Adrianne Palicki dons 'Wonder Woman' costume

About a month after Adrianne Palicki slid into the role of "Wonder Woman" for David E. Kelley's upcoming NBC pilot, the actress has slipped on the costume.

The magic lasso and bullet-deflecting bracelets that Lynda Carter famously wore in the '70s series appear to be intact, but the star-studded short-shorts? Not so much. Instead, we now have blue pants (shiny leggings is perhaps more descriptive) and blue boots instead of the classic red.

But, Entertainment Weekly notes, Kelley is keeping the plane in the pilot of this reboot, which he's said will portray Wonder Woman as a "real complex woman and not just a superhero." Meanwhile, NBC says that if the show is picked up for a series, they plan to offer a "serious, non-campy take" on the Amazing Amazon, a perspective that's tripped up at least one fan.

"I'm not saying that the WW costume is bad, but I think the costume looks a bit silly," tweeted talon842. "If this Wonder Woman series is a more serious in tone show, then the costume is a bit out of place. But if the show is more tongue-in-cheek, then the costume is fine."

Other reactions are similarly perplexed, with one person being able to accept the pants, but not the blue boots, while another feels those pants pay "homage to Evel Knievel. In a shiny skintight PVC kind of way."

But perhaps another viewer has it right: "Is the new Wonder Woman TV show costume perfect, no. Could it have been a lot worse, very much so yes!"

What do you think of the costume?

Superhero outfits are often butchered when they go from the pages of the comics to the TV or movies. The worst was all the X-Men movies, where everyone wore black leather and lost a lot of individuality. Speaking as a life-long comics aficianado, I am always disappointed seeing a hero that I've read about for 35 years altered by some dumb movie director to fit what they think the audience would accept for their costume, powers, origin, etc. I remember the dumb line that Cyclops asked Wolverine in the first X-Men: "What would you prefer, yellow spandex?" Actually, YES, I would. I'd much prefer Wolverine's traditional yellow costume as seen in the comics over the stupid black leather. Or one of his many previous, less-garish ones. Daredevil wore leather in his movie too, as opposed to his traditional red fabric tights. I guess they didn't want him to look gay. But then, Spiderman wears tights. Does he look gay? The Fantastic Four movies, as incredibly dumb and twisted from the comics version as they could get, at least got the costumes right, but that's about all. The Human Torch may be a little bit of hothead in the comics, but in the movies, he's the king of all dikks, arrogant to the point of ridiculousness. .And don't even get me started on Doctor Doom (generally considered one of the greatest villains in Marvel comics, and should have voice like Darth Vader), whose appearance in those movies is about as threatening as a used car salesman. Let's hope Thor doesn't get butchered by idiocy, that would break my heart.

Absolute RUBBISH!!! This new take on Wonder Woman is an EPIC JOKE & slap in the face to the iconic hero Wonder Woman is and stands for. Adrianne make me think of a double stuffed Oreo cookie with two eyes and a mouth yelling HELP!!! The whole idea for this NBC show that was cooked up by Warner Bros. & David E. Kelley stinks. Please let it flush down a toilet like 2000 flushes blue in those tacky blue pants she is wearing. Tweaked or not it still does not say Wonder Woman to me and the majority of long time fans. I will not be watching this turd in a Bozo the clown looking costume.

I like the new costume much better. 'More skin' won't help Palicki become Wonder Woman. Linda Carter filled out that costume. I doubt Linda could be cast on TV today with the bias to skinny women. Too bad.

I don't feel Palicki has the Presence to strike fear in the hearts of Evil Doers. The scripts BETTER be good. There is much to explore about Wonder Woman. Just to name a few, her relationship with Steve Trevor, her mother, and the Amazon community could all be explored and expanded upon.

OR you could create an Alternative Universe ala Smallville. It didn't seem to hurt them much. πŸ˜‰ I was disappointed at first, but it grew on me. I'm still disappointed that Clark hasn't put on the Red and Blue Cape and all, yet. The rest of it turned out fine.

Flashy Special Effects could also help this Series over come this Casting faux pas. Wonder Woman's bracelets, rope, and plane are her Standards. Some bright CGI artist needs to put some REAL flash and sparkle on them. There's other opportunities, too. Hire someone who's actually READ the comics!

