMC fan base nor do you care about your audience. Shame on you !!!!!!!!!!

I am completely bummed that AMC and OLTL have been cancelled. I am 41 years old and have watched my entire life. (My Mom watched when I was kid.) I work a full time job and I would watch at night until they took SoapNet away. I take my lunch at 2pm each day so I can watch OLTL every day. I’m not interested in another “Food” show. I will not be watching at all. I hope the network has realized just how many loyal viewers there are and how many will be TUNING OUT! I know I will.
NOOOOO! AMC and OLTL have been my favorite show since I was in high school! It is the only thing I watch on TV...except for the news or movies. I cannot stand those stupid reality shows/ talk shows etc. While I understand that money drives this, couldn't there be a better way to keep the shows going? Move them to nighttime...sell it to FOX...anything...but please don't cancel them! Those shows touch on some pretty important topics...the bullying segment is incredible. I think you're making a big mistake by canceling these shows. You're selling out.

I am all for change but I must admit, I'm not looking forward to two of the most iconic soap opera's cancellation. I grew up watching AMC an OLTL with my grandmother so not only are they wonderful show's that have never failed to entertain but they have sentimental meaning.

I HATE this!!!! ive been watching oltl since i can remember with my mom and grandma. it used to be our daily ritual, but with DVR it is now our nightly ritual. i have grown up with Starr Manning basically (im 4 yyrs older than the character). thi s is a travesty! i propose a complete abc blackout on monday, april 18th. nothin gon ABc, not even you local news. tune out from 12am till 1159 pm this monday to prove our point! take our soaps lose your viewers completely! also send soap to save our soaps! give brian frons and abc/disney enough soap to last until they bring our soaps back!

ABC has filled its roster of offerings with game shows, food shows, talk-talk-talk shows, and has single handedly forced me into Cable. The ONLY time I turn on to network tv is to watch AMC and OLTL. They actually provide the highlight of my day! See, I am an invalid, my six children are grown and These Shows provide me with a sense of family and closeness. You know you are required to provide so many hours per week of children's tv; why not provide a few hours per week for the baby boomers (whose numbers are large, and whose purses are still spending), with programing of their own.?
My own personal thought is how many damn talk shows do we actually need??? Daytime television is really starting to suck.
I have been watching All My Children for about 28 years. It is some what surprising that it is going off the air. But. it doesn't surprise me too much. In the last few months it has seemed to draw out their story lines. A person can miss a few episodes and catch up real quick. It has been enjoyable but, not won't be too greatly missed.
I am so upset over this. I love OLTL. I can't believe they are doing this to a show that has been on the air since before I was born. MY Mom and I watch it together every night on our DVR. Except for General Hospital, I will no longer be watching any ABC shows once these 2 go off the air. ABC please do not cancel these shows. I do watch Wipeout, Castle and Dancing with the stars, but starting today I will not be watching them anymore.

If TV would cancel Guiding Light.......which started on radio & went longer than ANY other soap....then ALL soaps have become fair game. Too bad they weren't more creative with their new shows. I really don't agree with ABC in your choice of cancelling those shows. First i really don't believe that they don't pay enough...Second, All my children had gotten so much better in the last 3-4 years...I had stopped watching it for a while (after watching it for 10 years) because of the way everything was always coming back to the same thing many years ago...but a lot of progress had been made. Those actors are excellent and we can feel that they really like their jobs. Even if it sounds "kitchy", they had become like my family...I love them so much! Also i think it's really, extremely cheap on the part of ABC to have made them move to L.A. last year and to finally cut the show. I'm sure that most of the actors have made trumendous changes and difficult choices in their lives because of that...Even if you hadn't made any promises to them...IT REALLY IS TOO SAD! I really hope that you change your mind about this...this show is excellent and if people don't take the time to watch this show, they won't take the time to watch the new ones...and by the way, there are a few bad shows that you could cut off instead of all my children... And for all the "All my children" actors, WE LOVE YOU!!! and if you really are cut off...we will never forget you...you are and will always be the best!

While all those fired up over the cancellations are vowing to never watch ABC again, you won't be missed as they start counting all the NEW viewers to afternoon TV that they will gain. If you don't know what is going on in a soap, you will more than likely never watch it. Thus new viewers to a soap are few and far between. Afternoon TV needs to be something you can walk away from and return to without feeling like you missed out on pieces vital to understanding what the show is all about. GOOD GOING ABC.

Daytime TV is getting redicious. TAlk Show and Reality Shows are taling over everything. I grew up watching GL, AMC, And OLTL. This will just make me Boycott the network evene more. Hopefully ShopeNew will consider picking some of the Daytime Soaps and consider running them on ther network. I would watch them faithfully.
These networks do not give a damn about what their viewers want. It's all about themselves, reality shows are taking over tv and putting an end to shows we've come to enjoy for many years. Yes some don't care because they weren't the ones watching them. Don't think that just because those of us who enjoy watching daytime dramas are lazy, fat or anything of that nature. Oh no, please don't cancel my show. I have been watching since the beginning. Sometimes I have to tivo it but I always watch it. I talk about it with my daughter in law over the phone. She has to work and has 2 kids so sometimes I have to catch her up on it. I would not watch another food show or talk show. I would rather have my 1 hour diverson where I sit down and watch. I hate that you moved to LA and lost some good actors. I miss ZACK But Dr Grif is georgeous. I used to watch him on Guiding Light, with my Mom. Good times.
It would be great if OWN picked up these shows. I would have to pay for an additonal package to get OWN from by cable provider but I would be willing do it for OLTL. ABC is making a big mistake in forsaking their regular demographic by replacing these shows. The new programming is something we can watch on other networks but won't be watching on yours. Somehow I just can't beleive any of us soap watchers will be interested in more cooking and health shows.

This is very sad, I am 24 years old and I have been watching these shows since I can remember. My grandma has been watching AMC since it started and so has my dad. I personally am tired of reality type tv shows! And like another person commented if we wanted to watch a cooking show or something about healthy living we would watch channels for that. I will no longer watch anything on ABC not even Grey's or Private Practice. I will be switching to NBC to watch Days of Our Lives.
Time to get off the couch and get busy with real living. For those who drove home for lunch just to watch, think of all the money and gas you'll save.
Whenever I have watched AMC, there has come a time in the story(?) when I could walk away because it became so-o-o-o predictably boring. Now is the perfect time to call it quits with kidnapping, lying killer minister, baby switching, jealous wife/ex-wife/fake wife and countless boring characters is so not interesting to watch. Good luck trying to write an ending that will hold anyone's interest.

