Bethenny Frankel sells 'Skinnygirl' brandThanks to "Skinnygirl" margaritas, Bethenny Frankel's wallet is now a little bit fatter. The reality star/author/chef has sold her "Skinnygirl" spirits brand to Fortune Brand's Beam Global Spirits & Wine unit for an undisclosed amount, her rep confirmed to CNN. The 100 calories-per-serving, ready-to-drink margaritas were developed by Frankel, a natural foods chef who got her start in television as runner-up on "Martha Stewart's Apprentice" and later appeared as an original cast member of "The Real Housewives of New York City." “Partnering with Fortune Brands and Beam Global was the right move at this time," said Frankel in a statement to CNN. "I created a new category that needs their muscle and distribution to take this concept worldwide in the immediate future.” Frankel currently stars in the Bravo reality show "Bethenny Ever After," and her new book, "A Place of Yes: 10 Rules for Getting Everything You Want Out of Life" debuts in stores on Tuesday. Fortune Brands is the world's fourth largest premium spirits company, and includes brands like Jim Beam, Courvoisier and Maker's Mark.

The buyer (Fortune Brands) is a public company. Go to the SEC web site and figure it out. It’s no secret. If you look at the cash flow statement you can infer that she got $40 million in cash possibly upfront (assuming no other acquisitions by FB in Q1 2011) plus if you read Q3 2011 they also accrued an addional $25 million in contingent consideration likely to protect Fortune from any downside. The disclosures are pretty weak, but enough to know she’s done very well but clearly not $120 million. She’s also likely an employee of Fortune given that she’s still marketing skinny girl so she's receiving a nice salary (although it’s in her best interest to do so given the contingency is likely tied to sales so the better the product does, the more $$ she’ll get).

I was watching her show last night and saw something curious. They were showing clips from former shows and in one of them Bethanny was ordering a margarita and she was telling the waitress how she wanted it. A couple of other housewives said they'd like the same drink and that's when Countess LuAnn came out and said the name Skinnygirl Margarita. Anyone catch the show and see that? My point is that I thought this was a name Bethany came up with. Anyone know the story behind this?

I think the name happygirl really does not suit you from the looks of these comments.....more like sadgirl. Just be happy for people that are able to become successful especially in this economy. I am sure this did not miraculously come to her....she had to work at it. I feel this gal is the only one from RHONY that never changed. She stayed the same all the way through. She did say what she meant and meant what she said even if people did not like it. This could have backfired and ruined her career, but she held fast. The other gals changed from season to season. They started acting instead of being real. Even Jill said she tried to be more like Bethenny "funny", but it backfired....it just wasn't her and people did not take to it. So, I applaud any of these women that allow us to come into their lives ....their actual lives, no BS, no putting on for the camera and Bethenney is one of them. This is one of the main reasons the other gals did not want her around. She called people out all the time. And as for Jill, she was the queen bee...seemed like a very lovely, caring, nurturing person. That was until the limelight got to her. So sad, her and Bethenney reminded me of Lucy and Ethel. They were so funny together and played off each other perfectly. I mean, they really could have had a spin off show with just them. Their bantering and antics were just so entertaining....I miss that.

I personally know Bethenny and she is amaZing! She's self made and tenacious as all get out! She's quick witted and her mind never stops! She has a big heart which sometimes gets hidden with her hard shell. These comments are so mean and hateful and really boil down to jealousy! I knew she would go far from the time I met her 1989. She started by selling pashminas before people could pronounce pashmina. I am soooo happy for Bethenny, she had a tough childhood and she deserves to be happy and showered with love right now! I dunno about ready-made margaritas.. i like fresh limes squeezed in mine– luv the pulp, not the fiction.
They are delish! And you can add the fresh lime. They are great in a pinch when you don't have the time or ingredients to put a fresh one together. Also great when company drops by. My company the other weekend thought I made them myself. I put the chilled Skinny Girl drink in the margarita glasses, rimmed them with salt, added fresh lime wedges and they looked and tasted amazing. Great if you like frozen ones too! Just add ice, lime juice, and blend. You can even add a little more tequila to taste.

I Dont like or dislike her. i do have to say when i first saw her i thought she was really pretty but when she became pregnant her face seemed to have ballooned literally twice its normal size. i chalked it up to her pregnancy. but now that she had her kid she didnt go back to her pretty self. i see what others mean by saying she looks leatherly and skeletal and ill. sure she just had a kid but thats the first time i've seen that.

Does anyone watch this show before making comments? This gal had been on Skating with the Stars and lost a tremendous amount of weight from training. She even commented sarcastically that she lost about 65 pounds and aged ten years from the training. So, it is not for lack of eating. Pro skaters have coaches and support systems like nutritionists to keep their weight up. Unfortunately, she did not have this and this is the result. It will take time, but she will eventually get back to a more healthy weight.