It seems so logical to the Fans that those working this Project would already be Fans who really love it. But it seems too much to ask Producers and Executives to figure this out. Now you know.

Why does everyone insist on comparing her to Lynda Carter?

When Tim Burton was casting "Batman" was everyone saying, "he's no Adam West and it HAS to be like Adam West." When Chris Nolan was casting "Batman Begins" was everyone saying, "it has to be like Michael Keaton."

Don't compare comic book characters to the actors that played them. Compare Adrianne to the source material, not the actress that played her on the corny (but wholly enjoyable) TV series of the 70s.

    March 31, 2011 at 3:43 pm | Report abuse |

Nobody compared Michael Keaton to the Adam West Batman because West was a joke. Though I liked it for it's time period you can't compare that to Lynda as Wonder Woman. And it's not so much about her show and the bad writers it had off and on. It's about how much she became that character and embodied the true essence of a living breathing Wonder Woman. Now granted this thing in the costume does not have to look like Lynda Carter as nobody will EVER look that good as Wonder Woman but she should at least look like Wonder Woman. The only thing they did was update the HORRIBLE Cathy Lee Crosby outfit from 1974 so it would look even more horrible for today. Adrianne looks attractive as a blonde but I'm sorry, ugly as a fake brunette. Not too mention the whole show is FAKE. Hair color, boobs, the script is watered down, and that costume needs to be burned with the return of the original version. At least in every Batman project he has a costume that still says BATMAN. This just spells Bargain basement trash ready for a Saturday Night Live skit. Fail soon please and lets get a project that reflects the REAL WONDER WOMAN.

This choice of Wonder Woman is horrible. I don't like the costume and the woman is a far cry from Lynda Carters beauty. I agree she needs to be darker and have more muscle. The storyline is horrible as well. I am afraid this show will be a flop.

I think the blue pants are ok, but are lacking white stars (even if they were few in number), they should be there. I think the boots should be red, and the belt and tiara should look less cheap than they do. They really look like they belong on a power ranger. Lets hope the TV show is more serious and true to the superheroine than this costume. I am rooting for the show's success.....after all the Batman and Superman movies and TV shows, it is hard to believe that Wonderwoman still has not had the treatment and range she deserves.

Meh, I don't like it. Not because I'm opposed to change, but simply because it's way too shiny, and the boots should be red. With the blue boots the outfit looks somehow unfinished. tone down the shininess some, give her back her red boots, and don't ever make her stand in that ridiculous, off-balance pose again, and I'll be content. As for the actress, I don't know her, but I'm happy to give her a chance. Remember that concept, all you negative nellies? Giving someone a chance?

First off, Bridget Regan was my first choice for wonder woman because she's already good at acting and stage combat (as shown in the show "Legend of the Seeker") and also, she has a near perfect physical appearance. Now, I'm not saying Adrianne is necessarily bad, I just know absolutely nothing about her or her abilities.

The costume sucks. Now, the "design" of the costume had a decent idea going for it. (Red boots would have been better, but that's just my opinion)

The reason the costume sucks, is because it looks completely cheap. I mean, seriously, I find better quality superhero costumes at halloween express. I mean, Vinyl? Really? This costume looks absolutely fake and cheap. They couldn't make it out of the same materials as say, I dunno, Spiderman's costume? It had some major potential, until they chose the fabric! The gold accents look even MORE fake. They should have gone with a gold leaf fabric like Lynda Carter's top had, the gold on this looks plastic.

So to sum it up. Good Idea. HORRIBLE execution of said idea.

Although WonderWoman is Greek, it still makes sense that she would wear the red, white, and blue from the Linda Carter version because the USA is the birthplace of MODERN democracy and democracy originated in Athens, Greece. So it's a Greek invention. So it makes sense the Amazon Princess would adopt the USA as her new home.
Can't stand the blue pants. They should just go back to the outfit design from the 70's TV version which is more of a classic look. Another problem is that she's wearing a headband instead of a tiara. Am I the only one that remembers the tiara is not just ornamental but it is also a weapon that WW throws at her enemies like a boomerang? The show might make it 1 season before cancellation. If you saw the larger picture posted on other websites, it would be clear to most people how cheap looking this costume really is.