A lot of people need to be fired and the higher up the corporate ladder the better. The whole board of Disney should resign. They should cancel GH,is nothing but Gangster Central. There is some very good acting on both AMC & OLTL. Some episodes are lousy, others are terrific. The fault lies not with the writers but the execs. We have enough food shows. Right now there is only one primetime show on ABC worth watching which is the fault of the execs. ABC has had some great shows, but for each there are two dozen that are crap. Cancel ONTL are there will be one less show to watch and the sponsors WON"T be selling me products I don't see advertised.
While I never watched either show, I do feel bad for those who did. It just seems that we are losing another connection to our past. I think that there are already way too many "self improvement" shows on the air. Bet the new ones won't last very long. People do get a bit tired of being told how they should live their lives.

Well ABC Daytime lost this viewer. GH is mob central and nothing but plot point and it now centers on 4 characters with the rest begging for a minute or two a week. I refuse to watch or dvr anything on ABC Daytime. I hope this backfires bigtime and Frons finally gets fired.

One Live to Live is the best soap period. It has brilliant writing and acting. My mom has watched since the beginning and I have watched since 1996! We will not be watching the replacement shows.

I just can't believe it...When I heard the news that All My Children was being canceled I almost dropped right then. I have been watching this show since the beginning and I can remember times in my life using this as an escape and comfort from what was going on in my own life. I have not always been there to watch but I could record the shows and have for years. Finding out about the cancellation is like finding out about a DEATH in the family. I really think this will be a BIG mistake for the network. I watch some cooking shows but I definitely won't be watching them on ABC...Good luck to your network I (as well as many I suspect) won't be watching ABC after the last All My Children episode airs.

I feel for the the AMC and OLTL fans. I am a huge GH fan and will still continue to watch ABC for this soap, but should they even think of canceling this soap I will definitely never watch this network again. How many food, health and realty shows do we need. It'sannoying now. There is no one out there that can write an entertaining series anymore. What is the point of watching TV these days.
I have never been more dissapointed than I am today! Actually, I am in mourning!! How can ABC cancel AMC and One Life to Live. I just reviewed ALL programming on ABC – and I do believe I will be able to ban ABC from my life without cutting off my nose to spite my face. Looks like all I will miss would be Good Morning America and Ellen Degeneres!! I'm sure I watch Good Morning America because it follows my local news since we only have one TV Station here in my home State. I think this is a sad mistake. The only reason people are not watching it during the day is they have the option to watch it at night or on the net! I am only 30 and I still watch, and so do all of my friends! I do work during the day so I watch it at night. Before soapnet was availale, I recorded it!!! If they take General Hospital off, I will be mad for a long time and probably will not watch any shows on ABC for a while, if ever again. Hopefully the numbers of 2.5 million viewers for All my Children will not be the same for some dumb cooking show!

My GF sometimes watches these and it makes my skin crawl. The drama is so overdone and so fake it's ridiculous and all of the character are absolute jerks, backstabbers, and losers. They've all been married to each like 14 times and all had like 27 miscarriages. They all had affairs with each other like every combination possible. I just don't get it. I can almost understand reality tv but this stuff is just crap IMO.

While I admit I don't get how any viewer could be "destroyed and devastated" by this news, I love how the gleeful detractors here are convinced that everyone who watches a soap is uneducated and jobless. I've got two degrees and have worked for 42 years, and I do volunteer work besides. Same for my mother. Some folks watch "their stories" over lunch break. Some people tape them and watch them later. What's the big deal? What about the full-time parent who can finally kick back during nap time, get a little "me time" and just watch a soap? What about those who are homebound or in hospital, unable to do more than enjoy some TV fluff? Shoot, I have a degree in theatre and am a writer. I KNOW it's hardly high art. So what? What;s the great harm in having an hour of some escapist, fictional entertainment that's not trying to do harm to anyone? Unless the snipers here eschew television and all meaningless pastimes, and instead spend all their leisure hours devoted to the improvement of self and others, they've little room to judge.
Right on galoux. coming from a wife, mother, Lawyer and MBA who fits her soaps in around raising my child, working full time job, part-time work, dance lessons, swim lessons and training to run, etc. etc. etc. My soaps allow me to do all his and not pull my hair out. With Tivo it's one hour a day I can let the highs and lows of Port Charles and Llanview take me away.
I agree galoux!! When we sit there to watch "our stories" , we go into it KNOWING they are fiction!! The story lines are no more disgusting or fake than ANY of the prime time reality shows on the air today. Take any of the Real Wives of _________ (fill in the blank) for instance – what kind of TRASH is this – and if we are to really believe this is these women's "real" lives – how disgusting are they!! And "Teen Moms" (or whatever the show is named) What kind or morals are we teaching our teenagers with that kind of disgusting "real life" being glorified on TV!! Give me a good Soap Opera any day to the current trend that TV has gone towards these days. And to trade them for one more Food Show or "Fix me up because I'm so Disfunctional" show", PLEASE!! Just one more step towards being able to throw the TV out the door permanently for this 53 year old Professoinal woman!!

I started watching AMC in 1983. I have made it my routine that I have to be exercising when I watch it. It helped me lose 20 pounds!!!!! I am still watching it today and wil sorely miss it!

I am really sad about this and I work but I watch it on line during my lunch break (One Life to Live) I also read up on All My Children all the time. I think it is sad that they are taking off generations of soap operas for what they plan to replace it with. I will not be streaming those shows during my lunch hour – that's for sure

Network idiots. Bad enough that being told that viewers my age (57) don't matter. But the morons are taking to heart the phrase "that's SO last week." Who cares? The cooking show craze will pass. The life-makeover craze will pass. These soaps, regardless of their flaws, regardless of the average age of the fans, have been around for decades. They have stood the test of time. People like stories. They like ones that take place across years. That's a form of story that's been around for millennia. It's just that in modern times, the stories are about ordinary people, not warriors and heroes.
It's the same crap regurgitated over and over and over.. I'm convinced you have to have sub-par IQ to be continually entertained by this crap after all these years. Same goes to wrestling fans, that's like a soap for males and it's just as bad.

