Talk about revenge of the nerds.
The Golden Globes was indeed golden for the geeks as they swept the awards. “The Social Network” racked up four awards (we wonder if Zuckerberg mentioned that in his Facebook status) for best dramatic motion picture, best screenplay, best director and best original score.
The gleeks also had something to sing about as “Glee” won for best television series – comedy or musical, while cast member Jane Lynch snagged best actress in a supporting role in a series, miniseries or made for television motion picture, and co-star Chris Colfer was named best actor in a supporting role.
Colfer gave a major shout out to the nerd herd: "Most importantly, to all the amazing kids that watch our show and the kids that our show celebrates, who are constantly told 'no' by the people in their environments, by bullies at school that they can't be who they are or have what they want because of who they are. Well, screw that, kids."
And while his character on “Boardwalk Empire” isn’t exactly geekish, Steve Buscemi has long been claimed by that crew for his several off beat and smarmy performances, often in productions by the Coen brothers. Buscemi took home the best performance by an actor in a dramatic television series award.
But the biggest geek globe went to the poster boy for the tribe, Jim Parsons, who won best performance by an actor in a television series – comedy or musical for his performance as Sheldon Cooper in “The Big Bang Theory.”
Parsons plays the part of a socially inept, completely self-absorbed physicist so well that he almost completely disappears into the role. Those watching the awards even had the opportunity to see a bit of the scene-stealing Sheldon when Parsons accidentally referred to the show’s writers as “my writers.”
"THE writers,” Parsons quickly corrected himself. "'My writers' - how crass."