The series hasn't come out yet but you can already tell it's outcome...BOMB! We're suppose to take someone dressed in that outfit seriously? Is this "Dancing with the Superhero Stars"? Why would you change anything from the original outfit? How ridicules would Superman look without a cape? Wonder Woman in pants? Blue boots? Why not just change her to Wonder Man while you're at it. This is about as dumb as casting a bald, black guy as Nick Fury. If you don't like the original character, why not create something NEW? From the looks of this costume, I wonder who's going to watch this show.

Too bad casting directors have decided that SuperHERO means SuperMODEL. Not the same thing at all. This "Wonder Woman" looks like she would cry if I pinched her. Wonder Woman is an AMAZON. She has muscles. She kicks rear end. Think Jessica Beihl in Blade 3. My suspension of disbelief doesn't work well enough to imagine this squishy thing kicking anyone's behind. As far as the costume goes...I will never understand messing with something that has been around and has worked perfectly for years.

If you're going to insist on bringing back a classic, you either have to bring it back and honor that classic – as in LEAVE THE COSTUME ALONE or update it completely so that the new generation of audience can appreciate it.

Clearly, fans of the classic are going to hate this for so many reasons already listed above. And then on top of it you've ruined what chances were there for attracting a new, younger audience by making the costume into something that the audience today doesn't want. They don't want skin-tight metallic costumes today.

Sorry, costume designers need a complete redo.

    Here, folks.
Here's how DC themselves view Wonder Woman, based on the art of Jim Lee – released THIS MONTH as a collectors action figure based on DC Universe Online.

Sorry to say that, other than the hair, Palicki fails to impress as a "modern" Amazon Wonder Woman. And, yes, David E. Kelley will kill this show. Let's see how well other superhero shows have fared this year. No Ordinary Family? Sets are being deconstructed, lead male character working on another pilot. The Cape? Show buy reduced by 3, last episode buried online only. The superhero genre, even if it's a throwback to an old 70s show, just doesn't have mass appeal to survive.

Would be a nice completion of the tie in the writers seemed to be trying to establish, "I've met the most wonderous woman that will knock you for a loop". Have to agree on the over Blueness of the lower part of the costume, maybe lighten it up with some white stars down one leg the way WonderGirls earlier costume was or yes Red for the boots

If David E. doesn't want it to be campy then they need to rethink the costume. They should tone down the colors a bit so it is not as flashy and bring back the red boots. WW is based on a comic and there has to be some things original. Seems like everyone is stuck on Linda Carter, sorry but this is a reboot so it doesn't matter who plays WW, it is a different take on things... its been over 30 years since the original TV show, get over it! I think that there's a time and a place for the original costume if needed, but pants and jacket would help provide more protection if she's fighting someone. After all, you don't see Batman fighting in his undies, do you?

Not whether her boots are blue, skin is pale, or whether she looks enough like Lynda Carter or not. If the writing isn't there, then nothing will work.

She does not fit, Wonder women was thick, she not only had big breasts but she had hips and booty. Wonder women is an amazon and they were all potrayed as thick women. Not all skinny with implants. Go look at a comic book. Big breast "natural", flat stomach, hips, ass and thick thighs. Dont get me wrong this women is beautiful, but she is no wonder women queen of the amazons.

I would have to see the pilot to see if it works for me. I'm partial to the Linda Carter version, but that's because I grew up with it. From the waist up, the new Wonder Woman costume looks great, but the baby blue pants and boots look odd. If the boots were red, I think it might help to balance things out. This costume is based on the latest one in the comic books. For all people complaining this is not the "original" they have changed her costume MANY times since the comic was created in the 1940's. (Originially she wore a skirt, but that made problems when the bad guys could see her undies) The one from the old TV show was dropped by the comic book long ago. This new TV show will not last long; WW has always been a third-rate superhero; nothing to see here, folks...move along.

Miss the classic WW costume plus, still...high heels ?
Come on, WW hadn't worn heels since the reboot in the comics in the '80s on.
She (the actress, that is...) looks a little pale (WW supposed to grow up on a tropical island) and also she looks little thin, doesn't look like she could kick super-villain butt at all (WW supposed to be an equal to Superman).
As for the plotline which I've heard sounds a little strange, Diana Prince is a corporate executive ? Whoever is producing this has definitely never read a WW comic... this is gonna suck.
I agree with one of the responders to this article, that if this was made 10 years ago, Monica Bellucci would have been a great WW, I agree but it's not 10 years ago, for today, I would have liked American Gladiators's Gina Carano, she looks she could kick butt and can ! Plus she's attractive w/ a great smile.
That's, boots should be the way.

