Paltrow was faking CMAs nerves, says pal Batali

If you believe Gwyneth Paltrow's pal Mario Batali, the actress deserves an Academy Award for her performance at this years CMAs. The celebrity chef says he doesn't believe the polished Paltrow was at all intimidated to sing in front of the powerhouse country crowd.

Prior to making her live-singing debut at the November 10 event, Paltrow admitted in a radio interview, "If I don't faint, if I can just get through it, it'll be OK. Most people start in a bar, then a bigger bar, then maybe a theater. You're not supposed to just start at the CMAs. It's a little scary."

But Batali, who appeared with Paltrow on the 2008 PBS food-and-travel series "Spain… On the Road Again," isn't buying it.

"I think it looked good that she looked a little nervous at the Country Music Awards," he told Vulture of her "Country Strong" performance. "I thought she was playing nervous," he added. "She's a talented actress."

If Paltrow was actually fearless, it's only because she did plenty of prepping before taking the Nashville stage.

"I studied Beyoncé a lot and her concerts for her kind of confidence," Paltrow, who is married to rocker Chris Martin,  has revealed. "I'm lucky that I know some singers in real life."

She was faking it, because she's a fake...
Yah! that's right, now she thinks she's a singer, because she is friend with Beyonce.
Wasn't she friend with Madonna also.
    What happened to their friendship...
Fake, fake, fake, all the way....

Today's modern country is just pop music with a southern accent. Give me Waylon, Willie, George and Johnny. Gwyneth? no thanks

I don't buy that she was faking her nerves. She sounded awful at the CMA's and the Oscars. Face it Gwyneth you can't sing. Stick to acting.

Can't stand this woman. Now she thinks she is a singer, previously she was blogging all this great advice. She isn't even a passable actress.

You're bashing country? what you do listen to? Bieber? Gaga? Most of today's popular music is engineered to appeal to the lowest common denominator so they can sell the most albums. You have to search out the good stuff on your own. The Media Machine just wants your money! They don't care about real music.

Hate to break it to ya, but modern country is right up there with all that stuff you just mentioned.

    Here is a similar story

Actresses playing country singers seem to be in vogue. First, Gwyneth Paltrow was in "Country Strong." Now, Jennifer Aniston is going to star in "The Goree Girls," about female prisoners who form a country band in Texas in a musical set in the 1940s.

The also includes Pam Tillis and Jennette McCurdy, a teen country singer, along with Kelly Rowland, who once was with Destiny's Child. Others in the movie include Sandra Oh and Ellen Pompeo.

The band is comprised of prisoners, who served time at Goree Prison. A 2003 article in Texas Monthly inspired the movie.

An article in the Huffington Post quoted Aniston as saying The Goree Girls were ""sort of the Dixie Chicks of their time."

No timetable was set for the movie.

Aniston has been trying to get Goree girls off the gorund for years, long before Paltrow stepped to the mic

Was she faking how freakin awful she sounded at the Oscars? I can't decide who is worse singing live, her or Taylor Swift.

She was HORRIBLE at the Oscars. If she wasn't nervous, she shoulda been.

The real problem here is that they are both really bad! So I would say it is a tossup!

Well if she is singing you know she wasn't nervous. Country music doesn't take an ounce of talent to make irritating imbreeded redneck sounds or have much rhythm. Though I will give credit to members of any band for playing instruments though with country It's annoying.

Ignorant people such as you should not leave opinions. Country Music is a great American art form, just as jazz, blues, and rock and roll are. It's filled with story-based songs that are relatable to aspects of most people's lives. Don't fall for stereotypes or what you think you know....actually listen to an hour of Country Music and I guarantee you will like some of it. Some of the most talented songwriters, singers, and musicians making commercial music today are making Country Music.

is he trying to compliment her? he is listed as a "friend" but this almost seems like a bash. I don't think she seemed excessively nervous,so I don't really get where this is coming from; she seemed more nervous at the Academy Awards, IMO.
