Julianne Hough joins Tom Cruise in 'Rock of Ages'Julianne Hough hasn't been kicking up her heels since leaving "Dancing with the Stars." The busy beauty is making movies, and she just landed a leading role in the big-screen adaptation of the '80s-based Broadway musical "Rock of Ages." According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hough—who appeared in "Burlesque" and will star in the upcoming "Footloose" remake—will play Sherrie, a small-town girl who moves to Hollywood with dreams of being an actress. She catches the eye of bad-boy rocker Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise) but rejects him before finding her true love at the end. Director Adam Shankman says Hough was "nothing short of a miracle" during her audition, adding, "It was a star-is-born moment."
As Marquee previously reported, Taylor Swift was originally attached to the role of Sherrie. Mary J. Blige has already signed on to play strip club owner Justice, and both Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin are being eyed for the roles Lonnie and Dennis, the manager and owner of the club where Sherrie works. "Rock of Ages," which features the songs of Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Twisted Sister and Pat Benatar, will begin production in May.

The current Broadway Sherry is way prettier and more talented than the country singer dancer. She should stick to dancing and the the pros do the work.
Rock of Ages is a Broadway Musicial. Maybe they should consider dubbing for Cruise's voice. It is tough enough to get the public to see a movie musical, but when you have a non-singer it makes it even worse. The same goes for Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin.
I have to wonder...why all the Tom Cruise hate? I mean...jumping on the couch? That's the make-or-break of it? I mean I've heard of hating someone because they killed off thousands of his own people, because they beat their wife and kids, because they were driving drunk and paralyzed someone, or even because they I don't know, stole something from you...but the guy jumps on a couch on a daytime show, granted maybe kind of goofy but who actually cares, and you hate him?
Well since you all are prim and proper, never breaking out of the appropriate and polite and normal character set forth by, well whoever created the norms for public display, then I guess...oh wait, you're talking trash about an actor on the internet and basing it all on his religion and five seconds on Oprah.

A lot of fans don't know that Tom Cruise is a better dancer than he is an actor. But that's not saying much.

It's obvious that Julianne Hough has to pass an audition and the role was just "given" to Cruise because he owns a studio. It could happen that Cruise will win the Academy Award with this role. But his chances of winning is just as high as Charlie Sheen staying clean.

I don't hate him. I used to like him but he seem to have gotten all weired out in the past few years..lol. For some strange reason I see him more as a puppet master to his wife/previous wives behind closed doors. Something is not right with him. I won't be surprised that he tops Charlie Sheen. He most likely make Charlis Sheen look like a p.u.-.$.y if his (Tom C.) dirt gets out. Sorry I'm not saying to be hateful.

Who's Tom Cruise?
This is the most mis-cast Tom Cruise has been since Interview With The Vampire. He ruined that film by being a dark little toad w/a wig. Lestat was supposed to be tall, blond and beautiful. I've seen Rock of Ages several times and Stacy Jaxx while not a spring chicken is not an old short 45 year old. He's still supposed to be a rock star, who has such an ego he's leaving his band in the dust. Leaving the band is a mistake. That's why he ends up failing. He's SUPPOSED to be an attractive rogue, albeit a drunk attractive rogue. The fact that they're considering Russell Brand for Lonnie shows me whoever is casting this thing has no idea what they're doing. If Tom Cruise HAS to be in the film he actually should be playing Lonnie. Russell should be playing Stacy. There is no way on earth I will go see a movie of a show I loved cast this hideously.

Why in the world would Tom Cruise be cast in 'Rock of Ages???" He must be financing it. No other reason to cast this 'has been' in this musical. It's evident he's already had 'work done'...he's gonna need more before making this movie. I cannot think of any good reason to cast that old fart opposite Julianne other than pure ego...of which he has plenty.
Julianne Hough will be great, Taylor Swift may have made a huge mistake. Julianne Hough has all the tools look for her to get a lot of attention. Julianne Hough has two thing that Taylor Swift doesn't have, Julianne Hough can sing and act where Taylor Swift can only sing. If an actor can Sing, Act, and Dance they will have the edge. Julianne Hough has all three. A lot of the greatest stars in Hollywood had to Sing, Act and Dance in order to make a good living. Julianne Hough is going to do very well.

After seeing it on Broadway this sounds like a horrible attempt to bring it to the big screen – can't imagine Tom Cruise in any of the roles and to preserve the good memories of the BW show, think I'll pass on this.

Ugh. Ruined at the start with the casting of Tom Cruise, MISCAST as the bad-boy rocker. Is this a comedy then? It should be quite laughable. A shame because the rest of the cast sounds good. Way to ruin your movie Shankman.
You should look into the plot of the film a little better. Tom will be playing an older washed up rocker that she has a thing with before realizing she's in love with the young rocker protagonist.
Even if Katie and Tom don't work out...she's still set for life in spousal and child support...but with her being an actor this is probably not going to cause a rift...they are pretty private with their life...
Katie will never be able to leave Tom because she knows she would lose her daughter if she did. Look what happened to Nicole and her relationship with her adopted kids with Tom. Seems Tom and his cult control or brainwash the kids, Katie would end up like Nicole, rarely seeing Suri. Katie better hope Tom doesn't want out like he did with Nicole, it would be the same situation.