ABC have totally lost their minds. I have been working for over 30 years but keep up with them from the time that I took off to raise my children. We have food network (which I enjoy very much) and that is enough. I hate reality show because they suck. I do enjoy the entertaiment that I get from watching AMC and OLTL. No wonder that their ratings suck. I will give it 6 months and they will be trying to replace them because no one will want to see them. Goodbye Erica, Vicky, Dorrain and the rest of the cast members. I was actually looking foward to retireing in 5 years and sitting back and enjoying. Now I might as well keep on working. Think logically here. Television, like anything else, is a business. Fewer people are staying home, and therefore, fewer people are watching soaps. DVR's and online views do not count in television ratings and cannot be presented to advertisers when negotiating ad prices. The networks have been losing money for YEARS on soaps. Look at NBC...they've been down to 1 soap for several years. CBS just cancelled 2 soaps last year...one was the longest running soap in history. And SoapNet...the network dedicated to the genre...will go away next year and becomes the new Disney Junior channel. If you were investing millions of dollars into something and not getting anywhere near that amount of money back in return, would you still invest in it? Of course not. The fact is that ABC can produce these talk shows for pennies on the dollar what they pay to produce a soap opera. You can't blame them for making a smart business decision. Soaps aren't cheap to produce and they have a very poor ROI.

I guarantee that 30 days after these soaps are cancelled, the angry viewers here will have moved on to another show/hobby/activity and despite their empty threats, will continue to watch ABC.
I am bamboozled! I guess acting is a lost art. The reality shows that are on these days require absolutely NO talent. People are becoming famous without having earned it. When you cry with the actors on these soaps, you know that the actor has captured that scene. For example, Erica's graveside reaction when Mona died...priceless. And what about Soapnet? What will happen to this channel? ABC execs, to cancel these shows is a really, really bad decision that I fear you will feel in your wallets. I beg of you to reconsider.
So ABC is trying to compete with TLC and the Food Channel, bad move. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Leave Daytime TV alone. Don't you realize many retired and senior citizens look forward to these shows and have been following them for years. Soaps are a mainstay like hot dogs and mom's apple pie. ABC really need to rethink this one and listen to the viewers.
I am just devastated!! I have watched both these shows since the early 70's and since I work I DVR them so that I can relax and escape from the reality of real life and the ridiculous "reality" of the evening reality shows. This is a mistake!! I will not give a moment of my time to these replacement shows.
So demographics show that daytime viewers prefer food and health shows! Well what about viewers like me who never actually watch TV in the daytime hours, but record All My Children to watch at night, or watch it on the soap station. Also, I never watch food shows or talk shows at any hour.

I'm still getting over the fact that cbs cancelled guiding light almost two yrs ago! And at that time i turned to all my children. I LOVE ALL MY CHILDREN! I think its so stupid to replace two soap operas with basically two of the same kind of show! Not to mention, nobody wants this to happen! ABC needs to listen to their viewers bc i also will stop watching anything on this network, the same way i stopped watching CBS when they cancelled guiding light!!! Please change your mind. These are two of my favorite soaps. I have been following these stories for years. and have watched the characters grow. The replacement shows do not sound that interesting to me (since they are in abundanfe these days, and will get old quickly). But with the Daytime dramas like All My Children and One Life to Live, they are fun. No one can replace characters like 'Tad", "Erica", the Kane Clan, – Vicki B (Erika S), and the whole Buchanan clan & Dorian & David. Basically I have been watching these two shows for all my life – and have never gotten bored with them. I know times have changed, but sometimes it is best to leave some things (shows) alone. You never know how good something was until you lose it.
I think this is very insulting..ABC says the average age of people watching soaps is 57 and wants new viewers. I guesss that people that are a little older (a lot of us watching are in our 40's up) are unimportant to ABC. Why would I keep watching ABC if they only care about the younger audiences. Enough with the talk shows. They may be cheaper to make but I was raised with the philophy that work hard to succeed, don't cut corners and you get what you pay for...cheaper is not always better!

This is impossible to comprehend. I'm 60 and have watched these dramas unfold with my mom and sisters, and still watch them at the gym and tape them while at work. We have enough cooking and health shows! These dramas are a marvelous escape and wonderfully depict life and current events. Soaps are the next best thing to a live play. You have wonderful writers, actors, and actresses, not to mention suspense. My sisters and my mother-in-law all watch these shows. We started out watching them as young girls; we would run home from school to begin with Dark Shadows. I now work and tape these shows in order to watch them at night or on weekends, does this count in your ratings? It should!! How about a new 'vampire' type drama again? Please do not remove these two wonderful shows from your network. And, absolutely, do not touch General Hospital. Our entire office is so sick of Health and Cooking shows...that's all that is on television now in the mornings and evenings and weekends, along with house selling and home flipping. Everyone needs an escape, everyone loves to follow and a story and tune in to the next moment of the story. Don't do this. On OLTL, my favorite character is Todd Manning, although I preferred the other actor Roger Howarth.

Absolutely crazy! I never got into these two shows but I LOVE General Hospital and I can only imagine how upset I would be if they took this show off. I have been watching this show since I was 13 and now am 50, they are like a part of my family and I know that is how all the people who watch All My Children and One Life to Live feel. Some pleasures in life should just be left alone! We have do deal with change all the time. What is wrong with keeping something GOOD around sometimes, just because something is old does not mean it is not any good anymore!!!!!!
HELL NO!! I have been watching both soaps since my childhood, and now they're going to replace both shows with B.S. Really, how much reality shows/programs can people watch? I can almost bet that these new replacement shows will get low ratings. What will you do then ABC? Find another replacement with another reality show? Unbelievable!!!
The fact comes down to money and ratings... anyone that supports and continues to watch reality TV shows like Jersey Shore, American Idol, Survivor ect. show the demand for low browe low budget entertainment. Those shows about 4x less expensive to make and normally generate 2x more revenue via direct viewer advertising, not TIVO'd or steamed. That is 6x the net cash for the company... not paying actors, extra grips, sound enj. editors ect. It is like when you shop at Walmart you promote the degradation of jobs, family income; and in this case it's both of those plus traditional entertainment. All the networks are doing this even cable like Syfi, Style the pay channels like SHO and HBO ect are the exception to the rule. They are producing high quality original shows (with out ads even though they are premium) such as Shameless, Trueblood, Dexter and Gravity. Some don't make the cut due to ratings just like the rest, but the paying actors to act and writers to write.
So, Tivo the reality shows you like this will throw off the ratings scheme at least for now... or better yet don't watch. If you really have to wait until they are Netflix.