The costume looks like it comes from some whips and leather fetish store. Whoever designed that costume really missed the boat on this one. NO PANTS!!!!!!!!! She looks like she was dipped in blue metallic paint. Very tacky! And what's this with the blue boots? Wonder Woman's boots were RED!!! NOT blue! The top looks okay, but the pants and blue boots need to go. IF the director of this show is trying to give us a "serious" take on Wonder Woman, then he shouldn't dress her to look like bimbo.

I want to know what "producers" are really after. They are given a character fully realized, proven to be marketable, and the stories are already written and loved by fans. So the first thing a "producer" wants to do is change everything. Every adaption so far has been way out there and off base. So yes your Wonder Woman is Wonder Woman in the "producers" name only. No red boots no shorts no Wonder Woman. BTW looks a little skinny to. Amazon i think not.

I know nothing about the girl, but the metallic Halloween costume has to go. I loved the series growing up and thought I was her since we had the same name and am really disappointed that even though Linda Carters outfit was smaller, this one is more revealing. Not sure how many parents of small kids want their kids to watch a show where the girl has an invisible plane, but can't buy a larger top. I think the top is should come up just a bit, not to ruin the look, but to make it a little more watchable for a broader audience... and I don't mind it looking like satin, but the metallic is just too S & M for a kids superhero....

She's a terrible choice to play Wonder Woman, her head is too big and chubby. Wonder Woman is supposed to be hot, not the after girl for a Jenny Craig advertisement.

I would much more preferred the new look in the comics. This look is so out of date and does not lend itself to anything but a campy approach to the story line. All of that said, I will wait and see, but concur that the actress needs to do some heavy work outs and look more the part.

Don't like it at all. Adrianne is beautiful and deserves better. From the waist up, it's awesome. From the waist down is a nightmare. There is no femininity, even for an amazonian type character. She looks too butch. A male character in my opinion would not have an instant attraction to her. Do men go to the beach to see beautiful women in tights or pants? In the obsession to make Wonder Woman more modern, she has lost that which makes her great, a brave, bold, SEDUCTIVE woman. Ru-Paul or someone like this should have helped in the designing of the costume. Seriously.

REALLY....... I realize that the producers are trying attract today's audience, but come on, spandex. Never change what was presented in the comics. Or for that matter, change what Linda Carter made into an icon. Even today, she will always be WONDER WOMAN. I'm gay, she was/is so incredibly HOT, I would have lasso'd for the other team. The key word here is WOMAN...... So stop "Skirt"ing on the real issue.

She is definitely no Lynda Carter I must say. I wish they had gotten Megan Fox in the role. As for the costume, it is a bit over the top, especially if they are going for the serious- but knowing Kelley's work, the show won't be too serious!

My first thought was 'dominatrix costume'. She doesn't look like much of an amazon either. I assume Wonder Woman will not be WW related in the new series. No one wore clothing like this back then. Either give us authentic style clothing or leave Wonder Woman alone. Perhaps they should just leave Wonder Woman alone and let us enjoy the reruns or comics peacefully.

New Wonder woman, new outfit. Why should it matter what the costume looks like. The colors themes are still at least the same. In truth the costume has nothing to do with the story plot, except for the bracelets and the lasso. The shorts never had any special abilities. And I am positive that she will be able to fight crime just as well in spandex as she could in booty shorts. Seriously, how many times have they changed the Batman outfit. They didn't keep the original gray suit from the tv show and they did just fine with it. And so what if the outfit is changed, at worse it will keep perverts from watching this show and trying to oogle her lady junk and what a big whoop that is. And seriously, in today's editing, and with it not being a live action tv show, there won't even be a hint of a nip slip, unless it's in the script.

Catherine Zeta-Jones would be great for the role of wonderwoman. She portrays those qualites of WW strong beautiful caring and passionate. And the outfit should be more realistic real polyester cause the latex just isn't flattering.

I just realized she was the pregnant waitress in Legion. Why in the world did they pick her out of all the beautiful talented actresses out there? She's 28, older than Lynda Carter when she was WW, but she seems more girlish and wrong for the role. I also agree with everyone else about red boots. Speaking of awful remakes, they are also doing another Charlie's Angels.

