Sylvester Stallone confirms 'Expendables' sequel

Sylvester Stallone is on a mission to reunite "The Expendables" dream team for another explosive adventure.

"We're at work on it," Stallone, 64, confirmed to CNN at the Hollywood premiere of Jason Statham's "The Mechanic."

"Because you have about five different scenarios, and you try to figure out which one will work the best: what area, the kind of stunts, and most important, what is the heart of the film? What is the reason for the mission instead of just guys running around — some purpose. That's the hard part."

The first "Expendables" starred Stallone, Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture as a group of mercenaries sent to South America to assassinate a dictator. Stallone jokes that Statham, 38, won't be getting much action the second time around.

“Unfortunately, Jason has a terrible accident in the first scene and we just talk about him for the next two hours," he says. "He doesn't know that yet, so don't break it to him.”

I thought that the first movie was excellent. It really brought back the old style of action movies with some of the greatest action heros of that period (Lundgren, Stallone, Willis etc etc.) Action movies today are terrible – they are genuinely cringeworthy but I really enjoyed the Expendables. I would rather watch the Expendables than most of the other movies out today and I am including all genres not just action (Twilight for example can take a run and jump.) I am really looking forward to another movie and hoping that Lundgren will get a bigger part in it. So hopegully Sly will pull another good classic action movie out of the bag.

Expendables 2 will be awesome. I liked the first one, just your basic, crazy action movie.

Yes, Yes those are fine. They highlight his macho physique and higher intellect, but Judge Dredd did more than that, if you recall. It showed us his thespian roots and inner turmoil...

When you're talking recognition, you're referring to something other than the Oscars he won for "Rocky" for movie and writing, right?

The guy makes action movies for people who like action movies. I loved The Social Network, The Fighter, The Expendables and the Kings Speech last year. None of them are similar.

But I'll also agree, the guy has made some AWFUL movies. Stop or my Mom will shoot? well, that ends that discussion 🙂

I agree JR with your agreement of Samamtha. As a Llama farmer I only graduated sixth grade and adore Sly's material. When will the Almighty Oscar recognize the man who brought us Tango and Cash?

I agree with CAPSman here, we need to worry more about the Taliban parachuting into the mall of America and inappropriately touching our pampered dogs. We don't have time for 80 year old former action movie stars that used to do pron.

whoa whoa whoa people, you're missing the importance of these movies. you're not using that critical thinking you used back in school. think about the psycological impact these movies and action stars have on AMERICANS. we love this kind of stuff. Kick'in *** and taking initials.... BECAUSE HERE COMES MORE TERRORIST SO WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO TAKE NAMES. once young men watch movies like this they'll feel themselves filled with a since of duty to get up and join the fight. JOIN THE FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISTS. this will help fill the ranks of our military and add to the support needed to assist in world crisis........ or just go play Call of Duty: Black Ops.

You're right, there is a serious scenario in Egypt. That's probably why they posted this story in the ENTERTAINMENT section.
And when did the artsy snobbish folk who think their poo don't stink, take over the comments section? Was "The Expendables" a good movie? No. Was it fun? Hell yes.
