'Annie' remake is on, producer Jay-Z confirms

That "Annie" remake? It's officially happening.

Overbrook Entertainment has teamed up with Jay-Z, Will and Jada Smith to produce an "Annie" vehicle that the superstar couple's daughter Willow will star in.

But the partnership isn’t stopping there – this team is also aiming to develop and produce other feature films.

According to a statement, “The partnership began over dinner with Jada, Will, James Lassiter [of Overbrook] and Jay-Z, where they decided to co-invest in the now successful beauty products line Carol’s Daughter. They continued this partnership as co-producers of the successful Broadway production 'Fela!', which earned a total of eleven Tony Award nominations in 2010.”

Lest you forget, Jay is the guy who signed Willow to his Roc Nation label, which produced her smash single, “Whip My Hair.” Not to mention that Jay himself has had success with sampling the “Annie” property to create his own single, “Hard Knock Life.”

“The time is right to bring back 'Annie' to the big screen,” said Columbia Pictures President Doug Belgrad (the film will be developed by Sony Pictures) in a statement. “Of course, we’re true believers in Willow's talent and believe she will be perfect in this role. Combining Willow with the Overbrook team that re-imagined ‘Karate Kid’ and the spectacular Jay-Z makes this a dream project.”

Overbrook Entertainment, which was founded by partners James Lassiter and Will Smith, will co-produce the project along with Jay-Z.

Oh yeah..way to go and ruin Annie too! This has always been a story about a little white girl with red curly hair living in an orphanage...period. It's not racist, it's fact and now leave it to Jay Z to come along and ghettoize it....is nothing sacred anymore??!

Learn to mind your own business. If the movie is successful or not, none of us will be affected in anyway. So let the ppl spend their money anyway the like. Or how about you wait until the movie premiers, then you go see it and then you can determine if its good or not? Otherwise, leave the freaking ppl alone!!!

Some of the responses to this great idea are just WRONG! Who talks about a little girl the way some of you adults have? Let Willow shine. And if she`s anything like her brother, she will do just that, "SHINE"! Will and Jada are a fantastic couple with fantastic children! Who cares what anyone has to say, because it`s going to happen regardless. They`re the ones calling the shots, not us! Go head on Smith family, and may God continue to bless you all!

And making money doesnt make a movie good. Its unfortunite but black people will go see any movie black starred or made just because its a black movie. This is why as a black women I just shake my head when I read these comments and dont see how everyone all races dont see this is a terrible idea. And not because of the star or producer. There are alot of dumb racists in the world and we dont need to give them more stuff to throw at us.

As a black woman I wish we as a race didnt do this to ourselves. we give all the racists ammunition to fuel the fire. I absolutly agree these kids arent very talented and they're parents buy terrible movies to put them I and make us as a race look stupid. Yes just being a child of a successful actor will get you in the door for auditions ect but earning a role is way different than buying it for them. You never hear of white stars making movies to get there kids a part. Please my fellow black people stop thinking everyone is racist because they think this is a horrible idea because it is. There have been some dumb racist comments but black people need to stop to. Just because we're black doesnt mean we have to think every black made movie is great just because its black made. We keep holding ourselves back and proving dumb racist points for them. Movie will be a flop just like karate kid.

I am a white person and I loved the original, but neither of those things have any bearing on my overall opinion about this movie. If it is good, I'll be happy with it. Overall, I'm very tired of remakes in general. That is the only reason I have any reservations about it. Seems like their hardly doing anything, but remakes or making movies non-stop movies about every superhero they can think of. To all Producers in Hollywood: Please get an original idea!

I'm black and very proud and if someone calls me the N word, that wouldn't even hurt my skin much less my feelings. Hating someone because of their race doesn't make you better, it doesn't put money in your pockets nor is it acceptable in the sight of God. Now tell me why would grown people attach a little child like that? Its pore ignorance. Its their money let them do what they plz. Ppl need to learn when to speak and when to SHUT up. Oh yeah and you Californiagirl you sound like a damn parasite. You sound like you are lack of knowledge. Check this out: after that movie is made, are any of you going to profit financially from it? Lmao oh hell no. They will be paid (richer) and yall still will be working your 9 to 5. I think she's a sweet little kid, but if the masses are willing to buy up drivel like, "I whip my hair back and forth I whip my hair back and forth I whip my hair back and forth I whip my hair back and forth....ect.", her parents and producers are going to keep taking advantage of all of the rampant fast food mentality morons in this country.......and there's a lot of them.......kind of embarrassing for the U.S., really.

