Natalee Holloway story inspires Lifetime sequel, reality series

Natalee Holloway has been missing since 2005, but the fascination with her disappearance remains stronger than ever.

In fact, Lifetime is developing a sequel to its top-rated 2009 telefilm about Holloway, as well as a reality series starring her mom, reports Deadline.com.

"Justice for Natalee Holloway" takes place several years after the first TV movie and will follow Beth Holloway (Tracy Pollan) on her search to discover the fate of her teenage daughter, who disappeared on a senior class trip to Aruba.

Beth and her attorney team up with the FBI to build a case against suspected killer Joran van der Sloot (Stephen Amell), who has demanded $250,000 to reveal where Natalee's remains are located. But on the fifth anniversary of Natalee's disappearance, he is arrested in Peru for the murder of another young woman.

Meanwhile, Deadline reports, the 10-part reality series "Vanished With Beth Holloway" will have Beth interviewing families who have been victimized by unspeakable crimes and shedding light onto their real-life mysteries.

I believe the parents would much rather have the child back safely at home than a television program. I also do not think this involves any racial issues. However, I do believe that this story (and many others just like it) get the media attention because of the financial and/or political influences that they can muster. I have seen several of these programs and not one of them reveals the trials and tribulations that a family without thousands of dollars to offer as a reward, or spend running around the world in the same desperate search for their missing child. Most of the blame is on the heads of the media. Instead of reporting the news in an unbiased manner, they are looking to increase bottom line.

I empathize with this woman. She lost her child...how does someone ever get over that??? However, she needs to get a life and get off TV. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

What I want to know is why everyone is so sure Natalee was murdered? There is no evidence besides some coerced statements that indicates that. She could have as easily gone into the ocean for a swim and drowned. Maybe her parents just need to find someone to blame. But one thing is sure, at some point they are going to have to let Natalee go. She has been missing for over five years and there is no doubt she is dead. It's sad but she is only one of thousands of children who disappear every year.

I hope that some day Beth Halloway will know exactly what happen to her daughter . There is no greater loss than
that of a child . Yes while I agree you should NEVER EVER leave with someone you dont know or just met . You should
always go in groups and if one of you leaves you ALL leave !!!!
When this first happen I immediately thought that it was some of her friends who may have done away with her
because she apparently was getting all of the attention that night , I still say her friends know more than what
they told the police or her mother .
I hope that Joran tells Beth soon what really happen , no cameras no anything . Because the worst thing
he can do right now is NOT tell her where she is . He is enough trouble already for supposedly killing another young
woman in much the same way he killed Natalie . Yes I believe she is gone and has been for years but where
is her body? Did he actually dump her in the ocean ? If so we may never have her body back but what ever
happens I hope in the end some good comes from this !!!

I still do not understand why we have to be bothered with this crap....No one in 5 years has asked, why did this girl leave her class of 167 people and go off with this guy that she did not know? She was in another country where she did not know anyone, and she left her classmates, friends, and chaperones to go off and do whatever with some guy that she did not know.....Hmmmm

Somebody forcing you to watch?? Lots of people asked why and how she left with them and the answer is she was coerced by a sociopath. A sociopath who said he would take her back to her hotel. A sociopath who said he was a tourist too staying at the same hotel. Only the morons are still trying to blame the victim. Does it make people like you feel all warm and fuzzy inside to attack victims? Maybe your one of the ones sending Joran love letters and gifts in prison.

Several tough questions remain that need to be asked. They are:

    1. Where were the chaprones?
    2. Where were her friends? Why did they let her go off either by herself or with this creep?
    3. Why did her Mom let her go on this trip? I know she was going to college in the Fall but she and al ot of other kids her age just don't have the life skills to handle a trip like this.

They're not tough questions they're just diversions. None of those questions matter in the end because everyone already knows how it happened that Natalee became separated from the group that night and everyone already knows where the chaperons were. Blaming the mother for letting her go is rediculous and just blaming the victim.

The race issue gets brought up a lot, that the news is following yet another "pretty white girl gone missing" story, but it's not necessarily so. White people make up 80% of the population, so other things being equal that means statistically you would expect to see 5 stories about white girls for every 1 story about non-white girls. Whatever the real racial bias that frequency will create that impression.

  42. Come on

This is about race, but not because it's racist. It's about race because tv ratings are involved. Do you ever see brunettes missing? Red heads? Black, hispanic, Indian/Middle East, etc.... Blonde hair blue eyed (ok...maybe the occasional green eyed) bring in ratings. But the ratings are the only thing that matters to News outlets any more. It's not about what's in the News; it's about what's in the News that will get more people to watch.

