Guess who's coming to 'The Office'?Who's the boss? That might be the question "The Office" fans are left asking when Ray Romano, James Spader and Catherine Tate guest star on the hour-long season finale in May. As fans of the NBC series know, Steve Carell will finish his seven-year stint as Dundler Mifflin office manager Michael Scott on April 28, leaving a vacancy in the position. Enter Romano, Spader and "Doctor Who" alum Tate, who will appear as candidates for the job on the show's May 19 finale, according to TV Line. The entertainment site says that of the three, Spader and Tate are most likely to be serious contenders to take Carell's spot. Romano is already committed to another TV series, TNT's "Men of a Certain Age." Though, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett and Ricky Gervais — star of the original, British version of "The Office" — will also appear in the episode, it is unlikely any of them will join the series full-time, according to TV Line. Who would you like to see as the new Dundler Mifflin office manager? Tell us in the comments below. |

Our daily cheat-sheet for breaking celebrity news, Hollywood buzz and your pop-culture obsessions. |
seems logical at this point that Jim would get the promotion to boss and DM would bring in someone new to sales.
Anyone trying to play the roll of an absurd, self aggrandizing boss would probably just fall short of Steve Carell, but the best choices are probably Colbert, Spader (would bring something different to the show), and then Nick Frost (simon pegg's comedic partner).
Would love to see Danny McBride, Rhys Darby, or Zach Galifinakis as a new salesman.
How about Mr. Ed?
Dwight Schrute should be the boss.
Season finale = series finale. Thanks for the good times , it's time to pull the plug.
Osama bin-Laden ... oops, never mind ...
Chuck Norris
I think that Jim, Dwight, or David Wallace should be the new manager !
Dwight should get it so Jim could screw around with him (thats what she said) but I think Will Ferrell would make a great boss if he wasn't so serious. also, Jim Carrey would make a very good addition on The Office
They should make Dwight the manager.
Will Ferrell was too condescending in the episode I saw him in. Didn't like him. James Spader would be cool. He was great in Boston Legal. Or bring back Denny Crain!!! (Williams Shatners role in Boston Legal)
Will F makes it funny...could you imagine his running around in his underware or acting like the anchor man.....so many possibilities.
I want to see Catherine Tate. If you've ever seen her show, then you'll know that she is AMAZING!!!
Dun-Der Mifflin! (The people-persons-paper-people!!)
steve makes it happen...
will ferrell, fabulous choice I already love the change, i saw the episode and it went well!
Simon Pegg!
Watch some of Catherine Tate's stuff on youtube. She's HILARIOUS, and of course I loved her on Dr Who. While she plays a great dramatic/action character she is meant for comedy!
patrick stewart??
Rhys Darby. Hands down. The band manager from Conchords.
For God's sake cancel this mince, the British version was just dreadful but at least it was killed off after two seasons.
Seriously what new scenarios are they going to come up with after 7 years. They will replace Carell and the show will die the death. Remember Spin City?
Time for soemthing new!
I remember thinking/wishing that will arnett could be the new boss when it was revealed that carell was leaving. Now, it appears he is going to be in the finale, so I'm rooting for him. Spader is a terrible choice... has he ever done comedy? All I remember him in is stargate... yuk. If ray ramona gets the job... I will never watch that show again. His voice is just torture. You might as well cast fran drescher.
Ricky Gervais – He has a proven track record of alienating upper management, failing to win the friendship of all his employees, and generally being void of any real business skills. He is perfect.
Matt Dillon would be perfect. If you recall his character from "What about Mary" he is very good comedic actor.
Spader!!!!!
Charlie sheen
Will Ferell would be perfect...
My picks are:
Bob Odenkirk
John Oliver
Will Arnett
Ricky Gervais
Mackenzie Crook
or James Spader if none of the rest are available.
Spader all the way! Saw him last year on Broadway and he was terrific. Loved him in Boston Legal and want him back on TV.
I won't be watching with Steve gone !
I really love the idea of Murray from Flight of the Conchords. That's the only original idea on this board and it would be F-ing hilarious. Other than that, I think the show should quit while it is ahead. Finish on top.
