Jesse Metcalfe in talks to join 'Dallas' remake

Another familiar face could be making his way to Southfork.

As Marquee previously reported, Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy will be reprising their roles as J.R., Sue Ellen and Bobby Ewing in TNT's upcoming "Dallas" reboot.

Now, reports that former "Desperate Housewives" star Jesse Metcalfe is close to joining the cast. Metcalfe, who most recently starred in the NBC series "Chase," is being eyed for the part of Christopher Ewing, the adopted son of Bobby and Pam.

Newcomer Alex Russell is also said to be a candidate for the role.

The original "Dallas" ran from 1978 to 1991 and centered on the wealthy Ewing clan, which included dastardly J.R., his long-suffering wife Sue Ellen and J.R.'s nice-guy brother Bobby.

The new "Dallas" will find J.R. and Sue Ellen's son John Ross (Metcalfe's fellow "Desperate Housewives" star Josh Henderson) battling Christopher for the family dynasty and the affections of the ranch cook's daughter Elena (Jordana Brewster).

Alex Russell would be a great fit for the show. He was very impressive in Chronicle.

Jesse Metcalfe is a TERRIBLE FIT for Dallas. No Ewing would be caught dead with all of those nasty tattoos.

I am happy that the project is finally getting greenlit and that it’s bringing back many of the originals to reprise their roles. Metcalfe should be an excellent choice for Christopher (and coincidently was actually my first choice for the casting, as well!).

It’s actually a misconception that the show is a remake; that would imply that it’s a re-do or do-over of some kind… which it’s not. More accurately it’s a relaunch and/or continuation of the original series, similar in concept to what was done with the most recent “90210″ and “Melrose Place” shows (although more people will probably care more about the “Dallas” show than those others… and hopefully it will be done much better than those as well ; p ).

I’ve been working with Bryan J. Kinnaird for the last year or so in developing a web comic for the Ultimate Dallas website [Google-search it] and hoping to usher in just this kind of re-launch.

Although it will have roots in an older idea/property, there is opportunity for the new series to blaze its own path a give a new generation of Ewings to the world to enjoy…

    : )

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this idea. Nothing has come close to the original of this series. Can't wait to see JR and his 10-gallon hat ride again! Although, I will miss that large handset "carphone" in the caddy.

Lovely another remake. I didn't think that Larry Hagman was still alive. Jeeze he must be really up there in age.

Ok – I hope they tie in Gary & Val's kids somehow into the new reboot "DALLAS" as that would be need to somehow 'maybe' down the road, spin off a reboot of "KNOTS LANDING'!
Metcaffe should be fine playing the part – BEST to all the cast & crew!! Wish I was on the show too – classic!!!!

NO NO NO. He's all wrong for the part. Much better to go with an unknown up and coming person.

btw, Ray's last name is spelled Krebbs.
