'21 Jump Street' movie to have high-school drama

Expect plenty of drama — of the high school kind — when the "21 Jump Street" movie hits the big screen. Actor Jonah Hill, who scripted and will star in the revamp of the popular '80s TV series that starred Johnny Depp, says his cops won't necessarily be on their best behavior when they go undercover as students.

"They get caught up in the high school-ness as opposed to the police work," Hill, 27, tells MTV News. "And whenever they get too caught up in the high school drama, police work comes in. And whenever they get too caught up in the police work, high school drama comes in."

"21 Jump Street" is set to begin shooting in New Orleans on April 11, and co-star Channing Tatum is currently the only other actor on board.

"It was really important to get the main two characters together, and then now we gotta fill out the rest of the cast," says Hill, who is hoping Depp will make a cameo.

For his part, Depp definitely seems game: "I'm in," he told MTV in December.

(Sigh) Why? TV shows don't have the best track record of translating to the big screen. Plus, this kid isn't even old enough to remember the era and why we loved this show. And the whole point was the cops passed for highschoolers. By this pic Hill looks like a grandfather. Who ON EARTH greenlit this project with him at the helm?? (I particularly resent that he put himself in the Peter DeLuise role.)

@Todd..... Nowhere did I mention going to see the movie, now did I? I simply stated my opinion hence the reason the people created a spot for comments on CNN.

Enough with the remakes already, I loved this show as a series, please don't ruin it by creating a movie.

No one will force you to watch the movie. If you think it will "ruin" the tv series then dont watch it. Problem solved.

good ol peter deluise was also on the original show. he went on to become a pretty good director. he was the son of comedian dom deluise. there were lots of great people on that show. i even joined amnesty international because of plugs on the series. 🙂

How will they explain the fact that Jonah Hill apparently ate Johnny Depp?