I'll throw another vote up there for Sheen.
I agree the office is totally brilliant because it mirrors so well real life situations that happen in real offices
ie: The Boss really doesn't do much other than use his/her position to self promote
The boss is a loser who has no one else in his or her life except work and subordinates
I agree Steve Carell should stay but my vote for the replacement is Charlie Sheen if he keep himself sober enough to remember his lines and show up for rehearsals.
P
The doo doos in this show are of low quality. I enjoy high quality poopers.
None.. I don't think any of these would make a good fit, Michael Scott's humor is on a different scale than what these contenders have. I personally think Rhys Darby would have made the absolute best pick for Steve's position on the show. Anyone not firmiliar with Rhys Darby, look up Flight of the Conchords on youtube, his character he played was Murray Hewitt, compare the humor to Steve Carrell's and you be the judge.
Will Ferrell would be an obvious 1st choice..but I think James Spader would make a good fit as well.
Will Ferell would have been a perfect candidate. He's hilarious. SHOOT!
Secretary...great movie.
What RC said. Murray, the band manager from FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS. I mean,it's not even close. he would make the show AMAZING. It's sad to even think of it not being him 🙁
I've never watched the show on a regular basis, it's just too painful to watch. However, if Catherine Tate joined the cast, I would definitely tune in. American audiences may only know her from Doctor Who, but she also had her own comedy show in the U.K. that was on BBC America for a short while and there wasn't anything funnier on TV. She is a great comic actor and depending on how they construct the character, she could make everyone forget Steve Carrell was ever on the show, she's that good.
Painful to watch? Are you serious? Shut up and stop commenting on the story about the show then. The Office is brilliant.
William Shatner!
Murray. The band manager from Flight of The Concords. END.
genius!!! I can't believe I didn't think of that, but it would be perfect!
YES!!! It's time for roll call! Murray – present!
I'd like to see Zach Galifinakis!
I'd like to see Zach Galifinakis – set on fire.
I like Charlie Sheen!!
Winning!
Ricky Gervais. The only suitable man to keep "The Office" employed.
CHARLIE SHEEN!!!!
YEP. Dennis is 100 percent right. That would be something ! Charlie is a natural salesman. I bet he would reall improve their branch offices sales. He gots tiger blood !
Its time James Spader returned to TV!
Daniel Tosh!
The only option in my eyes is Charlie Sheen. They wouldn't even need a script for him.
BOY OH BOY DO I HOPE IT'S JIMMY SPADER.
WHAT FUN THAT WILL BE!
I hope they make manbearpig the manager.
Ive got a new candidate
that Dr. Drew guy
Since his HLN show is a flop
stick him on this show, he might get some viewers
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
After premiering to 401,000 total viewers and 164,000 adults 25-54 on Monday night, Dr. Drew fell by nearly 50% to 201,000 total viewers and 84,000 adults 25-54 to wind up in last place (behind even CNBC) for the hour.
=-=-=-==-=-=-==-=–=
I'm sad to see Steve go, his character is irreplaceable.
If Spader is in, so am I.
Double thumbs-up to that.
+1. James Spader would be beyond perfect or this job.
Stephen Colbert
yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
snookie ! snookie needs to be the office manager !
Neither. The show should just end already. It's had a good run.
ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! The show still makes us laugh. Spin City continued without Michael J. Fox. This is an ensemble cast and with the right choice it will continue to entertain, which is more than most of the stuff that's on TV right now.
i totally agree with you larry...i think that the show should end as well. The show will not be the same with out Steve. I think that with the three or so episodes remaining after he leaves, they should end the story lines with the rest of the characters.
"Who would you like to see as the new Dundler Mifflin office manager?"
H. M. Murdock, B. A. Baracus, Templeton "Face" Peck & if you can bring in a good Hannibal Smith (rip)
Then the show will actually be watchable.
Charlie Sheen is available...just think of it...seriously 🙂
Get Danny McBride in there! He would be a hilarious new boss!
I think that given his most recent antics that Trump has proven himself to be a worthy replacement for Carrell's character.
