10-year-old girl upstages Lady Gaga

The 10-year-old girl whose rendition of Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" made her a YouTube sensation joined her idol onstage Thursday night - and stole the show.

Maria Aragon of Winnipeg, Canada, walked onstage to wild cheers from the concert audience at Toronto's Air Canada Centre. Gaga picked her up in a hug and spun her around in the air.

Maria, wearing shiny black tights, a pink top and a tiny leather jacket, then sat on Gaga's lap on the piano bench and poised her fingers over the keyboard.

"I'm really excited that Maria is here today, because Maria represents what this song is all about," Gaga said, according to CNN affiliate CBC . "It's all about the next generation and the future, and no more divisiveness."

Maria began to play "Born This Way," the Gaga song she sang on the YouTube video that has drawn 17.7 million views in 15 days. Gaga worked the pedals. The crowd went insane.

At the end of the song, the little girl thanked the crowd, Lady Gaga and her family and friends.

"I am a 10-year-old girl from Winnipeg, and I came here to sing to you guys, and I hope you enjoyed it," she said.

Gaga was tearful as Maria left the stage.

"Lady Maria from Winnipeg!" the megastar announced.

Maria later returned to the stage for an impromptu dance during the concert's post-midnight encore, CBC reported.

The whirlwind started on February 17, when Gaga saw the video on YouTube and tweeted to her 8.5 million followers: “Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future.” In the past two weeks, Maria has appeared on "Good Morning America" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and her video was posted on Perezhilton.com.

“I’m getting kind of tired, but this is for people and people’s entertainment,” Maria told the Toronto Star, which reported her school chums have been asking for her autograph.

“I have a signature, actually. I’ve been practicing it for quite a while because I do art, too. I didn’t know that I would have to sign it for other people, like my supporters.”

Friday morning, Gaga tweeted: “Myself +10 year Old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you.”

We are over a decade into the 21st century. Is this as far as the human race has progressed? (well at least as far as one has-been-comic of dubious psychological fitness has progressed) Why does this nobody's opinion matter anyhow? A gay kiss on TV! OMG! It is being shoved down my throat! I am chained to a chair and unable to change the channel. My eyes are propped open with toothpicks and my head is held in a vice so I can't turn away (a la clockwork orange).

I know this is a late comment, but the article is incorrect about CBC being an affiliate of CNN. The CBC is a public broadcaster paid by the Canadian Taxpayer. CNN is neither Canadian or a taxpayer in Canada!

Why, oh, WHY is that child on stage with an adult woman sitting in her UNDERWEAR????? While I agree that she sounded great, the whole thing was disgusting and in poor taste. Sure, she gave a child the chance of a lifetime, and the child shined, however, if this had been an adult MAN and a ten year old BOY.... well, it never would have happened. As a mother (who happens to like Lady Gaga's music) I am appalled and hope that we haven't gotten to the point where civility and decency have been washed from our psyche due to pressure from the "In America we have the right to be Stupid lobby.

I agree with @ A Parent. Does anyone know the story about why she wears underwear on stage? It's because she was at a gig before she got a record deal and the audience wasn't listening. She couldn't get their attention & they were all talking. So she took her clothes off and voila! They payed her attention. Did you get that-not because of her music-because she was naked. She is desperate for fame, desperate for attention and everything she does is because of it. It's not a 'feel comfortable in my own skin thing'. Lots of makeup-wigs-and 'outrageous' costumes like a lamp shade? If she didn't care what people thought, she would have continued to sing with clothes on UNTIL her music was good enough to garner the RIGHT attention. Now, she's preaching to kids? Why, because she's famous and supposedly successful? However, look what she had to do to herself? Born this Way? NOOOO WAY! How does she look in the mirror at night? I mean, I have an excellent sense of humor but I find her so transparent. At least Katy Perry laughs at herself & has fun. This one? Nah. Full of herself.

I personally dont like gaga she isnt much of a lady an has some serious issues. I am a mom an i would never let a 10 nor 17 yr old near that trash. I respect myself enough to go out lookin like a respectable women. Does she NO. I DONT HATE GAGA. i just think she has no talent an her dressing all freaky like is just to get ppl to focus on her look so they wont pay attention to how fake or bad she sings. does she care how we feel bout her more then likely not she wants to be hated. i admit i have some songs of hers as my ring tones. but trust me its just the melody her voice is not to be heard. k

Lady Gaga is exceptionally talented. She has written songs for many artists, as well writing her own music. Her voice is big and beautiful and in every interview I have seen she is so humble and posesses a sweet disposition. What she has done for this wonderfully gifted little girl is amazing and truely genuine.