Racism is "hatred or prejiduce against another race" and no matter whos doing it; it's wrong. There are plenty of black people that have made it big in entertainment; it's not that new of a concept. To all those that have called Willow ugly; shame on you. She is a very pretty girl and even if she weren't; girls her age have a hard enough time with self confidance and self image without jerks like you making it worse. Grow up.

This is ridiculous; seriously. why does it always have to be a white or black thing? racism is anyone that shows contempt to someone of a different skin color so yes; black people can be just as racist as whites. it is wrong period. who knows; this may be a great movie and more power to the smiths for using what they have! i wish my parents could have done that for me! i don't know if i will go see it because yes; when i think of annie; i think of a little redheaded white girl; not because i am racist but because that is what i am used to. i had a hard time seeing karate kid because i grew up on the original. it isn't fair to say it will bomb just because they are remaking it with someone of color; give it a chance before you judge. some of the comments made me truely sad to not only be american but to be white. all those that made racist comments; both black and white; should be truely ashamed of yourselves. let's stop playing the race card already both blacks and whites. HUMAN POWER!!!

Man, all of this racial talk is ridiculous. I am a White man, with three African-American sisters and three Hispanic brothers. I have never in my life heard so much mindless b.s. I think that the majority of you make valid points (is it fair she was just "given" the role?), but to say it's because she is black is simply ignorant. Do I agree with Will and Jada simply putting their children into the spotlight? No, I don't. However, it is seen in ALL areas, and comes from all walks of life. If ANY person, regardless of race, color or creed, has the means to succeed, why try to hold them back? I watched "The Karate Kid", and Jayden did a GREAT job in his role! The biggest mistake in that film is that he didn't actually train Karate. But how many of you looked past the fact that he is a young, African-American child, and actually put your criticism into something constructive? COLOR should NEVER be a deciding factor. To those of you that disagree, I can only say that before you judge anyone, try walking a mile in their shoes. Our ancestors made mistakes, in EVERY culture. I think it's long overdue that we move past it. And to Willow, I am sorry that you, as a CHILD, are judged so harshly. You give 'em hell!

First of all, i'm not racist. I'm not a hater. And this is just my opinion, but this kid cannot sing, the one song she has out really sucks. I cant stand hearing it. I dont know what Jay Z is thinking. The only reason their kids are going where they are is because of their parents name. It sure isnt because of talent. And another thing, the original Annie sucked, they in the world do a re-make of this terrible movie? What makes me mad is that some people right away always say racism as soon as there are any comments madee that they dont like. Remember, this is just my opinion. It isnt about color.

If the Smiths want to get their kids a starring role in a movie then by all means go ahead and do it. It's their money and frankly I could care less about what they decide to spend it on. But I honestly can't stand the thought of a remake of a classic like Annie. Some movies aren't supposed to be remade because the new version could not even compare to the original. I don't care if the actor or actress is white, black, hispanic, or asian; just think of some new idea for a movie. You wouldn't even imagine making a remake of a classic like It's a Wonderful Life, so why try to remake this?

