'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Should Chris Brown be banned from 'DWTS'?

Chris Brown is still being welcomed with open arms at ABC, even after his “GMA” rampage – but is that fair?

Do you remember when Adam Lambert kissed a guy on live TV during a performance on ABC? Within hours, Adam got the boot – his “GMA” performance got canceled for that kiss! I think this is a weird double standard. What do you think? Vote here.

In the "Showbiz" Royals Watch… We’re revealing Kate’s royal ride!

It’s also time to name the Most Provocative Celebrity of the Week! Will it be Chris Brown for his violent “GMA” outburst, Victoria Jackson for bashing “Glee’s” guy on guy kiss – right here on "Showbiz Tonight" - or Billy Ray Cyrus for doing some major backtracking about “Hannah Montana” destroying his family?

We want to hear from you! Sound off right now on the "Showbiz Tonight" Facebook wall.

See you on "Showbiz Tonight" at 5 p.m. ET and again at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HLN today!

Chris Brown, Chris Brown, Chris Brown!!!!!!!!!! That young man is phenomenal. You people hate someone you don't even know and you are miserable. Chris is going on with his life. Why bash this awesome man, who are you hurting because at the end of the day his 3 million fans got his back. That let you know people see the greatness in Chris Brown and the incident that occured, we have forgiven him. Why dwell in the past, learn from it and move on.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN supported by ABC, DWTS, and every idiot fool that pays money to this Chris (turd) Brown. He should be pumping gas but people are ignorant and ABC is in it for the money. It's sickening that he is on TV at all. Your a bunch of fools that keep him on the air. You are weak and obviously lack the values of standard humans.

You think ABC is mad because you say you are not watching the show anymore. They really don't care, OK. Chris Brown deserves this moment and his talent speaks for itself. Everybody loves Chris Brown LOL.

I think he should be banned because it was an act of violence. Although I thought the Lambert kiss was vulgar and inappropriate, it wasn't violent and yet he had to pay his dues. I think ABC expects the ratings will climb if they don't ban Brown. I guess whoever is making these decisions thought it was ok for Brittany Spears to perform at 8:30 this morning to a crowd that included very youg girls and boys, in a leather dominatrix outfit exposing plenty of breast and butt cheeks. It was disgusting, not to mention the performance alone was awful! Go Figure!

What does this has to do with Rihanna and Adam. On a personal note, I do know how it feels when someone hits your breaking point. I go off and break things but that doesn't mean I'm crazy or anything. People like to push people, so when you get push, what do you do, you push back right, this has nothing to do with him being BLACK or WHITE, he's not a THUG or any thing, just for y'all calling him that just shows that most of y'all are RACIST and think all BLACK guys have to be a THUG. Y'all know nothing about Chris Brown. Why do people like GAY people more than they like BLACK people, the world that we live in is crazy.

Something in his relationship with Rhianna wasn't going the way he wanted so he beat her up. Something in the GMA interview wasn't going the way he wanted so he beat up the dressing room. So what. He was angry. How could he be expected to think about endangering people on the street below. Why can't people see how hard he is trying and how much he has learned in the two years between these two incidents? He was obviously provoked both times. How can anybody say that he shows no maturity or self control or is a poor role model. If you can't see what a wonderful person Chris Brown is, you're obviously a racist. He deserves the respect and promotion of ABC and every other form of media. The way people are judging and attacking him you would think that he was guilty of something totally unforgivable, like being openly gay.

They know having Chris on their shows will get them more viewers the haters and lovers of chris brown will watch lol. Chris dosent need the mainstream media or their shows because believe it or not he has a very strong loyal fanbase. They need him to keep their ratings up to make more money! I can tell you from experience that when you have been beaten by a man, you never get over it. It will haunt you for the rest of your life. I have terrible dreams after all these years about it and wake up feeling scared.
The person that use to beat me has passed on now and i know he can't hurt me anymore but it is still in the back of your mind somewhere and every once in awhile it raises its ugly head.
If you think it is behind you it is not and Rhianna will never forget that her life was in danger at the time.

Here's the thing: Lambert kissed a guy during prime-time on camera. Brown lost his head off camera. It's whether something happens on or off camera that gets a person into trouble. Personally, I feel if ABC puts Brown on 'DWTS', the execs are both condoning and rewarding his idiotic behavior.

Chris Brown has real problems - emotional problems - that causes him to be the way we see he can be. He needs more help than a 52-week anger management/domestic violence program obviously afforded him. Brown is not going to realize he needs change if he is re-enforced by ABC that he can have a melt down on 'GMA' but accepted freely by 'DWTS'.

