'Jersey Shore's' record-setting premiere

Three seasons in, and we’re definitely still watching “Jersey Shore.”

Last night’s premiere of the MTV reality show drew 8.45 million viewers, making the start of season three MTV's most-watched series telecast ever.

The premiere also delivered more young viewers – ages 12 to 34 – than any other broadcast or cable show this season, excluding sports programming.

And compared to season two’s debut – which also set a record when it premiered last July with 5.3 million watching - the ratings for the third season’s opener were up by 63 percent in the 12-34 demo.

Every american has the choice, either to watch or not. I just can't believe the venom people feel they have to spew. This is someones lil girl, and a young woman with opportunity. When in America, do we hate kids for being kids. I am not a fan, nor have I watched the show but DAMN folks cut her a huss. There is plenty more to be enraged about.

The more publicity they get, the more money they make, so when cnn writes a story and so many people respond to it, it's still making the jersey shore cast more money...So for all you commenting on how the people watching it are morons...well look who the bigger idiot is, since you are just contributing to their fame dumb@$$es! You're the only ones who look stupid.

I hate to admit it...but I watch it. I think its funny and it IS actually stuff that does happen. The only difference is that this is being filmed for our amusement. I'm sure there are plently of people who remember what it was like to have their group of friends that they acted like this with when THEY (We LOL) were in our 20's. Good clean fun! Oh and ITSSSS T-SHIRT TIME!!!!!!!!!! LOVE TO VINNY!!!

That's funny that you say that, because J-WOW has been the only person on that show to be in a monogomous relationship with 1 person throughout the season's and not shown to have messed around at all...so I don't know where you get the idea that she sleeps around enough to get the clap. There's no proof of it so that statement does not have any ground.

I tend to view the characters on this show, as well as all those who now choose to emulate them, as second-rate citizens. They're really not capable of doing anything productive, so I'm not sure they should have the same rights as the rest of us. It frightens me to think that these people might actually vote. Who am I kidding? The only voting they're even aware of is Facebook polls. You can all say that "It's television," and "It's harmless entertainment," and for many people, it is! But you cannot look at the state of our country, the apathy of many teens and young adults, and the change that television programming has undergone in the last decade and say that our country is growing dumber and dumber each day.

We work and the money is gone as soon as we make it because everything is so expensive these days. Turn on the TV, open a newspaper, log onto the comp and you are flooded with killings, missing people, war, dirty politics ... so yes people, obviously alot of people, choose to escape for a little while and watch something you can laugh at. Something stupid, someone acting totally off the wall and opposite of what you see everyday. THAT folks is why it's called entertainment.. you don't have to think, you don't have to engage... you can just relax, ... and laugh. Try it sometime when you get a break from your book reading.

    • You're all retarded

Like I saw someone mention before this show is a guilty pleasure. Im an 18 year guy and I have YET to meet someone who views these people as role models. We all know they're idiots. Its why we watch the show. Its funny to laugh at how ridiculous they are. They live a lifestyle all young people wish they could live. To party all the time, have no resposiblities, live in a sweet house...what you're all not understanding is not that we want to BE them but to LIVE like them. It's not this thats dumbing down America. This is just the display of a guilty pleasure, a lifestyle the majority of young people want to live. The dumbing down of America is simply the poor management of the education system, not this. An example would be that the state with the largest single population (California) also is in the bottom 3 of education. THAT is whats causing the dumbing down of America. Not shows like Jersey Shore. All who say otherwise are idiots and whiners just because you are too insignificant to try and make a change yourself you instead hop on these comment boards and complain. Its quite pathetic to be honest.

90% of the wealth is in entertainment because 90% of the population wishes they were someone else, somewhere else and doing something else. Without that, a ho like Snooki wouldn't exist outside of her own low-rent block. There is absolutely no redeeming value to Jersey Shores, or any other "reality" show, much less television at all. But as you yourself wrote, the Beatles and Elvis had actual talent. I wouldn't say they were guilty pleasures at all. I wasn't even born until a year after the Beatles broke up, but I have tons of their songs on my iPod, along with the Stones, Elvis and a range of other music. What do these surgically enhanced, steroid-aided wastes of air have to contribute of value?

Jersey Shore ratings are a good indicator of the dropout rate in America.

That's the state of our country.....Jersey Shore, Sarah Palin, etc. The dummying down of America is continuing at a rapid pace. Try reading a book; you could learn something.

Why would parents even allow 12 -18 years olds to watch Jersey Shore ? and then these are the people who will whine later " Oh immigrants are taking our jobs , jobs are being shipped outside".. well now you know the reason why jobs are being shipped

Why would anyone watch this mess? The only reason I know who these people are, is because Entertainment shows will not stop talking about these people. How is this Entertaining? It is all done by a script. This stuff is all fake. Just like every MTV show out there. Don't people have better things to do with their time then watch these morons? These "Jersey Shore" people are now rich because of all the people who think this stuff is entertaining. You have to be kidding me. If people would pay attention to things that were going on in the world or inside their own country maybe, just maybe this country wouldn't be going in the crapper. Let's watch a bunch of kids who dont have jobs, dont go to school, dont contribute to society at all, break laws, take steroids and talk like 3 year olds. It's unreal

Wrong X generation. That feeble-minded drones like you are into this "hip" show doesn't mean a dam-n thing. It means some of us who have more than single-digit IQs have far better things to do with our time. It also saddens me that our country will one day be in the hands of young, stupid people like those of this show, and the fans who watch it.

This is too damn depressing for words...... If this is any indication of where American society/culture is headed, then I guess I will just have to keep my fingers crossed for that big asteroid in 2012.

    • buy grenade whistle

The cast for Jersey Shore Season 4 is back at it again, with a full 2011 season of mayhem. If you are looking to purchase a unique gift for your favorite Jersey Shore fan, you can buy them a grenade whistle. This horn makes the same exact noise, as the version that Vinny and DJ Pauly D use during the ritual of letting Seaside residents know that a grenade is around. The grenade whistle is similar to a vuvuzela, and makes the same noise.
