It's hard to pinpoint what went wrong last season with "Big Love." Between the all-too-symbolic opening credits, the casino and Ċ½eljko Ivanek's creepy pregnancy schemes, it just wasn't as good as we've seen in seasons past.
The show's return on Sunday night for its final season offered hope that things might be on their way to improvement. The premiere focused on the Hendricksons, and how Bill's decision to publicly reveal their secret just after being elected to state senate has affected them.
One of the kids was bullied at school, leading Nicki to (of course) confront the bully, something which came back to bite all of them at a school assembly.
But the best part of this series has always been the interaction between the sister-wives, and while Barb turned to drinking and Margene (fresh after getting fired from her TV sales job) turned to multilevel marketing, Nicki wondered why they were all so surprised that this sort of thing might happen.
Bill faced the biggest consequence of all, now being mistrusted by his store, his constituents and his fellow lawmakers.
So, it wasn't surprising when Bill's open house had zero attendance - until late in the night when a few fellow polygamists showed up to thank him for what he did.
I have high hopes that this show can get back to what made it great in the early seasons. So far, we've been treated to a little of the compound drama, but not too much just yet, like we've seen recently. More of the Hendricksons in these final episodes, please.
I'm also really interested to see how this all ends. Every season seems to build up to some catastrophe, and it's anyone's guess what will happen.
