Best laid plans on 'Modern Family'Last year's Valentine's Day episode was an instant classic, so of course, "Modern Family" had to do a sequel, with the return of Phil and Claire's characters Clive Bixby and Giuliana once again meeting up at the hotel. Without a doubt, this week's MVP was Ty Burrell portraying Phil Dunphy as Clive ("I don't like to talk about money. But I have exactly ten million dollars"), if only for the scene where "Clive" is waiting for "Giuliana" on a bed naked with rose petals... in the wrong hotel room. And he made that realization the moment an old lady showed up... but of course. Others' Valentine's Day plans didn't do quite as scheduled - like Jay's elaborate idea to have Gloria get upset and leave a restaurant only to find a romantic dinner waiting at home. As he explained it, "Bam! She looks like a big idiot! And isn't that what Valentine's Day is all about?"
Turns out that Gloria really wanted to stay at the restaurant, and the pair got into a big fight ("I am the second wife Jay, why do you treat me like I'm the first?"), when Jay arrived to see the romantic dinner – not in the house, but in the garage. Gloria put one over on the "big idiot," saying this proved two things: "You are romantic, and I'm smarter than you. And I bought you a motorcycle." Congratulations to Gloria for "winning" Valentine's Day. Meanwhile, Manny planned to make some progress in wooing Haley by encouraging her to dump her boyfriend (that would be the one after Dylan... after all, she hasn't been single since she was nine). Manny explained he was playing the "long game" here: "She's had the romantic, she's had the intellectual, how about all that in one fine little brown package?" To Manny's disappointment (and viewers' delight), Dylan decided to have his band perform for her on their front lawn. That's right, Dylan's back. Finally, Cam and Mitchell were convinced that Mitchell's assistant had a crush on him... instead, the crush might have actually been on Cam. As Cam was leaving Mitchell's office for the parking lot, the assistant asked, "Did I validate you?" "Oh, yes," Cam replied. Ultimately, though, this was another rare sub-par storyline for this couple that didn't quite pay off as well as it could have. Though, both are still convinced that the assistant wants them. LOVE LOVE Jay & Gloria! the relationship is so believable and both Ed and Sofia just knock it out of the park every time!
You're for sure right about Ty Burrell stealing this episode. His awkward role playing humor was the highlight of the episode, although the Gloria/Jay chemistry is some of the best I've ever seen.

Definately one of my top 5 Episodes of Modern Family
I think this showis this Centurie's Cosby Show. Where as the Cosby show brought us that Black people can be successful and stay a family. Modern Family is exactly a Modern Family with Milf'y Mom's, Stepmom's and Gay couples.
This show is great! I love it! This episode made laugh like always!
Ty really deserves to win an award his role as Phil. He has to be the funniest wanna-be-cool-dad ever!! Last night was an EPIC WIN...HILARIOUS!
Love this show! Phil won this week. Cam and Mitchell not so much. I love Manny. He is so cuuute.
Another fine episode. Thanks for the laughs!