Seriously, who cares what she looks like? Anyone that has kids that are going to have a role model based on something they see on TV or a movie (or a comic book) aren't being raised right, especially if they might develop an eating disorder to try and look like them (and let's be fair, that can be a threat to some of the more fem male children, too. I remember a guy in the 2nd grade that would spin around pretending to be WW). It's no more okay to trash a girl for being underweight than it is to trash a girl for being overweight. I've seen girls automatically hate other girls because they are threatened by their looks, and even want to fight a pretty girl by accusing them of flirting with their boyfriend or husband, all because they are in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a hateful, jealous girl that's overweight.

Don't sweat the small things in life. The girl looks good (she HARDLY looks like some 12 year old boy with breast implants, as some people have claimed). I'd have to worry about someone's inside thoughts if they really thought that and weren't just being sarcastic. Also, she may have implants, but do we know this? If people want comic accurate, this is what a lot of the super heroines look like, physically, at least more than other actresses. She looks the part enough, let's see what her acting is like now in this role. If you ask me, regardless of whom they get, it's going to be a bad idea and won't last anyway, especially when you consider all of the crappy reality TV stuff out there, there's very little scripted roles left (and apparently the few that are, are just awful ideas anyway, like this).

The 1970's Wonder Woman show explained the reasoning behind the costume. She was supporting the USA in it's efforts during WWII. She wore the eagle (an American symbol), the stars (on the US flag), and her boots (red with white stripe – symbolizing the stripes on the US flag), she was meant to be a representation of the United States. This costume is interesting but what is the meaning behind it? Superheroes costumes have reasons for why they are what they are and not just because they are pretty.

The costume is fine, I just hope they have not made WW too young. The lead character in the BONES series is abit young compared to the lead character in the books the weries is based on. Strange mixture of Cathy Lee Crosby and the comic book character. Missing are the stars, which to me is part of Wonder Woman's outfit. To be true to the comic book character the boots SHOULD be red, but my guess is this tv show will be nothing close to paying homage to the comic strip.

Okay, there's been a lot of talk here about what's healthy and toned. I was a size 1 or 2 for most of my life, not by starving myself, but because I had an incredible metabolism. My body temp rose right after eating and burned on until it was gone. I was constantly told how "great" I looked. I was not healthy. I had no reserve calories for illness. Try having the flu for a few days with no reserve calories to fight back. I had no stamina. Size 10's could beat me at anything that took longer than fifteen minutes. After years of struggling I've finally made it to a size 6 in the summer and 8 in the winter. I'm healthier and stronger than I've ever been. This new WW does NOT look strong and healthy to me. I know what she is, as do all the "hot" chicks out there. She's not my hero, she's my very bad memory. All you guys who pressure women into a size 1, just remember, stamina counts when it comes to performance. Unless you're not looking for women who can actually DO anything, because you can't actually DO anything yourselves. Just saying.....

If folks want to see the complete history of the evolution of the Wonder Woman costume, they can find it on my site: This version is modeled after the "alternate universe" version of WW that's been running instead of her in her comic since last June. They've deleted the most egregious parts of that outfit, but have kept the odd headband (they can't call it a tiara anymore). I have to wonder just how long it takes to put this on and take it off, and how many bottles of talc they go through each time. And for folks wondering about the Invisible Jet: the TV WW will have a fleet of jets that come in different colors, so she can match the proper one to her outfit of the day, I suppose.

The question I would ask is do you really want us to take this show seriously? If you do, I have to agree wit the person in the article that this costume doesn't portray that image. My suggestion...add some tiny sleeves. The strapless top is too much. Reminds me of the 1950's Barbie swimsuit. I like the clean look you were going for in the blue leggings and blue boots but the gold trim on the boots disrupt that look. She might as well have red boots if you were going to do that to the boots. What about doing away with knee high boots and having her wear ankle height boots. It seems you have tried to advance her forward to our times but failed miserably.