This is insane!! I knew moving AMC to CA was a bad move! ABC better change their mind, or I'm NEVER watching this network again!!!!!
The problem isn't with the lack of ratings, it's in how the ratings are calculated. Most of us Tivo the soaps now. And if you don't watch those episodes until the weekend, as a Nielsen subscriber you will only get credit for those in the final 48 hour period. You either have to watch i when it originally airs, or within 48 hours after. So the technology designed to help people view these shows on their own schedule has actual contributed to its demise. If I want to watch a food or cooking show, I'll go to the networks that know how to do it: The Food Network and Cooking Channel.

I am so sad that I am crying. I grew up with these shows being just background noise while my mom was watching it because I was too young to understand. Now soon to be 47 it was a ritual of mine to keep memories of my childhood alive by watching them. So sad, how many darn cooking shows do we need? Who has the money to even buy the ingredients?
This is the worst move ABC can make! The two soaps are icons and do not deserve this and we who have gotten attached do not deserve this. I was SHOCKED that ABC made the decision to cancel AMC and OLTL. The loyal fans of these two shows will not stay with ABC to watch another cooking show. If I wanted to watch a cooking show, there are channels dedicated to that genre. Soap viewers will slide into another soap on another channel. I am one of those loyal viewers and am not in the least interested in the new proposed shows. I will definitely switch to another network. Justed checked my TIVO and with Regis and Oprah leaving and now AMC and OLTL cancelled, I have only one show (including daytime and nighttime) left on ABC. Very disappointed with ABC's decision. The last nail in the coffin for ABC from my perspective.

Typical arrogance. What they aren't talking about is demographics. Older Americans mean nothing to the networks or their sponsors. Their research shows that once you are 40 you buy the same brand of toothpaste and the same brand of automobile for the rest of your life. As a result it's a waste of time to advertise to us. In continuation, those young ladies on Teen Mom get paid $10k per episode, get photographed on red carpets, and are on the cover of magazines for having babies at 16. We have enough reality shows that are absolutely pointless like Basketball Wives. Only one person on that show was an actual wife, and she's now divorcing her philandering husband. I'm upset because actors, actresses, crew, and all these people behind the scenes are losing jobs, I especially feel bad for the AMC family because some of them relocated to L.A. which meant moving children, changing schools, and spouses changing jobs. That's no easy feat. No, soap operas aren't real, but for a lot of people they were a staple away from daily life. A soap opera is much more appealing than watching 16 y/o's keep getting pregnant, watching grown women fight, and watching Brett Michaels try to find "love" when he had a whole girlfriend and two daughters at home. I understand that the cost to maintain these shows are quite stringent, but what Brian Frons is saying is that the people wanted new shows. I'm not sure who these people were, but clearly it's no one on these boards. I'm only 21, and I just got into soap operas around 2000. My mother is an avid watcher of B&B, Y&R, and OLTL when the storylines are worth watching. I'm certainly not a fan of what these generational shows are being replaced with. Another cooking show and a self-improvement show? Really, ABC? ABC is about to lose me as a viewer because I can't take the reality garbage anymore. It's too nuch.

I've been watching these soaps since I was 12. I used to record them on VCR and now TiVO. I am very disappointed in ABC. I will continue to watch GH, but will not support the new shows. I'm a long time viewer invested in the soaps and am not interested in yet another talk show.

I've watched AMC for about 35 years now; it has been the one bright-spot in daytime television. And now you're going to cancel it to give us another...reality...cooking show. Aren't we, as a people, fat enough without your enabling without this? There are enough talk, cooking, and Judge Judy shows as it is. Guess what, ABC: you've just lost another daytime TV watcher. This really STINKS ABC!!! I grew up watching AMC and OLTL, and my mother who is now in her 80's religiously watches AMC. I have always perferred ABC to any other networks, for news, entertainment, and everything in between. If "following" becomes your norm, instead of "tradition", I really hope another network picks up Grey's because you just lost this viewer!
These talk shows save the networks a fortune! Thanks to all the actors who have given me such pleasure as I was raising my children, earning graduate degrees, writing articles, caring for sick friends and neighbors...and, yes, exercising. These daytime dramas have been my "breaks" along the way and I will miss OLTL. How many well-known performers began in the soaps? Profits win, never doubt it. Perhaps one of the many cable networks will offer a new venue for these performers.
Yayyyyy! About time. As for the question of what to do with the time these shows were on. I suggest getting a job!
I work hard everyday and my choice of entertainment for 27 years has been Soap Operas. This is the worst business decision ABC has ever made. I will not watch ABC anymore and I love general hospital and many other ABC programs but why should I watch ABC since it cancels shows left and right. It's like someone at ABC is trying to purposely destroy the network inside out. Goodbye ABC I am done.
I think its crap. Cutting a show with actors to put yet another piece of reality show trash on just goes to show that we as a society have lost our imaginations. Great. Another cooking show with the weightloss person and the token gay guy host. Be sure to tip your research department on the way out when these shows tank in the first month. Then consider how the investment could have gone towards better writers...