Beyonce was the star in the remake of Dreamgirls, but Jennifer Hudson won the awards. Remaking Annie is an okay idea. Buying a child the lead role who cant sing sucks sweaty balls! The entertainment world has gone down. Its about who you know not how great you are as a performer. Willow is a talentLESS, spoiled, grown diva who is gonna be another Beyonce who just wont go away! Are u for or against our nation? Its misery like these garbage comments from the peanut gallery that spawned satan. Remember the lizard, that formed a snake? This whole thing was racist. I'm a white catholic republican who looked just lk annie most of my life. Shirlley temple was gorgeous b/c she could sing & look ragged at the same time. I firmly believe any1 for/ or against the making/ production of this movie has 2 do some research. U can't love everything u hear about or see on the news or anything. Nobody in our god forsaken country is humble anymore. Why can't u ppl leave stuff like this a secret so nobody knows until the previews like in the old days before they added sound into films? Walt disney would be disgusted if he found out what u communists & stupid people are doing to todays youth!!!!!!! I'm from pittsburgh, pa I've loved nfl football my whole life. Stairway to heaven is a classic song in my eyes I have the video (the live version) the song & the legend imprinted in my mind. Now u tell me what propaganda is in the 21st century!!!! Its critics & people that have closed minds & bleeding hearts. Does nobody have faith anymore? Can't u believe simply for the sake of believing? I'm sure somebody believed in all of you. Atleast at one point in ur miserable life. That's what faith is....no matter who u r...someone will always love u. Whether they r above/beneath u. That's what a role model is... Do more research!!!

Jealous that pretty lil black girl will make more money in a day that most of you will make in a life time. With that said all i have to say to that is Hi Hater .. we see you. i totally agree that a remake of the movie is not needed. But attacking a child is uncalled for. And to do so show how igornant and immature your are. Do you hate yourself so much that calling a kid ugly makes you feel better...

That doesn't mean you had to go there. To imply that black women smell bad is not only childish but its hurtful and certainly uncalled for. Jesus we forget how utterly human we all are. The color of our skin should not take away from our humanity. We all human. One race dose not out weight the other. We are all equal parts to the same whole!

The movie Annie was about a orpan that no one wanted. Imagine being an African-American child as a orphan, its probably tripple the amoutn of struggle. The elements that revolve around the African American child can be down right soul shifting. The REAL American HArd KNock Life. Jay-Z made a song called "Hard Knock Life" about that very same concept so Will and Jada are doing a make of Jay-Z's idea and a remake of the original movie...

Annie's about and orphan that no one wanted. Imagine being an African-American child period in our society, let alone a orphan. Its probably triple the amount of struggle then a red haird white kid.. The elements that revolve around an African American child are totally different and can be down right soul shifting. The REAL American Hard Knock Life. (At least that's how I obsorbed the idea). Oh and speakin of Hard Knock Life, Jay-Z made a song called "Hard Knock Life". In regards to that very same concept.. The sound was very Light Toned, as if the pain of that life is something that just "is".. Which makes that life that much more sad and the song that much more impactful.. CLASSIC.. As was the original movie... Jay-Z's song brought out the "REAL" American Hard Knock life.. Who can deny who had that !? Will & Jada are making a movie off Jay-Z's idea of America's "REAL" Hard Knock Life...

&To the lady talking about his name still being "Jay-Z". If that's what got me 1/2 half a billon $'s you could call me anything you'd like.. Sad things is, you too ! Lol...

I'm a black girl from the south so I know that racism is still alive and down here it is just a simple truth. This article was not about race it was about a remake of a classic fictional character. Hollywood is not very african american friendly let's be honest about that black directors and actors have to work twice as hard to get their work out there. So there is plenty of original work done by black artist that goes unseen and unheard of. But that's not the point. Why did everyone have to turn this into something about racism... That's so sad!!! I hope the movie does well not because willow is a black girl but because I want the work to stop viewing everything as black and white...

Is this real? have we really allowed ourselves to give rasicm its face back. it is sad that so many people are hating on such a young beautiful girl. our children are our future and this is how we treat them. We down them and degrade them and for what? truth is- it dosent matter what child gets the role, it dosent matter if that child is black or white. all that matters is that we encourage and support our children. the children of today are the leaders of tomorrow and if we dont work together to praise and teach eachothers children then we might as well kiss this world goodbye. We need our kids to feel loved and appriciated. we need them to know that its okay to be yourself. its okay to think and its okay to speak and its okay to exist. stop downing this beautiful child and embace her creativity and encourage her to continue making something of herself. my personal opionion is that we need more kids like williow. more kids unafraid to stand out and make a statement. willow-U GO GIRL!!!!!!