The costume looks ridiculous. Unless they're going for Xena-style campy then they should have tried to compromise between the look of the original costume and something that would be practical to wear while whuppin' some bad guys. As for the actress, she doesn't look athletic enough and she doesn't have the haughty sneer that I want to see on Wonder Woman. And before any of you freaks think that I'm saying that she's not skinny enough that's not the intention. She looks scrawny and soft. Wonder Woman is supposed to be a super-powerful freaking PRINCESS. They weaken the strongest of them, the daughter of the Queen when they place her in a society full of men. The storyline should have kept the Amazon's abhorrence of men. But no, they make her love sick for the first guy that comes along, corny Col. Trevor and his playboy mentality. Here's a point in time where someone could have gotten it right. She could have remained dedicated to her code. It would have made her stronger even more so then making her susceptible to the triviality of the male species...

Everyone cries about how much they would like to have a gay/lesbian super hero, well...The New Tales of Wonder Woman should have been easy for someone with a brain!

Wow – she is gorgeous! Even if the costume is "wrong", she looks like an awesome crimefighter to me. I sort of liked the traditional supershorts and red boots, but I'll get over it.

What I may not get over is a totally non-campy WW show. They can tackle serious issues and keep the camp appeal (Buffy did this well). If the show takes itself too seriously, I'll probably lose interest pretty quickly, but I'm sure others would disagree.

Too bad they did not find an actress who was not ashamed of her body and legs. The producers just lost millions in sales of posters and figurines. Multi-millions for casting the wrong actress and costume designer. The New Coke did not work out very well, and the New Wonder Woman costume will suffer the same fate. One good thing, Lynda Carter image as the best Wonder Woman will remain, and sales in her likeness will increase tenfold.

I grew up reading Wonder Women comics and watching the TV show. Adrianne fits the role perfectly as the new Wonder Woman, but the costume has to go. The whole appeal of Wonder Woman was her womanly qualities as exhibited in her costumne and her kick ass responses. Who wants a dressed Evil Knievel woman? And why does Wonder Woman’s costume have to be changed? I don’t see a new costume for Superman or Batman.

She doesn't fit the role AT ALL. She's a glamazon, not an Amazon. The queen of the Amazons would be WAY more buff than this chick. I doubt she could pull a bowstring or wield a magic lasso. Too bad the actress who played Xena Warrior Princess is a bit too old to play the part.

I'd be thinking twice. Also, use the brain you were given & not the one your using now. You make your daughters, wives, & mothers look pretty bad. Use what you were given for right not wrong. This thing is supposed to be about the costume and not the "TRASH SITE" y'all are using it for. Get back to the subject & stick to it.

yeah, totally messed up costume. leggings rather than shorts? no big deal. blue boots instead of red? completely changes the image. she looks unbalanced. maybe the whole purpose is to keep people focused on the red (upper half, i.e., chest)? anyway, the whole blue boots thing makes her look unrecognizable. so she's wearing blue leotards and a red corset. the "wow" factor is missing.

Perhaps she lost the white stars (both in the comics and in this show) because Wonder Woman is, how shall I put this.....NOT American. Actually, the classic Wonder Woman costume was redesigned to include the pants because Joe Straczynski (the current writer of the book) always felt that the blue bikini bottoms she always wore were ridiculous for a hand-to-hand fighter. The actress looks either unathletic or extremely uncomfortable with the photo shot. Her arms are in a position that doesn't make a lot of sense, give the position of her legs. First of all: Yes, her breasts are popping out of that top. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that, as there are far too many perverts to prevent this. Secondly: The rest of the costume design would be fine... except that it looks like it's made out of plastic. Seriously, cloth and metal, people, cloth and metal. Also, a little color differentiation between the boots and the 'pants' would be great, preferably by darkening the pants. Also, that particular lipstick is trashy. Off with it.

Again, my main problem with this outfit is that it looks like shiny plastic. Like a cheap costume bought at a party store. Everyone knows that even if your show is low budget, you STILL spend just a little bit more on the main characters, because the camera is on THEM most of the time, meaning that the flaws show up horribly.

I agree with the idea that the costume could have been far worse. Or there could have been no costume. Some people are anti-costume because they think it automatically makes it campy, but I disagree. It was too much to hope for a costume exactly like the comic books (since that recent redesign is clearly just temporary) but this is actually a lot closer than I expected. Better than having no costume or doing something completely against the comic book like they did with the Cathy Lee Crosby TV movie back in 1974.

Although I think the old school (start-studded split skirt) costume is the best, a modern Wonder Woman would best be served in the jumpsuits from the late '60s – although I'd like to see the bracelets and the lasso (maybe as a belt?) added – along with protective headgear that covers the sides and front of her head but allows her hair to show.