Let’s get honest soap fans, at least about AMC. I, for one, saw this one coming, because after 30 years, I had stopped watching AMC, but not because I want to see more talk or food shows (there are ton of those and you can DVR them). The tipping point came when the writers of AMC made the stupidest mistake in soap history when Greenlee came back from the dead and she did not marry Ryan! At that point, I was done with AMC, but in keeping with a ritual that started when I was a teen, I would watch periodically, only to become more and more disgusted as the show continued to miscast leading roles. Soaps are about fantasy! Who doesn’t know that? So why did AMC continue to cast normal-looking people in major roles? We all know the old Scott Chandler belonged on the stage, not in a soap! And the old Marissa was painful to watch! And the new Bianca is simply not glamorous enough for anyone to believe she’s Erica’s daughter! When they finally got their act together and recast Scott and Marissa, it was too late. Last, but not least, never a fan of anyone getting away with cold-blooded murder! How are we supposed to continue to love Tad after that? And Zach killed Josh with no consequences? The last straw came this week when Kendall flipped on Griffin, totally out of character, for no reason at all! She may look like Erica, but she’s no Kane woman. If viewers don’t want to live through a character vicariously because the character is so weak, there are no more bubbles in a soap! RIP AMC!

5'4" and weighing 105 lbs....I certainly dont need a show about weight loss. Just like I dont need more staged talk shows. How many girls have gotten pregnant after watching Teen Mom. I am a nutritionist and actually have clients that have tried to gain weight because if they were "just a little heavier" they would qualify to be on tv. I am sorry but there is just not good tv any more. What happened to good old sitcoms...and soaps. Talk shows and reality tv are not entertainment.
If you really want to hit them where it hurts, we should start flooding the sponsors of AMC and OLTL with emails/letters threatening to boycott their products if they sponsor the new programming.

We are we to go nowasdays to escape reality and reality television. We watch tv and movies to get away from reality. We become fans of these drama shows and we get lost in them. My wife also grew up watching these shows. I am not ready to have more informative health info shoved down my throat. I want to get lost in fake tv to forget about everything outside that television set. I dont want to hear about how diabetes and lack of exercise will kill me. I already know. I want to be entertained, not bored. Bye Bye ABC.
Think you will find this is all about telling people what to go spend money on. Basically a daytime infomercial. Do as the corporate world says and spend as they say.
Really sorry to see my last show go. But I have to agree another food or reality show probaly won't make it. There are really too many of those as it is. # one reason to watch is to let someone else 's life have a go at it for a while.

I am simply devastated. Losing Oprah, AMC, and OLTL in the same year, this is highly upsetting. Watching my ABC soaps is the highlight of my day. I am in shock.
Now maybe all you Soap Lovers will get off your butts, loose some weight and clean your house!! Seriously, they are Soap Operas!! Do you really think people live life like they do in the soaps...perfect hair, perfect bodies, tons of money, beautiful homes...get out in the REAL world and see what REAL people do for a living and how REAL people live! I for one am THRILLED that 2 more Soaps are getting axed!
ABC GOT HIT WITH THE STUPID STICK. Food shows are you kidding me. What kind of crap is that. AMC and OLTL are the greatest entertainment on that channel. I cant believe they are putting out that people want food shows or weightloss shows. If i want that kind of show i will turn to food network or Bravo. You have just lost me as a viewer. I have watched or taped these 2 shows everyday for the last 30 years and will now just have to start watching another channel. I started watching AMC back in the 70's when it 1st came on but lately the story lines have gotten so ridiculous that I just stopped watching it. It just hasn't been the same in a long time.
No more ABC for me!!! Can't believe this is happening. I, like MANY others, grew up watching the ABC soaps. Is there anything that can be done to change this???? Hope ratings for this station fall so badly that they have to reconsider this HUGE mistake.
If The View influenced your decision to take these shows off the air (which I haven't watched soaps for over 40 yrs) then I know where your brains are. The women on the view are phonies, they cross talk sooo much, you don't hear what they're saying, exception Whoopi Goldberg. Get rid of the phonies and just keep Whoopi. I put the view in the same catagory with Povich and Springer. Our boys are dying to keep this trash on tv. I'm 80 and white.
A show about food and nutrition hosted by Mario Batali.........he's huge. I guess he'll tell us how to get as big as he is!
It's too bad they are replacing Soap Net w/ Disney Junior...there are already 3 to 4 Disney Channels for kids, I guess they needed another one?!?! If they are planning to make Disney Jr like Nick Jr than huge FAIL as Nick Jr doesn't show commercials and Disney Jr is going to be one big commercial – for Disney. I'm sad to see AMC go as I started watching it w/ my babysitter when I was 8 (now 37), it was bound to happen. Maybe the soap genre should be overhauled. The soap operas on the Spanish channels only run for 5 to 6 months and end. Some of the same actors are used...it just seems a shame that we don't have miniseries or TV movies of the week, and now soaps to entertain us. A little bit of glamour is slowly leaving the world in favor of the harsh glare of 'reality.'
I sure as heck hope ABC is paying attention to all the comments I've been seeing on the internet. A food show? Who can afford to buy groceries? This really ticks me off. When I heard about OLTL to be cancelled, I was shocked! I have been watching for the past 19 years – this is horrible! There are still people who are loyal fans of Soap Operas – this is very poor judgement by ABC. There are enough reality shows on TV – if I wanted to watch somehting on food, I would tune into the Food channel. I know I will NOT be watching the replacement show! If OLTL was to go to another station – I would follow the show there. Someone needs to slap those people at ABC! I agree with Elise's comment above. You go Girl!
Watched these when I was a kid with my mom....I still watch at 42.... Don't do it!!!! I don't watch anyother shows on tv because there isn't anything worth watching!!!

I can't believe they are going to cancel the last thing I watch on ABC as is. I have been an avid soap watcher for years. I'm only 20 y/o and I enjoy them. They say the demographic isn't there, but I know plenty of people my age that watch soaps. They are legacies and deserve to be on the air above mindless drivel people immerse themselves in today. Is it too hard to have a bit of quality writing and real acting? Apposed to some D-list morons on reality tv that just soak up every other channel possible? How many more cooking shows or weight loss shows do we need? And, for the people that say "Get over it" or "Get off the couch". Why not get off the couch to actually lose weight or read a damn book to learn how to cook. We don't need commentary on every single show about the same repeated shows. I understand that it's pricer to have writers and real acting. But, I'll never watch ABC again after OLTL is canceled. I hope all these new shows bomb to hell and back. Then they'll regret ruining the classics.
I am saddened by the thought of losing the shows. Those two particular shows, both fun to watch with OLTL coming out as the better of the two at this time. I was an original AMC fan, from the beginning with Erica. She has aged so beautifully. I wish them all well and for those of you who made the move to California, oh well.

