Jane Lynch: World's not ready for gay actors as romantic leads

There could be another reason Coach Sue planned to marry herself on an earlier episode of "Glee" this season: Openly gay actress Jane Lynch believes the world just isn't ready to see homosexual actors playing a romantic lead.

Most of the world is straight, Lynch tells After Elton, and "what studios want is for people to project their hopes and their dreams for romance onto these people. And I think that’s what stops them from casting gay people… It’s everybody looking at the bottom line."

While actor Rupert Everett claims his career tanked after he came out, 50-year-old Lynch, who wed psychologist Lara Embry last Memorial Day, believes she hasn't lost work because of her sexuality.

"I’ve never been turned down for a role because I’m gay," she says. "I’m a character actor, and that’s probably why. I don’t find Hollywood, in my own experience, to be homophobic. Have I ever been turned down? I don’t know because you never know when you don’t get something or why you didn’t get it. But I do think the straight folks will continue to play the straight roles."

When they said the world is not ready for gay lead actors; this proves they are slowly changing the cultures and have an agenda. At least they have nothing to fear in religion. So they'll get a few months of peace before they burn in hell.

The main character in the series Torchwood, Captain Jack, is played by a gay man who is also a gay character on the show. The difference between him and Jane Lynch is that the actor playing Capt. Jack is gorgeous, while Jane Lynch is dog ugly.

Rock Hudson comes to mind ... he was known in Hollywood but did the roles quite well. I enjoyed him with Doris Day.

For all you gay-bashers - stop and think "when did *I* get to choose to be straight or gay?"

Your brain might finally wake up and say "Hey! *I* did NOT get to choose!!!"

I think all gay people should get a bomb plugged up their a$$es and be blown up. What a disgrace.

You're missing the point entirely. It's not about gay characters, it's about gay ACTORS. Put the beer bottle down and turn your caps lock off, sweetie.

It seems people or Hollywood has issues with gay men playing straight men. But straight men get major props and possibly nominated for an oscar when they play a gay man! It certainly didn't hurt Robin Williams, William Hurt, Sean Penn, James Franco, Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenaul, Keanu Reeves, River Phoenix, his brother Joaquin, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Colin Firth, the list is HUGE!

It just seems odd, doesn't it?

I'm sorry Jane but have you watch Grays Anatomy? There are two very strong lead lesbian caricatures on that show. 🙂

Once again, a misleading headline..... However, I like Jane Lynch whatever role she plays. I don't agree that people in general can't accept gay actors in straight roles, though maybe SOME people can't. It's called acting, and if the actor is good, they can play whatever role they are given.