I think she looks alright. It is an updated look. However, I think Lynda Carter's figure represents women in general. Not based on the picture, I do feel that the series will tank big time. Superhero TV shows aren't what people want to watch anymore. I know Smallville has had a long run, but NBC + Wonder Woman (or other superhero) = 0. I hate to say it...just being realistic. People would rather watch the same-old same-old train wreck reality show. A show like this would fair better on a cable network, like HBO.

Couldn't agree more. Too many ppl on here are stuck in the Carter years of WW. There has been decades of time for the WW story to change. Heck, there was a time she didn't even have powers at all.

If you want to get back to the old school WW, Miss Palicki needs to end up bound with her own lasso. I am sure there would be more than one feminist that would be furious with WW ending up like a classic damsel.

Most of the DC Comics superheroes were kind of one-dimensional (I mean, come on, Superman's only weakness was a green crystal), but that's just DC's legacy, and I think it's great. Why can't superheroes just fight for good and justice and not be psychological basket cases? Marvel has done very well with their more complex superheroes, and that's great, too. DC Comics doesn't have to try to be Marvel.

This show is going to be EPIC FAIL. Who knew Wonder Woman has some falsies installed before she left her island? Too bad WB/DC still can't figure out the Marvel way outside of Batman for their properties. It's a shame they couldn't have made this show 10 years ago with Monica Bellucci as the lead. You know, a Mediterranean (Italian) woman who actually might remotely pass as Greek and is also tall/stacked like the comic character???

Onesity is very unattractive and ugly. No one want to see fat spilling out of waist and back. The lard spilling out of your body is a sign of bad health.

It's nice to see a Wonder Woman whose toned and healthy.

@Gen - She's neither toned nor healthy. She's 10-20 lbs underweight, and so thin that she had to have prosthetic boobs put back in her chest because she starved hers off. I don't think you have any idea of what fit, toned women of a healthy weight actually look like. Today's media portrayals of women are WAY out of touch with reality, and have without a doubt skewed your perception of a healthy, fit woman.

Now the costume looks pretty good overall. The only problem may be that if WW has to run, her outfit better be made by the gods of Olympus or she is going to be pouring out of her top. The leggings and boots are ok as far as texture goes. Not feeling the overall blueness though.

All in all, not a bad modern day version for WW. Now I am curious how Diana Prince will look...plz no bun.

Hello, Wonder Woman is an Amazon. She beats things to a bloody pulp without breaking a sweat. She's the ideal of an empowered (but not necessarily feminist) woman. She is NOT a pencil. She should be represented by an air of confidence, by being physically fit for battle without being muscle-bound. She should not be wearing a movement-constricting outfit that creaks when she moves. Lynda Carter looks to me like the ideal Wonder Woman. Adrianne Palicki looks to me like an underfed model posing for fanboys.

Consider who is producing this. David E. Kelley–the king of the Eating Disorder Divas. Remember Ally McBeal. Jane Karowski was considered the fat one. Several of the women have now come out and admitted to eating disorders while on the show. I am not saying he is to blame for their eating disorders or that Ms. Palicki has one. I am just saying Mr. Kelly seems to have a certain type he likes to cast. (i.e. Calista Flockhart, Portia De Rossi, Courtney Thorrne-Smith, Laura Flynn Boyle). To his credit he also gave us Camryn Manheim, but had several episodes dealing with her weight issues–never an issue for the skinny girls.

@The Flash – you are one of the reasons why so many young women have eating disorders today. Your view on what women are supposed to look like is distorted. Very disappointing that several men here feel that this type of body is considered normal and healthy. Women are supposed to have curves and look like women – not barbie dolls. You cannot make WW PC it's just not possible with keeping with the story. WW is not an average middle-aged mom of three nor should she ever be portrayed that way. She is a freaking AMAZON PRINCESS not just Jane Q. Public, such ignorance...

@Peacelove – You are correct. Most women aren't size 1 &2. That's because, like most men, most women in the U.S. are fat. Let's face it, anything over a size 8-10 depending on height starts getting into "too many Big Macs" territory.

