Jon Cryer: I check TMZ for Charlie Sheen updates

With an almost 30-year career in show business, you'd think Jon Cryer has heard it all. But when it comes to those news stories about his troubled "Two and a Half Men" co-star Charlie Sheen, even Cryer sometimes can't believe his ears.

"The stuff you hear is just unbelievable," he told talk-show host Conan O'Brien Wednesday. "I'm checking TMZ - as I do every day to see if I have to go to work at all - and there is a story: they found Charlie's car... at the bottom of a cliff. So you're thinking, 'Wow, sure hope Charlie's OK.'"

Cryer, 45, added that it can make for some awkward encounters on set.

"He comes into work and it's like, 'Hey, Charlie. How's it going, man?' And you're checking for scratches — because my mind had come up with this whole thing that he'd crashed the car and then clawed his way back up the cliff. So I said, 'How're you doing, man?' and he said, 'I'm doing OK, except that somebody stole my car and ran it off a cliff last night.'"

While Sheen's explanation may have sounded outlandish, it actually turned out to be true.

"Normally you would not believe that from somebody. But from Charlie Sheen, you believe that," says Cryer. "Because that happened to him. Twice."

These two actors work so well together even though they are total opposites. I think thats what makes it so hilarious. I'm sure what Jon said was just in jest and I'm sure Charlie took no offense to it. Years ago Jon was in part of the movie Hot Shots! with Charlie. You can tell there is mutual respect for one another.

The "funniest show ever"? Yeah, maybe if you're 60 or older. Personally, I think the show stinks and I don't get why it's so popular.

I just pray Sheen gets it together before it's too late. There's not enough laughter in the world as it is, and I sure would miss him.

Twice his vehicles were stolen from his gated, guarded home. Twice they were driven off a cliff. No surveillance images, no witnesses.

"Mr. Bill also saw fit to put Mark Cuban and Charlie Sheen on notice, so to speak. Sounding not altogether unlike a mafia don threatening to issue a hit, O’Reilly states “this is a warning to Mark Cuban, who is distributing that film in a few weeks. This is a warning to you Bud, okay, you pull that movie or I’m gonna be your worst nightmare, because this is gonna lead to death.” “We’re looking out for you, Charlie Sheen. Don’t do this. You’re not going to come back from it, if you do…”

Why is it that behavior considered normal 30 years ago (partying on the weekends, showing up for work on Monday) now is called "troubled?" If Charlie wants to have fun, who cares? He shows up for work and does a dang good job. Hilarious show.

Im truly envious of this guy. The amount of strange gets thrown at him must be astounding. The only downside seems to be his psycho ex-wives. That Denise Richards for example ... hated her since I saw Starship Troopers.

I agree with everyone saying its the funniest show ever. You find yourself watching reruns all the time. Charlie almost left this year because he was getting bored with it. Lets hope it continues for a few more years. All the main characters on the show are great.

It's amazing. Charlie Sheen makes a good living portraying himself. You could take away the script and make it a reality show.

    WARNING!

Do not attempt to replicate what you saw in tonight's episode of Two and a Half Men. Despite the seeming lack of serious consequences and regardless of the hilarity that ensued, this is extremely dangerous behavior and could result in injury or death. Please keep in mind that we employ a highly-paid Hollywood professional who has years of experience with putting his life at risk. And sadly no, I'm not talking about our stunt man.

Two and a Half Men has got to be the funniest show on television. Sometimes I laugh so hard that it makes me sick. Whatever is going on in Charlie Sheen's life off the set, I hope he gets it together, because I would truly miss that show if they yanked it.

Come on people, lighten up. Cryer is just making a joke at Sheen's expense. And like most jokes, it seems to be rooted in truth.

Now whether Sheen can actually take a joke, well...........

The joke was not at Charlie Sheen's expense. If you listened to what he said, and not what you thought he meant to say, you would have understood that he was cleverly and sarcastically dissing TMZ for reporting minimally truthful/mostly crap-full storites about Charlie Sheen on a daily basis. Co-workers are almost never really friends. Although, in the entertainment industry most of them will at least pretend to be friends, or at least civil, except for Debra Winger who made it public that she hated Richard Gere's guts when they shot "Officer and a Gentleman" (and she never worked a whole lot after that.) John Cryer has never been one of my favorite actors. But, I do have a new-found respect for him not just because he's not slamming Charlie Sheen, but also because he did such a good job making TMZ the BUTT of his joke.

This is the problem with the "written" word vs. the "spoken" word. If you heard Cryer say this you'd KNOW what his intent was. We can all learn a lesson from this and maybe think carefully about what we "write"

Don't criticize Jon Cryer for not having Charlie Sheen's back. I don't think Sheen is thinking about his show's castmates and crew members economic welfare when he is jeapordizing himself in who knows how many ways through acts of recklessness and debauchery.

Actually, Charlie makes almost $2 mil per EPISODE for Two and a Half Men. To put that in perspective...Piers Morgan (America's Got Talent) make $2 million per YEAR. Just saying.