Look, just because she sings ans cna play a piano-does not make you talented, or your songs good." The truth hurts, her songs have no harmony or discerning melody. They are fluff non-sense songs. If you say she can play piano on acoustic pieces, then great so can alot of people. Fact is , it is not on her albums, there is nothing different or redeeming about her sound. She is not original, so what is the point if churning out sub- par music that is stuck in all the usual trends. She was discovered because of luck, and because music is so pitiful these days that the songs and music dont really matter. Saying rama whatever a whole bunch of times is merely irritating not talent. If you do not understand this go listen to CSNY or Elton John or Exile on Main street by the Stones

Even if you don't believe in the Bible it's completely ridiculous, backwards and against nature for people to be "united" in thinking that it's good to teach our young girls that it's cool to be a word that starts with w and rhymes with door (I put it that way so it gets posted)...but you might realize that if you weren't figuritive eunuchs meaning if you had the brains to think for yourselves and the courage to stand against mass culture. If anyone in Hollywood Miranda Cosgrove's a good role model for young girls.

Why is it that certain people cannot spell or say "ask", and instead say "axe"? It sounds totally dumb. Also susan, bible, devil, gathering souls etc. Thanks for the laugh. Try reading a book a little more relevant to modern society, or even just keep quiet if you only have non-sensical comments to make! A belief system is just that – you have to believe based on zero evidence. Why don't you embrace the wonders of the modern world we all live in, and move on from that 1000 year old gibberish?

I'm not a huge fan of Lady Gaga, but I am a musician who has learned to not refer to music I don't like as bad music. I'm not a huge fan of Elvis, but I recognize the importance of his music on the industry. Lady Gaga has revitalized a portion of the industry that's been sleeping since Madonna (appeared) to go into semi-retirement. Gaga is relevant to her fans, interesting, provocative, and frankly, entertaining. Her music is a little 'packaged' but you can't deny, she has style. Not my cup of tea, but then again, I listen to jazz and progressive rock so I'm a bit of a dinosaur. Different tastes for different people? Works for me.

She (or her marketer) needs to make even more money than they do now because they're brilliant!! She's creepy and ugly yet she's a huge hit!!! That's pretty impressive!! Secondly, people know that the best way to market your product is with little children. You see a little kid, and it's like, aww!! i'll take 2! You don't even know what the product is!!! Sans all the strange outfits and bizarre publicity stunts, I find Gaga's music to be pedestrian. I am not a hater, nor do I have anything against LG. Sure there is talent there, but I just don't see what the big deal is about LG. And by the way: I am not a jealous nobody. I am a very happy (middleclass) husband and father of 2 great kids who loves his life and wouldn't trade with anyone regardless of money or fame.

Were missing the underlying theme here. A 10 year old was copying Lady Gaga. Why is she a role model for anyone? Seriously, between her, Miley Cirus, Brittny Spears, Lindsay Lohan and countless other role models that our young girls look up to, expect lots of inappropriate behavior later in life. Once their teen years hit, they will try even more to follow their idols by preforming like them. Smoking weed and getting drunk, sending nude pictures of themselves to any random Joe, and wanting to ride said Joe's disco stick. These people are not role models and I the parents of this 10 year old girl should be highly ashamed for letting GaGa be one

NOT A FAN OF LADY GAGA...... BUT!!!.... those of you calling her untalented have alot to realize. I mean for her to make that much money she must be doing something. People see something different and either complain or say really messed up things. The "haters" are the ones who are paying her bills even more so than her fans, the more times you mention her name the longer she will stay relevant. I mean who are some of you to judge who she is or not none of you know who she is outside the media. I may not be a huge fan but I give her props for being herself. without lady gaga there would be no 10 year old fan singing with her. remember that.

Lady Gaga actually is actually not my cup of tea. But she has my respect as an actual Musician. There are Musicians that had to work their way to fame and airtime through hard work and creativity. Then there are kids like this girl and Justin B. that imitate other originals. Just like any band that only does cover songs at their gigs. They would not get the same respect as those musicians that strike a chord within their peers with actual original music.

I don't understand all the negativity in these comments. First of all, Lady Gaga is very talented. Look up some of her acoustic performances. If that's not talent, especially when compared to most of today's pop stars like Ke$ha, or Katy Perry, and even Taylor Swift, then tell me, which pop star of today actually HAS talent? Because none of those I listed do. Second, I love how you're just ignoring what she did for Maria, and you're just going on about how much you hate her. She could have just left it at that tweet, no one was forcing her to be this nice. I'm not saying everyone has to like her, but she does deserve some respect, at least for the fact that she actually has talent, and because she's done something so nice for a little 10 year old girl (she's done countless other great things, for her fans, and even for some causes/charities, but tbh it'd take too long to list). Sadly, most of you will still not be able to look past the outfits, so I'm sure I'll get tons of replies talking about how someone like her doesn't deserve your respect and can't be talented and blah blah blah. :/

Yeah and because of yall shes gagging all the way to the bank with fists full of cash.

You guys are just saying the same things that have been said about pretty well every pop star that's come along since Elvis.
It's the flavor-of-the-month, kiddies. Styles change, tastes change...but talent doesn't change. Talent finds a way to stay relevant..talent finds a way to stay fresh. Ask KISS or Elton John...they had gimmicks initially – but they found a way to hang around.. If Ga-Ga is g-good...she's stick around. If not...well, there's always another spectacle in the wings.

