Pac-Man coming to life with new reality series

Waka-waka or just wacky? Beloved '80s arcade game Pac-Man is coming to life in a new reality series.

According to, Merv Griffin Entertainment is developing an unscripted show about the pellet-eating yellow blob that was chased through a maze by Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. The series coincides with the 30th anniversary of the iconic video game.

Merv Griffin's president of TV, Roy Bank, describes the upcoming Pac-Man project as a "big, crazy, 'Wipeout'-type event with a lot of energy. The idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world's biggest game of tag to television."

The world's biggest game of tag on television? Sounds...interesting. What do you think?

Got my "table model" when I was 65 years old and loved it. Since time is fleeting, I presented it to my grandson-in-law who was ecstatic and drove 1200 miles to take it home. It now resides in a special location in their home; has its own stools and the great grandchildren are becoming most proficient. Viva MS PACMAN !!!

...just another nail in the coffin for American cultural integrity. I cannot think of anything more idiotic or time-wasting than to watch people run around playing tag–most "reality" TV shows are infantile, but this takes it to an entirely new level. God help us.

The people have spoken Merv, Inc. Do not make Pac-Man into a movie. It will be terrible – right up there with The Smurfs movie.

Sounds like, with the death of Merv Griffin, the company that bears his name is adrift without a rudder.

There ARE so many ways they can run with it. The 'yellow blob' could be on a mission to lose weight; all of the game characters could have obnoxious personalities like JarJar Binks and Yogi Bear, but set in Jersey; pacman could be like Tron – a man trapped in a videogame.

Long overdue, IMHO. The greatness of PacMan cannot be denied or contained. Merv Griffin is a genius!
