Christina Aguilera: I wasn't really myself as a teen star

Christina Aguilera has had her share of negative press lately, being criticized for her movie "Burlesque," making headlines with the breakup of her marriage, and getting arrested with her new boyfriend, who was suspected of driving under the influence.

Now, she's starting a positive chapter in her life as a mentor on the upcoming singing competition "The Voice." Aguilera will help guide emerging talent, and tells CNN she wishes she had someone doing the same for her in the early stages of her career.

"I was so green to the business," she says. "I was so thrilled and excited to get my first record deal that I allowed myself to sort of be molded or get labeled some things that sort of take hold and [made] me out to be what they wanted [me] to be… I think that you can only shine your best when you are able to be yourself. And that's what I want these people to be able to do."

Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton will also serve as mentors on the NBC show, which premieres April 26, and Aguilera believes she'll bring a lot to the table.

"I'm on a constant journey and I'd not be the best I can if I wasn't always taking the good with the bad and learning from things and experiences," she tells CNN. "So that's another great thing that I get to share with these people — my own experiences throughout the years."

Why does her head look like a bobble head? What has happened to her face?! Her body looks like the old Christinia and her face looks bloated. Did she get cheek implants?

It is true, she has gained some weight; however, its expected she is going through a divorce. It is obvious that she is going through some things in her personal life. First she screwed up the national anthem, took a tumble at the Grammy’s, and then she was arrested. Side note: I never really liked her voice, its ok, but that is my personal opinion.

I've never had any problems with this girl. She has an amazing voice, and I personally couldn't possibly care less about any of the "Scandals" or bad press she's gotten lately. At least she's a singer who can actually sing. Seems to be rare these days.

I hope you are happy with yourself. Your comment is so unnecessary. I don't know this lady but entertainment is her job. That does not mean you have to abuse her or say mean things just because you have nothing better to do. Shame on you.

Beautiful, amazingly talented girl!!! I hope she gets things straightened out. Loved her in Burlesque! Can't understand why she's so criticized. I think being a mentor, for The Voice is a very good move for her. I wish her all the best and hope she can be herself! It's the only way.

The music industry destroys people. Christina is just one of the many puppets that they use to mold into what they want them to be, how to act, what kind of music to make, how they look, etc. etc. It's a real shame, because she's a very talented woman, with an outstanding voice. I feel bad for what she's going through, but she's only human just like the rest of us.

Something about Christina has always annoyed me from the get go, BUT... I hope she is able to turn herself around. She hasn't been having a very good year so far.

I'm not sure why she annoys you or other people. I know most people either really like her or don't. I think she's an amazing singer. i don't love all her songs or the spin she puts on some things. However, the girl can WAIL! I liked Candyman a lot and wish she did more from that genre.