Ok...to all the people that say racism is dead, please come out of the box you live in. I am a white male and I'm married to an African American with two kids. My oldest son looks like he is 100% black and my daughter is light skinned. I see some form of racism, small or large, against my family at least 2-3 times a week. Most of the time little things but it's still there. One time we had a server at a restruant refuse to serve us because "Blacks have no business being with Whites" said our white server. The same server I requested because she gave me and my white friends great service the week before. I have 1,000's of stories. We are getting better as a country but we still have a ways to go. But it also goes the other way. My son has kids who pick on him for having "a white daddy" and for being an Uncle Tom (at age 11) or being a "house N****r" for living with his father. Funny thing is my wife did a DNA test to prove to HER (Black) family that he was my son. So we have issues on both sides.

  45. Shocked

Can I just say WOW first of all! Reading posts like some of the ones here just make you realize how many naive and selfish people are in this world and I do not mean Beth Holloway! First, if you are playing the race card then you are the one who has race issues. Secondly, if you think in any way, shape, or form that this happened BECAUSE of what Natalee did or didn't do while she was on her HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR TRIP then you are in denial. No one is perfect and everyone does things that they may regret in life (partying all night, drinking a little too much, etc) but really if you were killed while doing any of these things, would you not want your family searching out the same justice as Beth Holloway is?!?! Nevermind that she is a child and no one deserves to have to deal with their child's death. I am seriously beside myself right now reading these comments and wondering how while I understand everyone has the right to their opinion, more people don't step back and say "what if that were my family?" but instead you have such a "PERFECT" life and have never done anything wrong that you think you have the right to judge someone else. REALLY?!?! I think it is time for some people to get a reality check themselves.

Going waaay back to TJ, I'm sorry I have to agree with him. There are so many African-American young people who are missing and their stories are never told. Why is it that most Caucasian people get all of the media attention? I don't believe its because the missing's parents choose not to do anything about it, I believe it's due to the society in which we live in. Look at any forms of media, whether it is TV, magazines, etc., Caucasians receive the most attention because the control those avenues.

Have you all ever stopped to consider those possibilities? I will say right now if that was my daughter, I would be in the media every second of everyday. I would not let it go until I knew where and what happened to my daughter. Look at what John Walsh did when his son was kidnapped and killed, he started a show to help others, what is the difference? Beth is trying to help other families as well, but yet you condemn her for it. Seriously people stop and think before you assume that she is making a profit here. I applaud her for keeping this in the media, and keeping her daughters story alive.

Hey people! This was no innocent little girl like the press (nancy grace et al) make her out to be. She was an airheaded high school cheerleader! Think about it, cheerleaders aren't exactly known to be the greatest minds of our day. She was simply one of the dumbed down masses who seem to believe that just because they are American, they can do and say anything they want anywhere in the world, and if they get into trouble the Navy Seals will be there to come to the rescue.
Her mother just compounds the problem by trying to make her daughter look like an innocent Disney character.

i cant believe some of the things i've read on here. if my son/daughter went missing and i had the opportunity to let the world know through a movie, i would do so. im not beth, but im pretty sure she's not thinking about the money or fame. she misses her daughter and wants the would to know her story. i found everything that happened interesting. a few tears even came to my eyes. this is REAL! not just some old made up story! it even got some teens to think. im only 16 and the movie changed my mind about some things. i think verything that beth is doing is GREAT! she's hurt ! i mean anyone who truely loved their child would be. i have a friend who just got shot the last week and no one knows how it happened. he didnt really have a "mother figure". and of course she's hurt but i didnt really see any compassion in her about the situation. some people would die for a mother like beth. someone who actually cares. come on people! get it together!

She refuses to just sit back and wait for something to be done. If it was my child I would prob do the same thing. As for the reality show why would her daughter be hurt? She is trying to help other families find there missing children. Children that some people may have forgotten about because it wasn't on the news that much. Unlike Natalies mom she isn't going to let anybody forget about her lost daughter.

If Natalie Holloway was kidnapped and is under the control of a white slavery ring, which is still possible, or being held in some other kind of long term hostage situation, she is going to be incredibly hurt should she ever see this television show in which her mother is participating.

I have to tell you that once I dated a guy briefly who was lying about being in a relationship with another woman. We were driving at night in the Colorado countryside. I confronted him and he slammed on the brakes, and dumped me out in the middle of the night on a desolate country road. He left me there, similar to what Jorgen did to Natalie, I walked in pitch darkness, stumbling my way along trying to figure out the right direction to get home. I waved a truck (driver) down that came by (eventually (which is dangerous for a woman to do, in and of itself). He gave me a ride into town, safely but, had he been a rapist or murderer, he could have gotten away with my death, and the authorities could have pinned it on my date. No one would have been witness to the truck driver inserting himself into the equation. The last person known to have seen me would have been my date. That is why it is important that logic and factual basis, and reasonable doubt be the mainstay of an investigation and subsequent trial. It is reasonable to doubt Jorgen's guilt in her death because, he left her there and someone else could have inserted themselves into the equation without being seen, someone who had some criminal use for her.

