'Idol's' Archuleta gets dropped from labelPoor Archie. Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta has been dropped by his label, Jive Records, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the singer's 2008 self-titled debut album sold nearly a million copies and was certified platinum, Archuleta's latest album, 2010's "The Other Side of Down," sold only 67,000 copies as of February 18, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Archuleta first achieved fame via "American Idol"; the show's finale between Archuleta and winner David Cook drew more than 97 million votes. It was a record...until the next year's showdown between Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, which drew 100 million. Archuleta tweeted to his fans that he was in good spirits. "Thanks for the support you continue to show! Means a lot. Just wanted to check in [and] let you know things are going where I feel they should," he tweeted. |

DavidArchie Sorry for the bad quality, but got the video blog up! Hope it helps! --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0UY9H3vMTM
I think David leaving Jive can only be a good thing - there were problems with the 2nd studio album out of the gate. (Love the album itself, btw.) I think David will land on his feet. For one thing, in a world where so many celebrities are screwed up, David keeps a positive outlook. Don't know how he does that but he would've held my interest over the past three years even if he didn't have that gorgeous voice.
I am a fan of Adam Lambert's. Was never an Archie fan BUT...I do feel that Jive (a division of RCA/Sony) is a total train wreck. Adam was never signed to Jive, but with the more major label, RCA/ Sony. But their PR peeps aren't on the ball either. They stink at their job and if it weren't for such a fervent, active, passionate fan base, Adam wouldn't be as successful as he is.
David A. should get a great agent, a new (maybe Indie) label and perhaps an image makeover. I wish him much luck and success going forward.Jive is not the be-all and end-all David. You can persevere. And for your fans, you should. Thank you. 😀

It may be the best thing for his career.
The problem is Jive.
Ciara (who is also with Jive) said a few days ago, “I spent tens of thousands of my own money only to hear the radio PDs tell me my label didn’t want the song played”.
And this is exactly what Archuleta fans were told by the PDs immediately post-”Crush” and for two years. Fans were told “Oh, we can’t play that” by the radio stations, no matter how large the number of requests, for any other single after “Crush”.
Admittedly, not every subsequent single was radio friendly, but some absolutely were.
While a big hit in numerous places overseas where Archuleta is a big star and played along side the best known American acts, and despite fervent and pro-active fan support for him here, Archie couldn’t get airplay in America because his label didn’t want it.
If he could be a hit in other countries with multiple top singles (and he was) the same could occur in the States. But the label had other ideas.
Did they sign Archie in May 2008 the night of the "American Idol" finals to make him a star, or keep him controlled in favor of Cook or someone or something else? Who's to say as to the reasoning.
But Ciara has had a similar experience with Jive.
Are the rumors true that Jive's really melting down from the inside? One can only wonder.
Probably a blessing in disguise. Now he can enjoy his career without having idol comitments getting in the way.
Ricky Martin Part Deux!
I just farted. Shooooo : )
semi-clingy V-Neck=GAY
Good....it's about time they start getting rid of these no-talent pukes. YUCK!
The media loves to play with words as long as it gets people's attention. It get more hit to say 'dropped' by Jive than to say the truth which is that David fulfilled his 3 record contract with Jive and it was time to go. They call themselves a label but they don't promote their clients. Nobody is safe at Jive. How is a record supposed to sell without promo? David's current cd, "The Other Side of Down" is a gem, a collection of upbeat positive songs, most written by David. He is a giant talent with a once in a lifetime voice.
Do you people have proofreaders or factcheckers on your staff?
1. He didn't sell "nearly a million copies" of his debut album.
2. It wasn't certified platinum.
3. By definition, you can't be certified platinum with "nearly" a million sold.
That's right. David Archuleta has a certified platinum single and a certified gold album.
Yeah that's a mixup I thikmk started by the first article on another site – he has sold over a million albums but not of one album. Over 3/4 million of the first. And 246,000 of the Christmas album (which is gorgeous).
Thank you that posted stating the facts of David's situation with Jive. There used to be this profession called journalism where the details where investigated and reported. Now whatever trash gets picked up they all spew as fact.
David has the voice of a lifetime and needed to get out. He will not be beiberized. He is the real deal, a true and genuine artist.