Lady Gaga obviously has talent, she sells music and does it well, Dont hate on her for having money in these tight times, vent it somewhere ele. Now normally an artist pays homage to artists of the past for their success, its not too often one looks ahead to the future, for that I tip my hat to Lady Gaga, and to Maria Aragon, she was just amazing, and I do agree, she could very well be a musician in the future. Now to you trolls, loose your venom elsewhere, cause it really isnt productive or cute.

You guys cant read an article and simply be inspired by a young girl living the high life because of something as simple as posting a video of herself performing. You want to make this about her looks? I'm 24 years old and my time in junior high Justin Timberlake was the popular guy to hate.. now it's Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga. I am so shocked. Lady GaGa is talented but if my baby sitter showed up in her underwear with freaky makeup and, I don't know.... is that blood smeared on her midsection, and said, "Oh, I'm just going to sit your little girl on my lap and sing with her...." I'd be calling 911 in a big hurry. It is amazing that she has so little respect for herself as 1) a human being and 2) a woman that she presents herself this way. She further disrespects each of us and especially that 10 year old girl for not putting on some clothes and taking herself seriously as an artist and let her music stand up on its own. As a society, we have become so quick to buy into the hype and few stop to think what the consequences are. I am not a GaGa hater I am just amazed at what we have come to accept as "okay".

Parent, I suggest you speak for yourself because I do not feel that Lady Gaga's choice of fashion is a reflection of me or any other female human on earth particularly as I've taught my children that we shouldn't judge people based on how they look. Gaga encourages others to be confident in their own skin, and to respect and love others. She's not seen with a different paramour every other day, she hasn't been photographed doing drugs, and she hasn't been arrested. Off the top of my head, I can think of several other young ladies who are/were specifically marketed to pre-teens and tweens like Maria and are guilty of offences far worse than wearing wacky/tacky fashions. Kudos to Gaga for making little Maria's decade!

AMEN! I think that Lady GaGa (as a personality and a brand) is a brilliant marketing idea. I think the artist herself is smart enough to realize what sells and she has the talent to pull it off. I mean really. If she didn't have any talent then she'd just look like any other crazy loon – but she does it with such style.

I also agree that she is looking to try and show people that we're all the same on some level. We all eat, breathe, love, hurt, laugh... even if we don't LOOK the same... could you imagine how boring and "flat" the world would be without those little differences? Embrace diversity and a thirst for knowledge of a different culture so we're educated and not intimidated!

I think that is a great role model for young people – male or female!

@ Raging – There are just as many bad-spelling-bad-grammar non-supporters on this board as there are bad-spelling-bad-grammar supporters. Let's just face facts. The internet has revealed the real ignorance of society in our generation.

Gaga is quite talented. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I find it amusing that commenters with no talent or popularity at all get so jealous. She's an entertainer folks. If you don't like her style then read about and comment on someone you care about.

Winnipeg trivia – Winnie the pooh was named after a bear in Winnipeg.

Actually, Winnie-the-Pooh was named after a black bear that the creator's son saw at the London Zoo (and subsequently named his own teddy bear after). The bear at the London Zoo was donated by Canadian Lieutenant Harry Colebourn during WWI. Lieutenant Colebourn purchased the bear in Ontario, while en route to England, and named the bear after his hometown – Winnipeg.

To be even more precise – Winnipeg was Lieutenant Colebourn's adopted hometown, he was actually born in England.

To paraphrase the leader of the group, "Smashing Pumpkins" the music industry was DESTROYED when they began catering to teen and pre-teen girls who have absolutely NO idea what good music is.

Richard, and apparently Billy Corgan, don't know very much about the history of pop/rock music. Screaming teen girls were the ones buying 45's of Ricky Nelson and Frankie Avalon(and Elvis, then the Beatles) long before most of us were born. And the record companies sell to whoever is buying, especially now... There is plenty of excellent music out there that isnt featured in CNN entertainment blogs. Go listen to some...

I like Gaga and her music. She is the current version of Madonna with the fun whacky outfits and chenningans.. It seems every generation in pop culture has one. In my own 60's generation it was Cher Bono.

The music industry has been marketing to young girls since the young Frank Sinatra days (probably before, but I know all of the screaming crowds of teeny boppers and swooning young girls really took off in the 1940s. Who do you think made Elvis and the Beatles the megastars they became? How about MJ? Sorry, I appreciate the Smashing Pumpkins musical talent, but they're an alternative band that by definition is not a good fit for sustained top ten billboard charts. Pop music is fueled and sustained by the its base - millions of young girls. Nothing new here.

Gaga makes the time and effort to encourage a young girl...and all you get on this forum is small minded criticism. ...I am thinkin most of these comments are comin from fat @ss beatches eating twinkies sitting in thier dirty underwear in front of their financed note book in thier low end trailer trash heavily mortgaged mobile home while thier idiot husbands are out listening to Toby Keith fart his way through some red neck ballad about drinking beer in thier favorite truck stop.