Well lets see; what is going to be next since tradition and what the public wants; for whatever reason they want their soaps, does not seem to matter a hoot. Maybe the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Or televised sports; (and don't say it can't happen; we did not think this could ever happen either), books, magazines, libraries, movies and movie theaters, etc., etc., etc. Why does it seem that so many things that have made up American life and beliefs are being eliminated? Is it money? Is it a complete turn from god? This country used to be so down to earth and based on family values and tradition. And these traditions meant something you could not put a price on. And I am not talking about just soaps here. When there is so much stress in this life and no escape from it in the form of entertainment like soaps there is going to be consequences. Not to mention all the people that this decision is going to put out of work. I mean not just the actors but the entire staff behind these shows. Soap Net, all the soap magazine, the sponsors, etc. And too much is changing in this country for the wrong reasons and it is going to come back to bite us. I have to wonder what in the world ABC is going to do when this new show of theirs bombs for all the reasons I am pretty sure it is likely going to. I mean can they bring back the soaps successfully and fix their mistake? They better think about that before going ahead with this.

Ok TV viewers and daytime soap fans, there will be a boycotting of the ABC network due to the dragstic cancellation of daytime soaps. I hope "Dancing With The Stars" can take a hit with less viewers.
Jeff Branson's mom is a close friend of mine and I'm also acquainted with Jeff. I'll be sorry to see him out of job. However, I don't watch any of the soaps so my chagrin at these cancellations is only for my friends. BUT . . . the replacement programs couldn't be more lame. Jeeze, food and health? Reality? Reality sucks big time. I watch TV to escape from reality not wallow in it. To ABC: Wake up, foks! If you must cancel shows that have such adoring fans, at least replace them with something less mundane than ANOTHER cooking program. Talk about BORING programming . . .
Dear ABC, the company is making a huge mistake in cancelling AMC and OLTL. Replacing these fine shows with the food and health program is a degrading gesture to the loyal fans of daytime soap operas. This dragstic change in programing will put prime time shows such as "Dancing With The Stars" in danger for less viewership. All this week Susan Lucci has been appearing on talk shows promoting AMC and meeting fans because the show impact many peoples lives.
You can count on this viewer of not supporting the ABC network or its future programming. And yes i am going to spread this disappoint to other fellow viewers too.
Oh and now if we could just get Lifetime to axe Army Wives my girlfriend might pay more attention to me and give me a backrub more often and maybe something more.

As a former CBS soap watcher, I understand your pain. I grew up watching Guiding Light, the longest-running drama ever, and As the World Turns. CBS killed both of them in the last few years. I wonder if it's the same people now at ABC making these decisions. Jerks.
The area's that these new shows will cover are already being covered on other shows. There's a channel called the food network. How many of these do we need? To me one is enough. Also for style type stuff is also covered on the Style network. Soapnet will be gone next year. We need a place for soaps canceled as well as new and on going type stuff can air!

I don't watch eith shows but I can honestly say that I would rather watch these soap operas than watch cooking shows or reality shows etc. Soap operas are the best, so dramatic! a quality unlike another!

Why couldn't they just revamp the schedule. AMC and OLTL get one day a week. It would be alot cheaper. I know it won't be the same for the viewers.(I am not a big fan at all but I grew up with my mom being a devoted AMC fan.) If I were you I wouldn't put alot of stock in Oprah bringing it to OWN. She is on an ABC station saying she likes a show on ABC. Heck I would say I liked vomit flavored Kool Aid if it meant money in my pocket.
not a big soap watcher but i always liked tuning in to see who was doing what.....these stories are what separate the two types of tv cable and abc/nbc/cbs......unless its a movie station music i prefer regular tv it has more variety and some of the new shows are good there some that need to go, like nick burkis , love him but not for an hour.... the soaps have a world u can escape to and from....they have people u love and hate....a lot of cook show feature cooks not entertainers, soaps entertain....theres s different group of people that watch the soaps, id rather watch that than realty tv....i get enough of that at work....soaps are a good little escape....keep the soaps we need them
it appears we like to demolish our past. I totally believe abc is doing this for the quick dollar. However. Soaps have been here for many decades....it's part of our culture. Reality shows have been around for a weekend & they are willing to chuck the lot in hopes of the larger payoff. ABC will be punished eventually, & there is no going back.
Instead of everyone complaining here, goto ABC.com and click on customer service and complain to them!!! If there are enough viewers complaining they may rethink their decision, please get behind everyone and do this for all the lifelong and new soap fans. Tell them how you really feel and where it will hurt them to lose many viewers like us. They need to know AMC and OLTL needs to get a reprieve.

It is all about the money. Much cheaper to do a food show with one person than a scripted drama with a dozen actors. That is the same reason all these networks are doing so many realty shows featuring a bunch of losers and nobodies.
Well of course it's all about money ... that's why it's called "show BUSINESS". I'd hate for a CEO who's responsible for turning a profit and ensuring high shareholder returns make decisions based on whether or not people may get their little feelings hurt from time to time. Iam sadden, hurt, and destroyed by this news. This has been a bad choice from ABC. Many viewers watch these two shows, I've been watching them for over thirty years since very young and never got tired of them. If this is the case, then General Hospital should go as well. YOU GUYS ARE MAKING A HUGE AND HORRIBLE MISTAKE! ABC is my favorite channel but unfortunately there are being too many changes made lately making viewers choose to watch other tv networks. It's a total shame how these rumors had to become real, first they gave up some of their salary to keep the show running, but it served for nothing because you still did the worse anyway. Couldn't you have then made better choices in programs? You guys suck!

I am so upset that they have decided to cancel OLTL. When my husband found out that he was going to stationed in Germany, we were very concerned, its our first duty station, and since we're both 19 its the first time we lived on our own. But once we moved I discovered that the AFN played OLTL, so every day for an hour, I would be able to feel like I was back with my mom in CA. Its one of those things that just makes you feel at home. I will miss it very much.