This is not color, this is life 101. Their interest is film making, they have money, they have a child who is interested in showing off acting and singing abilities.... badabing! Annie is purchased. The movie will be mildly entertaining and will make some cash. To the fool who said "Oscar snub" and referenced color. Well, you are a fool. Over 95% of movies are never reviewed for an Oscar. Maybe for those who are insecure race is still an issue. In fact lashing out and attempting to use big words to mask that desperation shows just how insecure you are. I'm surprised you knew the word biggot to be honest but just because you know it doesn't mean you know how to use it. Also, this is not church and you have no right to call anyone a sinner. You are a hypocrite and the only good hypocrites are the ones that can admit to being one. You are not a good hypocrite. No it's never nice to call a child ugly but neither is your horrendous spelling and bad play at intelligence.

Oh by the way, any racial issue we may have left is only there because people like yourselves choose to not forget about it and live in the twenty first century. Saying that all whites hate people of color and get everything is like saying all black people are gangsters and will steal your stuff as you as you turn your back our that all again people are super smart. That is stereotyping. Not cool. People of all races gave equal opportunities to make something of remarks, it isn't a new thing. Oprah has been around how long now?

Thank you @nee great response. Good way to keep your composure.

      Your of your rocker @miya.
This country has never recovered from the days of slavery. While racism is not something most whites are aware of or even willing to admit, does not mean it does not exist. White America has been systematically oppressing minorities thru means that are designed to keep them in metaphorical shackles. From poorly funded schools, to the disproportionate incarceration rate.

The images Hollywood puts out of black woman and men are usually negative for the most part.

So all I have to say is Thank God for the Smith family, this nepotism and the positive influence they have on our community

Also if you haven't noticed all schools are badly funded. The government is suppressive but not just of the african american race. The past is the past. I'm not saying to forget it just to let it go. Warner bros had so little faith in a movie released in 1967 that they got the producer to accept 40% of the films gross instead of paying him a salary for the work. This is unheard of. The film went on to gross over 70 million by 1973. The film is Bonnie & Clyde. The producer is Warren Beatty. Don't assume any film will bomb or succeed. The experts can't always tell either. The Annie remake will be revamped and remade and released and reviewed and loved.

studios are not charitable organizations. production companies are not looking for a tax write off. they will make it. people will see it. a profit will be made. life will go on.

for ANY movie, the studio has recieved a budget from the production company with a forcast of the cost to make the movie, and the projected revenue it will bring in. If it's "in the red", why would they make the movie? No one is in the business to lose money, not eve Jay-Z and the Smiths. you are welcome to disagree... but financial statements speak clearly.

PEOPLE like to make issues about taste, race, justice, fairness. ORANIZATIONS focus on the money. This transcends from buisness, politics, social media, and even to hollywood. It's just that simple...

And why not? Anyone can make any movie they want, origional script or a remake, cast whoever they want, for whatever reason they want. This is a free country. And we will pay $12 a ticket to see it if we want. Don't go if you don't want to... or you don't like that they are re-making it, or if you think a unknown actress should have been cast, etc, etc, etc.

I hate to see that many of the post have to do race or color, but that's the world we live in today. Sad that many people are still so ignorant on the matter. Sounds like a great movie I can't wait! Will's kids seem to have talent!

2011, the 21st century, and the racist card continues to be played from EVERY angle. I find this frustrating, sad and depressing. Color means nothing. What matters most? We are human. Each of us trying to live this life day by day, making ends meet, providing for our children, and just trying to find our deserved, little piece of happiness. Every single person in this nation is trying to do just that, be it white, black, hispanic, asian, etc. For those that find ignorance is bliss, remember our history: this country is the melting pot. It was for so many years a beacon of hope for a better life. But in that beacon, this country created slavery (stealing from Africa people who didn't want to leave their home, against their will, to be treated as cattle), stole from, removing them from their land, and murdered the native americans, the people who were here first. Know your history, learn the history of this "great" country. We must learn from our past to do right by our present and future. It is time for peace, for people to come together, not against one another. Through the forever tiring race card away – be you white, black, hispanic, etc. Look upon one another as brothers and sisters. Have compassion for one another. Love one another. Let's not repeat the trespasses of our ancestors. And most of all, don't allow yourself to remain ignorant. Educate yourself. Only through knowledge does compassion and understanding take root and flourish. Lastly, I don't care who does what in Hollywood. I love movies and only want to be entertained. Bring to screen a great flick and I'll be there, no matter who happens to be in it. All of this from a white gal in the midwest. Peace everyone. It is time.