Adam Lambert = Decency, Intelligence, Maturity – which are all just positive icing to the already delicious cake that is his magnificent talent

Chris Brown – Thuggery, unused potential, childishness – and the ability to thow us a couple rhymes

ABC – do what you do, whatevs, but you should know that you come off looking so uninformed! This Lambert guy is a good decent human being, too bad that is lost on you in favor of business, business, business. And honestly, I'm shocked that Robin Roberts would tarnish her integrity to tow the party line like she has this past week, disappointed greatly in her, who I previously thought was a great woman's role model. Way to back down Robin, isn't that part of the problem, not the solution???

Adam Lambert wasn't hurting anyone. If he had kissed a female, there would have been no issue whatsoever. ABC has made their point clear: They would rather tolerate violence towards women than a public display of gay affection. I'll let you be the judge of what you would rather see.

Now I'm really getting sick of these people saying hes a bad person. last time I check none of y'all are perfect, so lay off of him. The AMA "incident" happened two years ago also. The difference here is that Adam has been blacklisted by ABC over a KISS and there are very few, if any, interviews with Adam that the KISS hasn't been brought up. Maybe Adam should slug the interviewer and then be considered a hero by ABC, since they obviously support hate vs love.

Your comment is the heart of the matter. If Chris Brown hurts ABC's ratings, they will stop promoting him. It isn't a morality issue at all. Adam Lambert cost ABC money by aggravating the FCC about their AMA broadcast. That's why he is still being punished. Chris Brown's violence is helping ABC rake in the dough! That must be why GMA apologized to him. They want him to show up as often as possible to pad their wallets. That's the most offensive thing of all.

Mostly this story is in the news because Adam Lambert's fans have latched onto it as a way to embarrass ABC into lifting the "ban" on him. They've been doing this for almost two years now; anytime a controversial story pops up, they flock over sputtering "But – but – but – WHADDABOUTADAM???" Their boy blew it at the AMAs, doing a number of unapproved, very lewd moves (it wasn't just a kiss – he ground a man's face into his crotch, fondled a female dancer's genitals through her leotard and gave the audience the finger) that of course made ABC angry, and they banned him. Not because he was gay; because he gave THEM the finger by doing those moves. Whatever Janet Jackson and Gaga did likely had approval beforehand, and of course they're huge stars; so nothing happened to them.

Now, Chris Brown is a jerk, and I'm all for showing him the door, but let's be clear here. The difference between what Brown did and what Lambert did is: Brown waited until AFTER he was famous and had tons of fans before flying off the handle. He's so big that ABC doesn't dare mess with him; they'd get blasted by his legions of fans.

When Adam pulled his stunt, he was a minor-league reality show contestant with a very small fanbase. ABC had no fear of them, and no qualms about 'banning' Adam – he just didn't have the backing you need to get away with what he pulled.

Moral of the story: if you're going to pull a stunt, wait until you're a big famous star. Then you can get away with ANYTHING.

This is the problem. This country is 70-80% christian. To them gay is an abomination but violence is not. It will take hundreds of years, if ever, for religion to die out and people to come out of the dark ages. Until then Chris will be accepted more easily than Adam will.

Jo – That CB is regarded as more "acceptable" than AL is horrendously WRONG. That is why so many people are upset about what is happening at ABC. Our society must change its views both on violence and on being gay. This does not necessitate that people abandon their religion. Christianity used to be A-OK with slavery but no longer is.

Adam's performance was at the end of the night, at almost 11 P.M. EST in fact. The "family" award show had already featured performances by Rhianna who was dressed in what amounted to bandages, her dancers had guns and at the beginning of her performance she was strapped to a bondage table. Gaga performed and smashed whiskey bottles, Janet Jackson performed and grabbed her male dancers crotch, etc. Adam's performance was no more risque than these females.. the difference being that it involved a man kissing another man. It is interesting to me that the most offensive aspect of Adam's performance was the "kiss" yet one of his female dancers full on groped him at one point.

It is sad that people are so offended by two men kissing but not offended by females kissing.

C'mon, stop avoiding the real issue. ABC's stance with Lambert is not just the result of a male on male kiss, but of the more offensive simulated felatio, and the subsequent blackmail tactics (read complaints filed) by the moral .00007619% of the viewership that night. Scared the snot out of ABC. They're still scared. Nope, no nasty Lambert for them. Bring on Chris Brown. At least he's a real man.

    whatever happened to investigative journalism?

the real issue was that the Liberty Council (i.e., Falwell's legal minions groomed in his own special law school, fronting the formal Moral Majority) used Lambert's AMA performance as a catalyst to change policy on the public airwaves and enforce their standards on the public-at-large. the Council filed an immediate legal brief w/ the FCC citing the AMA performance as obscenity. that's the real issue, which NO ONE IN THE MEDIA HAS PURSUED.