As this is an ABC/Disney owned or affliliated site the fans will get little to no respect. I for one will be done with ABC for GOOD come September that includes primetime too. I am 35 years old and do not miss one episode of AMC and have not in the past 15 years.
holy crap ... this is stunning ... not that i follow daytime tv, or even tv at all, but remembering years ago how important these soaps and others were to women and teen girls it's amazing it's come to be replaced by another cooking show ... is this another cooking show where they scream at eat other? wow, those are just what the world needs ... soaps are much better for people than that ...
and unlike sitcoms etc they don't solve problems in one episode ... or even in a year as i recall ... much more like life ... nothing ever really gets resolved, the winners just keep the losers down and on it goes ... i just love people who act like life is a half hour tv show ... every day a crisis, a revelation and a big make-out scene at the end ... pathetic ...

Its sad that this is what capitalism has brought this country to. Just another form of assembly line television. Quick cheap shows to make ABC more money. Less actors and writers to pay while keeping more profit. 10 years ago, before all the terrible, poorly produced "reality" shows came on, soaps were the trashiest stuff on tv. Today, compared with everything else, soaps were starting to look pretty good.

OH MY GOD.......there is nothing to watch on daytime tv now....I guess they will hit General Hospital next, another icon...don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong about being healthy, happy, and joyful...but I always wonder where these folks get the right to tell folks how to live and where most of them have personal trainers and personal chefs to cook their food and "pump" them into shape....the average person cannot afford all that........

I think the cancellation of AMC and OLTL is a HUGE mistake! if you need a revamp, then hire new writers! Why throw out the baby with the bathwater? Shame on you! After The VIew, I'm tuning to HGTV! If it weren't for Whoopi and Joy, I'd have no use for ABC Daytime AT ALL! I'm highly disappointed!

I have watched these shows from day one, over 40 years, I have recorded them when I started work 24 years ago. I agree with all of you we do not need another cooking show or reality show. I hope you guys change your mind. I have not missed one show unless it was your fault. Your really should think this over. One Life to Live and All My Children are the best.

It is a bitter pill to swallow but in the long run it will get daytime viewers off their medications and into a healthier lifestyle. The results will be a more youthful, attractive and longer living viewer. This is the ultimate win win...
Lets see...I mowed the yard (1 acre ) with my push mower, cleaned out flower beds, walked 3 miles, washed 3 loads of laundry, made beds, grocery shopped and yes...still found time for my soaps. Not everyone that watches these shows is a couch potato. No more so than someone who sits down for the news shows, talk shows or reality tv.
Funny, all you people ranting about how you will stop watching. No problem. They are making the change because not enough people are watching right now. They know that more people are actually wacthing the type of shows that they're changing to. Good business decision and "good riddance" to those stupid soaps 🙂

My grandmother died after they mistakingly put her in a nursing home room without a TV. She lived till the ripe old age of 99 simply because she always wanted to see what would happen the next day on her soaps. Now it's 20 years later and my mother who's 89 and lives for all my children and watches it daily.will be heartbroken. She'll most likely die this year. How sad. The network is killing off the seniors!
I hate it!! We have so many reality, cooking, weight loss shows as it is...I want the soap to remember how good I have and how good it can be when it's not. Can't compare them to the View, totally different time slots. Move the view to 1pm and the ratings will go down!

This is really too much. Yes I watch soaps at night on Soapnet and, yes, I DO have a life! These shows have been a part of my life since the 70's and so many people are still invested in these characters and stories. I hope someone out there realizes there IS still a major market for soaps. There is STILL a huge audience. I can always watch the Food channel or the FIT channel if I want to see those types of shows. This is Crap, ABC. OK Soapnet, how about producing some of these soaps if ABC wont do it? I bet you'd have a Huge audience.

ABC just lost this viewer. I have watched One Life to Live since the early 70's with my grandmother and now my 18 year old daughter and I watch it religiously every day. Big mistake ABC!!

I am very much upset with the news of these two soap operas that I have watched for over twenty years.These are the only two shows that I watch on a regular basis which are OMC and One Life to Live.To have cooking shows to replace these two shows is a shame and makes no sense to me.Cooking shows are in the morning afternnon,and evening and also on the weekends.I believe that the cooking shows should remain on the present schedule and not need to take the time slot of these two soap operas.If this happens then ABC will lose two regular watchers of OLMand One Life to Live.I hope and would greatly appreciate if this change does not take place.
They are TV shows. Get a life and go play outside instead of sitting in front of the tube.

I'm mad and I'm sure the cast is mad having made the move them selfs. I don't think at this point that ABC will change there minds, it seems like there looking for "The View" type ratings for that time period...GOOD LUCK...they'll probably end up with ratings more like CBS's "The Talk" those types of shows are cheaper to produce than a soap...one thing I'm sure some of, the actors will find jobs on other soaps and I'm wondering what it will be like seeing them play other characters...I mean can you see Erica being called by another name on another soap..I don't think so. Anyway good luck to the cast and crew and thank you for all the great stories.

Debbie I'm with you! I bust my butt sometimes six days a week making a good living, I have two teenage children and two younger step children I help raise! I take care of my mother who has cancer and I started watching these shows with her when I was six! I am an upstanding person in my community and have helped organized food drives for our schools, fundraisers and clean up our city drives! If I wanna sit on my ass for and hour or two on my days off and watch my stories then thats my choice! I dvr all my shows and watch when I can, yes they are just shows but they are like family and touch on topics that real people can relate to. I'm at a loss for words over this, first Guiding Light then As the World Turns and abc is going down the same road, such a shame! If anything the view should go along with Racheal Ray! And if it really is ratings thats because it takes more then one member of the household to support a family these days! But its not about ratings it's about change and following the leader!

Oh my gosh, I have been watching All my children since it started and can not imagine it being cancelled. I guess ABC has to pay these fine actors and actresses and some get more pay than others but can they not just take a pay decrease instead of put.ting them out of work. I know life goes on but I guess they will have to go to another soap opera. Or yet I can see it down the road there will b no more soaps to watch. OLTL is my favorite soap I have been watching it for over 20yrs and very sad about both shows going off the air. I most likely will not watch the shows they are replacing them with because I will be so disappointed that they are gone. I will miss both shows and will be a die hard fan for life.
I for one am shocked and appalled. My heart is broken. 2 of my favorite shows. I am retired and have watched them since they both began in 1968 and 1970. Please don't do this! If we want to watch foods we can go to food network or one of those other channels. I am speechless ABC. This is yet another viewer that will go to the other channels to watch about food and health.