@abbazabba & other haters. you are uninformed idiots. There are great shows and movies coming from the black community. Do a little research before you comment. Just to name a few: Flora's Family. Waiting to Exhale. Soul Food. Precious. Boyz in the Hood. Are we there yet. Are we done yet.
Color Purple. Kingdom Come. Maybe you've seen Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. Both shows have diverse casts but a brilliant black woman is responsible for them. Living single. Cosby show. Its a Different World. And there are many more.
Hollywood has been revamping and remaking films for years and Annie is just one of many. Guess Who is a remake from the black parents point of view and is hilarious. Raisin in the Sun is a remake. The Wiz is delightful.
(I'd love to see a remake of the UK film Calendar Girls with black characters.) There is an abundance of original work out there as well as remakes from the black writers producers directors and actors. They ARE giving us more than Barbershop, which is a good movie with a sequel also. I look forward to this film.

I won't pay anything to see an Annie remake no matter who's in it. I've always liked Will Smith, but his wife and kids annoy me. And that's enough reason for me to not contribute to their delusions of talent.

Expressing an opinion doesn't make a person a loser. Disagree with what's said, but name-calling is the lowest form of debate.

I think both Smith kids are homely and talentless. It's called the truth as I see it. This is the real world. If Will Smith's kids want fame as desperately as they seem to, they're going to have to take the bad with the good. Not everyone will like them, and that's life.

One of the benefits of succeeding in any field, including acting, is that you can pass those opportunities down through your family. Americans have done it in business for centuries. Hence the term, "family business". All you folks who are bitter because Willow was chosen for this role instead of auditions being held, I bet you don't feel the same way about a parent who owns a company naming their child as their successor or partner. Should they be forced to hold interviews or is it their right to pass the business down to their own family. It is their business after all. I also bet you wouldn't feel the same way if it was your child and you had the power to give them an opportunity. Only time will tell if Willow was a good choice and if not, I'm sure Jada and Will will think twice before doing this same thing again with Willow. Besides, they DO have the right to do it, regardless of your dislike for it. Deal with it. It's the American way!

As well its our right to have freedom of speech which allows all of you idiots to use the race card in your earlier comments. So what if Will and Jada are funding this film they have the money and can. Plus as parents and they are doing what they can do for supporting their children. Sure they are a Hollywood family but guess what folks look at that are still a family. Good for them for parenting they way they know how. As for JayZ folks he is a smart man and I don't think he would be involved if this wasn't a great opportunity. And if it fails so what its his decision. And at the end of the day if all you haters don't approve you have the right now to go see the movie. But guess what I bet you will out of curiousity. For those of you who don't know, Jay-z has wanted to remake Annie for years. It reminds him of his sister. That's why he covered the song in the first place. Secondly, why is it wrong for a parent (regardless of income) to want the best for his or her child? Should I tell my daughter (whom I direct in the church children's choir) that she can never have a solo because I'm the director? For better of worse we all do it. More power to them if they want to help their daughter dream big.

Ignorance is catchy, obviously, as evidenced by the sheer amount of racist responses put forth by what we consider an advanced society in the 21st century who can make things fly, launch a person into space and have a world wide web connecting billions of people but can't for the life of me shake off and put behind bitter sentiments felt by past civilizations from day one. So it is most fitting that I quote a man whose idea was as revolutionary and crazy back then as it is and needed today: " I may not agree with what you say but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it "- Voltaire (1694-1778)

My word, there are quite a few generalizations and insults littered throughout these comments. I'm afraid to admit I have blonde hair and blue eyes for fear I'll immediately be insulted and called a racist. I believe it is wrong and childish to insult anyone based on color. I don't care if someone is black, brown, pink, white, etc. It doesn't matter. However, it's exasperating when I choose to respect people, regardless of color or gender, and people assume I'm racist - simply because I'm a white blonde. I find that rather ironic. Outward appearances are meaningless without love and respect, and I see very little of either amidst these comments. Best of luck to Willow! She's a lovely girl, and I'm sure she'll do wonderfully in the remake.