David was not dropped. He did three albums with jive and was released. He sold a lot of albums. Get your facts straight. Jive is not doing well and has all kinds on problems. I am sure he will sign with another label if he wants to .What is the big deal? His contract was over and he left that label. Smart move to part ways with that label. Ciara has all kinds of problems with jive too right now as have had many other artists.
I witnessed along with millions of other viewers the talent that this young man has. He is young and has a great future ahead of him. When one stumbles they pick themselves up and move forward. There are always other record labels out there ready to sign someone on. Go get em David. Best of Luck.
My first record deal was with JIVE RECORDS. I left them.
Best them that i ever did,,,, That label is a mess. When they love you, its great...
When they don't, Youre invisible.
Its the best thing that could happen to his career. Trust.
Now he can go sign to someone that will really take care of his career.....ALL OF IT, not just the hot beginning.
Yes Jive records is a MESS right now. Its has record execs coming and going left and right. David has great talent and I'm sure another label which actually has a "clue" about good music will pick him up.
David was "released" not dropped (a nasty distortion) most likely by his request from JIVE records. VJ (above) has detailed internal problems at JIVE, and I am sure David felt it was best to secure his release while he could. He has satisfied his three year contract with JIVE, and I do not think his fans ever believed he would want to stay with them for the long haul. No one who admires David is surprised by this announcement and have long waited for this to happen. BRAVO David. Your fans are with you and applaud your decision. Now onto the next phase of your remarkable adventure.
very well put...
Personally I think he needs to act differently and switch up his music. Maybe he'll gain some older girl and guy fans. This would improve album sales. Don't get me wrong I'm a guy and a big fan but I wouldn't go around telling people that i am and I wouldn't be blasting his music in the car.
David has the talent. He hasn't been promoted very well. Hopefully he will get picked up by a label that will do him justice.
I always feel for the runner-up on Idol. They always get a bad rap. He is very talented and I agree with others here that another label will gladly pick him up. We will probably be commenting on that next week!
Well said VJ.....
OK, first of all, David's fans have figured out that there have been at least 500K illegal downloads of his new album. Teens don't believe in buying music anymore. Also, there is alot of internal turmoil at JIVE right now. At the time that "The Other Side of Down" was released, the CEO of JIVE was leaving, David didn't have management, and his A&R had announced he was leaving. The CD is actually really, REALLY good. But JIVE didn't lift a finger to promote it or push the singles to radio. Nothing. Nada. David had like 2 small TV appearances, and that was it. The first single, "Something 'Bout Love" is very good, too. But never played on the radio. People can't buy music that they've never heard. The fact that the CD didn't sell is all on them.
Besides, JIVE wanted David to become someone that he's not, and to sing songs that don't reflect who he is as an artist. He's not the type of person to ever sell out, and I'm proud of that. I can imagine he probably hated it there. He's got so much talent and enthusiasm, it's crazy. I have no doubt he'll be snapped by a label. Hopefully one that's competent, this time.
I really don't think this has anything to do with teens downloading his music illegally... with that analogy, how would you explain Justin Bieber's sales?
Okay you may have disproven that point but what about the fact that Archuleta didn't get air time? Bieber is one of the only things on the mainstream radio these days... as if they're shoving it down our throats... you can't disprove that part of VJ's argument.
I am sure his Dad loves that ! hahaha
From what I remember, his Dad was a control freak and had to be booted from rehersals on Idol !
He's annoying. I was glad when he lost the Idol final. I'm glad now that Jive has dropped him.
If u can't say anything positive, why say anything at all!! He is a great guy with an amazing voice and a heart of gold!!
I am wilth Chelsea, this guy makes me want to puke. The only reason he sold any records is because of the little girls and gay men that followed him on Idol. Good Bye and Good Riddance!
I AGREE JIVE SCREWED UP ALOT 4 HIM, HE NEVER GOT ANY ADVERTISEMENT OR PUBLICITY AT ALL, IT WAS A JOKE, HE DESERVES AND WILL GET A BETTER DEAL SOMEWHERE ELSE!
The wrath of his stage dad is what I fear most for this kid! Goes to show how fickle the industry is.
Jeff Archuleta hasn't been involved in David's management for a long time–years.
The kid's hot and can sing. I'm sure he'll get picked up.
Hope so. I really like his new album, The Other Side of Down.