OK - now to the real reason. These ABC execs expect us to believe that this is about "research" instead of about people with substantial salaries and the network trying to save money? Give me a BREAK! These ABC idiots are expecting us to believe they are cancelling ALL MY CHILDREN and replacing it with a stupid food/health show that we viewers really want? PUR-LEEEZEE! If you think your viewing audience is that dumb, watch out! I'm MAD ABC!!!!!! If this is how you respect loyal viewers, go think again. For all of you saying you've watched these shows since the came on, do you realize ABC is not targeting the 50 /women demographic?? They know this covers 90% of their soap viewers and they're looking for younger blood. Straight up... 25 /women will be watching their new shows and thats EXACTLY who they're targeting for their advertisers.
ONE LIFE TO LIVE ROCKS 24/7 rating are better place 4th place which i don't understand but then AMC second to last in rating. Hello ABC when One Lift to Live goes off the air in Jan 2012 it's good bye to ABC

maybe you need to get off your fat ass...That is the stupidest comment on here. Just because someone chooses to watch an ABC soap instead of talk shows does not mean that they are lazy or fat. I would much rather have Erika Kane as a role model for how I ake care of myself than some of the people on these talk shows.
I understand they have made these descions based on money,,,, Yet I am here to Tell you that I WILL NOT SUPPORT ABC shows knowing they axed these twho shows which were my babby sitters many times I watched with my Grandmother who has now passed. Im SICK that we have to suffer beause they had LOUSY Writers.... the soaps took these OH SO OH SO Predictable turns which were boaring....The writers aer to BLAME...why could we as the fans get what we wanted instead of the same ole, same ole stuff they had been recyclying for years. Awesome talent, REBECCA BUIDIG was and is the Next Erica Kane, and now history , my childhood history is fading to black. ABC I will not be watcing your shows..... Soaps give up a reason to dream, believe and we live so much thru they story. The story is what kept up coming for more..... I hope ABC Daytimes really knows what they are doing...... wth is abc thinking taking the two best shows aired for more than forty two years of viewing while sitting on the edge of your seat to wait until the next day to see what happens so you can discuss the fate of the best characters with your family and friends since reality of life has become too real to deal such a horrible blow by cancelling and removing the drama so heartfelt and surely missed ABC has no heart nor soul to be so evil minded towards its devoted viewers!!! *?*

But my beloved General Hospital? That would hurt if they pulled it also.

Well let’s start off by quoting Julia Robert’s character in Pretty women when she goes back to the dress shop that would not give her the time of day. ABC…BIG MISTAKE. BIG. HUGE! The major networks are tanking their own well being. ABC you have had some really good shows but you constantly mess with the schedule by running reruns or taking 4-6 week hiatuses. Take Lost for example. That was a great show the first season. ABC you hit a home run with that show until the second season came around and you started in with the reruns before Thanksgiving. Then you took part of December off and did not air another NEW episode of Lost until early February. Breaks here, breaks there…viewers lose interest and they don’t like being jerked around. ABC you have done the same thing with Desperate Housewives, Brothers and Sisters and many others. The cable networks are not putting you out of business…you are doing it to yourself. As for the thought of more talk shows, food shows, doctor shows, advise shows, reality shows -which in itself is a joke…we should call them “staged” shows- but anyway…the thought of more of those types of shows makes me want to throw up. I record All My Children and when I go to bed at night I watch it because it takes away all of the stress that I face during the day. ABC don’t you get it??? Maybe people want to get away from reality…especially in today’s times. As far as I am concerned you cannot catch enough hell from the viewers for this bad…VERY bad decision! As for the cast and crew of All My Children…we will miss you…I have tuned in to watch you every day since the early 1970’s. I am going to bed now so I can watch today’s recorded episode of All My Children in the hopes that I can put this awful news out of my mind.

I have been watching abc soaps for over 30 years. ABC is going to lose many more viewers than they will pick up with more talk/reality shows. Soaps have faithful viewers that enjoy a chance to live in a fantasy world and get away from reality for a couple of hours a day. True...a lot of us work now but thanks to DVR we still watch the soaps daily. We certainly dont need any more talk shows or reality tv. At least I will save money on my electric bill having my tv turned off during the day after these soaps go off the air.
I've watched for years too but have not seen either on a regular basis in a long time. For those who want to keep the shows you can start an emailing campaign to ABC. Start a Facebook and Twitter campaign. Several shows have been spared the axe with such campaigns. If enough voices are heard it may force ABC to take a second look. Good luck!

If AMC and OLTL are canceled then you will find me and others very upset. We grew up with these programs and I can't believe this will be canceled. What a waste of my life. This cannot be happening. This needs to be changed immediately. Who do you think you are? If this is horrible rumor, please let me know!
I cannot believe this! My husband told me about this and I thought he was kidding? I was born in 1961 and can remember watching these shows – with my mother – from the time they started.
Why the heck do we need more food shows let alone on daytime? AMC and OLTL have given us a chance to escape from our worlds in a safe way. They're nothing like all these "reality" shows that are flooding our lives now.
My mom is 80 years old, has had 4 strokes, and is 75% blind. While she might not be all there, when I tell her about this, she will know exactly what I'm talking about and the fondly recall the memories we have shared. At least something good will come out of this.
I grew up watching AMC & OLTL I can't even say how disappointed I am of ABC for taking 2 of the best day time shows off the air just to watch another reality show HOW EXCITING IS THAT....NOT thank god I don't like any other shows on ABC now I could find me a new tv station to watch
I think it is sad to see these shows go!!!! I do not watch this network I actually watch CBS but, have watched them a few times on Soap tv. I think we have enough talk shows and infamercial type shows on TV.. I agree with Kenny, does noone at ABC have better show ideas? Good grief.. I hope CBS does not get this stupid.

ABC is making a HUGE mistake! Removing two shows (AMC & OLTL) both of which have millions watching them on a daily basis. MANY of the shows watchers, like myself have been watching for DECADES! And for what? MORE food and lifestyle shows which come a dime a dozen on many other cable channels DAY and NIGHT! What a foolish mistake ABC is making! NEVER will I watch ANY show ABC tries to replace AMC & OLTL with! I'm sure I am speaking for millions of other fans as well.