Face it White America things dont get their full potential unless our black hands go thru it. Just ask Tommy Hilfiger and Liz Claiborne's racist behinds where the bulk of their sales came from? And lets get off the race crap because white folks are more COLORED then black people. When your born your pink stay in the sun or tanbed 2 long u turn red when your unconcious your blue and when u die you turn gray now ask yourself white folks who should be looked at as Colored. By the way was your granddaddy flirting with any of his slaves? You know white folks do have a way with burying their skeleton but in the end something in their past always seems to come back out of now where & bites them in the behind.

You can't cry "foul" about whites being racist when you're a racist yourself. Though your ancestors might have been slaves, YOU were NOT, and you have to move on if you expect others to.

So what if blacks buy products designed by whites? So what if there's some R&B in music made by whites? It's called admiration, integration, and in some cases collaboration.

P.S. I don't want your hair and I'm fine with my own excellent poise. If you were as comfortable in your own skin as I am in mine, you wouldn't delude yourself into thinking that white girls want to be you.

People were also mad when Quincy Jones did the Wiz, and not it's a classic to many people! If the book was based on an actual person, I would think twice about this, but it's Annie for goodness sake!!!!! NO, Jim Carrey should not play MLK just like Chris Rock should not play JFK, but who cares what color Annie is. The whole point was she was the red head, freckled kid that was considered not "good enough" to adopt because white America wanted blondes and brunettes. With all the minorities that are at the bottom of the list to be adopted, I think this is a good switch up...lighten up people and get your panties out of your a**es!

I find this hilarious...it appears to me everyone wants to be a black woman, without actually being one.
When you stop tanning, lip injecting, botox (we don't wrinkle easily), butt implants, calling me "girlfriend" just because I'm brown skinned, then maybe we"ll get original. It's laughable since 90% of caucasian blondes are actually brunettes, where's the originality there?!? Let's not talk about how our culture is used and embrace to sell everything from cereal to insurance. If the only black movies you know are barbershop and friday, then you need to get out of your trailer in the backwoods, take off your hood and join the real world....there's some great, original, intelligent movies made by ALL race, but maybe they're to deep for you....stick to friday and barbershop, Oh better yet.....Showgirls, Howard the Duck, and anything starring Larry the Cable guy! You do realize your precious "Friends" was a direct rip off of "Living Single" right?

Kcv)..get it right...WHY do you think so many black guys wind up with other races. Certainly not black girls. I went to school at a 90% black school...and that gym locker was.rank!!!!!! Dont know why but even when you pass a black girl anywhere......ahhhhh, the ranky rotten stink....yuk. My girlfriends and i (white, hispanic) have never smelled anything soooo bad. That black gym locker stink was do bad i told my teacher, theres no way i will go back in there. Several other white girls said the same. Sorry black girlfriends.....even when you wear "white"...cant hide the black.

Good old U-S of A! Hating on kids. Remakes have been the trend for the past 5 years. Transformers, G.I. Joe, etc. Nothing original is my gripe. And all of you saying they have no talent have NOT been following them. Willow sang acapella on Ellen and sounded great! 'Youtube' her brother and check out some of the dance moves. Remember, just because your kids can't do it doesn't make it right to ridicule the kids that can.

That was acapella for 2 seconds, right up to the point where the mike was placed on the stand. Nothing any kid who can carry a tune couldn't have done with proper voice training. Willow is a very cute kid, but it is quite evident that she has been extensively prepped for a role that at this age, only money can buy.

When I first heard about this I just shook my head in disbelief. Why is is that the Smith's have to produce movies for their kids to star in? Ummm – because no one hires them? And why does no one hire them? Ummmm – because they have no talent!

The reason they are doing these re-makes is because no one will hire these 2 kids for new scripts. Because they have no talent. So they use their own money, get favours from friends like the former NYC "gangsta" and think they are doing us a great favour.

Karate Kid was a dud......and this new version of Annie will do no better.