I'm not so sure about her getting fat...she's in her 40's now and still has a better body than the majority of 20-something year olds-seems like with her genes she will continue to keep a healthy weight even as she ages to 50, 60, and 70. And she does eat healthy, that's what her profession was for years was to make healthy food that has nutritional value-so she does eat. Most people cant keep that kind of diet/lifestyle she has that's probably why people cut her down for being thin. And she's a mom of a girl not even a year old-of course she's going to look tired.

Love Bethenny but Skinnygirl margaritas are terrible...very bitter and sour. Tastes nothing like a margarita.
Does she suffer an eating disorder? Most likely. I think she's admitted to one once upon a time. Will she and her husband last? Under the scrutiny of the TV microscope, they may not. Does her brand have longevity? Not so much as she approaches 50. At 40 she's just on the outer edges of a youth driven market. But you have to give her this: she owns who she is; she has taken advantage of every opportunity to succeed; she's a marketing genius; she's making a fortune, which if managed correctly will carry her through the rest of her life; and she's found happiness. So what's wrong with that? I'll take too skinny and rich over fat and in debt any day of the week. For now I 'll settle for skinny and broke.
All the haters on here should post photographs of themselves so we can see what they are using as a beauty barometer. I think Bethenny is cute, spunky, smart and witty...apparently her awesome husband saw the same thing. She is also very encouraging to women on eating heathier. Not a very flattering picture of her with this article. Like many women over the age of 40, she has thinning hair. It really shows up on the front of her head. She needs a new, more flattering hairstyle. It almost looks as if she's been using the Joan Rivers spray on hair on her part.

You're so correct DottieAnne...for Bethenney who was rejected in childhood by both her father & mother she's come out on top. Sometimes she may have had to claw her way up to get there, but she got there. Kudos to her as she does had a wonderful husband who knows how to handle her properly without being a wimp, and also they have a gorgous baby girl.
When watching the show she mentioned having issues with her supplies to get the product to market, now that she's sold to a large company in that line of business I am sure that company will be able to get the product to market more effectively...smart move on her part.

I had no idea she was a chef or that this "skinnygirl" was her brand. I've never had the instant margaritas, but I had heard of them from a friend. Note, I'm thin thanks mostly to genetics and also to a healthy diet and some exercise–so don't call me a fatty who's jealous–but this woman looks like she suffers from a serious eating disorder, drug use, and myriad other unhealthful things. But...I will give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she's a decent person and I'm sure there are people who love and care for her. And I will check out some of her recipes–it's good to know she's "famous" for being a chef and not just a reality TV "star." From television commericals regarding her shows, she seems dumb, but to be a chef, you have to have talent and intelligence.

I do not know if your realize this or forgot, but she participated in that ice skating show and lost a tremendous amount of weight because of the rigorous training involved. It reallly took a toll on her body and wore her out, so that is probably why she seems to look to "partied out" as you put it.

Now she pretends to hide from paparazzi on her show when you know damm well she loves that they follow her.. She is tottally obsessed with getting her name in the media

This wall put me in a good mood today because I'm SO happy that I'm not bitter like all these people on here! To think that it makes people feel so good in life to attack someone else is beyond me. I agree, why is it so hard for some people to just be happy for someone else who has been successful? It's a sad world we live in that all people want to do is bash other people on the internet for no reason at all. It makes me sad if any of these people have children...if they're this bitter at someone they don't even know and has never affected their lives, imagine how bitter their children will be after growing up with that example. She's awesome and I love her margaritas-she is smart, funny, independed and is very driven. Not to mention a beautiful woman and has such a great life with a great husband and beautiful child. Only the people who are jealous of her would say hurtful things against a person who is so successful.

I love Bethenny Frankel. She tells it like it is. She's a great mom, buisness person, wife and friend. She's also a beautiful woman with feelings and compassion for others. If half the people on here we a little bit like her this world would be a much nicer place. I'm happy for her success. She works hard at everything she does. Jealousy is the only reason you people have nothing nice to say about her.
I agree with you whole heatedly. I love this women she has come hard times and made good. She is real and honest which is a hell of a lot more than I can say for a lot of people. I can only imagine that these people that are putting Bethanny down are those that wish they had the balls to do what she has done. You go girl you have certainly inspired me.

It could be. But I know that it took more than a year for my hair to fill in after I had my baby. Women can lose a lot of hair from the hormone changes. It could just be the lighting, or it could be thinner from stress or having had a weave in for a while.
I would have to say it's probably the hair loss many women (myself included) experience after they have a baby. Stress can also do weird things to your body, including loss of chunks of hair.

No drinking & driving...please! This woman worked her ass off to get what she has. Her father basically wanted nothing to do with her as a child or adult...seems her mother didn't want her either. How very sad for Bethenney to have to deal with all that baggage as a youngster. Sometimes when you get hurt, you hurt back to "even the score".
Bethenney is an amazing chef & keeps herself in trim condition, which to many over weight Americans makes her look under-weight. She has a really beautiful baby girl & has met her match husband-wise...he knows how to give & take. I think it's great she's finally found happiness & I wish her well.
