Alec Baldwin: '30 Rock' is ending... or not

All good things must come to an end - including NBC's "30 Rock," which, according to star Alec Baldwin, will wrap things up in 2012.

"I will tell you one thing, and that is our show next year is our last year of the show," he told Vulture. "Our contracts are expired (in 2012), and Tina is gonna have a big career directing films and writing."

But, much like his character Jack Donaghy, Baldwin might have said more than he should have (reps for the show declined to comment on his remarks), and he later wrote an apology of sorts on the Huffington Post.

"Gosh. I want to take the opportunity to state that although my days on network TV may be numbered, I hope '30 Rock' goes on forever. Or at least as long as everyone involved desires," he said.

"Next year hopefully won't be the last. Kenneth can run the network. Jenna will get her own talk show. Tracy will become Mayor of New York. Then resign to go raise exotic reptiles. And Lemon will go do ... just about anything she sets her mind to.

"Here's to five more seasons."

Would you be sad to see "30 Rock" come to an end? Tell us in a comment below.

Wow the dude talks out of turn about the show ending and everyone is either heart broken or happy to see it go. Seriously, those who don't watch the show go on about your business. Those who enjoy the show like me go on about your business. Those who are offended because it is liberal television seriously if this show offends you return to your FOX news broadcast and keep your conservative, narrow minded, Christian radical comments to yourself, because if you can't laugh at society what can you laugh at? Remember it takes more muscles to smile than frown and your faces must be in a permanent scowl these days.

Oh and Jenna is flawless in everything on this show...the runnings jokes between Grizz and Dot Com are things only loyal fans like me live for on 30 Rock. Most people just aren't smart enough to understand this show or to even give it a chance.

30 Rock is funnier than anything else on TV these days...while this past season hasn't been great, Queen of Jordan was an Emmy-deserving episode. I can't believe shows like the Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men beat this show in ratings.

30 Rock does need some improvement right now, and I'm confident Tina Fey can pull that...this woman knows funny, and she will be great long after 30 Rock ends. I don't care for her liberalism, but she and the other writers/actors on 30 Rock are witty as can be.

30 Rock is the best show on network t.v. It's too bad though that the other Thursday evening shows are such a bummer. Check out the last 2 episodes of last season's Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld definitely redeemed themselves. Endless loops of 30 Rock and Curb shows, now there's a big slice of Heaven!

30 Rock is excellent, but the best comedy may be The Big Bang Theory. With both on Thursday makes for some Must See TV that we haven't seen since Seinfeld.

Oh, they could do several funny episodes without Alec, because the cast and characters are strong enough. But... no... the dynamic between Jack and Liz is really the central core of the show. Would be sad to see it go... but I will happy to see it go out on a high note. Sure, the show goes over the heads of many people. Maybe many people don't like their comedy to be smart and clever. (Sorry, if you say it's not smart and clever you are neither smart nor clever yourself or your not paying close enough attention). Anyone who maybe is on the edge and hasn't caught on to why this show is great... go rent the first season and watch them back to back... hopefully you'll start to see what the fans of the see.

30 Rock is the best sitcom on TV, and I'll be sorry to see it end. But Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin and the other cast members and writers deserve to move on to other creative opportunities when the right time comes. After the hateful integrity challenged mocking of Sarah Palin, CNN libs fawn over Tina Fey like Ted Nugent at a NRA convention.

I love it when libs attach Snookie to NASCAR, uh sorry, Snookiie types come from the bluest parts of this nation. I'm not amused by Jersey Shore, I live in an ultra blue area and see it day in and day out, but for the people who live in the red areas filled with great Americans, it is a car crash that is hard not to witness.

I will definitely be disappointed when 30 Rock ends. I'm disappointed when they do re-runs instead of a new show. I think it's the highest-quality, most amusing scripted comedy on TV right now, and infinitely more interesting than all the crappy, low-cost reality shows that seem to be everywhere. I like that network executives are willing to let the writers poke fun at the network itself. The characters are also so well developed and so amusing (maybe they only work for nerds). Anyway, I hope it continues just as long as the writers think they can keep cranking out good material.

A lot of people just can't keep up with the humour. You have to actually pay attention to what they're saying and then figure out what it means, sometimes this takes a few seconds and the dialog just keeps going. This is not Jersey Shore or Dog The Bounty Hunter.
If you don't like 30 Rock then there's a good chance that you're "slow" and unable to appreciate the writing. For those people I have no sympathy because you have plenty of crap to watch on tv. Reality television was built around your demographic. Just flip over to TruTV and leave 30 Rock alone.