Another thing: The Adam Lambert comparisons to me dont make sense. For one, Adam just started kissing another man w/o fore-warning and it was on a family awards show at an early time. Parents were caught off guard and not given enough warning to change channels, and that's why they didnt want to take that risk again. In this case we know Chris is coming to PERFORM and nothing else. So if you hate it and feel you have a justified enough reason to, have your hand on your remote. Chris hasnt proven to be inappropriate on the stage and his performances that are risky are usually for late night. I think the media & all of you still stuck in the past should lay off of him

I guess I should clarify that. Adam's performance came on at nearly 11:00 PM, as he was the last performer of the night. He shouldn't have included unplanned choreography of such a graphic nature, even he admits that. It was inexperience and overexcitement, not anger or violence. ABC's reaction, and continued actions in banning him are inexplicable. Chris Brown is another story. But who knows why the mad dog sings.

From what I KNOW, the award show is on the weekend, where naturally children will want to stay up and watch a family award show. So I feel it was inappropriate for him to NOT give a heads up first. I do not care for what he did tho because that was he creative vision, but I felt parents had a right to be concerned in that case.

The award show was on a Sunday night, which is still a school night. IF all these people were so concerned with what their children were watching, they wouldn't have let them watch any of that program. I watched all of it, and if I had younger children they would not have been watching with me. Parents need to be parents and control what their children see and do. As far as Chris Brown is concerned he is a immature punk, who needs lots more anger management classes. YOU DO NOT HIT WOMEN OR THROW CHAIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris Brown's performance on any show has nothing to do with Adam Lambert. If Adam Lambert wants to perform or be interviewed on ABC networks, he should address that himself. Getting Chris Brown banned will not help or prove a point for Adam Lambert or his fans.
On the issue of continued punishment for Chris Brown based on the assault over two years ago. He has been convicted and is still serving time for that sentence through community service, probation, etc through the court system. Additional punishment was leavied by the industry and retailers for almost two years by refusing to play his music on the radio and banning him from venues. Rihanna forgave him and moved on from the incident a long time ago even though some people and the media want to hold on to the situation as if it happen yesterday to them personally.
GMA incident has been rectified between ABC, Robin Roberts, and Chris Brown so the continued media specualtion on other networks is really for ratings not to try to resolve any problems be with Adam Lambert, DWTS, GMA, Robin Roberts, or Chris Brown.
End point if you don't like Chris Brown don't watch the show at the time he performs. Get coffee, go to the bathroom, take a cat nap, etc. Then watch the dancers and vote for your favorite.

I agree that Adam's banning has nothing to do with Chris' situation, however there is a clear message being sent by ABC. Chris was invited on the show 2 years later and was asked questions about his criminal problems stemming from his conviction for domestic violence. Had he just answered those questions, not even necessarily apologizing since he's already done that, but addressed the questions and moved on I don't think anyone would be calling for his removal from DWTS. It is his violent outburst and behavior following the interview and ABCs reactions to the CURRENT behavior that has people up in arms.

I think most people acknowledge that Chris Brown has a right to move on with his life, however, he's in a new era cycle and the incident in question only happened two years ago so people will invaribly still want to talk about it. That's how the media works. Chris has been in the business long enough to know that one would assume.

Billy Bush just did an interview with Adam Lambert a few months ago and he asked Adam about the AMA performance. Adam answered his question and didn't have a meltdown afterwards.

Chris Brown's talent is not the question or even the issue. It is ABCs inappropriate and biased response to Chris' behavior.

It will be interersting when Adam's new album comes out to see if he's invited on GMA.

Really quite sad that some on this site are willing to give Chris Brown a pass for such violent behavior, did you see the pics on how badly he beat Rhianna? He did no time for that , maybe he should have, sorry but violence against any woman in that way should not be excused.Robin always lets her guests know what questions she will ask ,man up Chris ,you can not answer a question without rage. Regarding Adam Lambert, he hurt NO ONE, a kiss is not against the law, the double standard is amazing, major Fail DWTS , put on Adam , not Chris. If Chris on DWTS you will lose me as a regular fan.wise up ABC!!

I was shocked when Robin Roberts said whe wanted Chris Brown back on the show. Totally lost all respect for her.
Why is the media embracing violence??? Is the all mighty dollar that important? Elizabeth Taylor took a stand when it was unpopular to support aids. Thank God she did. What a trailblazer she was. Right is right and Wrong is wrong, what is so hard about that. Adam Lambert is still being crucified for his performance on AMA Awards. He took total responsibility for his performance on that show. He stood up for ABC and understood why they banned him. IN my book, he is one classy guy.

