Kudos to "Modern Family" for keeping us guessing. On Wednesday night's episode, not only was it revealed that Mitchell had a momentary, eight-year-old fling with ex-girlfriend Tracy, but he suspected the short red-headed person she was speaking to was their son!
Cam's response earned him this week's MVP status, starting off with "Mmm, mm hmm," followed by this instant classic: "Mitchell, I need to have my reaction."
That reaction manifested itself with, "You don't just tell your partner you may have a baby with someone else and expect them to go back to eating a delicious and inventive meal like it's nothing!"
Cam was also responsible for a running gag, about the couple naming off some of their "ex-girlfriends." Said Mitchell, "These are characters from musicals. You're so gay, you can't even think of real girl's names."
All of this led up to one of the biggest twists in "Modern Family" history. Cam and Mitchell finally meet the redhead in person... who turns out to be Tracy's boyfriend. That "Little Slugger" baseball glove was a bad choice, in retrospect.
The other storylines - Phil and Claire's love of movies like "Croctopus" and "any sequel '3' or higher" (preferably "5") and Jay's kiss-off to an annoying couple he didn't realize were staying over - made for some good lines here and there (including Gloria's explanation that "Jay's mind is going away"). But, they ultimately weren't as great as what we've come to expect from the show.