So, Natalie could still be alive. She was drunk, passed out, perhaps, and could have woken up somewhere else in someone else's custody. Just because Jorgen killed someone else later on still doesn't prove he killed Natalie. I do think the media and the world hounding him so intensely at such a young age, his father's death, his core selfishness and possible abusive personality (like my former date), all led to anger ready to explode which then led to his attack on the other woman at a later date. Just because you are a major jerk, however, doesn't prove you killed someone (and I am referring to Natalie Holloway).

Anyway, I am getting caught up in proving other points brought up by a similar experience with unconscionable behavior on the part of a man toward a woman, such as Jorgen's. What really struck me about this television show is how hurt I would be if I were Natalie, and i found my way back to find out that all my "loved ones" were having a great time profiting from my ordeal. I could just picture it, mouth hanging open, saying, "What??!!!"

Someone need to stop telling these young people they're grown and know what life about and what to do. Natalee left her hotel room without informing anyone to meet that idiot. The black teen here in Baltimore went to her half sister house whom she didn't really know. I'm almost 60 and still leery of certain people and situation. Young people don't listen to their gut instincts. I blames Natalee for her outcome, she behaves as she was home, instead of in a foreign place. No one that grown till they don't need to ask for advice.

This family lost a young girl because of some monster. Her death is not her mother's fault for letting her daughter go on a trip with friends. It is Joran's fault and no one else's. And perhaps her mother feels that she can really help another family. I am not saying she is perfect, but cut this family some slack. Are you serious? Do you know how much money this poor woman has spent traveling back and forth to Aruba to try and figure out what happened to her daughter. I applaud her for keeping this case in the spotlight so that her testimate may be able to prevent the sensless loss of another child. It is obvious you are not a parent, ninamencha, or you would understand why this mother wants to know what happened to her only child, so that she may be able to give her a proper burial in her hometown, where she belongs. NOT IN THE OCEAN, as another idiot posted above. It is obvious that Joran Van der sloot is responsible for her disappearance, since he is now a convicted murderer of another young woman and is serving time in Peru. There is also a tape that was released by an alleged "friend" of Joran's in which he admits how he disposed of her body. The Aruban government/police force dropped the ball in this situation and I pray Natalie's mother and father get the answers they deserve. If this reality show will help the family continue this investigation financially, who are you to judge them? Get real!!!

Mr. Happy, these types of trips are not usually school related or approved other than it being a bunch of kids who are graduating together going on a trip. My HS discouraged us from going on ours. A bunch of kids went to Cancun my Senior year. Thankfully they all returned but Jesus does have a point. It is very unfortunate that she disappeared but as a mother (of a girl) I would never let her or my son go on a trip like this unless I was one of the parents going along to chaperone. Children and yes, a HS Senior is still a child, should have been watched and a chaperone on this trip should have noticed her leaving without the group and stopped her.

It's 2011 and we are still throwing out the "race card". Yawn, that's so 1990. The family of the victim has to keep the story in the news by pushing out media press releases. It's up to the family to keep the story fresh and on people's minds.

Actually...(to those that think TJ is playing the race card)...I have friends that worked for a few media outlets in NY, NJ and in Tampa. I have asked them about the way certain news stations choose "missing persons" stories to highlight. They were a little shy about telling me the answer but I reassured them that I'm simply just curious. They did mention that the way the person is abducted has something to do with it but that usually young white females (infant to adult) are a better draw in ratings. All stories of abduction/missing persons are tragic, but ultimately....let's be real...major news outlets like CNN, MSNBC..e.tc. etc....are more concerned with ratings than anything else. It's the bottom line. Granted...I'm not saying it's okay...but from what I've been told...it's a reality. As a person of African-American heritage....I think that's pretty sad, but when you look at the mentality of our world today....companies are all about the dollar (or whatever currency they worship) a painful reality for those with missing family members of any race...but a reality nevertheless.

there's a young mom (white) missing from Charl. WV for at least 5 years, no press on her either. Another one in Ironton OH, pregnant, white, no press, her remains were found, I could go on and on

With all due respect you and Ms. Barnes, There are no international elements of intrigue involved in Ms. Barnes case. The Holloway case involved several international governments, a lying trust fund baby, an All American Girl, It was a lurid crime novel come to life and still is. Not every crime story is a racial slight to others Sadly, there is too much crime to cover equally.

Instead of spending your time writing a comment playing the race card, why don't you call your tv stations, mayors office, governor, FBI, newspaper, CNN, and every other place you can like Natalie's mother!
If you think more black kids disappear without news coverage than white kids, then you are just writing some garbage to stir the racism pot, and that is something that is so stupid these days it makes no sense and you should grow up and spend the time looking for the kid, get off the couch already!!

The family should contact Beth Holliday and ask her to work with them to find their daughter

I agree with you TJ. I live in VA. Just recently the week of Valentine's Day there was a shooting at a Chick Fil A here in a suburb of DC. A man shot a woman in the drive thru. He turned himself in but it was domestic case. Both the victim and the murderer are/were African American. I would think that this story would have made national headlines alas it did not. It was horrendous to me. He killed the mother of his 3 daughters because she had the gall to leave him after years of abuse. I just don't understand this!