I'm thrilled that you made the Chris Brown/Adam Lambert comparison. All over the globe, in countless interviews on major TV shows as well as radio stations from Peoria to Paris, Adam Lambert answered questions about the AMA performance and resulting backlash. He always did it with humor, humility, and honesty, taking responsibility but not apologizing. Never once did he even snap at a reporter although after a year I'm sure he wanted to scream, "Can't we move on." When you are in the public eye, you don't always have that luxury. Chris Brown shows none of the responsibilty or class that Adam has shown yet ABC apologizes TO HIM and asks that he return to the show. Great lesson, ABC. Violence and evasion win, honesty and repentence lose. Adam and his fans have raised over $800,000 for charity because that is who Adam is........... but he kissed a guy so let's punish him. This world is even more screwed up than I imagined.

You are right on Charlotte. Adam has handled this well. What he did is very different from the violent actions of Chris Brown. I wish I could take back Adam's performance and I think the crotch thing was very problematic. But he deserves another chance and ABC should be the one to offer it to him.

I'm totally disgusted by ABC. How could Chris Brown learn from his mistake if a major TV network is backing him up and so many people here defended his violent behavior on the excuse that his button was pushed? Some murderers killed people because their buttons were pushed, does that make it ok? Speechless.

Well, we're going backwards even further. Chris Browne trashes a dressing room, could have caused serious injuries to passers by, beats up on a woman and ABC welcomes him back. All Adam did was kiss a guy and they still talk about it. Haven't heard anything about the glee male kiss yet in the media ( which was shown at 8pm, I cwonder how many kids were up at that time) , or Charlie Sheen kissing Jimmy Kimmel. Well I'll never ever watch DWTS again after this, a show I use to love, ABC will probably never disclose how any complaints they got over this,

"Neither of the things they did was OK" ???? How so, CLgirl?

Chris Brown beat up a woman. He destroyed property and endangered innocent people on the street. He committed a FELONY. He acted violently in 2 separate instances.

Adam Lambert committed NO CRIME. He hurt no one. He surprised people with his on-stage antics. Some people may have been offended, but that is no crime. He did nothing wrong. Adam is all about love and acceptance of differences.

These 2 people are in no way in the same category!

Heres the problem with that. Chris browns crime was dealt with by the law since it was a crime and it was a private matter. Gma has no business enforcing the law so to ban him from their show would make no sense and to punish chris brown for something they have no authority on and aren't involved in also makes no sense. Adam lambert didn't do anything illegal, sure, but he did his thing ON live tv, meaning it's up to the show to decide if he should be punished. If they don't like what lambert did on THEIR show, not out in private life, then they have every right to ban him and not chris brown. It doesn't matter who's offense was worse. Gma doesn't enforce the law and therefore cannot punish chris brown for a criminal matter. Period.

Ridiculous, Superhiro. Of course they can (and should) ban him from their show. Not only is he a convicted felon but he trashed the network's dressing room and endangered people walking on the street below. He is violent and unpredictable and he is a poor role model for young people. That is why he should be disinvited from performing on DWTS and not invited back to GMA. Actions have consequences and CB needs to learn to control his behavior or continue to be a pariah in our society. So far he has learned nothing. He thinks the Rihanna episode was "no big deal"!

Chris Brown has to live with consequence of his actions. He can't wash his hand and pretend it never happened..People will keep on mentioned it, all he has to say is that he was sorry and leant a lesson (obviously he hasn't)

Don't forget that when Lambert was banned and his visit to GMA was cancelled in 2009, ABC replaced him within 24 hours with Chris Brown - within the same year as the assault of RIhanna -making it quite clear that kissing a guy on tv was verboten, but beating a woman was not. ABC continues to make their values quite clear.

Forgetting the fact that ABC cancelled his performance in 2009 even though he was scheduled to perform months before Adam Lambert was they cancelled his performance because of the controversy. So you might not want to go too far with that line of thinking.

What the heck are you talking about? ABC did cancel Lambert on GMA and replaced him with Brown and then bumped Brown to 20/20 when people complained. I distinctly remember that replacement because I was one of the people complaining.

I guess if they can find a woman that's willing to bump and grind his doink and doesn't mind getting busted up, they can put His Thuggery on DWTS. They jumped the shark long ago anyway...

Who cares. DWTS is scraping the bottom of the barrel for "stars" already. Also, Adam Lambert getting booted for a sleazy gay kiss on a family channel makes perfect sense to me.

You mean the same FAMILY SHOW that allowed Eminem to drop Fbombs? They had a censor- they should have used it.

The same family channel that condoned Janet Jackson grabbing a man's crotch and Gaga breaking whiskey bottles? That "family show"? Puleeze! Violence is ok.......a kiss is taboo! How screwed is that?

Gay kissing on stage is not a crime, not to mention it was at late night when the kids should be in bed already.