I can live with the pants, but the boots really should be red. I am assuming this is only one of several costumes, however. If you remember the original series or follow the comic books, you will know that Wonder Woman, unlike many other superheroes has several different costumes. A woman should always have the option to change her look.
As for Adrianne Palicki, I guess we will just have to live with that choice. I believe Nadia Brojlin would have been a much better option.

The only skintight outfits I liked were on the X-Men. The only reason I see for anyone to wear an outfit like this while fighting crime is to hope that a boob will pop out and distract the enemy during a fight. I agree they should keep some of the spirit of the comic - but if this is supposed to be a serious show, they have some work to do on the costume.

I think the costume is great. She wears it well.

Who cares about the color, you nerds? What about the fact that it's a glorified bondage costume? Head to toe in tacky leather? This looks terrible.

She looks beautiful. I can't wait to watch the show. I used to watch it in the 1970s and was a big fan.

I think this show will go the way of The Bionic Woman in that it will be cancelled after 1 season. The actress is beautiful no doubt but looks nothing like WW from the comics. WW has black hair not brown. She also also has muscles I'm not saying she has to be Chyna (from WWE) sized but she should have some definition. Also why is she so pale? Does the WW pictured actually look like she grew up on a tropical island? That's a rhetorical question by the way!

"Also why is she so pale? Does the WW pictured actually look like she grew up on a tropical island? That's a rhetorical question by the way!"

Here's the rhetorical answer; It's what people want to see, and she IS closer to Linda Carter, regardless of what others here think. You might reverse your question regarding the highly controversial casting of a black man as Thor in Britain's comic/tv series. Everyone knows where Thor is from and what he is supposed to look like. But I recall Wonder Woman from comics back in the '60s. She was portrayed as white, with blue eyes and perceptively "pale" skin. (Classic authors have described such skin as "white a the finest alabaster." Any intent to demean here? Just a rhetorical question.

I'd prefer they stick with the iconic costume. The new outfit's not bad, but it's not very cool either. =/

Tanya has it absolutely correct. The boots needed to be red, with those blue pants.

Those boats should have been RED, period.

I don't like her AT ALL. I hate the costume, I hate her face, I HATE this choice for Wonder Woman! She looks so uncomfortable in that pose. Blech! There were so many other women I could think of who would have been a better choice. Almost anyone would!

She looks like a 12 year old dressed up with too much red lipstick. Lynda Carter carried a sophisticated, mature style. You can't see that here.

Like this show is ever going to last. NBC is pulling this out of their butts. Wonder Womnan fit in well back in the 1970's with Linda Carter but I can't see the American public these days embracing this show. The pilot will bring in good ratings but lets see if it makes it past the 9th episode before being yanked.

Well, she doesn't have the face for it, that's for sure. Wonder Woman's facial structure has changed over the years, with the original comics evoking the cherubic roundness of Rosie the rivetter as that was the iconography of feminine strength at that time. In the past 40 years, her face has become more angular and hard, high cheek bones and sharp jawline evoking a toughness that could stand up to a superman. This actress has the low cheek bone round face that doesn't exude the same strength as Superman.

Imagine a guy with Seth Rogan's face playing Superman. Ryan Reynolds fits the green lantern bill for a reason (among others), he's got the face for it.

I'd like to see more muscle on her – but hey – that's a lot to ask for someone who is going to portray an AMAZON.

Whatever, honestly, she doesn't *really* matter. If the writing is strong, the part will be hers. Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't last 7 seasons on the strength of Sara Michelle Gellar's acting. It was all about the scrpts.

The upper portion is just fine. We need to see more leg. How about a short mini skirt. Color doesn't matter. Just more skin.

A younger Lucy Lawless would have been a perfect Wonder Woman, hands down. As for the costume, it looks like sometime you can buy from a Halloween costume outlet. I'm not a big fan of the big eagle on her breastplate nor the light blue color on her pants. I think a darker shade of her costume would have worked better, along with a bad new pair of boots. πŸ˜›

I think the actress does not resemble a amazon woman. She is too thin and does not have a presence. This costume is too hollywood politically correct. This is a cartoon character. Red boots I think should be returned and the woman should be bigger and taller. Linda Carter had a presence. When she was in Sky Hi, she had that presence.

new wonder woman costume must have RED boots w/WHITE stripe not blue w/gold! arm bands must be gold not silver! I have worn the WW costume on too many occasions and fashioned my own boots for it to accept this blasphemy.