Good and intelligent TV is not this "30 Crock" drivel– it's shows like Nova, reputable newscasts, learning shows and "Charmed". In case you didn't understand that last one was sarcasm. Baldwin is probably just trying to gain the upper hand for contract negotiations. I very much doubt any of the cast of this show want it to end.
With the exception of Tina Fey I can't see any of them finding a better gig. Tracy Morgan makes great guest appearances but you can't live off that. Baldwin can get small movie roles and host Saturday Night Live but that ain't a living in Hollywood. If it wasn't for 30 Rock Jane Krakowski would be selling cheap makeup door to door by now.

Baldwin and Fey are the only reason the show's still on the air. Either of them leaves and it's probably the end of the line.

30 Rock has been consistently laugh out loud funny since it's premier. Alec is a revelation, though he needs to stay on his meds. The jokes fly so fast and furious I can hardly keep up. This show easily has a few more years left. I am left scratching my head over the people who don't find 30 Rock the least bit funny. I think they are missing a gene or two.

I for one would miss the show. The self-induldgent characters, off the wall humor, etc, are what makes it funny. If you don't think 30 Rock or the Office is funny to watch, I bet your fun to hang out with. I do agree that Baldwin jumping into the Office would be fantasticly hilarious.

The Office has run its course and it's time for it to go. As with ER, I'm addicted to the show so I have to watch it. That was very difficult as the last 23 seasons of ER were just plain bad with me yelling at the screen most of the time.

No comedy should last more than 5 seasons. This was a good show, the first season was great and there were great episodes in the following seasons. It just seemd to, overall, run out of ideas pretty quickly. This show is one those (like community) that is just clearly written by people raised on tv. Entire episodes were basically remakes of episodes of Newsradio (a gem of the 90's). I look forward to comedic writers that haved lived interesting lives. Things are very stale and recycled right now. Fan Boys are not writers, they are fans.

I love Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin and almost all the rest of the cast is just phenomenal.
Unfortunately, the "star" of the show, Tracy Jordan, is truly awful.

Dump that guy and you might have a great, instead of so-so, show. I fast-forward through every TJ sequence; he just isn't funny. Eddie Murphy could have done this but Tracy really sucks, he is so one-dimensional and even that dimension isn't funny.

Make it Jenna's show. She's the perfect prima donna. And give some more time to other worthy cast members from the writers pool.

Tracy Morgan is second to Jane Krakowski when it comes to bad acting, and she looks like a cross between a rat and a chipmunk. Enjoy the show, however, although it can be a bit hit and miss and is way liberal.

If there is ANYTHING we can or should learn from Seinfeld (most amazing show ever) is that Jerry knew when to call it quits at just the right time. Don't leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

I am not a fan of 30 Rock, I don't view nasty putdown as comedy. And I avoid anything to do with Tina Fey – I don't buy magazines that feature her, I don't watch anything that has her name attached due to the nasty and cruel material that she thinks is "comedy." I wish we had the truly great writers, directors and actors that did real TV comedies like Mash and All in the Family – those are the greats. Tina Fey is the garbage collector who smears crud on everything and fools the sad into thinking its comedy. It ain't. And nobody has mentioned the role of Comcast – now that they own a big slice of NBC, they will put a stop to the snooty putdowns that the fools think is comedy on 30 Rock – Amen to that, and long past time it was cancelled!!!

There's an expression that goes, "too hip for the room", that appears to be the case here. 30 Rock just goes over the heads of a lot of people, and judging by the comments here, they seem to be letting their politics get in the way too, because Tiny Fey accurately skewered their precious Sarah Palin. And let's be honest, trolls just don't have a sense of humor, period. 30 Rock is light years ahead of anything out there. Some people will never get it and that's OK. I was a die-hard 30 Rock fan. I would tell everyone to start watching it. And then something strange happened last season. It wasn't funny anymore. I could see all of the jokes coming, everything became so formulaic. Every joke is a predictable play on words. It's incredibly tired. So I believe that 30 Rock's best days are well behind it. I think it should end while it's still on a semi-high. Now, the best comedy on TV is Community. Seriously.

Please don't compare 30 Rock to The Office. The reason The Office is "run into the ground" now is because it was never good in the first place. All it was missing was the laugh track to make it at par with Two and a Half Men; that is, The Office is just as unbearable to watch as Two and a Half Men.

30 Rock is awesome! This season has been great as have all of them; who doesn't love the idea of Trust Fund Child Disease, Bobert (not Robert) Ballard, The Muffin Top Song! I sit there, every time I watch an episode old or new, with a smile on my face for 22 minutes straight!

Actually, blah – NBC owns the Sci Fi channel, and were the ones that decided to air Battlestar Galactica.

      Anna,
First: I have news for you – The Office wasn't bad just because you didn't like it. In fact, it was good for quite a few years. Second: I was a die-hard 30 Rock fan. Seriously.

Yeah, I've like'd the show for a while, but this year, it's just not working. I think it has "Jumped the shark". Time to move on and make something better.

Creativity doesn't have a time table. If Tina can keep it flowing, I will watch.
