Laura Linney misses Globes due to father's death

“The Big C” star Laura Linney won a best actress in a TV series - comedy or musical Golden Globe on Sunday, but sadly, the 46-year-old actress wasn’t there to accept it.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the day before the awards show Linney’s father, playwright Romulus Linney, died of lung cancer at the age of 80 at his home in Germantown, New York.

The funeral for Linney’s father will be private, and he is also survived by his wife, Laura Callanan and daughter Susan Linney.

Linney, who portrays a straight-laced suburban mom who decides to loosen up after being diagnosed with cancer on the Showtime series, beat out Toni Collette (“United States of Tara”), Edie Falco (“Nurse Jackie”), Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) and Lea Michele (“Glee”) for the honor.