Hopefully the Smiths will get the point when the revenues don't come rolling in and begin to act like parents – not agents.

Parenting, Alana, isn't about giving your kids everything they want. It's about guiding them and teaching them that they can do anything within their talents and limitations. It's not about blowing sunshine up their butts and making their lives too easy (i.e., buying their ways). If the Smith kids are so talented, let them EARN their ways.

This is the 21st century people! Just relax. There are more important things going on in this world then entertainment news. Black people,we know what happen to us. Most of these people don't like the idea because they just don't like the idea. We need to stop segregating ourselfs and find more clever ways to debate these issues. All the other nay sayers who just purely don't like the idea because they think she's talentless and previledge then I beg of you to just give it a chance. The world won't end if Willow Smith plays Annie. We live in a democracy for the goodness sake. Some people will like it and some will be theorally entertained. The lack of a audition for the part is what might kill this film on arrival. It is not that she is black but that without try outs what fo you say to the tens of thousands of little girls who's parents are working their rear ends off to get acting parts. I think that we as african Americans can not hold in one hand Martin Luther King's statement of judging on abilites while on the other hand applauding Will and Jada for being as underhanded as the whites from the past.

I want to see a girl of color playing such a role but at the same time Willow and her brother should not have films just purchased for them. It was wrong when other races did it and it is wrong now.

Soror Jada ~ Good for you and Will to produce an all american CLASSIC musical, Annie! I am so very happy for you, Will and now, Willow ~ With Jay Z and Columbia Pictures ~ and the parntership that Will has at Overbrook, it will be a smash hit! The African-American community is searching to see themselves on the silver screen ~ Hollywood has been white as rice for centuries and we need to have chips in that cookie! Hollywood is NOW being reflective of the audience it serves ~ whatever it takes and by any means necessary, I know that your team will 'put it down'.
African-Americans have $$$$ to spend ~ The money we won't spend on True Grit and Black Swan, will certainly make us happy to put it where it counts: "RIGHT OVER TO ANNIE!" ~ Good luck on your project! We are rooting for you!

      Just sayin'.
Anyway, I'll be looking out for more news on this, sounds like it'll be good. c:

PLEASE! Hollywood was created by jews, not white people. This was probably one of the most uneducated, racist comments I've seen in a while. Get your facts straight, please.

@ Greenway: So now if a person wants for African-Americans to get a piece of the Hollywood pie, that's racist? WOW! I guess the only way to not be racist is to just not try to go after the same things as whites have historically gone after. Don't try to succeed at anything, or else they're being racist. Uh Oh. If a black person wants to break into producing, directing and acting, they are racist. That means that any African-American who has ever become a CEO, talented sports figure, politician, etc. must be racist too, you know, because only whites can fairly do those things. Right. You actually sound racist and you should be ashamed.

Or did you also think Beverly Hills Chihuahua was a good idea for a movie just because somebody was getting paid?

I am not excited to hear about this remake, especially if its Willow Smith playing Annie. Stumble upon some new creation people, remakes are getting old. Give some way more talented kid to shine who's parents don't already have guaranteed access to success.

You call Gabe a "loser" because he's honest about what he thinks of the Smith brat? I think she's ugly too. What kind of loser expects others to not say what they think? Willow Smith is as fug as she is overindulged. Deal with it.

    • @ Winner

Gabe Kaplan = Winner (you are one in the same, don't hide it troll)

On that note, I agree she's talentless. She's not attractive to me, either, but I wouldn't go as far as to call her ugly... she is only a child after all who has time to develop into a mature woman. In the meantime, while you sit all smug behind that computer of yours, remember that even as talentless as she is, she's probably a lot better off than you are in your miserable state. Though money really isn't the means to true happiness, she's doing what she enjoys with the connections she has. I bet if you had those connections you would be singing a different tune. The quit button on life is right there... press it.

Just wait until you have kids (if you can even find anyone). God forbid they come out ugly like you. What goes around comes around, tough guy.

Well it only makes sense. After all, once your parents money rockets you into fame, it's the next logical step on the singer, actress, fashion designer, hair product line creator, washed up nothing because you had no real talent in the first place ladder.
